GameFreak’s specialty is putting something in a game that people genuinely enjoy and then never doing it again, no matter how much people want it back.
Still waiting for my contest game. Still waiting for megas to come back. Still waiting for them to get follow right. There are so many relatively simple things they could do to make each new game better that they just don’t. Hey though we got stupid hats that pander to the competitive crowd. Woo.
Except there are some pokemon you wouldn't like to pet, weather it's ugly, contains poisonous chemicals, will haunt your soul, electrocute you or set you on fire
@@miimiiandcoSneasler is a bit bigger with also larger limbs, so makes sense that it travels faster. Battle stats =/= general stats with pokemon, as you can be incredibly fast when it comes to traveling but be incredibly slow for battling (like have a runner fight an MMA fighter and chances are he won't be able to block even react to the attacks, nor be fast enough to dodge or outpace the MMA fighter). Guess it depends on context, but some don't make much sense like Regieleki (at least it's not intuitive) and some do make a lot like Pheromosa.
This is one of the reasons I'm so faithful to x/y. It sounds silly to say but petting really is one of the make or break factors for if I want to get the game. ive been attempting to complete my national dex on that game just so I can pet everyone.
thats rad! good luck with your national dex. i really should replay thru all of x/y(+oras) again its been so long, outside of revisiting it for footage
@@c0mpu73rguy Plushes are expensive though! D: Whereas a single Pokémon game is... well, relatively much less expensive! And in some ways, more alive! At least to me. :3
the best part about pokemon amie is petting pokemon that don't seem like the affectionate type. I have a voltorb that I was trying to raise up to a certain level, so I raised its affection. The little ball of electricity that loves to go boom sometimes also seems to love being pet :3
My only real critique is that the X/Y interactive, Pokemon Amie, is pronounced “Ah-meee” since it’s a pun on the French Mon Ami/Amie, translating into “My friend.”
One thing that PLA DID let you do was it let you feed Pokémon. There were several times when I would just see a Pokémon being cute or coming up to me so I would toss them an Oran Berry and they would nom it up. Super cute
The Legends gameplay has so potential for fun interactions with Pokemon, whether it's with wild Pokemon or your own. Imagine seeing natural rival species fighting each other in the wild, or seeing how your Pokemon interact with wild Pokemon, or watching parents tend to their young.
Agreed, Legends Arceus had so many cool ideas that they were able to try by making it a 'Spinoff' that is a shame some might never come to a mainline game, only remain on the spinoff series.
Yeah absolutely they need to bring more interactions between the Pokémon, bring back 1st person, and bring back the ability to actually pet your Pokémon and feed it individually. I think gamefreak thought we wanted more efficiency in this regard but forgot that when it comes to interacting with the actual Pokémon, we want to take our time so we can develop friendships with them beyond just washing them lol.
I’ve only been playing Pokémon since gen 8, so I never knew how much I was missing when it comes to this! The way you can get ‘electrocuted’, etc., by Pokemon that are dangerous to touch in XY is INCREDIBLE!!! I didn’t think I’d be this amazed by something that seems so obvious when petting something made of sludge or other volatile substances.
For real! I started this year (but also with gen 8) and I’m not all the way through my first game yet but I’ve been wondering about this exact feature since I unlocked camping. I can’t believe it used to be real. We absolutely need this back in the future!
Breaking the trend of this reply section, I started with Pearl Version in gen 4 almost 20 years ago! It's been a wild ride. I hope they bring everything back every once and a while, like the battle frontier, and the cute follow interaction animations from hg/ss.
One of the things I loved with Refresh was that there were little details like the cursor moving slower and getting covered in gunk when petting grimer and muk. As someone who has a soft spot for grimer and some other 'uncute' pokemon, it was nice that they put love and care into even ones like grimer. Don't know if that was the case in Pokemon Amie, since I never actually played X or Y.
My two favorite pokemon games are HeartGold / SoulSilver and X & Y for just those reasons, having pokemon follow you and being able to bond with them is so important to me, it's what sets apart MY pokemon from just any random one you get through a wonder trade trying to complete the dex The games after sun and moon have been kind of lacking in that department and it makes me sad
Its a bit of bummer that you cant pet pokemon and they cant follow you in PLA, but other that i love how alive PLA makes your team feel through gathering actions and having the freedom to just send out the whole party at once without a loading screen
PokeMonAmi is a wordplay on Pokemon and „Mon Amie“ (Which should roughly translate to „my friend“ from french). So i think it should be pronounced „Pokemon Amie (
Yeah same! If you stand in one place for a long time during a picnic, Meowscarada will come up to you and looks like about to give you a hug, but I can't interact with him. :( **sadface**
@@LITTLE1994 scarlet and violet feels so lifeless, the characters have so little to do with them other than washing them. Black and white had that little Pokémon battle sort of thing where you can play as them in minigame competitions, I absolutely ADORED it. Pokémon camp in sword and shield was also amazing, there was all sorts of fun things to do in it and the Pokémon felt alive.
@@thepotatoportal69if that was an issue then gardvoir would have been deleted from existence the moment gamefreak made one of their worst decisions ever by removing a feature that was in all previous games rather than in one or two previous games. In case my word play went straight over your head, I’m talking about the national dex being axed. As in, if gamefreak had such a big enough problem with people making the lowest form of humor that is second only to fart jokes in terms of being the low hanging fruit, then gamefreak would have also axed any pokemon commonly seen on “the green website” as soon as the national dex’s discontinuation gave them an excuse to do it.
I will never for the life of me understand how they made following pokemon so perfect in the let's go games but completely bothced it in every other switch game by making the following pokemon way too slow to actually follow for more than a few steps before teleporting to you or worse, going back to the pokeball!
What I don't understand is that they know how to balance unique walking speeds with not being annoying to walk with them: Ogerpon. They have the little creechur teleport behind you silently when they get too far away. It is so much better than the loud Pokéball woosh that makes them no longer walk with you until you send them back out.
Pokémon Amie and Refresh could've been a separate game with how fun it was. I really don't understand why they can't just reuse the animations and systems that are already made, are sure to work and won't interfere in whatever the new gimick of the next game. I don't want stat boosts just let me pet the creature.
@@shrimpchris6580 nah man, if you actually play it to have fun and actually invest time to enjoy it it’s an incredible game. People just undervalue it be because they want better graphics. I dont value games on graphics i value them on how much fun i can have and i had an incredible time playing it
@@theinvoluntarybeatboxer3766 The looks are a small part of why it's not very good, but you can't pretend they aren't important either. You don't even need something high-fidelity or photorealistic, the original Windwaker still looks great. Besides all that though, the gameplay as a whole isn't well thought out. The world is devoid of almost anything to even do in it and anything to do with the pokemon you catch outside of the usual battling and watching them go at the ranch. You can't even ride your own pokemon or use yours like you can use the prefab mounts. The battling part is shit too because there's almost no trainer battles and no multiplayer, so the system heavily relies on wild battles and filling out a time-wasting checklist. There isn't even danger to the pokemon in the wild because the new battle system means any time you get in trouble in a fight, you can walk away without taking a turn, revive and heal your whole party, then keep fighting whatever you were fighting since its health doesn't come back when you leave a fight. There's also no reason to interface with the other mechanics they have in place to catch wild pokemon because catch rates are so high that you'll almost never go wrong either just chucking a normal ball at their back or whittling them down like normal. No reason to use berries as bait, or any of that stuff. The pokemon all just waddle around and do nothing too, they don't really interact with each other or their environment, anything. It just leaves the whole experience feeling empty. Don't even get me started on how much of a boring slog the story is. It was a small tiny baby step towards a better pokemon game, but it's *not* a very good game no matter what angle you look at it from.
I can't have pet in real life, so interacting with pokemon helps me to cope. Gen 6 and 7 are best in that regard, but my 3ds touchscreen broke and I can't use amie and refresh propery. In gen 6 I can't leave amiee to save and in general touches don't connect in right places. Anyway in gen 9 I see interacting with pokemon is more focused on putting them in right places for photos rather then playing with them, which is ok, but not it. I miss petting pokemon.
Personally, as much as I know it’ll most likely never happen, I think they should add a combo of all of these features back into the next gen. Let Pokémon follow you and just be outside of their pokéball’s (and have several out at a time), add an improved cooking feature that’s a mix of SwSh and SV’s, add a combo of amie, the picnic’s, and refresh, and just overall let us play with and pet our Pokémon. Also, I think it would also be great to have the Pokémon following you interact with each other if you have several out at the same time, and make them have different reactions to certain weather types and locations. I feel like it’ll never happen, but we can hope.
Ya her Name is Cream, she’s very Smol. Thx for the wonderful video my favorite part of Pokémon is these interaction features I hope in the future we see even more.
Funny how the monster tamer genre started out connecting with them in a more personal way and pokemon came along and kinda wiped that clean til the off pokemon game lol.
I think the lack of effort to this vain is probably due to Game Freak’s development team just not being big enough nor experienced enough with modern hardware and modern development, which has stagnated Pokémon as a whole. According to Glassdoor reviews of Game Freak, it’s pretty much as stale as you think it is because the oldheads at the company don’t apply themselves or their teams to train to develop for modern hardware. I think they honestly could’ve implemented these features back if they knew how to properly develop for the Switch and used the Joy-Cons to their full potential. No reason your whole ass party can’t be able to follow you!!
@@unlikelyvee true, they lack the time, and the effort, but if they allowed outside developers to toss their hat into the ring, they could certainly make up for it by using their immense amount of resources and cushioning (through Nintendo and merchandise) to assert a much needed mainline hiatus, with spinoffs and stuff to tithe fans over, while getting the proper experience and training to make modern AAA Pokémon games. I think they are simultaneously very possessive and too cautious with Pokémon, to the point where it makes no sense, as it has literally become too big to fail.
Ahh Pokémon games, always adding and then taking away the best features in the next game. The Pokéwalker was actually one of the most accurate pedometers for the price when it came out, or at least I heard that.
My first pokemon game was Pokemon Y, so i think i just assumed you were always able to pet and feed your pokemon. I would pay so much to fix my 3Ds just to pet my team TvT
THIS PERSON SAID POKÉMON ARE CUTE? BLASPHEMY! WITCHCRAFT! COME, MY BRETHEREN, WE MUST BURN THEM AT THE STAKE! seriously though, the Pet Feature needs to return... alongside Following pokemon, and Pokemon Contests(Unova Style)
@@unlikelyvee then prepare for the hunt! Get yourself a foreign 6iv Masuda Ditto, (give the everstone to the zorua/zoroark) fire up a stream on youtube to multitask, and be patient!
Interacting with pokemon in violet is my biggest complaint about the game tbh! Let us pet them pls pls pls Also i adored the minigames in x and y DX My friends would give me their DS so i could get them the highest scores on the one bouncing game....now i need to buy a new 3ds
I want a game which focuses on spending a wholesome time with our Pokemon. No only petting, dressing up, napping on the same bed, grooming, feeding. Also buying fun stuff like shampoos, conditioners, perfumes, cremes, brushes, according to type. Just like we do with real pets.
There isss one new feature in Ssscarlet/Violet Picnicsss. When you throw the ball you can kick it around with your Pokemon in a little game of Four-A-Ssside Pokémon Football!(or sssoccer if you’re American).
Man I think out of all of the pokemon patting so far, I liked XY/ORAS the best. They are just so cute, and you can do a hi-five! I swear the microphone could hear you say stuff as well
I think in SWSH there's a line of dialog where a pokemon will say something like "x looks like they want to be pet!" and it makes me so sad because you can'ttttt
i like the ability to breed my pokemon in camp but i would give it all up if i could; pet, bathe, talk too, cook for and play with my pokemon. i also want to ride whoever i want and have whoever i choose follow me, that would make the perfect pokemon game. (i mean yeah they follow you when you have them on auto battle in violet but i want to be able to pet them and tell them good job and have them just follow or go battle like- i just want my pokemon to feel like they're actually MY pokemon)
that whole "game freak doesn't have the time or money to-" argument gets shut down real quick when you're reminded that we have fans doing exactly that.. with better animation.. at hilariously quick paces.. and more features... in their spare time... for FREE.... So don't tell me they don't have the manpower/money/whatever. They do. because we do it, and we do it better, for free. Gamefreak has literally no argument whatsoever
12:40 you actually can let your party out anywhere in the game. They still won't follow you, but anywhere besides indoors is fair game. The problem is that most spots where you can do this are filled with wild Pokémon wAITING TO EAT YOU OH GOD GUYS BACK IN YOUR BALLS WE GOTTA BOUNCE THE PARASECT IS COMING BACK AHHHHHH
let's go did following pokemon perfectly, honestly. they need to bring back petting pokemon as well as pokemon actually keeping up with you when you walk with them...
Honestly I'm just grateful the Pokéwalker and Pokéball Plus existed at all, AND the Pokéball Plus was compatible with Sw/Sh. It's the only way you can pet your Sw/Sh Pokémon. The same Cinderace I use in VGC walks EVERYWHERE with me in the Pokéball Plus, and I give him scritches sometimes and it's amazing. :)
Believe it or not UnlikelyVee, this is what I envisioned when I thought about using Sunglass Lenses that, when you replace them with a LCD AR/VR ones, you'll be able to see not only your favorite pokemon, but also be able to see, hear, feel, and react (with your physical body or standing away from them) the wild pokemon around, even in your neighborhood. And thankfully it doesn't require catching as it's more of befriending, or heck, much like Pokemon Channel did, inviting Pokemon over to your house, apartment, cave, etc. (Wherever you live) and have the Pokemon interact, express, or heck, even react, see, hear, feel, or know something or anything you have in your house (whether it's as simple as a lamp or even eating the cooked food you made for the Pokemon). The idea would be that the Pokemon you bond with is not just training them to fight back, as well as doing fights, wrestling, sports, and activities with your Pokemon, but also relaxing, watching, playing, doing anything you and your pokemon like to do in the comfort of your own home. And unlike domesticated pets, the Pokemon will live with you as long as you live. And when you do pass on from this world, while the Pokemon inside the AR/VR world will mourn/grieve/cry/emotionally upset when you have passed from this world, they themselves will leave the facility, or stay in the same house to find someone new to be with. Whether it would be a baby, a child, a teenager, an adult, or even an elder, or someone new who moved in. And also, unlike the managa and many other forms of media, the Pokemon would be able to talk with you, and you can also invite not just Pokemon, but Digimon, Bakugan, Yu-Gi-Oh, Monsters, Creatures, Cryptids, or any human, creature, anthro, fictional, etc. of the person/creature that you would like to invite to your house, and hangout/relax/have fun with. And heck, if you do go out and find someone else who also wears the same sunglass lens as you do, their humans/creatures inside the AR/VR sunglass lenses will also interact with the other people and the other individual's creatures/anthros/humans, etc. The idea is that it's not some bulky headset nor would it ever need any kind of charging device to have it booted up and ready to go. And for those who have glasses on, they can easily just order the glasses lens version of it and remove their old ones for the new ones, and they would work just like the ones prescribed by their eye doctors and such. So in return, the idea for this device is that it would basically be a physical form of sunglass lens, that you would buy as either a replacement for your real sunglasses, or if you wanted a different colored sunglass lenses for stylish purposes, the idea simply is that there's only a coating all over the sunglass lenses to emulate the AR/VR inside the lenses. And thankfully those who do look closely at your sunglasses won't be able to see what you're seeing, unless they have you take it off and they look through it yourselves (so It can be private, meaning only you can see them, or you can have others see it right on your face, or have them wear it itself). And yes, with the idea I made, instead of using cables, a software program, or heck, even a smartphone or electronic device, you basically use your own body as the one interacting with these AR/VR creatures/individuals and they too can talk just like human beings, and even help translate another person's language into your native language (exp. Another person only speaks Espanol/Spanish, but you don't understand what they're saying. The pokemon in this case will show you the translated text next to the person or tell you what they're saying and you'll understand them without having to take language classes just to understand their speaking.) They can also be used to problem solve, be a great sibling/friend to you, or anything you like to do (except violence, terrorism, and suicide, those three are forbidden in the program I would make, just so no one hurts themselves or others). However, considering the amount of programming and figuring out how to pull it off and get it to work, that's something I haven't really thought of how to start it and how to finish it. I know the end product, but to develop it and get it from start to finish is not easy. But if done right and correctly, without bugs or glitches that is, it would be such a popular product that many copycatters and companies would try to use the same tech I thought of for their own franchises. And yes, you can pet the Pokemon and other creatures and humans you invite into your house. It's like the 2003 video game Pokemon Channel but it's done in real life instead of looking at a smartphone, computer, TV screen, or VR googles just to feel, hear, see, and interact with them.
You truly didn't miss out on much by skipping sword/shield. It's easily, PAINFULLY, the worst generation. The camp is literally the only exception it gets.
5:28 Would that be a reason not to go 3D? If you have like 700 characters it's a lot easier to keep doing sprites then 3D models with unique animations
X and Y are still my fave pokemon games to this day (with Yellow being surprisingly close) just because of how THRILLED I was to get to play with my pokemon in Pokemonamie. I'm so sad my old Y cartridge died. I miss it a lot. Thankfully I was able to get my entire box out onto Home in time but I still want to buy another one. I used to spend HOURS rollerskating around the tower to hatch eggs for shiny and legendary giveaways 😊 So I have all of them still haha! I loved the minigames, especially yarn bump. I miss that A LOT. I CAR!!"
I don’t like Pokémon XY. I genuinely thing they’re not good games. But I was so happy they introduced two things: petting Pokémons and changing up your clothes and hair. The rest can go fuck itself, the stupid story, the weak gym leader, Lysander being an edgy idiot. But fuck if this two things weren’t revolutionary
I hate to be that guy but this kinda sums up my problem with TPC rushing GF to make yearly sequels. As is it's like, the most advanced features we get are "Sandwich with Canned Green Screen Reactions" because it has like, physics involved in an open world game which I swear is chugging with how much render distance it has. IMO if they couldn't give us petting then just take out the features entirely and focus on polishing the game, otherwise, put in some dang petting and make some divided areas ala the old games while keeping the free-roaming sandbox.
The Pokewalker helped to turn me into a pretty insane distance runner. It was pretty fun to take my Qwilfish or Jumpluff running with me. These days I'm out of shape, so getting my level 70 Pokemon to run up via jogging is difficult.
Sun and Moon remains the "turning point" on games overall quality to me, personally. Not saying that all the newer ones are trash, but let's be real, the only consistently "always good" part of Pokémon games is the music. Everything else tends to be hit or miss, whether it be the unique game mechanic, audience approval on a regions Pokémon, the plot writing, character designs, et cetera. Moon was the last game I 100 percent enjoyed.
12:55 godddd i forgot pokemon ranch existed xD I think that was one of the few games i bought digitally on the Wii back when you still could (sad... rip wii store ;;~;;)
I've always enjoyed Pokemon so much because I get ridiculously emotionally attached to those little guys, being able to interact with them with following/petting was a dream come true, and to have it so cruelly ripped away... :') Makes me genuinely feel bad that I can't show my Pokemon how much I love them any more, I don't care if that's silly, it sucks
Tbh I'm always surprised Pokemon hasn't had like a dedicated pet simulator game. Closest thing to it is the Pokewalker or Hey You Pikachu, and also Pokemon Amie but that's a very minor side activity.
*0:10* IOF moment right off the top. I can't get the horrors out of my brain, even when I come to silly Pokémon vids... Great stuff, tho. Let us pet the damn Mons.
The first pokemon game i played was Let's Go! Eevee! (i got it for my birthday when i wasn't that much into the series) but honestly the best part of the game was the ability to pet Eevee. I haven't beat the whole game yet, but I *know* that my point will remain for the whole playthrough. *Also I named Eevee "balls gaming" and now I laugh whenever his name is said*
You can play Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu or Let's Go Eevee and pet your Pikachu or Eevee however much you want. :P But they only let you pet those two. :( I dunno why they did that! Also, on Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, you can give any of your Pokemon baths at a picnic anytime you want. That's sorta like petting. XD But yeah, I wish they would let you pet them too. In Pokemon Sword/Shield, you can play fetch with Pokemon and also have conversations with them and wave around a toy they can interact with lol. I think we need to sign a petition and send it to GameFreak letting them know that Pokemon have feelings too!
Idk gamefreak doesn't seem to let the NPCs pet or even hug pokemon. Like theres so many moments in pokemon which would feel so much more "human" if the npcs were allowed to put, hug, eachother/pokemon
I used to imagine Pokémon were real. If it would rain when I was playing outside, I’d have to rush back into my house or else my charmanders tail flame would go out like in the anime. The drama if it all 😭😭😭
pokemon amie is literally what kept me from ending my life after a disastrous coming out attempt, my best friend being torn away from me and puberty finally jacked my gender dysphoria sky high, all the while trying to cope with my mom being emotionally abusive (she reconciled with me now). im okay with dexit, im okay with crappy graphics. but if you took away one thing that literally saved my life in my darkest days, then pokemon is dead for me
I’ve always wanted to live in the Pokémon because having a cute little friends that I fight along with I treat my Pokémon like there real animals and have real emotions I wish I could pet a Raboot and umbreon
a big reason why i think Pokémon removed petting if from people (troll) complaining about petting certain Pokémon not being realistic. prime examples being fire types that are on fire or is made of fire or main reason lava and ghost types which should be self explained. people that like to complain about games in every small detail is what is reining a lot of games now adays its like if there is something you don't like just don't play and keep your thoughts to your self and don't rein games for others that do enjoy them but there will those types of people around
