I love how when Buzz mistakes the other toys as aliens, he announces that he comes in peace, and accepts them as normal; like, the only person he has a problem with is Woody, and Woody started it
I'm glad that they decided to give him a big role in Toy Story 4 other than being a gimmick for comedy like in the second and third films, because it showed that at that point he was ready to evolve like Woody as a leader and not as a solider with a commanding officer
Actually 4 treated Buzz worse than the other movies did: while he may have been a gimmick in 2 and 3 he was still intelligent. 4 he has no idea what his inner voice was and thought they were buttons on his suit (even though he’s always had this intuition from Toy Story 1)
I absolutely love buzz’s costume design too. It definitely has this astronaut look to it but that underwear psychic around his pants too. It’s definitely amazing what they did with it in the new lightyear movie too. From what I can make out anyway.
Buzz had probably one of the best character growths in the franchise (Woody as well overcoming his jealousy and fear of being left behind). We see that character in Toy Story when he reminds Woody of Andy and their purpose to him. Buzz fully accepted who he was to Andy. Then they basically side lined him for the last two movies
Woah. Wasn't expecting this kind of video from you, but I'm glad you made it. I found it quite shocking to hear of the plot hole you pointed out and not once did it occur to me (and Toy Story is 26 years old, too). While I don't expect Lightyear to be anywhere near as phenomenal as the main Toy Story franchise, I do think it'll be great like a majority of the other Pixar movies.
Honestly, I think the people back at Pixar didn’t really do much with Buzz or even knew what to do with him after the first movie. They bring in a duplicate for the sequel because they felt he couldn’t be funny without forcing him to regress and throwing his character growth in the first movie out the window, much like what Woody accidentally ends up doing in Toy Story 1. This of course implies that every Buzz Lightyear action figure comes into the world believing themselves to be the real Buzz, a real Space Ranger, which I shouldn’t have to mention, has troubling implications. It was fun though so I’ll give it a pass. No big deal, Toy Story 2 is perfect just the way it is. What they did to him in Toy Story 3 was weird. They sent him out only to be caught by Lotso’s goons and basically brainwashed again. When in doubt, send in the black guy, or Buzz in this case. Then, when his friends try to switch him back, they put him in Spanish Mode, basically brainwashing him yet again only he’s a Spanish Space Ranger. He only turns back into the Buzz we all know and love after a broken TV falls on him. Could all other Buzzes have this switch and reset button underneath they’re jet packs, too? Again, I find this troubling. In the latest edition to the franchise, they dumb him down a lot, throwing out his character growth out the window for good. Looks like even after Pixar fired Lassiter and became more accepting of opposite genders and other races in their work force, they still have trouble making Buzz work. Maybe this new Lightyear film is a good thing, hopefully it will do Buzz justice
In Toy Story 2, it was funny seeing a healthy minded Buzz contrast with a delusional one, and Toy Story 3 including a spanish Buzz makes sense given the context; a demo switch exists but there's a way to reverse it. The small button has some clunky programming attached to it, which can be said for a lot of toys with bits of technology inserted. He was hit and miss in 4 though, I'll give you that.
man, I’m so excited for Lightyear. I also love how the film used the song Starman by David Bowie, maybe it might be used in the actual film when it comes out
Buzz was always my favorite character even as a kid, he has a stronger character build and he has grown the most out of all of the toys in the movie’s, I’m glad he’s getting his own movie
Honestly. It’s interesting how buzz think he’s a space ranger in reality and it’s the same with the utility belt buzz in the second one and the Spanish buzz in the third one
Buzz isn’t a plot hole because he says this “it seems you chef Andy inscribed his name on me” and in the bag at sids house woody told him out loud freeze.
