The Dallas Cowboys have interestingly been quiet in free agency so far, while the NFC East rivals got better with the help of signing running backs. Colin Cowherd looks at how the running game has affected Dak's game stats. Former Baltimore Ravens LB Patrick Queen signed a three-year, $41 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They also traded WR Diontae Johnso to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for CB Donte Jackson and a 2024 sixth-round pick. However, Colin is not super fond of the move and emphasizes the importance of building a stronger offense than spending on another linebacker.

And Steelers haven’t brought in any linebacker, that was good. We been tryin to fix this position with duct tape. Queen has his issues but he’s better then a lot and look at some of these Linebackers that get Queen money never heard of these guys. And dionte was an issue, and Steelers got Russel for min, which he will probably be better then kenny by far. And Steelers will draft a Wr in the draft and everyone will freak out when he’s good

$17 million cap hit in 2025 & 2026. There’s like 3 off-ball linebackers that are worth that. Luckily the Steelers have themselves a potential out after the 2024 season in case Queen’s play was just being propped up by Roquan Smith.

I never really liked Tomlin and I've been a Steelers fan for 45 years. We always seem to be mediocre with Tomlin, never building a dominant team. The Rooney's keep signing him to more years , kills me.

DJ was too inconsistent and had some issues last year in the locker room. You know we'll draft a gem at WR so that's not an issue. Queen fills in so well with our defense so that's not overspending at all. I don't agree with Collin's take here at all. He doesn't know who DJ really is.

Fails to mention ILB has been a weakness for years and this fixes it. Also forgets to mention, Diontae Johnson apparently wasn’t a great teammate last year and the Steelers will probably draft another star like they always do. Oh, and there are still several wide receiver prospects still around in Free Agency.

I don't like Colin much either but I'm not blind enough in my dislike to realize he makes a good point. I think he probably takes it too far in the criticism, because I actually like having a consistently top 10 defensive unit year in and year out. However Tomlin's offensive success in the early years was clearly related to Roethlisberger. I don't think it's coincidental things have been on a decline for several years now. Why? Tomlin has an inability to make the bold right moves on time when they actually need to be made. He waited one year too long to draft a QB. He waited one year too long to fire Canada. He waited one year too long to draft a center (presuming he drafts one this year). The indecisiveness on the offensive side of the ball makes us continually one year behind. And I'm not buying this Russell Wilson signing at all. Denver rather pay 85 million to make him go away and play for someone else. Really HONESTLY think about that implication for a second, and what that says about Sean Peyton's evaluation in Wilson's decline. Wilson won't work out like what the yinzer NPC's think. And then we're right back where we are when Ben retired.

He only had major success with Drew Brees, just like Tomlin only had success with Big Ben, and i’d say Tomlin has done better without his HOF QB than Payton has

As a Steelers fan... we dont spend a lot on free agency at all. Patrick Queen was the biggest money we spent in awhile. The oline...we drafted Jones and signed Isaac Seomalu. Draft an RT/C and the oline is fixed. Not the same thing the Steelers do at all.

We spend on defense because we don't have a QB to pay for. Look back when we had Ben, AB, and those guys... it was probably more balanced than what it is now. This a stupid take. We haven't found a qb worthy of paying top dollar...sure if we had Mahomes, Allen, etc.. we would load on offense. Also, we have struggled to stopped the run and have been plugging the MLB spot with older guys and not young blood. This is the first guy since the Devin Bush failed experiment and Ryan Shazier injury that we hope can provide long term stability. Lastly, you have to build your roster to win your division first. The afc north is built on strong defenses. The rams and other teams outside of the division and conference play different styles.

I don't understand the problem with signing queen at middle linebacker.this shows that cowherd doesn't really watch the steelers. The steelers' biggest weakness on defense has been middle linebacker. queen was an awesome move. The steelers have been searching for a middle linebacker since Shazier and finally have one. Also i don't think the steelers are anywhere near done making moves. Also the steelers got a good value for queen. People thought he was going to get as much as 18 million a year, and the steelers got him for a little under 14.

Diontae Johnson wanted out and his contract expires. The reason why the offensive spending is so low is Russ is being paid $38 million by Denver and most of their starters are on rookie deals. Pickens, Freirmuth, Najee, and Warren are all due for contract extensions soon. This is a great example of reporting to fit a narrative.

Colin harps on the same knock on Pittsburgh “they can’t get the o-line right for 5-6 years” he clearly hasn’t watched a game from us. Our o-line is constantly getting better, Broderick Jones is a star tackle, and each of the last two years we brought in a solid guard in free agency and they’ve lived up to the bill. Our o line is one of the best at run blocking.

I agree and as a Steelers fan, I hate it. If youre not the offensive guy, hire the guy. Canada wasnt the guy, and we kept him for 3 years. Line has sucked for forever. Cant run, cant pass protect. Defense was never the problem. Defense cant stay healthy because theyre always on the field. Top 3 in defensive time of possession, NOT a good stat.

Steelers got Patrick queen for a little over 13.5 million a year, which he was rumored to be offered 18+. So it’s not a fortune. And diontae is a second rounder out of Toledo who wanted out, his numbers have steadily gone down over the past three years, in total yards and touchdowns, so why exactly would the Steelers want to resign him for a ridiculous rate, when they can turn to a loaded draft class? Or even get someone in free agency. It’s cool to talk about this stuff, but Colin consistently is wrong about 80% of what he talks about bc people give him 1 page of notes and he just assumes that it’s all true and he is all knowing lol

So, former coaches and players are praising the Steelers signings and trades so far, yet someone who never played football is being overly critical. I will take former professionals opinions over Colin's opinion everyday of the week. 1. DJ is a #2 receiver that has been around 6 years. Most receiver's top years are years 3-6. He is a diva that isn't team first, who quit on plays last year. He has a history of dropping critical passes. Saying he is a promising young receiver is a joke. He is a solid #2 receiver entering the second half of his career. Unlike Colin, the Pittsburgh fans watched this guy play week in and week out. 2. The Steelers had issues protecting the middle of the field last year due to injuries and play. Queen is a three down backer that can cover, he will help strengthen their weakness on defense. Note to Colin: If the chiefs defense didn't throttle the 49'ers offense in the second half of the super bowl, the Chiefs would have lost that game. The chiefs defense as much as their "vaunted" offense is as much the reason they got to the super bowl and won it. Defense still matters.

I get what Colin is saying, but the stat about Dak and the Cowboys when the run the ball 30+ times is dumb. They aren't winning games because they run the ball so much, they run the ball so much because they take early leads and need to run the clock out in those games. In games against good teams, you typically need to play from behind and throw more, and they lose those. Can say the same about the Dolphins.

This whole Dak is dependent on a run-game narrative is so misinformed. Every QB would be better with a stable running game. And there is plenty of value in a day RB in this draft. Better value to just draft one then overpay for a veteran.
