You’ve nailed this with the “not exotic” part. This is a great signing for Chelsea. They’ve bought an established player who has played many international, champions league and premier league games. He can play across the front line and seemingly has a great reputation within the game. I’m a Newcastle fan. I’d be delighted if he signed for us.

Sterling’s off the ball movement to get to the right place in the box is elite level. He might not always have the most reliable finishing but he’s got that striker’s instinct and that gives him alot goals

I think one other reason is also that with Sterling, Chelsea will be fluid and unpredictable in attack. Last season they always tried to play to the ST and once teams marked him they were out of ideas.

Sterling is a very good complimentary piece, has his hot streaks, but is not an attacker you build around, and when he's bad, he's bad. I always thought he had the talent to be so much more of a dominant player.

'He's a nice lad, and that's probably more important' - Couldn't be more correct, he will slot straight into the group socially I would imagine. He speaks very well, he's great on camera, he will sell a lot of shirts. There are kids who idolise this guy because they didn't know him for what he was before Pep. He's been in finals, and semi finals and won trophies so he's got all the experience anyone could need to drag a team forward. It's genius from TT.

I’m really curious how Sterling will fair at Chelsea. Finishing has never been his strong suit, but his positioning is fantastic, he’s always in the right place at the right time. Pacey and a decent dribbler too. Chelsea don’t generate as many chances as City do, so perhaps that and settling into a new team might affect his goalscoring output. Will he flourish or will he flop? Manchester City fan here, been feeling really mixed emotions about this transfer. One the one hand I’m very sorry to see Sterling go, he’s been a great player for us, an excellent professional and an inspiring voice in the ongoing fight against racism. On the other hand there’s just a sense that he just could be doing more. He has missed some incredible chances over the years at City, and, as someone else rightly said, this often seems to be in the biggest games or when the stakes are highest. I think overall though I am sad to see Sterling leave but I wish him no ill will and hope that he achieves his personal objectives. Just not at our expense…

I'm a city supporter as well and I cannot believe we sold a guy with almost an identical goal conversion rate to Mohammed Salah and kept that useless player jack grealish. Sterlings worst season is leagues better than grealish. With 5 subs allowed and the signing of halaand city had the league wrapped up before it started then they just gave away all their depth. We had one fit CB to end the season from have 4 most of it, that shows just how quickly injuries can derail a season. Halaand can get injured just as mendy got injured his 1st season and never recovered. Best of luck to sterling I feel he will out two pass us at the bridge

I keep reading about Man City cast offs, but they can keep Jack Grealish. How anyone can say that Grealish for Sterling is good business makes little sense. If Mason Mount or Phil Foden ever reach Sterling's stats, they will be labelled as world class. The disrespect is not surprising.

Sterling has been given lots of respect, that's why he stayed at City for 7 years now. The thing is City has given him a lot of time and plenty of chances. They built a system with him being a focal point of attack, letting him play pretty central and giving him freedom to look for the best positions to score. His high numbers compared to Foden or Mount also stem from the fact that he plays basically as an attacker. That, although quite effective in the league, hasn't been the best of strategies in the Champions League. He disapointed pretty much against all good opositions. That's why I think City ran out of patience with him. Also now with Haaland coming the positions where Sterling likes to score from will be occupied by him.
@rishisunak2024
@rishisunak2024 2 года назад
@Dani Master I read all of that and then realised you didn't mention City spending £100m on Grealish. If have time, please go and watch Mount's misses for Chelsea. Mount is so loved by the fans that I doubt many compilations exist, so start with the League Cup final. I read an endless list detract from Sterling's achievements. It's disrespectful and it's sad.
@danimaster6647
@danimaster6647 2 года назад
@@rishisunak2024 Exactly because in this text I didn't talk about Grealish. Also I didn't really talk much about Sterlings misses. He produced great numbers for city, however wasn't able to dominate in the Champions league like other strikers are. City went out against Real and the difference between them were their strikers. Benzema but also Rodrigo and Vinicius delivered when it mattered most. None of City's strikers did that. The fact they bottled so much in recent years is why they now have to change things and they don't see Sterling on the way to become the global superstar they hoped him to be

That extra bit of context says more about player comparisons For example, Werner’s xG per shot is 0.17 (from 45 shots) and xG per 90 is 0.53 Sterling’s xG per shot is 0.26 (from 54 shots) and xG per 90 is 0.61 In 90mins, the difference between Werner and Sterling’s xG is roughly 0.08

There are some stats omitted in the video such as its not only werner underachieving his xg by 2 but also Sterling and you can check it on the site he mentions (FB ref). The table shows he has the highest xg(.18) of all the prem wingers but has significantly less non-pen goals goals compared to people with less xg like Salah and even Son on (.13). For those that say Lukaku flopped, I disagree. I think it was a case of being a bad fit for the way Chelsea played. I saw too many runs from Lukaku where passes should have been played and there was never even an attempt to make the pass. Could Lukaku have done some other things better? Without a doubt he could have. The team did not play to his strengths. Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech, and CHO were bigger disappointments for me than Lukaku.

The reason I don't think Sterling will do well at Chelsea is that he scores most of his goals 15.5 yard from the goal and Chelsea rarely gets the ball into that position. You can see on the heat map that he is more central in his shot taking, meanwhile Werner is constantly by the byline side of the 18 yard box, hence why his G/A is so bad (plus a couple of high profile missed, but not as many as people make out) Chelsea's biggest issue is purely a lack of quality chance creation and from what I see from City is that he likes to get to the byline and cross it back, which Werner does and guess what? No one is ever there because only Havertz is the main threat there and he gets shielded away from that position. This is why Raphina would have been a much better buy.

Sterling had his good seasons in 17/18 and 18/19. He scored a lot of tap-ins, which he had to be taught how to do, and that gave him the confidence to create and score goals for himself. His ability since then has gone up and down, and when he's on a down he looks bad. A lot of City fans will define him like this - go back to the last game in May. It's 2-2 and KDB passes the ball though the Villa box, if it was Sterling instead of Gündogan moving to the ball your heart's in your mouth. How do Chelsea get the best from him?
