Mike Winger doesn't care about Christian history. He said so on his video on infant baptism. He said he doesn't care what Christian said 500 years after Christ died, but he refuses to see that Christians taught infant baptism hundreds of years before his reference point. I really do hope you can have a conversation with him. It is hard to listen to someone who thinks that are giving an accurate description of Catholicism when they don't.

We have his words, verbatim in the Bible- he is God, and therefore omniscient, he would have known the Bible was coming some 400 years later. Why did he not instruct the apostles to compile this book and that the book would be the only ingredient and requirement to practice the faith? Why? You reject tradition, ok, so be it. At 71 years old I have had my share of talks with Protestants. I converted to Catholicism in 1970. But I am weary with all these debates/ arguments. Some three months ago the Mormons came knocking on my door. About three times a year, the Jehovah Witnesses come knocking. My brother is in the Church of Christ and says the Catholic C is an abomination unto God, but he gets into arguments with our Pentecostal relatives. Actually it's simple: Non-Catholic denominations and Catholics are at polar opposites. We have two opposite premises (a starting belief). What is the basis of your belief in Jesus Christ? The non-C says it's a no brainer. Of course the basis is the Bible. What else can there be? The Catholic says it's the church. Only the church has the authority to interpret the Bible. The Bible is a great extension of the church. Centuries ago the non-C grasps the Bible. Holds it up and says - This is our obly authority! The Catholic C says - No, we have the rifht to interpret scripture. So, why we Catholics allow ourselves to have a debate according to non-Catholic (protestant) rules? To prove everything by the Bible. Indeed, all Catholic positions can be proven by the Bible - but often not to the satisfaction of the non-C. We Catholics researve the right ti follow the Catholuc Church's interpretation. It is our starting premise of our faith. We don't need to apologize to the non-C to the point that we get into debates using their rules. Kung Fu fighter and boxer get into the ring. It is announced these two are champions of their sport. The Kung Fu fighter is surprised to learn before the bell that he is only to fight by boxing rules. If the non- C wants to ridicule us by saying we are afraid of the Bible, fine. And if we don't have an answer duri g the debate, fine. We can direct the non-C to books and websites that are better at explaining. Debates are entertaining at best but seldom is there a clear winner, and even if so, the winner is not necessarily right.

This is fantastic. Trent Horn is one of the people that had a great influence on my turning from Protestantism to Catholicism. I was a seminary trained Protestant getting my Masters at Fuller Seminary. I got my PhD at the same school as James White attended, although I don't consider it a legitimate PhD as it is not an accredited school; but it was 2 years of hard study. But I listened to Steve Ray's conversion story and I saw many intellectual Protestants converting to Catholicism (Marcus Grodi, Dr. Francis Beckwith, John Henry Newmann, Dr. David Anders, Dr. Scott Hahn, Dr. John Bergsma etc. etc.) When I saw Trent Horn explain how Protestants claims about Catholicism are dead wrong it gave me pause. I couldn't respond to Trent's claims. And Mike Winger cannot respond to Trent's claims. All Winger did was take a small part of what Trent stated and claimed that Trent did not represent Catholic teaching in that one are of minutia. Winger left 99% of what Trent responded with unchallenged. I believe that if one watches all of Trent's videos it will be difficult not to become Catholic. I would also suggest listening to Dr. David Anders on a radio show named "Called to Communion." These fellows do not give one time hit jobs regarding Protestantism, they systematically show where Protestants misrepresent Catholicism and they show you the sources that you can read for yourselves. I am glad I came across Trent's polite and thorough rebuttals to help me finally come home to the Catholic Church.

If you read the bible, you'll see that time and time again, Israel's leaders let the people down. Instead of repenting and ritually cleansing the way God gave them through the priests and the temple, they repeatedly lead the people of God astray; adding to teachings false things, and even worshiping false gods. That's why God exiled them. The point is, we can't trust our leaders to always be correct or have the best for us in mind. That's obviously true even just studying the history of the Catholic Church. God knows our limitations, so He gave us HIS WORD so that we may know it, and know Him. He knows we may interpret some things wrong here and there... but His grace is enough to cover that, and may His Spirit correct us and guide us as we follow Him. "The Church" is the body of Christ. The body of Believers. If you are a believer, you have The Spirit, and God will reveal truth to you more and more as you seek it through His word. I know this firsthand. But if you sit back, and assume that the Catholic Church knows everything you need to know, so you'll just trust them, well, you will be lead astray, and you wont have the discernment or wisdom needed to even know that you're being lead astray.
@2005wsoxfan

Christian_Gamer_Guy How? If one "body of believers" believes that baptism is one thing and another "body of believers" believes that baptism is the complete opposite they both can't be right. Certainly Christ did not leave us orphaned to flounder around. Therefore as Christ teaches take it to the Church or in the worlds of Saint Paul the Church is the pillar and foundations of truth. With that said, the Church is not a hotel for saints but, a hospital for sinners. Yes, there are bad leaders that doesn't destroy the deposit of faith. Christ guaranteed that the gates of hell will not prevail that doesn't mean the gates of hell won't try. BTW, as human beings we always stress the negative and down play the positive. There are plenty of good leaders in our Church that I look too. Everyone looks at scripture through a lens as you just did. I just prefer to look through the lens as handed down through the centuries to us from Christ and the apostles.

Christian_Gamer_Guy You are making a big assumption that of the false doctrine of Sola Scriptura. Where does the Bible teach the idea of we believe by the "bible alone"? If Jesus wanted us to believe by the Bible alone why didn't he write anything down? He doesn't even tell his disciples go forth and write manuscripts. Some do but not all. Luke and Mark are not one of the 12 why are they in the Bible? Who made that determination? There wasn't even a printing press for 1500 years after Christ. Bibles were laboriously hand written and very expensive. Very few Bibles were in private hands. It's Martin Luther that gave us Sola Scriptura a doctrine found nowhere in the Bible and a doctrine that has lead to over 50,000 denominations and splintering all claiming they have the correct interpretation of scripture. However I do see where scripture does point to the Church the very Church that collected, protected, canonized, and distributed and properly interpreted by her. For example, how do you know by the Bible alone that John wrote John or Mathew wrote Mathew. Likewise Luke or Mark. The only way we know is because the Church says so. How about the doctrine of the Trinity where is that explicitly taught in scripture? How about marriage between one man and one woman? Where's that in scripture? How about abortion? Where's that in scripture? Stem cell research? I can go on. I know abortion, polygamy etc is wrong because the Church says so. Did you even watch this?

Hey guys, can I first say that Protestants and Catholics are not at war; we actually have much in common. I also think it’s helpful and healthy to find some humor in ourselves. Would you both agree? As a Protestant I agree with Trent and find it funny/ironic that many of Mike’s comments could also refute his own stance as Trent pointed out. I must also admit the humor I found in your question “where does it say...” since your position appears to be on the side that you don’t need to know the Bible. It only makes sense that someone arguing against “sola scriptura” would ask that question. I apologize, but I had to laugh out loud at the irony... you have to agree it was cute. All joking aside, I’ll give you 3 passages to read. There are many passages that both Catholic and Protestant biblical scholars could give you, but if you read Psalm 119:11, 2 Timothy 2:15, and Acts 17:11 you will find purpose, approval and nobility in studying and knowing God’s Word. Lastly, many Protestants don’t have a problem with Peter’s position among the apostles and they often refer to his sermon on the day of Pentecost found in Acts 2. I also find it funny yet encouraging that a lowly fisherman like Peter would preach a sermon so strongly based upon scriptural prophecy from Isaiah 44, Joel 2 and Psalms 110, as well as, from John the Baptist’s preaching “repent and be baptized for the remission of sins” found in verse 38. I pray that you find wisdom in the scriptures that will give you firm reason and foundation for your faith and testimony to others. May God richly bless and keep you strong in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

@@Psalm34rws Jesus, in His final moments on earth reminded us that He had all authority in heaven and earth. In this authority, He sent us out to do our most important responsibility until His return. Namely, preach the Gospel to all nations, make disciples of those who believe, baptize them, and teach them to obey the commands of Jesus. This commission was given to individuals. At that time, there was no church, pastor, or priest. It is the responsibility of all those who follow Jesus to do these things, and according to Ephesians 4:11-12 the church and its leadership are responsible to train and equip people to do these great works. Isn't it sad that most believers have taken the authority given to each individual follower by Jesus and handed that authority over to the church. Most of those who call themselves a follower of Jesus will in fact never make a disciple, baptize, or teach obedience. I'm afraid the Roman Catholic Church (and many protestant churches as well) is doing nothing to equip most people to fulfill the Great commission of Jesus.

In fact there is only one example in the book of Acts where we know who GAVE baptism. Acts 8 shows that Philip, a non-apostle, a non-priest, a non-pastor gave baptism. Try to find one other example in Acts where you see the name of the person who gave baptism. By the way, there were 120 believers who received the Holy Spirit at Pentacost. Among these were both men and women. Very few of them went on to have any official leadership position in the church. I wouldn't say that it is pathetic. Instead, i believe that talking to and learning from an educated and well-versed Catholic (like Trent) would have been better than learning "why Catholics are wrong". There have been times when i realized how much nuance, connotation, and detail really matter. And this video is a perfect example of that. I also have realized that i cannot learn about something by watching videos and lectures by the OPPONENTS. Instead, i should first watch such videos from believers/supporters of that something and THEN watch the counter argument. The problem, i am afraid, is that one could spend a lifetime and still not know everything. A man or woman could devote years to studying one religion, decades studying other religions, and then centuries comparing and contrasting them to find out which one is right. It's just too much. A man has bills to pay, things to learn, jobs to tend, family to care for, and, frankly, life to live. One cannot stop everything and devote his whole life to such an epic quest. I think it all boils down to something pretty simple: there is one God who made everything. He sent his only begotten son Yeshua/Joshua/Jesus the Christ who is the Savior of Mankind. The Holy Ghost dwells within believers. Do your best to follow His Law, to be patient and kind, to be humble yet strong, to be an example of a person with standards (or a "goal"). Don't talk about vulgar things, don't belittle people and call them names, don't be a hypocrite, and don't judge people by standards that you, yourself, do not meet because you will be judged by those same standards and you don't want to be a hypocrite with double standards. And last but not least, worship God. Praise Him. Honor Him. Do not provoke his wrath. Do not slander his name by mingling it with foul speech. Do not make blasphemous jokes about God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, or His heralds.

Sage of Synergism There is much difference between what is dogma (that part of doctrine which has been divinely revealed and which the Church has formally defined and declared to be believed as revealed), doctrine (all Church teaching in matters of faith and morals - unchangeable) and discipline (instruction, system of teaching or of law, given under the authority of the Church [which] can be changed with the approval of proper authority-changeable). It’s really obvious that you have no understanding of the difference. It all matters and is why Jesus instituted His Church and gave the apostles the authority over it rather than telling people they could interpret the teachings for themselves. The observance of Lent is a discipline in remembrance of the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert praying. It is in preparation for, and observance of, the “Passion of Christ” - His suffering, death and resurrection. Catholics are not the only ones who practice this. As for the sign of the cross, this article gives the history of it dating back to before the Bible was put together. catholicstraightanswers.com/what-is-the-origin-of-the-sign-of-the-cross/

Open your bible to the table of contents. This too is a doctrine that you hold, an infallible belief, that your Old Testament has 39 writings, and your New Testament has 27. Yet, you would never ever come up with THAT doctrine either reading the bible. Yet you do. And that's just ONE of your beliefs ... new ones only the last 500 years of Christianity.

"No one reading these passages would come to the conclusion that the papacy was true." Actually, it was studying passages like that closely while I was a Protestant that pushed me towards Catholicism. Why? Looking back at the end of John's gospel, Christ says "MY sheep." How many of the sheep belong to Christ? All of them. The whole world is Christ's flock. So when Christ tells Peter specifically to feed His sheep, that encompasses the whole Church. It's also in Matthew how Christ doesn't merely give Peter the key to Heaven, but gives Him the authority to bind and loose laws in Heaven--that's an insane amount of power. No one else in the Bible is given the authority to bind and loose laws in Heaven except Peter and then the rest of the apostles, and we see the apostles swiftly acting to appoint successors in Acts, which shows us where bishops came from.

You either believe what God says, or you believe yourself instead. The only way you can understand the Bible is if you have received the author, the Holy Spirit. The only way you can receive the Holy Spirit is to obey the gospel that saves - the gospel of this church age (1 Cor 15:1-4)- you have to trust it. Most people, especially Protestants, only believe it in vain. They have not become born again, even though they may often hear the preaching of the gospel! It is because they have not applied it to themselves personally. They are still blind. They too, are in it for pleasing men, not God! No church can save you - only Jesus Christ! It's a personal relationship with Him - God draws you to Him if you surrender your beliefs and humbly ask God to open your understanding. Myself, I had to surrender my pride in my good works. I asked God to forgive my UNBELIEF and that is when the Holy Spirit began to minister to me. It's a miracle!!! He lead me to understanding the scriptures better and that I need to trust what happened at the cross and that there is no other way God can forgive my sins!!! Salvation has nothing to do with your perfect church attendance! If you need an institution (or any religion) to interpret the Bible for you, then you are spiritually dead and on your way to hell. That is not fruit of the Spirit. The reason why most people do not receive the Holy Spirit is because they are spiritually blind to God's Word. They do not believe it for what it says. They PREFER to have a learned-council that uses logic and philosophy to come up with doctrine. God is not in that!!! Remember, God gives grace to the humble. He does not help the "wise". Fools tend to have a better chance! Jesus wants us to come to Him and believe on Him (John 6:35) like AS a little child (not when you are an infant.) Children are more apt to trust God more than adults. I was blind and deaf until age 38 when I read the scriptures and as painful as it was to consider it to be true, I finally surrendered and got saved - all by myself because the Holy Spirit drew me to God. God will not save the prideful and rebellious. You can appear holy to men but God knows your heart. A lot of "good people" are in hell. The sinners who repented and obeyed God are in heaven. You see? What the world says is good or evil is way different than what God says!!! Please, I warn you, please consider this! If you can't understand God's word, then ask God to minister to you. He hearkens to a humble and contrite heart! Not to a heart that seeks to prove your personal beliefs are correct! Jesus called the Pharisees the blind leaders of the blind. If this makes you fuming angry, please know the devil hates comments like mine. The "old me" would have hated this comment - I was loaded with devils even though the world saw me as a "saint". God delivered me of devils when I received His Spirit! I give Him all the praise and glory!!!

Mr. Horn, I found your video after having watched one of Winger's videos. Your video was referenced in one of the comments. I am neither Roman Catholic, nor Winger's barnd of Protestant. I am Episcopalian. As such, I am reasonably familiar with both Roman Catholic teaching, as well as the major strains of Protestant teaching. I immediately recognized that Winger was indulging in a gross distortion of Roman Catholic teaching. I was put off by Winger's arrogance, by his "I'm right, Catholics are wrong" attitude. In a comment to his video, I pointed out that his entire thesis rests on the belief that the Bible is the sole source of authority of the Church, and that Catholics recognize other sources, such as the Magisterium (teaching authority) and tradition of the Church, and that if Roman Catholics believed that the Bible is the sole source of authority, they wouldn't be Roman Catholics! (As an Episcopalian/Anglican, I, too, recognize additional sources of authority besides Scripture, including tradition, reason and experience.) I also reminded him that none of us has access to the fullness of God's truth, so a little humility is called for! Also, with regard to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, I have pointed out that 2 Timothy is believed by most scholars to be written sometime around 64-65 A.D., before at least 3 of the 4 Gospels had been written, and before Acts, the three Johannine letters and Revelation. So whatever 2 Timothy was referring to by the word "Scriptures," it certainly wasn't to the Bible as a whole, nor even to the New Testament. There is also a certain incoherence about believing that the Church derives its authority from the Bible. It was the Church- -- a Church that already had bishops, priests and deacons -- that codified the canon of Scripture! So, if anything, the Bible is authoritative because the Church has declared it so, and not the other way around. Anyway, thank you for this excellent rebuttal!

When people share the gospel truth it's because they care. Peter NEVER went to Rome as Catholic tradition claims. Every time they meant Rome, they said Rome, except in Revelation, when God gave to John visions of the future. Symbolism is used throughout that book, because of its content about the Pagan Roman Empire and its future collapse. So, many symbols were used because it spoke of the fall of the Empire and Emperors, which by the way, is also where the seat of the Beast/Whore/ Harlot church would gain power and rise up after that system . The one and only time Babylon is used is by Peter, and it was Babylon, Egypt not Rome. If Paul, who became one of the apostles at a later time, and who was the strongest opponents against paganism, said Rome in his epistles, common sense says Peter would have no problem saying Rome either. So stop believing the lies. God is NOT the author of confusion! Many protestant churches have been corrupted. The Harlot has her many "daughters" as God's word says, and are under the judgment of God, not all, but many. COME OUT OF HER, GOD SAYS. Rev. 18:4 The Catholic Church's false claim stand and fall on those two beliefs... that Peter "supposedly" was the rock the church was built on, yet, the church is the "body of Christ, not the body of "Peter" a mere man. The bible clearly says in many, many places that Christ was and is that ROCK. The Roman Catholic Church stands or falls on two false doctrines.... Peter being who Christ actually was, and the ridiculous claim that Peter went to Rome and became a pope! Lies, Lies lies!! In Acts 17 Paul says the Bereans were more noble, BECAUSE THEY SEARCHED THE SCRIPTURE...." They didn't go ask any "church fathers" is this so? NO! they dug in to see if what Paul taught was true. Paul never called himself a "Father of the Church." He felt as a father toward Timothy, whom he'd known as a youth, and Titus etc. but NEVER TOOK and held a blasphemous title of Holy Father." It is a discipline only... it can be changed as it is not a dogma or doctrine. There are married priests under certain circumstances... men who were pastors in other faiths who convert can become priests with papal approval. However, like Deacons who are married, they have taken a vow that should their wife die, they will remain celibate after and not seek to remarry. They chose to put service to God and the Church over any personal desires they might or might not have.

Catholics believe we are saved by faith, but not faith alone. The only place in Scripture where faith and alone are together is James 2:24 which says, "You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone." Going back a few verses, James 14-17 says, "14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." Of course Catholics believe that we are saved by faith, but works show our faith.

Also, if Peter was indeed “the first pope” as you defend, then shouldn’t his humility be the absolute model for future popes? We can see throughout history that this was not the case. The popes in history have been far from humble, and outright horrible people (one only needs to read the catholic encyclopedias about past popes to learn about their evil acts), and even if you look at our modern popes, and the Cardinals and the bishops, do we not see a total lack of humility -starting from their entitlements, and by which they are shown reverence with kissing the ring and only wearing black to visit with him, the sexual scandals, etc. All of the man-made traditions involving the pope and the magisterium seem to be in direct conflict with what the Bible says about Peter and the other apostles. They are sinful men just like the rest of the world, and they do not hold authority over how to interpret the Bible. And this connects as to why we should not hold man-made doctrine and traditions over what is revealed in the Bible. We are repeatedly worn throughout the Bible not to trust the wisdom of man over God’s wisdom. That’s the bottom line for me, as someone who wants to please God in how I worship Him- I want to worship according to God’s will (divine scriptures and Gospel), and not risk offending God with my worship that is man-made doctrine that we are repeatedly warned about throughout the New Testament.
@_Gaby_950
@_Gaby_950 3 года назад
Respectfully, your line of logic is flawed. This is similar to the argument atheists use: "If Jesus is the model for virtue, why are Christians so awful? God cannot then exist." St. Peter is a model for future popes, but the latter failing to imitate him doesn't invalidate the Papacy; it just makes them bad successors of Peter. Either way, St. Peter is the same guy who denied Jesus during His Passion, so if anything, all he shows is to expect Popes to be sinners like all of us. You're also generalizing. We've had many good popes and many bad popes. That doesn't mean the Papacy has not existed since the beginning of Christianity. The authority of the Church is independent of the virtues or flaws of its earthly head at any point in time. Lastly, the Protestant Bible is an invention of the 16th century. To make an argument on how to interpret "the" Bible or what is and isn't man made, you must first establish how you know which books are even Scripture. Purgatory, for example, is sound doctrine if 2 Maccabees is a Biblical book and rejection of it is a heresy for the same reason.

That's for people who have grown and not believe yet. That's to say that Christ's death and resurrection was a New Covenant. The verses you cite is the FIRST generation of The Church. Thus, as per usual when people use "that's how they did it in the Bible" it's not even theoretically possible to have done it otherwise. Baptism imparts Grace. Grace is not some optional thing, God gave it to us, period. Belief, faith and the actions associated with faith are different. And "believe and be baptized" does not equal "believe, then be baptized", one is a conjunction, the other is a conditional.
@EmberBright2077
@EmberBright2077 Год назад
I have an objection for your second point. I think it would need to be proven that the Catholic church does not create new doctrine. In practice, they can, and the only thing they need to make sure of is not to contradict previous doctrine too hard. An example would be that baptism with water is required for salvation, but don't worry, you don't need to be baptized to be baptized - if you were going to get baptized, or died as a martyr, that's basically a baptism even though its not. Another example might be no salvation outside the Catholic church, except now you can maybe be potentially saved without being a Christian at all, because we can define that as being saved *through* the Catholic church. The Newman school of thought is built entirely around this concept.

Why I could never be a Protestant- Yes or NO questions for protestantism: 1. Where does it say in your Bible you are saved by faith alone and can never be unsaved? Hint Rom 2:6, Matt 16 27, Rev 22:12 2. a) Does everyone have freewill to come to God and be justified and b) are those deemed lost (by Calvin's fickle diety), eternally lost? 3. Do you believe Scripture that we ALL will be judged according to our works Matt 16 27, 25:34-, Rom 2:6? 4. Do u define urself as an "elect" to have an exemption in needing to work out ur Salvation with fear and trembling or persevering to the very end as Paul in 2 Tim 4? 5) do 75 warnings in Scripture about how a righteous person can lose their salvation apply to those who think they are once saved always saved? 6) does the word Faith appear at all in the Sermon on the Mount for all those who r told will inherit the kingdom of God? cf. Matt 25 7. Do those who are made "clean" and attached to the True Vine have to remain there producing good fruit, to be saved? 8) Will God remain in you if u don't freely remain in him, or could disown someone who was never "owned" by him in the first place ? Matt 10.33 9) both Luther in his book Bondage of the Will and Calvin in his institutes deny man has freewill. If God chose whom he will save and deny before the creation of the world, would that bring Him any glory? 10) Jesus tells us the greatest commandment is to love God, ourselves and our neighbour. Is love possible at all, if we are denied free will?

For example in verse 20 it reads "may another take HIS office" Neither Peter nor the other apostles mention anything about establishing this as a process for replacing apostles. I'm afraid this just a fact. It's a very specific, and Peter makes this point well, about the replacement of Judas as a fulfilment of prophecy. We have to be careful, though, when thinking about this. Truth doesn't get worse with age. It doesn't slowly become false. You have to ask yourself what I meant when I used the word "that" when I said: "...but that doesn't speak to the truth of what they are saying (or what the secondary scholarship is saying)." The word "that", there, refers to the antecedent clause "there is a lack of engagement with the primary resources on the part of Protestants". That means that it doesn't speak to the truth of the Protestants claim *in virtue of* the fact that it is from secondary sources, which it doesn't. This misunderstanding just underscores my point that we need to think carefully about these issues.

@Patz13 I don't need to deal with it, Patz13. That has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. You just are not understanding the conversation. I'm not talking about any particular point, or any particular secondary source, or whether any source is right or wrong, or whether anybody using such sources is right or wrong. What I'm talking about is the fact, indisputable fact, that using secondary sources is not an issue and has no part in determining the truth of any claim made on the basis of such sources or any claim made by such sources themselves. I sincerely hope you understand now so that you can stop being miffed over, and stop trying to correct people over, something you simply misunderstood. By the way, even though I am a Protestant, I'm not on the "Protestant side" here. I'm very Catholic friendly. I can honestly say that I desire to be a Catholic. If you can't understand that, then there is no point in continuing to talk to you. *"You can't deal with the incompetence of your Protestant heroes."* Mike's not a hero of mine. For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.” Why did Jesus said, "Let my mother come inside" No Jesus did not say that So you know there is NO mother for Jesus Ok? Read your Bible Jesus said, "Before Abraham was, I am" So read your Bible When you talk with Mary who is DEAD, it is called Deuteronomy 18 10-12 Necromancer = talking with dead This is same as you talk with your any DEAD family members. And my Bible does not teach me to pray to Mary in the first place Correct? She was a vessel for God and he job was done when she gave Him birth Ok? Think out of box my friend!

@@childofgod4862sometimes I think protestants are more obsessed with Mary than Catholics, you can't wait to take away her power, so many protestants just have so many problems with her, and it really makes no sense for you to feel that way. Mary always only serves to magnify the Lord. She is the Mother of God, of course she is the most important fully human person that has ever lived. It's pretty clear that she was given the power to crush the head of the snake from her Son. I've seen the power of Mary first hand, as so many Catholics have. Just look to history at Guadalupe, where with one image of Mary, God was able to convert 10 million Aztec pagans to Christianity, sometimes we need that loving mother to guide her lost children back home. Christians spent 1500 years looking to Mary for intercession, it makes no sense that y'all refuse to humble yourselves before Mary now during these times when the world is lost more than ever. May God bless you and may our mother pray for you.

I was baptized Catholic as an infant. I made my first confession and communion, then as a teen I devolved into a sinful lifestyle and rejected God entirely. I said (even to myself) that I didn't believe in God, but deep down I knew I did. As I got older I started to believe in a God of my own making that "knew my heart" and would being me to Heaven regardless of my unrepentant sin. Then I was given a King James Bible and started to understand Christ for myself. I have the Bible many times through now and I also have a copy of the. Apocrypha as well. I feel such a true connection with Christ now. I heard so much anti Catholic propaganda when I was watching RU-vid videos to enhance my Bible reading that I never even considered coming back. Lately though, I've been watching a lot of Catholic content and reading the Church father. Thank you for your videos they have helped me a lot.

Catholic theologians have discussed these same and more for hundreds of years. The internet is just now allowing us to find some of those answers pointing the way back to the catholic church. So many anti-catholic hit pieces by people who don't even understand the faith it seems as though they are influenced by the devil to help spread misinformation about the church Jesus set up. Makes a lot of sense to me. I don't think protestants won't be saved but as a Catholic, I'm confident the church is the truest way, though I've been told I'm going to H*LL many times because I am Catholic. Good luck and God bless in all your discoveries.

@Paul Peter you understand Paul that all Protestant churches have their roots in the Catholic Church. When you say Satan governs the Catholic Church you're saying that you're Church came from Satan and his influence. No my friend all Protestant churches came from the mind of an excommunicated Catholic priest. If Satan was influencing anyone it would have been Martin Luther. To select one issue: St. Athanasius didn't believe in Sola Scriptura. He said that in debating Arians, Scripture was only used insofar as to defend its honor/the orthodox understanding, and not as if it was necessary or the only sole recourse. "But, beyond these sayings [of Scripture], let us look at the very tradition, teaching, and faith of the Catholic Church from the beginning, which the Lord gave, the Apostles preached, and the Fathers kept." _To Serapion_ 1:28, after citing passages about the deity of the Holy Ghost "But after him and with him are all inventors of unlawful heresies, who indeed refer to the Scriptures, **but do not hold such opinions as the saints have handed down,** and receiving them as the traditions of men, err, because they do not rightly know them nor their power." _Festal Letter_ 2:6 "But since they allege the divine oracles [Scripture] and force on them a misinterpretation, **according to their private sense,** *it becomes necessary to meet them just so far as to vindicate* these passages, and to show that they bear an orthodox sense, and that our opponents are in error ..." _Discourse Against the Arians_ 1:37 "how many Fathers can ye assign to your [Arian] phrases?" _De Decretis_ 27

Ave Christus Rex The doctrine of Sola Scriptura allows us to appeal to other authorities, but it's are not to be the final authority, since Holy Scripture alone is infallible (2 Tim 3:16). Tradition as I know it to be is basically the Gospel as St. Paul states in his epistles and even specifically as St. Irenaeus and Tertullian what was to be the Apostles creed. What tradition consists of later on at the time of St. Athanasius if I'm correct doesn't contradict Holy Scripture, some of the practices are the sign of the cross.
@reformedcatholic457
@reformedcatholic457 4 года назад
@Zachary Trent So with what you have said, would you agree St. Irenaeus view of tradition as he described it to be as the Apostles Creed? It's basically the Gospel, it agrees with Scripture since it's derived from it. Also, tradition consists of customs and practices of the Church, which Scripture doesn't mention but it's not a huge deal.

@@reformedcatholic457 "The doctrine of Sola Scriptura allows us to appeal to other authorities, but it's are not to be the final authority, since Holy Scripture alone is infallible (2 Tim 3:16)." That's what Protestants claim, yes, and yet when you cite the unanimous tradition that baptism is how you become born again, that 'doesn't comport with Scripture.' You can't have Tradition judged by Scripture if it comes from the same persons. That's why it can't work. Tradition has equal authority because it came from the same authority: the apostles taught, and some wrote, some didn't. What was written was written with chosen words. But not all that was taught was written down. "Hold fast to the things which were handed on to you, whether taught orally or written in one of our epistles." What the apostles taught orally might not have - or may even have been - in the words chosen by God. However, their teaching on doctrine to the whole church is most certainly 100% infallible, true, and equally authoritative. Because it is "not the word of men, but the Word of God."

+Ave Christus Rex: Athanasius also used the Greek Septuagint which had the 7 Deuterocanonical books, so even if he taught sola Scriptura (which he didn't), protestants don't even have the right version.
