While at the same time I do believe that Sidious was one of the most powerful the modern Sith and certainly the most knowledgeable, Luke was spot on when he was brought before the Emperor and told him, 'your overconfidence is your weakness.' Sidious could not accept the idea that he would fail. He intellectually saw ways he could be challenged or circumvented and worked to ensure that they would be rendered powerless or destroyed. Going after Maul and Savage Opress and later, Windu and the Jedi Masters. But what he couldn't or rather, I believe, wouldn't see was random chance! He completely believed that he was destined to win!

i will always say that Sideuis broke the rule of two completely with the way he killed Plagueis with poison, Bane was VERY clear about that with his apprentice. The Sith must use every trick in the book to beat the Jedi but the contest between the Master and Apprentice MUST be taken by force. You have to prove you can beat your Master to ensure that you are stronger so the Sith will always continue to grow stronger. Imo its why Sideous fails in the end

It was a good idea for Plagueis to have Palpatine make his own way in the Dark Side as a way to make the Sith Grand Plan work. What wasn't a good idea was not letting him at least learn more about them so he can learn from their mistakes. After all, as the saying goes "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

It was wise to keep Siddious from learning the ancient sith knowledge as it kept Siddious from making the very mistakes they made, which is why they failed consistently.

Sidious did violate the Rule of Two in taking Maul as an apprentice when he himself was still one. He would further bend the rules with his Inquisitors. Like any good politician, he played a game of semantics and held that they weren't "true" Sith.

Great video but Darth Plaugeis always intended to be the Sith Master with Sidious as his apprentice. He intended to give both immortality through the dark side of the force. Ultimately Sidious choose power over immortality by killing Plaugeis.

I think Plageus should have appeased Sidious's curiosity AS SOON as he became impatient and suspicious PRECISELY to avoid this tragedy. If I was plageus, I would've taken him to all those worlds and explained everything I knew to sidious instead of withholding precisely because I don't want to get killed from suspicion from my student. I want my student to trust me so in order to earn a student's trust, I explain to the student clearly and precisely WHAT my plan is, WHY my plan is designed the way it is, and WHY I believe the ancient sith's knowledge is insufficient break old sith habits to venture into new terrritory of immortality (as you explain here). This way, my student would get his little field trips and he would get my thorough explanations and thus he would have the context needed to understand why I do not focus my teachings on the ancient sith but rather on rising above ancient sith doctrine to blaze the new sith trail plageus focuses his life on. By the end of the apprenticeship, my student will understand ancient sith were superior fighters that never conquered the galaxy precisely because they didn't use their heads but rather their fists and sabers. My student will understand using fists and sabers is useful but using your head is more useful if you want immortality and financial stability as a sith emperor. My student will also understand that being alone as a sith is extremely dangerous nomatter if you are a president, chancellor, king, dictator or any other position of power and therefore it is fundamentally important to have a partner to protect your back which is my doctrine's interpretation of the Sith Rule of 2. My student will understand I will protect him if he protects me and together we can safely co-emperor the galaxy as immortals. With immortality, my student will have all the time he desires to learn fighting skills from the history of ancient siths to his heart's content if he desires. Plageus's sith doctrine focuses on immortality as a tool to provide the user infinite time to pursue other interests on your bucket list. That's it. That's plageus's doctrine. After achieving immortality, Sidious can pursue and learn anything else to his heart's content as he pleases while plageus happily safely rules the galaxy so long as they both watch each other's backs. That's the entire plan. Very easy to understand. Very easy to grasp. No withholding of knowledge, just prioritizing knowledge consumption to achieve the tool of immortality asap as a STARTING POINT.

Hearing what plagues said about the ancient sith and how that never conquered the galaxy, I wonder if he ever heard of Darth Vitiate.

In the end, a thousand years of machinations resulted in a half-rule of 20 years, and the return of the Jedi. So Plagueis kind of effed up selecting Palpatine.

Honestly, the only reason that the ancient Sith did not take over the Galaxy after the sacking of Coroscant is because the writters thought it would be too much of a retcon.

Plagueis hated the ancient sith because the Rule of Two was a terrible, non-sensical ret-con. Case closed
