COVID-19 precipitated a decline in mental health. As depression and anxiety hit staggering highs globally, teenagers and young adults suffered perhaps more than most. With the erosion of real-world social contacts and activities and little prospect of a plannable future, young people today continue to experience mental-health issues at alarming rates.
In this forum, The Atlantic convened medical experts, educators, families, and young people themselves to explore some of the tools that can provide a path back to a life of happiness and purpose.
Speakers:
Vivek Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General
Kate Julian, Senior Editor, The Atlantic
Amanda Mull, Staff Writer, The Atlantic
Zak Williams, Mental-Health Advocate and Son of Robin Williams
Holly Wilcox, Professor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Amit Paley, CEO and Executive Director, The Trevor Project
Robin Koval, CEO and President, Truth Initiative
Miana Bryant, Founder, The Mental Elephant
Daniel Ament, President, Fight4Wellness
Grounded in the 160-year legacy of the magazine, AtlanticLIVE brings the unparalleled journalism of The Atlantic to life through singular event experiences, on stage and off.
