I think some clubs buy up the talent so the other clubs can’t have them . Even if they don’t play them

From a club’s perspective there is a place for incentivised contract’s because it’s them that would be saving the money while someone sits around not playing but from a player’s perspective, they won’t want it because it means they have to work for something they are already getting. Bristol City’s owner wanted to bring it in years ago but it was simply a case that it would have made attracting new players even harder because why would a potential signing want to go there when they can guarantee their wage for sitting around doing very little throughout the season?!? It would take more than just one club wanting to introduce it, it would have to be every club otherwise those still willing to pay the players regardless of their playing status will attract the players. Something does need to be done about the finances involved in football, I was hoping that off the back of the pandemic we would see wholesale changes but when a relegation threatened Premier League club are paying a £10m signing from the Championship who has no Premier League experience £50k p/w, what hope is there for the rest of football lower down the pyramid? It used to be a few years ago that players not getting games in the Premier League/old Division One would filter down the divisions to carry on playing, that rarely happens now because there is such a huge difference between what they are earning to do nothing in the Premier League compared to what they would be offered to play at Championship level unless they have parachute payments & are a bigger club, which continues to give clubs a huge advantage compared to the rest! There is a lot wrong with the game right now.

Wonder if it would be worth limit contracts to younger players and then younger players are paid based on first team appearances will be extremely complicated and just a mess.

Sub keepers are different you need them for training as well.
