Why Canceling Inside Job Was A Terrible Decision

It’s funny how Netflix and HBO Max are both competing to see who can cancel good animated shows the fastest

I haven’t hated a show cancellation this much in a long time. The show was like a breath of fresh air and it was one of those rare adult comedies that didn’t devolve into severely bitter jokes like so many others have.

Between Netflix canceling really good productions and Nickelodeon saying cartoons with female leads will not be able to sell as good as shows with male leads, the animation industry is really getting (unnecessarily) boned.

Honestly I feel like many streaming services have adopted the mindset Nickelodeon has with SpongeBob. "Oh? This show isn’t as popular as Stranger Things or Wednesday? Lol, let’s just cancel it then." Like seriously, streaming services don’t seem to realize not every single one of their shows has to be making the amount of bucks their most popular shows are. :/

This is ridiculous. I figured as an adult cartoon it would be safe. It's almost like Netflix hates everything with a plot and character development or something.

You know. I know that Disney is still getting shit for canceling Owl House and cutting their season short. At least they let the creators finish their work. Hell, they even said that they regret cancelling Owl House. While Netflix and HBO Max have been cancelling shows without warning or reason.

I loved Inside Job and think it's stupid Netflix cancelled it just because it was animated. It was a very successful show with so much potential that got axed for awful reasons like Sym-Bionic Titan, Megas XLR, Final Space, Tuca and Bertie, and The Owl House. Executives need to stop scoffing off the potential of animation.

My heart was shattered when Inside Job was canceled. My comfort show this has become. I loved Reagan and Brett. They deserves their happinesses and love after all their trauma. My hope is that someone will pick the show up or someone will renew it. Thanks for speaking about it. Helps us spread the love we have for the show

I miss when I could watch a show and not have to worry about it getting cut short or cancelled.

If I had a dollar for everytime netflix cancelled an animated show, I'd have enough money to buy the company and change some things around.

I often theorize that one of the many many MANY reasons, why Netflix is cancelling not just Inside Job but animated shows in general is because i believe on some level they are doing it to save money, because with how expensive animation is these days streaming services most likely spend more money having cartoons made than they do at making money by broadcasting cartoons. but that's just my theory.

Yeah I dont really get why they would cancel Inside Job. They have an opportunity to build their own franchise akin to Futurama and Rick Morty which a big fanbase but totally scrapped it

as a neurodivergent programmer with social issues and a mild lust for world domination, reagan is probably one of my favorite protagonists of all time. the cancellation of this show makes me want to scream and/or smack whoever thought this was a good idea

It literally brought a tear to my eye knowing that Inside Job and Dead End: Paranormal Park both got canceled. I don't care Netflix reason for canceling though shows it was still wrong for them to do so.

This show’s season finale was beautifully executed and made me cry and it is devastating that Netflix is saying that this show had no fan base and cancelled it ,( this is show and all the other shows they cancelled deserved better)

what also sucks is they left it on a cliff hanger BECAUSE netflix had already given them a second season. I started watching the show and got to the episode where Regan makes the fake guy to practice dating and now that it's canceled I don't want to deal with the heartbreak of being left on a cliffhanger knowing there'll be no pay off

It feels so wrong that we were promised a second season and that it was already in post-production, just to see it be cancelled. I hope it gets picked up by Adult Swim or gets to continue through books or comics. Adult Swim has picked up Netflix originals before, so its not impossible with the handling rights, not to mention the fact they're already looking into it.

Inside Job was one of the few reasons I even use Netflix. A lot of other shows of theirs that I liked were either shelved/cancelled a while ago or it’s not as good as it used to be. I don’t know who or how many people thought that getting rid of this show was a good idea but they all need to be fired. I haven’t been this invested in an adult animated show in a long time. It’s hard for a show or movie to make me cry but the love story between Reagan and Ron had me weeping. The writing on this show is so good and it’s so wrong that it’s getting cancelled.

The Velma creator could really learn from this show

As of right now Streaming services like Netflix just the worst places for animation, Inside job is definitely up there as one of the best adult cartoon shows of all time, it’s like if you took Gravity falls mix with Rick and Morty to make something incredibly unique.

The CEO himself said that they've "never canceled a popular show". They quite literally did.

This gives me Vietnam flashbacks. We Go back to (probably) 2017. A new show came from Nickelodeon: Welcome to the Wayne. It was probably just an attempt to cash in with Gravity Falls popularity, but as a dumb 10 year Old, I just fell in love with the show. There were good misteries, some good laughs, and just that feeling to want more out of it. And then it just... Dissapeared. I didn't know how shows worked, so I just kept waiting, until two Years later I realized it wasn't going to return. And I promised myself I would never start watching a series until I knew it was going to finish. But I broke this promise with inside job. It was just so good. I enjoyed it alone, with my father, and even with my mother; who is one of those that thinks that animation is for children. But fate repeated itself. Its ironic how the series imitating gravity falls, and the second project of the creator of gravity falls were the ones that will leave me with the most bitter taste, like an orange that has not grown enough. But this is how It goes. There is just One More question: ¿would it Be better if I never watched this shows and could live without this Hole in my chest, or is it worth it falling in love even thought you will not watch it flourish.?

Nothing gets a chance to hit its stride anymore! Not everything is an overnight success, and not everything that is an overnight success has longevity. The more Netflix stays focused purely on arbitrary numbers, the more they have to cater to mass audiences, which means we are going to get less and less creative content.

The scene when Reagan gives Ron the speech when erasing his memory, had me in floods of tears. This show is amazing with its comedy, as well as hitting hard with the depth and character developments. I really do hope someone picks this up and continues the story

Something about the main characters feels so good about the show, reagan could have just been Worse Rick Sanchez but the writters made her more relatable not making her win, her actions have consequences and she actually has to evolve to overcome them instead of the easy I am a goddess route, I'm so sad the show got cancelled but my theory is that one of the conspiracies was true and I'm 40% sure it was the minions one and the other 60% are the reptilians episode

as someone who seriously loved inside job i was really heartbroken when they announced the cancellation. it really does sucks that they gave big mouth another season yet they had to cancel a show that many could relate to (this is coming from someone who has never watched big mouth)

this is the first cancellation that actually made me cancel my netflix account and I don't know that I'll ever resubscribe. The only draw to me now is Disenchantment, but my anger at netflix overrides my desire to see any new content from that show (if it even is getting new content)

The news that this show was cancelled genuinely made my ears start ringing, and I'm not even sure if that is a thing. I have never been so enamored with a show. I've rewatched Inside Job so many times that I quote it on a daily basis. The writers and audience thought it was renewed, so the writers didn't have the opportunity to end the show in a somewhat satisfying way. Instead because of the idea they would be able to write an ending later on, they ended season 2 with multiple cliffhangers. It was a beautiful season. I loved it so much. Now the only upsetting thing about watching it is knowing that the audience (me included) won't get closure, answers, or get to see the main characters happy especially Reagan. It is now the job of our minds to theorize how it could have or would have ended. I don't get worked up over shows or movies. It may upset me when something I like ends, but this didn't end, it just didn't continue when we were all tricked into thinking it would by Netflix. If I had millions of dollars, I would literally fund this show's ending. As Reagan said, Netflix paid $100M for the show Friends. A show that isn't created by Netflix, and they didn't even keep it on the service in the US at least. I understand animation is costly, but Netflix cutting animation amid subscriber drops because they "want to make what our audience wants to see,” is bullshit. The people most likely to keep a streaming service for even just one show are anime lovers or adult animation lovers. Adult Swim is proof of that. I think the people who made this decision made it due to lack of personal interest in animation. Anime and adult animation have drastically different risen in popularity over the past few years, and somehow continuing with the trend is a bad investment for Netflix. I am not only mad that my favorite show was cancelled, but I am mad that Netflix is being dense and overlooking a category that brings people joy, escapism from reality while also being relatable, and strong everlasting fandoms. I'm not sure if anyone will read this, but I apologize for the length. I didn't expect to type this much when I started writing this, but I've also never felt this strongly about something that isn't personal. This feels personal though. I wanted to share my thoughts on the topic, which I also never care enough to do on the internet because it could be potentially problematic. I just feel that strongly about this. I love this channel and Alpha Jay is spreading the good word as always.

The resolution of Reagan and Ron’s relationship was what made this show stand out to me. Before that it was a good show, but that scene made it a great show.

At this point I don't even want to try watching new shows on anything especially Netflix because I now have been taught that there will never be a conclusion and it'll get ripped away from me right after I find comfort and excitement in it.

Ted Sarandos CEO of Netflix has proven himself to be a lying hypocrite. He said they canceled it cause "they only cancel unsuccessful shows." Bullcrap! They only cancel shows without giving them a chance! What about Bone? That never had a chance to be a show, and The Cuphead Show is literally their most viewed and beloved show! This is the problem with CEO's nowadays, they listen to their own ego instead of what their audiences want!

I liked Inside Job and the fact that it got canceled around a week after 1899, another Netflix show I liked, kinda crushed me😭

I may not fully enjoy Inside Job, but hearing it being cancelled is a very low blow coming from Netflix. Hearing how they'd rather lay off tons of animation workers, destroy whatever studios all in a way to keep money, yet still keep certain crappy shows that have little impact before and after, like Big Mouth. So help me If I was in charge of keeping whatever animation shows live or die, I'd mostly see these shows with my own eyes while also hearing tons of feedback from fans and true legit critics. I'd rather ask so many creators on what season goal do they have in mind of keeping it until, seeing how the flow goes, but never EVER make weak excuse to cancel a good show over keeping a show believing it to be your Spongebob, Simpsons, etc when you know it's bad to keep zombie shows airing forever. but thats just my simple opinion of looking at things.

What I hate the most about the show being cancelled is that netfilx could of ended it on a warming note that ragen got to have a happy ending with out getting the one thing she wanted through the hole show witch was to run the job but instead of getting that she ends up with Ron and being happy

I’ve mentioned this before on someone else’s video about the cancellation of Inside Job, but this has me scared for season two of Arcane. Like Inside Job, Arcane got the green light for season two, everyone loves it and it’s a great show. It honestly makes it look like Netflix is allergic to quality shows, and gets physically ill when they see it

**Moral:** When making a show with an ongoing plot make the ending of a season open ended while still a satisfying conclusion. You are not guaranteed a season 2. Do everything you want as fast as possible. Shows should shoot smaller. Instead of Making the whole series an arc each season should be it's own arch.

It’s really sad what’s has been going on in the Animation Industry. In 2022, it was a great for Live-Action because we got Everything Everywhere All At Once, Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, The Northman, RRR, and the list goes on. However, 2022 was a miserable year for Animation. Animated films were either okay (Turning Red) or bad (Lightyear) with some hidden gems (The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots 2) and too many cancellations on Netflix, Warner Bros. and Disney. Animation deserves better. 2023 better be good.

I was not aware in the slightest that this show was being canceled until today. It is genuinely my favorite show on Netflix right now, animation or live action. It always seemed like it was a given that it would continue so I was never worried about it ending prematurely. This show is too good to end here. If Netflix doesn’t want to continue it, some other company should.

Most people didn't talk about it till it got canceled and that's the problem people talked about Velma before it came out,but we couldn't even talk about Inside job while it was out and now we sad it's getting canceled

As of right now I'm watching this show and it's absolutely amazing, way better than any other series on there, and I usually don't watch anything from western animation because it doesn't usually appeal to me, because of character designs, but inside job really takes the piece of cake. Damn I wish that half of my favorite western animation shows didn't get canceled or set on pause and actually got their ending and story development, but ig that they now keep the shows that went viral

WORST DAY OF MY LIFE

There is a bigger reason why cancelling this show was a terrible mistake. It has largely dammaged trust in Netflix further and more and more people are starting to say they don't care when a new show comes out because they are already assuming it's going to get cancelled early and never finish. It's basically the default assumption at this point and becomes a self fulfilling prophecy because if no one watches a show as they assume it will be cancelled then it doens't do well and is much more likely to be cancelled. But you can't tell people to just watch it anyway because it won't be cancelled if it does well because even shows that do well get cancelled so that's still not a gaurantee. There is no winning with Netflix anymore and killing a show ON A CLIFFHANGER! Is going to severely dammage trust in Netflix to a degree that could easily result in a downward spiral.

The show brought the humor that R&M, Family Guy & Southpark brought in their prime days. Out right funny. Creative. Not afraid to push boundaries of real world events. You can see the amount of effort put into all the jokes, animations, and characters. The point being. This show is/was comedy Gold. Canceling it along with a fair amount of other shows is criminal. There is an infinite amount of potential in this show as it relates to real world people and events. That in itself is something a lot of shows don't have.

**Moral:** Never end seasons on Cliffhangers. Start the season with a bang and spend the rest of the episodes resolving it.

Why did they cancel it? Well... because the animation departments are still heavily expensive for streaming service. Plus, there's been so many other streaming services over the years and there's still not enough subscribers or viewers that can save animation shows. The only animation that they want to produce is to make it look very cheap like Big Mouth, South Park or Aqua Team Hunger Force. Animation will always be very expensive. Just saying.

A dark part of me is actually hoping Disney+ buy "Inside Job" off of Netflix, and utterly humiliates them once they get a massive boost of subscribers.

I really want IJ to get picked up by Adult Swim or anybody else but Netflix. This show truly is one of a kind and the writers pour so much heart into the story and their characters. I really want to see how the show end properly :(

Being a fan of Western Animation is so tiring, it just feels like all the amazing stuff gets cancelled while the garbage gets endless renewals Also feels like Live Action shows really arent getting their fair share when it comes to cancellations (in proportion), which sucks since Animation is the superior medium IMO
