I think they shouldn't lose the license entirely, only the exclusivity. Let another studio try their hand at a F1 Racing game alongside EA Codemasters. Competition invokes progress. Competition is also a great thing for the consumer.

EA takeovers. The worst, as always. Any franchise they obtain, they just suck it dry. Ea acquired F1 back in the 90's, and it died within 2 years. Then as soon as codemasters was making a name for itself, EA swooped in again. I'm still playing 2021, but my all time favourite was 2012. Played all 20 teams, over 5000 hours.

Getting away from EA would be amazing. Maybe they should've listened to what the fans actually want and not adding crap that nobody asked for and just failed to advance the game features. There is no excuse when you have the community forums telling you what the fans want and the ability to deliver and still make profit. But they choose to do the bare minimum and this is the result.

In my opinion, there should be a centralized F1 game instead of releasing a new one every year. The game could feature cars and teams from different seasons, starting from 2018, for example, with a career mode that allows you to experience multiple seasons and regulation changes. It would be designed for long-term play, updated every F1 season with new liveries, cars, and quality-of-life improvements. Perhaps they could even cash in on things like liveries, having collectible one-off liveries that teams used, which could act as skins do in games like Counter Strike. I think it could work, but it would be the culmination of all other games up to this point, and would require actual work from Codemasters' side, so I doubt we'll see something like that.

They rehashed the same old tired game, repeatedly No improvement on character models, menu systems, cut scenes Anything 'new' they tried to add just failed to hit the mark No one cares about paid liveries and emotes, they're just exploiting gamers Career mode just isn't immersive and 'my team'' is severely lacking in the management side, at the very least you should be able to choose your team makes tyre strategy and pit lap.

It depends on if there is someone ready to take over straight away, and if there is, whether they have the resources required. Last time an F1 game producer lost the licence, we went 3 years without an F1 game while it sorted itself out. With F1 at an all time high in popularity, I don't imagine Liberty will want to risk a couple of years without any game at all while looking for a new licensee. Not to mention licenced games are expensive to produce and Liberty are clear about wanting an annual release. A smaller producer will simply not be able to commit to that so easily.

I often feel like what if they make a really good €60 / $60 game every 5 years and make a yearly DLC with updates of the championships (cars & drivers & stats) + add more drivers (new and old) + classic cars DLC packages so they can still earn money some way. (Kinda like Assetto Corsa/Automobilisa DLC's) I feel it would make the base game much better, more active imo

As a casual player, I only have time to play this game a few hours every few weeks. I'm not going to pay for a new game, which is basically the old game, when after 1 year I've only had the chance to play it for 40 hours. I would only buy a new F1 game every 3 years or so.
@linkuei69

I quit halfway through '21. Didn't want to pay full price for the same game every year. When it comes to sports games you are basically paying for a fresh coat of paint in the menus and updated liveries and roster lineups, oh and a new game mode that nobody asked for lol. Every year they "fix" the handling model and the physics but its hit or miss if they get it right, or at least descent. The yearly release model simply doesn't work.

I've been playing F1 since 2010 and i can agree 2018 was the glory year and imo the best balance of having a solid driver feel with all aids off and also being approachable for new fans coming into the sport .......the game of itself at the time made you want to learn more professional techniques and get better. Its also a shame because the streamers that play the game the most and again imo are the best promoters of said game its sad that they get overlooked which doesn't make sense to me because when i got into competitive sim racing it was because of this channel. Because i wanted to experience that same level of immersion and competition, watching the highs and the lows of JD's journey. All the information as a resource to a successful game are literally in the community why not use it.

I said to people that EA obtaining Codies would result in the subsequent games turning out like shit gradually, and they'll put out some sort of live service bullshit to further milk the brand and license. Sadly I was bang on the money. It's genuinely heartbreaking because since 2010 I have loved the F1 games but from F1 2021, I could see the cracks forming and getting bigger (bit like the Ego engine itself).

Hi JD. Great content. i'm a Sim Racing streamer myself. If we compare the decline of F1 games versus others comparable racing games, we can see that the quality of product is direct correlation with the sales. IMO Assetto Corsa Competitzione is the most direct competitions for F1 games since it's been released years ago, has crossplay and is available on PC + Consoles. (versus Iracing's Pc only) The sales of ACC has only risen up since it's release and is in constant evolution as per F1 Games are just in constant decline.

This is an issue every sports category with seasonal changes has. You can look at FIFA and kinda compare between this and F1. Just looking at the audience you're already at a much higher average age for an F1 fan - you can play and understand the rules of football at any age but you're limited when it comes to driving or even understanding a car. But those 2 games also have the same issues - being seasonal. And that comes with little changes every year so its hard to notice except there's a big change in the sport itself or some big graphic related thing. We could also talk about the prices of wheels or setups in general just to even play the game. Take this in consideration + the price tag for the game every year, all the bugs we see on a seemingly copy/paste game and you get a winner for the "dying game" award.

Recently I took a break from the F1 games, played alot of GT7 and a little bit ACC on console. both of them pretty good games, Gt7 with a very very good handling model which is challenging and ACC with the variety of setup options (nerdy but i like it) So although these two games are very good, I returned to F1 23 few days back, and there's so many things that this game does right, like the Ai battles, and feeling through the tires, maybe not as good as GT7 but still good, the major problem is, Everything is a copy and paste for last 3 years and theres nothing new to explore or get challenged by, I personally would love A good handling model, classic cars and updated tracks and a good career mode ofc. thats all

@alphapapa5539 3 дня назад
I think the price has a lot to do with it as well as when the game is released. I might be wrong but the game is released towards the end of the F1 season when a couple of months later, drivers are at different teams, liveries, sponsors, designs etc. Also the game is getting more and more expensive and there is a lack of new features worth paying £55+ for.

I mean they released a game and literally said it wont be ready till an update. Who the hell does that. They got no one to blame but themselves. They dont listen to the players at all they barely listen to the esports guys who play it for a living. I never seen a company that doesnt care what customers think. They also said they are not changing the handling model and classic cars will not return. So crap handling and couches is the goal. 75% loss of sales since last year is just nuts but makes sense

The f1 24 is the best game in comparison with the previous ones in terms of car control, now you can actually drive that thing, rotate the car, catch a drift and so on. Yeh something is way off here, because I don't even think it's about the quality of each individual game anymore. Both the '23 and '24 games (despite the bugs) are much better than '22 imo. But I think they've pissed off so many players (especially with the '22 game) that they've just moved on from the franchise altogether and won't play these games any more full stop, regardless of whether they improve them. They're playing other games instead. '22 was their big chance to get and retain a new player base with EA coming on board, but they totally blew it. That's a hard fail in my book, and time for someone else to get the license.

I'm a guy that likes realism. When I drove league racing in 2019, 20 and 21 I actually felt like I drove an f1 car. It's sounds cringe, but it felt fast and it was a joy. All the bugs in the game I could survive, -200 degrees for example. If the game makes me enjoy spending my time on it, I'm okay with it. Since 2022 with the f1 life things and general handling issues I completely lost it. I drove 5 leagues a week in 19 and 20 and in 22 I drove 1. I didn't enjoy it. It's not Sims 4. We don't care about a couch or carpet. I bought f123, but played it like 100 hours. iRacing is just so much better. Every track is laserscanned, every car is perfectly detailed and it feels right. Yes f1 might be for a wider audience, but if the core leaves, then what is left? I didn't buy 24. No way I'm spending 80 pounds for that. That's 8 months on iRacing. They don't evolve the game and it get's worse every year. I'm sad about it because some of the best times in my life has been racing on the f1 games against people who love the sport. The downfall is just crazy and it comes from EA and Codemasters being arrogant and ignorant to their fanbase- just watch the FIFA or Madden communities. Alex Gillon made a video about EA and Codies not listening to the creators and Esport drivers. Aarav as well. Just not good enough. Personally I won't drive the games again before a new engine or some really encouraging video material and I think the only way to get EA and Codies to do better is buy showing them that we don't accept their ignorance.

F1 IRL is a super violent experience as the cars have almost no suspension, and yet in all those F1 games the road is silky smooth and the car feels like it just glides above it. This isn’t just happening to F1 games, it’s happening across gaming full stop (see Ubisoft and WB games). The economic climate and inflation have played a part but it’s things like: The actual below par game content Putting out umpteen editions of the same game (standard, gold and deluxe) The ridiculous pricing (£79,99 to £129,99 for buggy slop) and community managers who sneer at their own customers when they say the game is rubbish. and the customer is starting to wise up to what these AAA studios have been doing these days and are voting with their wallets.

The devs haven't done anything for the online community since forever. why we keep yearly releases? Just do one game for an entire regulation set, should give them more than enough time to make better release, as well as allowing the current game to be improved and refined just like teams refine their cars as regulations mature. This could allow an option at the end of the regulations a mode where career mode follows the evolution of teams throughout the whole set of regulations.

My experience with the F1 games. Bought 2010, 2011 saw these are the same with some changes so bought every so often. Then EA bought Codemasters and I said nah. Bought 22 and that was it

As a controller user, I find these latest games really terrible it's too slow and can't utilize the downforce in the high-speed corners as you can't flick the steering as you have wanted. Whenever I miss playing F1 my go-to games are 2018 and 2020(there's some delay though but not as terrible as the F1 22 and 24)

It's interesting looking back at the F1 2010 developer videos. You got a real sense of passion for replicating the 'authenticity' of the sport. I still miss the "be the driver" aspect of that game and they never evolved on it. The games visually look the best they've ever looked, and I do appreciate they've continued to support the F2 updates. But some of the much more interesting modes have been cut or lost over time. And the things that have replaced them (like point break) feel like superficial additions to appeal to a market that have no interest in the games at all. And I feel like they put a ton of effort into that mode! Wasted effort. They never seem to actually stick with a mode and evolve it - and that's the crux of my problem with them. Hell, they've not even ensured each years game has had the latest track updates in the official calendar. F1 24 is the first Codemaster F1 game I haven't bought. Not even with the 40% sales they've been pushing that just price the game the same as they used to cost on release.

if they really want a game people want they should have a career that starts you off in karts and you progress through all the lower open wheel series until you get in f1

For me, as someone with limited dexterity and mobility the f1 games require more consistent precision than I can mentally and physically handle 😅 I hit a wall almost every lap or I’m lance stroll levels of slow.

Having multiple developers taking turns on making a game is definitely not recommended or a good recommendation. I've not heard of a single franchise that pleased their fanbase that way. The only one that's been successful is Call of Duty and they piss off their fans on a much grander scale - but they also cater to a much less niche market. There would either need to be simultaneous game development or - more ideally - a dedicated single developer with maybe smaller side titles that maybe don't have licenses for the teams and drivers but definitely at least can use the generic F1 model vehicle (something like the NFL Blitz games or something of that nature) or maybe even dedicated developers for like F2 or maybe there will be some actual motivation when say a Indycar game comes out.

I've never really understood why any racing sim would be an annual release... stop making us pay 60, 70, 80+ dollars for a game every year. It would be great if they treated it closer to iracing. With tech the way it is today make the game with like a console life cycle and update it. Every year release a bigger update to address graphics upgrades, ai improvements, real world changes and charge 20 bucks. Some of us are just done spending so much for an annual game that gets very little attention after release and doesnt allow growth within the game. Play for awhile buy a new one and start over... gets old. Just let me play my team for 4 or 5 years and be more realistic that way without the fomo effect that new shiny game has.

These games have had the same bugs for years. I’ve had it where I get graphical glitches on Ps5, I’ve got a penalty for overtaking under a yellow flag when I’ve been in 1st amongst others. When I used to play on PC it was the same. Also, there’s no need to upgrade when there are no new tracks. Why not put in there old tracks that aren’t on the calendar? India, Sepang, South Korea, Turkey etc.

Imo there should be 2 f1 games: one sim-cade like the current one, and one more simulator, maybe structured like le mans ultimate, I mean, you don't have to buy the game every year but there will be some premium content every season

Feels like they are catering to the “casual” fan but to me that’s the wrong approach. Racing games in general appeal to the more hardcore fans, so by adding more gimmicks it fails to attract casuals while repelling the fans who really just want a solid competitive racing experience

That would be nice if Rockstar could build the F1 game. What they did with the GTA game was incredible. But yeah, E&A needs to either have open competition or replace for another company. I enjoy the F1 24 game after the handling update as the racing itself is fun, but the bugs that remains after so many years and the lack of improvement in certain areas really hurts their reputation. Also at day 1 of 2024 game was just a clown show because the handling was horrible. I am not sure if their revenue was reduced as you can generate the same ammount of revenue by increasing the game cost and they have been doing this over the last decade. So, number of sales.. yes, decreased but revenue.....

EA should've replaced Codies management, period. I know there was a decision to keep the old physics engine due to the next-gen console shortages. However, the decision to keep it could have been better. Also, the business model of releasing a yearly release is seriously hindering the development and progress of this franchise. The resources will eventually peel off to start developing the newest release. We see the risks because they stumble on basic fundamentals in every release. In other words, it seems they are learning from scratch every year. The game would be supported if they had a subscription model or adopted the same model as Forza Motorsport, which releases a new game every 4 years. Why reinvent the wheel every single year? It's weird. If they change to a subscription model (lets say, $9/month), they will get more revenue and because its a subscription model, the valuation of the franchise will have a 10x valuation, therefore, they could hire more talent and have more leverage to sponsorship deals. On that note associated with sponsorship, they don't do enough to take advantage of those logos that we see 24/7 verses on race day. The number of sponsors on the cars, tracks, locations like Vegas, etc, is a gold mine! Why are they not taking advantage of this? There are so many lost revenue opportunities to develop this game.

At the end of the day, the license holder sell it to the one paying the most money. Unless they really damage the F1 brand itself, they will just go what gets them the most. And i think it will keep EA, since its a brand with a reputation, money and experience with annual sport games. There arent many brands like that out there that might be able to do that annually. That being said, i dislike EA with their bare minimum approach and focus on loot boxes and/or disappointing DLCs. I miss the Geoff Crammond GP series.

I think the problem is that F1 24 has been launched too early in fact as a beta, now the game is much better, probably better than F1 23, but it's too late because steam has been already flooded with bad reviews of the "pre-release"
