alundur station is very complex we spent 20 mins on the station going up and down then seeing maps to see exatly how it works. very complex and interesting
@@MrNo-dc2wpyup unlike Delhi where you have change lines. Not to mention even the suburban connects the Egmore and Central to airport although not the bust terminus. With that being said the souther busses will be now from the newer terminus which is south to the city so then where a stop can be made for mrts going to chengalpattu
@@kk-ys2jd2 or 3 new bus terminus has been proposed and metro stations are also proposed to connect upto all terminus and also the new airport... well planned
I'm from Chennai, I really hope this Metro project is a huge success because all the roads are completely destroyed in Chennai right now, in the name of Metro construction work.
I recently travelled between the Chennai international airport and the central station, and it was a breeze. Hassle-free, pollution-free, stress-free. The frequency, cleanliness, punctuality, crowd - everything was good.
Mamamia it is India ie Bharat r North Indians Chinese or north Korean or Arabians coz the way u speak seems like that... Ps : don't be angry huh! I was just saying
@@pikachue602teenager learnt the word ‘mamamia’ and thinks it’s cool to use it within Indian context. And North Indians are absolutely North Indians, very different from us, South Indians. Language, culture and history.

As far as I know Chennai Metro Rail is the first project in the country that connected the airport, two importaint rail terminals (Chennai Central and Egmore) and the main bus terminus (CMBT) during phase 1 itself. There is also an approved extension of the blue line from airport to the upcoming second major bus terminus at Kilambakkam, 15 km away. When this extension is built, it will connect a third important rail terminus (Tambaram).
Hi, really good video. But there's a small piece of information you missed while talking about the Chennai Suburban system. The Chennai Suburban Railway system also covers local services on the direct route between Arakkonam and Chengalpattu via the city of Kanchipuram to the South-West of the Greater Chennai metropolitan area. With this included, the Chennai suburban system is the only system in the country to actually operate circular trains that run in either directions from Chennai Beach to Chennai Beach via Tambaram-Chengalpattu-Kanchipuram-Tirumalpur-Arakkonam. This circular route is over the 200km and is the longest suburban commuter rail route in the country. Another fascinating thing is that with trains upto Sullurpeta (in Andhra Pradesh), Chennai Suburban network is the only one in the country to run local trains across two states in a single route.
@@nikkzm3689 That’s a MEMU service not a suburban service. There’s no suburban railway in Bengaluru as of now. They only operate MEMUs which run till nearby populated cities and towns like Mysuru, Tumakuru, Hosapet, Kolar, Bangarpet, etc.
@@Vicky-ne9mt Yes, they’re building a suburban network. The primary difference between suburban rail and a MEMU commuter rail is that suburban trains have dedicated tracks along most of its routes whereas a MEMU shares tracks with intercity trains (that’s why it’s called MEMU - mainline EMU). Bengaluru is building dedicated tracks first and only then it will be able to procure rolling stock and start the suburban services. It’s still a project that is at least 1-2 years away from starting.
@@saianand.n Well that's not the way to differentiate between MEMU and EMU. Because Atipattu - Sullurpeta line of Chennai suburban railway runs merged with the main track. Same goes for the Arakonnam - Chengalpattu branch line which completes the circular route. Tambaram - Chengalpattu is still single till date. And the best part, Beach - Egmore, where suburban tracks dominate (double tracks) over the main line (single track).
Chennai has the best transportation facilities, with 1000s of gov buses which covers every corner of the city, Local trains, Metro, Share auto and cabs, with all these you no need to wait much longer in any place.
Even though the metro construction is very annoying, currently operating Chennai Metro lines are amazing and extremely well maintained. With the large amount of MTC buses, local trains and currently developing metro lines Chennai will definitely have one of the best public transportation systems. Looking forward to this
The only thing you missed was the extension of blue line to kilambakam bus terminal in the south. From airport it connected pallavaram and tambaram and kilambakam
Wow! Chennai's Transit System looks so nice and well sorted. I hope it gets constructed soon unlike Mumbai's Metro which is taking like eternity to get completed. I am really fed up of metro construction in Mumbai. Best of Luck Chennai❤
as someone who grew up in chennai and still lives , i literally grew up travelling in the blue line central - chengalpettu , and the MRTS line for last four years and literally saw the construction of the Velechery - St Thomas Mount line while growing up , sure i will say , this is a well reached video
one of the best presentation I have ever seen so far. very crispy and eye-catching. My only concern is the housing rentals once the metro system is fully operational.
Yeah true. Currently, Mylapore-Alwarpet section has become very cheap now because of the construction. PS: Mylapore is not at all a cheap place for rentals
Please make this video in English too so as to reach more people of Chennai & TN for their better understanding of this extremely interesting video. Thanks.
Chennai is surprisingly big and well distributed. So this demand is logical. But the problem is, compared to other metro cities, Chennai is sparsely populated.
@@sagarmoyjana6837 A lot of people from other parts of TN migrate here and many people travel from nearby towns to work here. The demand makes sense. It is not "sparsely populated". Of course maybe not as dense as Bombay or Calcutta, but populous nonetheless.
I use metro for everyday transit to office from CMBT to Ekkatuthangal, my trip duration is 10 mins(Rs. 24/-), the same in bus takes 30-40 mins( Rs.15-20/-), metro is best option
Finally! But disappointed that you covered so much in detail about the future of other cities but not Chennai. 1. The red line is being extended to Avadi. 2. The orange line is being extended to the Greenfield Airport. 3. The purple line is planned to be extended to Mahabalipuram. 4. The blue line is being extended to Kilambakkam in the south and Ennore in the north 5. The MRTS line is *finally* about to complete the St. Thomas Mount route, also planned to be converted to metro cars. Also, two new metrolite lines are being planned: 1. Velachery - Medavakkam - Tambaram 2. Pallavaram - Avadi - Red Hills
to connect Greenfield airport it will take another 15 to 20 years, airport land acquisition isn't complete yet and to build a new airport it will take anywhere between 5 - 10 years considering it is 2nd airport. I don't thing any new lines were planned to connect velachery, already green line connects to st Thomas station MRTS. And Velachery - Chennai beach MRTs could be handed over to Chennai metro
actually chennai metro is not the most needed one if not for MTC buses getting overcrowded - he subrban rail is quite good especially the southern one which goes to beach . We have to upgrade the Suburban rail mainly tho the coaches are old but still well maintained (Old ICF coaches) . MRTS can be easily converted to a metro and better facilities be provdied coz it is connecting the entire posh southern madras region . Bus connectivity is anyway good so yes . The roads I feel are quite wide here so even cars go without much trouble but we have to plan for the future so yes.
People currently living in areas of phase 2 of cmrl are facing the wrath of traffic due to metro construction work. Esp reaching major IT parks like Tidel park, Ramanujam IT park, siruseri. It’s a huge challenge to reach office everyday🥲 But once it is completed metro will make life very easier.
Any resources online that may help me learn any of the southern language? I want to learn Tamil (just for fun and my curiosity) but it seems intimidating.
@@-Tony-Gunk- thanks a ton man. My roommate in college was from Chennai and the poor soul tried his best speaking broken hindi even though you could get by using english. I really appreciate that. So wanna step into his shoes🤣
Chennai has the best and simplest metro way..soon it'll become number 1 in India.. Hyderabad is the worst ever metro they've built. Every IT park is dumped at Raidurg so from starting point to till raidurg the train overflows with people. At chennai we evenly distributed the tech parks in several places to achieve less traffic in metro
Chennai also needs to build a BRT system too. As for the video, it's well researched and uses a lot of relevant video footage instead of stock footage. Kudos to the maker.
Video content was very detailed with additional necessary information. keep it up. increase the frequency of video on varies infrastructure topic but don't loosen your USP.
A few exciting updates that came recently on sun news - the orange line (line 4) will have a station at the beach at the light house and in order to prevent flooding during tsunami's they have sensor vased flood gates that will automatically close and seal the station from water. Moreover, the lighthouse station has three levels, of which the bottom one will be used as a concourse for beach viewers. And the speciality of the interchange at the Karambakkam area is that- one pillar will support 5 tracks, 2 on each side and one more on the next level on top, something that's new in metro lines. A lot of interesting features, can't wait ❤❤❤
Tirupati perfect for Mono. Metro only suits for Huge cities like Chennai, Blr, Hyd. Meanwhile Mono with proper planning connecting railway station, airport, important lodges and the abode itself maybe a huge help to Tirupati.
Good presentation. One more info for you. In phase 2 the Alandur-Sr Thomas mount section of green line will be converted in to red line section. Green line will terminate at Alandur. This is a first
What you said about alandur station is correct, it is under the extension but the station is not going to be expanded by adding another floor. Instead, another metro station is getting constructed beside the alandur station and the station will be connected in that way. The reason for poonamallee will the last stop of orange line (As of now) is due to that, the AAI is planning to construct the 2nd Airport for Chennai in Parandhur. And if the project is sanctioned for the airport construction, the orange line will be extended till Parandhur airport and the expansion will be continued from poonamallee metro station. So that, it'd easy for the passengers to get connected to the airport in Parandhur as well as in meenambakkam. Both the airports will be connected by metro. That's the unique point of orange line. Hope this helps you.
chennai needs a massive upgradation of its S-Local networks....New S-lines eg. Avadi-Maraimalainagar...further development of new S-lines on the North western part of city is required....More over we need all public transport system of chennai to be Air conditionised.
I don't think Alundur should make a seperate floor. Use both St Thomas and Alundur station as cross platform interchange stations for red line. It would be great for India too. Set an example also
Again I dont understand the reason for Background score being this Loud, The Loud music literally ruins your narration and in the process the whole Video.
best train connections (local) across India will be chennai city - it has 7 different lines in operational as of now (metro and conventional ) from British period these tracks are operating
@@guardiansofgalaxy664 400 kms? The sub urban railway network in Madras is more than 1200 km in length .Madras, Bombay, Calcutta are great grand fathers compared to any other city in India in rail infrastructure running trains for local transport for almost a century.
i live in chennai phase 1 metro is on inside main city coverage only. it didnt connect suburban areas. second thing is local suburban trains are very cheap, initial chennai metro runs at high tarrif gets poor patronage and so many high infrastructure like station size concourse level, platfrom screen doors, lifts, escalators are so much on less patronage stations leads high operating cost with less income. they delayed project and not well study on construction makes almost tripled construction cost. dpr submit says estimation of 9000 cr rupees. on starting stage it shoots up to 14000 cr rupees, on final finishing it goes upto 22000 cr rupees for only 55km lenght of network. in 2023 patronage pickup but not enough parking facility is big headache. on phase 2 metro it totally opposite. 3 and 6 car automated trains sets with third rail for power, so existing metro network is useless on route sharing on same track it leads separate station construction on alandur, and some other connectivity stations. tamilnadu govt also very poor on infrastructure development. chennai cmda build new cmbt bus terminus in kilambakkam area its almost finishing stage but no metro or local suburman network is there. from thiruvanmiyur to sholinganallur national highways and state highways are messed up with double Decker road bride with metro line. lastly they cancel it only build metro line. in future expansion of roads is zero possibility and bridge construction also not possible. another big headache is chennai population goes above 1.1 crore but in mtc have only 3500 buses, day by day ritered drivers increse leads increasing not operating buses parked on shed. currently 2500 mtc buses only running. this leads public use on their private vehicle makes big mess on every roads traffic. hope after finished of metro phase 2 mtc should increase bus capacity to reduce private vehicles on road otherwise chennai become another bangalore like snail dead slow traffic movement.
Chennai metro phase 2 will use third rail? Did you even look at the DPR? Just that bit of misinformation alone negates your entire rant here. CMRL has been planning to run Phase 2 trains in Phase 1 tracks as well. That's why they are choosing blue colour for the new rolling stock as well. Your comment reeks of hate dude
Why everybody is talking about connecting it parks? Chennai effectively connects all the major state owned hospitals through metro Central - RGGGH washermanpet - stanley Kilpauk - KMC hospital Govt. Estate - multispeciality hospital Thousand lights - Royapettah GH Being a medico, i found this to be an extreme advantage, since both healthcare workers and healthcare seekers could easily travel without inconvenience
First 4 correct, but existing thousand lights station is quite far from Royapettah GH. Though upcoming Royapettah metro station is right opposite the hospital. And people talk about IT parks more because people go there daily, rather than hospitals, and IT workers are more than medicos.
Just back from Paris , chennai needs to have similar metro connectivity within city and outskirts like RER so ppl can stay away from city and travel to office by metro this will not only help the outskirts of chennai but also easy on rent n day to day savings for middle class people i could see mostly ppl working in Paris will not stay there they stay about 50-60km away from city we need to plan ahead thinking of future growth n pipulation
