I would put my grass finished f1 angus/wagyu or Hereford/wagyu cross up against anything on the commercial corn finished market. Bring it on.

Ok. Rate of gain. Go! ;-) We're sure you've got great beef. We do too. Thanks for stopping by...

@@NebraskaStarBeefAh, but there's the conundrum. If you could graze on the land that has corn being grown on it would gain be such a big deal?
@rexmann1984

I'm a carnivore. I'll take whatever is most economical. But corn fed beef is tax subsidized beef because corn is a subsidized crop. And that's a fact that can't be ignored. I think the meat industry needs to have a sit down and figure out what's actually the most efficient way to turn grass into steak.

Our operation has raised both grass fed/finished F1 Angus/Wagyu and grass fed + “Wagyu mix” finish which has rolled corn, oats, beet pulp and barley. To my taste, the latter was a much better tasting steak. And the steers hit 14-1500lb in about 22 months vs 26 or more for the grass fed.

@@Summitclym I realize that with the way current operations are ran. That's an important difference. However, if we weren't growing those crops for the cows but had that land as more pasture. I think we would have healthier beef and the time to gain would be irrelevant. It's also possible that maybe the latter tastes better because it is more nutrient dense. TYFYS

Corn fed beef is horrible for you and causes the very thing you wish to reduce - inflammation. Corn fed beef ends up with huge amounts of Omega 6's. Grass fed & finished beef ends up with large amounts of Omega 3's. There simply is no reason why someone who is a carnivore does not know the simplest basic facts about what they're eating.

I’ll state this… I’m no farmer. So my wife and I have had grass fed grain finished beef from 3 different farms. To us personally, it smelled and tasted like manure. Others ate the same beef and said it was the best they’ve ever had. But we did have a favorite from a 4th farm. We LOVE the meat! Come to recently find out, they finish with corn! So it is less healthy perhaps… but we don’t eat a ton of it. When we do, I want to pay for deliciousness! Kudos to those who find grass fed, grain finished to be tasty. We just don’t prefer the flavor. And our favorite cut is the strip! I thought I was crazy for not preferring tenderloin or ribeye until I saw this video. He likes the NY strip the best also!😂

Is it possible to raise non GMO corn?

Is there such things as organic corn fed?
@NebraskaStarBeef
@NebraskaStarBeef 9 месяцев назад
If one were able to secure a supply of "Certified Organic Corn" and all other "organic" requirements were met for the cattle, it would be possible. The vast majority of corn raised these days is GMO which precludes it from being classified "organic". Thanks for stopping by and the question!

I don't think anyone is going to believe corn fed is better than grass fed. Corn fed is less expensive, so its the only reason people most buy it. If grass fed was cheaper the consumer would buy it instead.

100% corn fed beef is the best beef there is. I had it years ago, my dad and i ate 3 pounds of it for burgers. The hamburger crumbled in our mouths and it was so juicy. 5 guys burgers is at least partially corn fed, i could taste it.

Except corn isn’t good for you because it’s GMO.

Its actually because it raises your insulin, making you metabolically sick, as well as other reactions that your body may have because of it like inflamation

Not if you let the cattle turn the corn into delicious, nutritious beef before you eat it. ;-)

Regarding the 'corn is natural feed' for cows, well.....not really. Unlike grass and alfalfa (which you mentioned), corn will not grow....at least to any amount....without human intervention. You will NOT have fields of corn without it. Hey......I'm not a '100% grass' fanatic, but corn....at least as most people know it....requires humans to grow it. Not so grass and other 'wild' weeds which cows enjoy. Let's REALLY point out corn's real value......aside from silage being nutrient dense. It gets the beef to market more quickly. 18-months on the hoof for corn-fed cattle, and about 30 months for the grass-fed/grass-finished. For industrial high-output ranching, it's pretty much a requirement. Smaller margins and higher volume. I've had plenty of grass-fed/grass-finished beef with more than enough 'fat' to satisfy me anyway.

We raise a bunch of corn and wheat too... Corn grows just fine if the seeds find some soil; just ask anyone who rotates soy beans behind corn. If we're gonna talk about questionable cattle feed, let's talk about some classics: chicken poop.... spoiled vegetables from grocery stores...maybe bakery waste...?? Corn is a calorie dense feed source that in conjunction with the right roughage, has allowed beef producers to deliver high quality, economical beef to a world market. Grass fed is great too, and we're glad folks have a choice in the market. Would just be nice if the southern hemisphere grass fed beef had to be labeled as such...but I guess splitting hairs is splitting hairs...

Where your messing up is feeding DDGS this wet milled product contains higher sulfur from sulfuric acids used in processing corn into different products. This is making meat tougher and doesn’t taste as good. Keeping cattle fed good hole grains steam flaked is good food with silages and hay. Don’t destroy the beef market by using theses cheaper no count proteins. To many people complaining to this 70 year old farmer about meat not tasting as good nowadays. Feed them high quality food and get higher quality meat. It’s that simple. Feed junk get junk.

Interesting perspective. We feed silage and steam flaked corn; tenderness and flavor are what we hang our hat on... thanks for stopping by.

When I eat grass fed beef, I get a film/paste on the roof of my mouth. What is it? Doesn't happen with corn finished.

can't help you with that one, might be worth reaching out to some grass fed beef companies.
