Havana City what to do in the Capital City of Cuba? This is the multicultural centre of Cuba. They has a pink palace, great museums and some kind of old fashioned charm that we don't see often in Europe or the US. Be sure to watch the fading baroque buildings, painted in tropical yellows and reds. This city has centuries of history. It showcase an interesting colonial atmosphere, beautiful modern skyscrapers. Havana Cuba Walking Tour including street food. Locals likes to say: Asi es 'Cuba hoy' this is 'Cuba today'. Cuba is not what you think it is.

I wouldn't want to live there, but having been to Habana once, I'd like to visit again and see more of the country. I enjoyed the people, art and music. Food was OK but not a lot of variety and some things are scarce. We made friends there easily through our contacts. Unlike Mexico and other countries, where a lot of English is spoken, having Spanish skills would help a lot. Interesting history, buildings, and monuments of course.

I watch these videos, always with a tinge of sadness. What would Ernest Hemmingway think of Cuba today? Its a balancing act with tourists - eating all the scarce food as opposed to getting currency into the country.

@@pategan6747 That's an interesting point, though I don't know if it reflects reality. Cuba imports most of its food, and tourism is a great deal of the economy. The contribution has fluctuated with Covid and the recovery. Meal for meal, you have to admit that the population of tourists at any time is minuscule compared to the resident population. I read that some food imports are controlled by the military and ends up in government stores and tourist businesses. I know it is sad situation. The people should not be so poor.

As a solo female traveler I rented a small apartment in Vedado and would walk daily to the old town or even to Fabrica de Arte at odd hours of the night (accompanied off course), without ever feeling unsafe. Cuban people are very hospitable, very sympathetic and sociable. But what shocked me most is how educated they are, I'm not necessarily talking 'book smart' although yes it's very true for a lot of them, but they have an incredible level of knowledge and wisdom regarding the human condition, philosophy and spirituality as well. This is a country where you’ll learn the true value of 'don't judge a book by its cover' and where you might learn your biggest life lesson from chatting with an elderly sitting on a bench at Parque Central. My best memories from travelling will forever be from visiting Cuba. It thought me how to stop running and looking for things to fulfill me outside of myself. There, I found myself doing things like setting up and alarm to watch the sunrise on the Malecon. I found myself coming to terms with coexisting with the neighbours' rooster cackling at all time of the morning, coexisting with all the other elements of nature which are bigger than we could ever comprehend. I don't want to seem idealistic or make it sound like everything is perfect in Cuba, on the opposite. According to my Canadian eyes, I saw lots of things needing 'fixing'. But above that, what I choose to remember from this magical island is the people, so proud of their culture they will do anything to protect it from becoming just that, history. There are 666 comments before me. What an honour it is from me to share part of my history forever meshed with that of Cuba.

Cuba me duele mucho. #NOTRAVELTOCUBA, #SOSCUBA, #CUBAESTADOFALLIDO

Unfortunately, Latin America is passionate about socialism, hence the misery and poverty in the region. I live in Brazil, a country where after being arrested for embezzling billions of dollars in corruption scandals and using Brazilian resources to help the Venezuelan and Cuban dictatorships, Luiz Inácio LULA da Silva won the last elections to be president of the country. This victory of socialism in Latin America comes largely thanks to the large international media, partly socialist, which accused our previous president of promoting deforestation in the Amazon, and now with Lula in power, deforestation has increased even more and Brazil has returned with its policy of helping neighboring socialist dictatorships. I ask you foreigners to research the risks that Brazil and Argentina are currently experiencing of becoming socialist dictatorships. Currently, President Lula is trying to pass a gag law in Congress to prevent the population from expressing themselves on social networks. the project has no chance of passing the congress, which is mostly right-wing here in Brazil, but the STF, which is the Brazilian supreme court, which mostly has members appointed by the current president Lula, said that it would prevent social networks in Brazil if the project did not pass, in a clear demonstration of his dictatorial interests. Pray for Latin America.

17 $ a month, but if you add no rent, no taxes and free medical care (which is quite good - the Cubans' life expectancy is quite high), it becomes hundreds if not thousands... And if talking about times before the revolution - there were some rich streets and lots of those as you show in your vodeos. In fact, Havana was sometimes called "a brothel of Florida". People often forget about dark sides, seeing only casinos and bars for rich people.

@@WannaWalk Western countries are all vassal states of the USA. At the end of the day, these countries don’t have full freedom and if USA would want certain countries to not fully invest in Cuba those countries would listen. I don’t know what glasses you put on to not see this and to ridiculously ask for proof or sources or whatever just open your eyes and take a look at how 99% of the time western countries align themselves with USAs interests. Want more concrete examples? I’ll give you one. A few months ago The UN assembly adopted a resolution submitted by Russia: "Combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance". Obviously you’d expect European countries to vote in favor right? Well guess what USA aren’t fond of Russia for resisting their military expansion so they voted AGAINST. Guess who else voted against? Big majority of Western Europe. I’m not even gonna begin about how the sanctions against Russia actually impact way more Western Europe and every politician knows this but yet still does as daddy usa wishes. Cuba is poor for 2 reasons: 1-(main one) USA 2-almost the only communist country in capitalist world.

U.S. proxies seized cuban goods aboard a Korean ship in the Panama canal. Any ship which has traded with cuba cannot enter an American port for 6 months which makes it very difficult logistically for ships that might trade with Cuba to even make a fuel stop on their way back around. This is very intentional, a seige tactic the u.s. resorted to after backing the bay of pigs invasion failed so miserably
@owabowa
@owabowa 2 месяца назад
Companies that trade with Cuba can be punished by the US and the US can ban them from entering american markets (that is thousands of times bigger than Cuba's) as well. So no, it is not as simple as "Cuba can trade with anyone other than the US".

Old men and women can sit and sing together in the streets. They listen to each other's problems in the shopping queues. they socialize. What a blessing. Cubans are luckier than all Europeans and Americans. In America, people don't even greet each other. Cubans are very lucky. He may be poor, but socializing is more important. Cuba obviously has enormous tourist potential. Despite its high HDI some of the Havana residents look undernourished. Im sure if they just dealt with Havana's shabby/rundown street environment and some modern conveniences ( refridgerated food ) would enduce an much more positive impression of the country.

Cuba looks just fine...the old buildings look beautiful, it feels right, the place feels so right and the old cars man, classic. I bet you there are no beggars standing on street corners begging for change; even any homelessness. In NZ, beggars are almost at every traffic light. It is a sad side-effect of a so-called developed nation with a capitalist ideology.

I was just in Havana for the first time last month. I stayed for four days. I enjoyed my stay. What I did not enjoy, however, was lack of catalytic converters on the vehicles on the road. They are non-existent. It was something I didn't think of before I arrived. The exhaust fumes from the vehicles are choking and gave me a headache more than once. I do understand why they don't exist there given there circumstances but just be prepared to inhale those fumes though constantly if you visit

I visited Cuba in 2019 just before Trump put the kabash on cruise lines like Carnival which is what I was on. The country from the short time I was there was a sharp contrast from what I expected. The people were very friendly of course and the tourist stuff abounds. Also the places where we were taken to eat were more abundant in food for us than the people normally gets according to our guide. I truly enjoy watching these behind the scenes videos because we did not have enough time to see this.

Four Cuban karate fighters left the Cuba Team this weekend with which they had traveled to Oaxtepec, in the state of Morelos, Mexico, to participate in the qualifying tournament for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile and the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador de 2023. These athletes are Claudia C. Sánchez Pupo, Onelis Hernández Polledo, Maikel Alejandro Noriega Silverio and Lázaro Jordan Chapman Mora. In June 2022, four other Cuban karate fighters left the delegation with which they traveled to Guatemala to train for the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, on that occasion it was Sunilda Ventosa from Havana, Gerardo Almenares from Santiago and Cienfuegos. They would give Díaz and Yaidel Hernández. Also in 2022, the former member of the national karate-do team Elisabeth Vasallo denounced the situation suffered by those who practice this sport in Cuba. Among the numerous athletes who took advantage of trips abroad to leave the Island in 2022 were the Olympic boxing champion in Tokyo 2020, Andy Cruz; and boxer Dainier Peró, gold medalist at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Also boxers Kevin Brown (67 kg) and Herich Ruiz (86 kg) deserted from the national delegation during the Continental Championship held in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in March past. In the fight, one of the most significant "casualties" was that of the Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling (59 kg) in Rio 2016, Ismael Borrero, who "deserted" from the delegation with which he traveled to Acapulco, Mexico, where he would participate in the Pan American Wrestling Championship 2022. Amanda Hernández (53 kg), Leonardo Her (60 kg), Cristian Solenzal (65 kg) and Yolanda Cordero (62 kg) did not return from that same championship. While taekwondoka Yamitsi Carbonell (+73 kg) left Team Cuba with which she traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, to participate in the 25th edition of the World Championship of this discipline. Among the “escapes” from athletics, those of the javelin thrower Yiselena Ballar and the discus thrower Yaimé Pérez stood out; both left the national delegation with which they traveled to the United States last July to participate in the Eugene 2022 World Athletics Championships.

The country has plenty of potential. If I return for a visit to Cuba, I will visit the countryside (places like Vinales) and provincial cities like Trinidad. Havana is downright depressing, with filthy streets littered with garbage, crumbling buildings everywhere, disgusting street food, and non-stop touts trying to scam tourists in Old Havana. I visited last year, and realized to what extent the Cuban economy depends on tourism and the hard currency that it brings in. All of that dried up during Covid when it was impossible for tourists to enter the country. Some of the commenters praising free rent, free healthcare and all the other free stuff have clearly not been there. The hospitals have zero medical supplies, and the pharmacies have bare shelves. Cuba is experiencing a high level of inflation (just like the US), while the Cuban Government has not increased wages.

My wife and I went to Varadero Cuba in 2009 for a vacation and many people have asked me what it was like ...in terms of do I recommend it? It really does depend on what a person is looking for. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to lie in the sun, where you feel safe and where the food is okay to eat, then Cuba may work for you. Be prepared however for a few stark realities. There is an extremely limited selection of consumer goods to be found anywhere on the island. Forget about eating steak while you are there...the main foods are locally caught fish, eggs, poultry and pork products. If you use a washroom outside of the resort, keep in mind that toilet paper is a highly priced commodity in Cuba and you will have to pay for a few pieces of it. The beer is really good. Crystal and Buccanero are the main brands. After consuming copious quantities of both I cannot however tell you which is better. Don't count on finding things like batteries for cameras etc. on the island so it is best to bring spares of those types of things. If you are planning to send a postcard home, you will only be able to find BW pictures of either Fidel Castro or Che Guevera. Things you should also pack are a couple of sleeves of Pringles (local junkfood snacks are horrible) and a couple of family packs of gum to include a single pack with your daily tips to your room cleaners.

The street food is truly awful in Cuba, compared to Mexico. It would probably be much better and more varied (not just lousy pizza) if ingredients were more readily available, but basic necessities are in short supply. My experience last year was that of a backpacker in Havana, not the superficial all-inclusive resort experience in Varadero. Although I'm happy to have seen Cuba, I did find Havana to be rather oppressive with the crumbling buildings and neglected infrastructure, filthy streets with piles and rubble and garbage on every corner and non-stop, extremely persistent touts trying to scam me in the touristy areas (especially on Obispo). I hope that the Cuban Government can get their act together to clean up that place because it has tremendous potential for tourism.

@@musicaquecalma4134 - That is a nonsensical outlook. The only good jobs in Cuba are in the tourist industry and the only way the outside world will know how life is in Cuba is by people going there. @@gcmgome Do you know why I have issued that opinion? Let me explain: unfortunately, I WAS BORN and LIVED all my life under the boot of the scoundrel Fidel Castro Ruz. Another thing, few people in Cuba live from tourism, they represent very little the majority of the people who live on the only and poor salary that the dictatorship pays them. Our people NO longer want the communists, and every Cuban who lives in freedom is trying to fight to get this aberrant plague out of our country; one of the ways is to cut off their business and another is to REPORT THEM like this everywhere. Why don't the people get them out anyway? Because he is imprisoned in a prison-island, they do not have ANY weapons to defend themselves or to attack; In addition, Fidel was so evil that he filled the country with State Security agents, civilian infiltrators in EVERY workplace, schools, universities, public places and blocks of houses where people live. Although most of the people are already opening their eyes and a year ago they took to the streets en masse to ask for freedom.

We Cubans compare emigration from Cuba with what existed before 1959, when people did not even think about emigrating in the worst moments of Cuba's history as they do now, which seems desperate and highly dangerous in many of the ways. to emigrate, things that were not done before 1959. In fact, the term "rafter" appeared in Castro times, it did not exist before 1959. Many rafters have lost their lives at sea. Someday in Cuba a mausoleum will be erected to the unknown rafter, in memory of so many Cuban emigrants who lost their lives at sea, without forgetting those murdered by Castro on the tugboat March 13.
