BHVR is a very inconsistant company. They put out bangers like All Things Wicked or RE part 2 but then do stuff like this. It's like they fire and re-hire their entire staff every 4 months or so. It's so weird. Also, yes, retention is a huge problem. We need ranks, cosmetics, or SOMETHING else to work towards besides a battle pass or leveling characters to p100. Another meta shakeup is also needed.
yeah i got the game like a month ago and have no reason to push my characters past p1.. i’m slowly loosing interest in the game because there is nothing else to do and unlocking characters takes so long
meta shakeup is not really possible since exhaustion perks exist and they will always reign over , same goes for killer regression perks. only if they are fundamentally changed the meta can be shifted
Very well said. Literally the ONLY reasons they're able to get away with it is that 1, half the player-base knows so little they think grade = rank and 2, they have the Madden Effect (they hold licenses that prevent others from competing with them).
Identity v is dbd longest “competition” but only reason why it technically isn’t is cuz dbd is banned in China so Idv devs asked dbd if they could make a similar game and dbd sent over some code. It’s very different then dbd but it’s free and the way the game makes money is through skins so you don’t even have to buy characters (I’ll do a yap sesh on the main difference between the games if anyone cares lmao)
ur videos are always so entertaining and this one specifically speaks to so many of the feelings ive been having about this game, it really feels like theyre just trying to cash out before the game dies, theres no effort to improve the overall playing experience, every update brings a LAUGHABLE amount of unrelated bugs that take months to be fixed if theyre fixed at all, its truly pathetic how much this company never fails to disappoint
thank you so much for the compliment :,) and that’s the thing! i really don’t think this game is anywhere near “death” simply because of the licenses they hold. it’s baffling how they treat their game because it absolutely does feel like their priorities have never focused on satisfying the returning player. (especially considering this game is not free to play, but follows the f2p format? greedy greedy.)
There’s alot of things BHVR can implement into the game to not only bring in MORE new players but to also to keep their current player base happy, like their hours + grind is being seen. Sucks cause they know we aren’t going anywhere. Yes, we will leave for weeks or a month but we always come back to the crazy / wild things Dead by Daylight has to offer.
I think its biggest problem is lying and not knowing how small they are. If Behavior practically loses Dead by Daylight because of their greed, it’s not like they can turn back onto something else. If another company like EA loses one of their game’s popularity, they can just go to another. Behavior isn’t big enough to make such greedy risks. It’d make them more money to actually do what the community wants instead of what the shareholders want.
Your delivery is always so very concise. I appreciate that. It makes you very easy to listen to where my mind doesn't trail off. All that is to say you're doing a great job. I wish DBD would care more about their game and not just cosmetics. I don't even play Skull Merchant, but I got her skin from that blood event because it was her best skin imo and it had the vibe I'd want her to have if I were to play her, since I think her design is awful. The FOMO stuff is exhausting and I usually ignore it, but then some of the best cosmetic options are seemingly gone forever that I'd really want. I think my biggest issue with them is that they're the biggest Asymmetrical Horror game and yet the work they do on the game just feels like it's simply "enough" in their eyes. It can feel like we're getting breadcrumbed and gaslit into thinking it's more than what it is. I hope things change. Somehow, I find myself still excited for new releases for both killer and survivor.
Bhvr is the blizzard of asym. The majority of players who plays this game RARELY enjoys this game. There’s just no other game LIKE dbd, and the enormous amount of licensed characters in the game. THE game itself just isn’t good but the paid for cosmetics and licenses really helps keep this game float.
I found it funny when BHVR did a survey when players asked anything about improving, dealing with bugs, etc they give a vague answer but when it comes to cosmetics they are fast to answer with non vague answers.
I mean the 3 month chapters mindset alone shows their priorities, all the rep talk they make "this game is for the community above all" lets fix that lie... "Your our community but also don't forget your wallets", If they truly cared about DBD's long term health and the people in it's game not the money. There would be a break from all the chapters, replaced with fixes! As you have mentioned there would be no money there so of course it's the end of the world for BHVR if they even spent one month on such...
Its funny how BVHR is also nerfing/removing skill expression to cater to newer players but all this does is 1. ruin the game for veterans. 2. Strip away extra fun from the game and 3. Doesnt help newer players because they never even cared about skill expression at least where they are at this point. You wanna know what will HELP newer players? Free banners, badges and cosmetics for prestige, updating their tutorial to be more inlined with the game they have now, increasing bloodpoint gain to help players prestige faster (along with iri shards) getting rid of SBMM, etc. All of these will help in the long run but due to how time costly it will be to implement these features, meaning theyll lose money in thr short term, they'll much rather remove advanced features because its "easier" and "Time/cost effecient." Goes to show that BHVR really only do things of quality when it comes to money.
I dont understand how we can actually go and do awesome content like the billy rework then turn around and do something so abysmal like the initial twins rework like is this even the same dev team
I hope it backfire soon enough. But if the game will die because of this - it will be ok gor me. At least I got happy memories about 2v8 mode and some cool modifiers events, which Bhvr for some reason did not left in the game and just remove them.
I haven't actually checked so i don't know if they added them yet or not, but if i remember correctly they said we would get free banners/badges of every killer for having bought/owning them. As far as I'm aware... Despite the horrible state badges/banners were released in they STILL have not given us ANY of those promised badges/banners for owning the characters they belong to. I can understand maybe liscened stuff taking awhile because idk how it would work for them being licensed stuff. But original characters?... That's just embarrassing that we still don't have ANY for owning them. That and other stuff such as the no p100 rewards because "fomo" you mentioned feels like they've become so greedy that they flat out ignore base game stuff in favor of focusing on paid cosmetics.
It's kind of sad how Behavior's current handling of DBD is reflecting how Activision handles COD. Both heavily focus on microtransactions and don't really touch the gameplay too much, and what parts they do, often get overhyped and end up leaving everyone disappointed. At least there's a sliver lining with Treyarch (one of Activision's studios they own) still having great COD quality, but Behavior has no such saving grace, which is kind of sad.
yuppp if you go even bigger picture, big studios always said the reason they charge $60 is so they dont have to implement microtransactions for them to profit. in 2024, triple A titles are $70 with microtransactions. not to mention early access fees, subscription services (EOD and Fallout 1st lmao), and "new content" being paid cosmetics
Yk I was talking to people before Bhvr made prestige fomo tweet and told my idea on a P100 cosmetic and they all said “no this isn’t good cause we shouldn’t force people to P100 a character Then when the prestige fomo tweet happened those same people were saying “I CANT BELIEVE BHVR WONT DO PRESTIGE REWARDS THIS IS BS” and im like bro wtf
It is pretty weird that dbd adds all the new skin lines as content as if its something to get excited for, feng min gets a new skin, that will surely change up the meta. Making changes that feel completely unnecessary, that a very small percentage of people was complaining about and making the game miserable for new players, giving them barely any usable and fun perks without grinding for hundreds of hours or paying money. I feel like it needs to be talked about more how disingenuous it feels. And the fact the Were Elk skin is more expensive after they announced all the price changes is especially heinour, considering it does all the same things as the Naughty Bear skin.
There are so many little tweaks that BHVR can do to their game to keep their players coming in such as beginner perks new animations, new lines for original characters, new terror radius for old killers, bring back the horror aspect, so many things and I wish BHVR wasn’t money hungry because their game has so much potential
The trend of DBD is that it takes so long for them to put out content (which I don't blame them for in the slightest, I couldn't hold a candle to their development) that it makes the new content they released seemed stale. All Things Wicked was a massive success, but nowadays it's being treated as a new norm and there's nothing really keeping players going other than getting bloodpoints and leveling up a character. Also, notice how in their roadmaps, which serve as a schedule for what's to come, the majority of updates listed are COSMETIC RELEASES. You hit it on the mark, they have Steps 1 and 2 down to a tee but retention's being left to die.
Things that have stopped: - Graphical reworks of maps (some new ones are already old ones - Yamaoka, Badham, Hawkins) - Graphical reworks of survivors & killers - Unique terror radius music for old killers - Horror aspects because it was too scary, anything fog related (They don't even say see you in the fog anymore) - Unique mechanic (Visceral cancers, light burning, techs, map alterations with offerings, new items) - Fog whisperer program having any other meaning other than to show new skins
You can't change this. People were complaining about the same things 3 years ago and more, and the situation never changed. Because you're coming back anyway. You will play anyway. And you will continue giving money to them. BHVR will prioritize this untill their game drops dead, they don't care if it is balanced or fun to you. They had countless occasions to do things better and they never did. Sad to say but the best you can do for yourself is to quit the game for a better one.
What can Behavior do to fix this problem? They need to hire and actually consider people with knowledge and experience from the game. Instead of simultaneously working on skins skins skins and microtransactions, they need to sit down. They need to look at how lucky they have gotten to have such a good performing game that is extremely buggy and doesn't work. Focus on the bugs that are currently in the game, actually REDO AND FIX old mistakes whilst getting feedback from the people who know what the game needs most, the fans.
So who do you think should be able to dictate what the game needs? Because if you think streamers, you know, those people that are paid to sink hours of their time into and be exceptional at the game, are the ones that BHVR should listen to that'd honestly be hilarious
I have a little over 6k hours in the game, am on the longest break I've ever taken from it, and may well be permanently done. Time will tell. Anyone who knows the history of the game knows it was an unexpected success for BHVR, that far surpassed the original investment and development devoted to it. Eight years and many platforms later, BHVR still acts, if not surprised by the game's success, at least very confused, indecisive, and tone-deaf about what to do with the success, consistently ignoring feedback, making arbitrary changes, frustrating the player base with hollow promises and contradictions, and seemingly hell-bent on strangling the life out of a game that used to be fun, due to its dark, glitchy, suspenseful, goofy charm. Now, it just seems like an interactive PITA that has jabillion skins for all the various pains. Very disappointing. Excellent video; undeniable argument.
I started playing outlast trials (HIGHLY reccommend if you are tired of dbd), and I really like the system thats in the game regarding cosmetics. You unlock new cosmetics while playing and progressing, and buy them with currency you also get by progressing, so you actually feel like you EARNED them. (Of course you can buy some exclusive items additionally, but the majority of cosmetics is unlockable through playing)
Bruh. Bruuuuuh. People have bugged Behavior for options to silence the louder killers for years, and they sell their loudest ones silent skin for a premium? Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh. That's some utter Clown shit no matter what other DBD or BHVR opinions anybody may hold
I was so upset when they came out with the banners and icons update and had nothing to release with it. Like they could have put some perk icons or something.
As someone who used to play this game after the release of trickster I stopped playing for like 2 years after coming back. Got a ps5 everything was different more killers more survivors and more perks which at first it was cool seeing chucky in this game but after seeing a progression system still the same no ranked or quick match mode yet and not to mention the fact 90% of the time im farming bloodpoints to at least prestige my base killers once but even grinding one character is such a chore, irredecent shards r a pain 4500 shards for a killer u get 300 to shards for leveling up fml, bend the knee and took out my wallet for old hunters dlc, more grinding for strong teachable perks across these killers and only some cant even be purchased w irredecent shards since your forced to get cells lile chucky ghost face (which I get bc they're licensed characters) but seeing the game in this state makes it very difficult to maintain its fun when ur vastly behind everyone and someone who is not invested in the game will drop it immediately when there is huge progression system and mechanics a new player wont figure out or which character to purchase first.
i also think that this is something that could make the game lose its player base over the years, especially after the latest patch where everything is bugged. they are taking us for idiots, sadly
i do not understand their oversight by shipping a patch full of changes AND a new engine all at once. these should have been two separate patches completely so the bugs could be focused.
Nail on the head, their business model is atrocious towards their customers, but hey, that's our current economic environment: its about seeing how much you can mistreat your customer for profit instead of providing them a good product or service.
Man this guy called everything right, and even worst 10:00 when twins was being worked hard on, they never even bothered fixing her bugs, so she got reworked with the same bugs still happening to her.
I found myself getting bored of the game and tired of their practices but the p100 fomo remark really woke me up back when they first dropped that excuse, if they anymore of my money they're gonna need to change
The whole world feels like it's forgotten retention. So many companies are cutting quality of life in so many industries. A game releasing finished is a cause to celebrate now smh.
I'm not buying the skin myself but I feel bad for those baited into getting it because soon it will change. That makes me wonder if BHVR can beheld legally labially for something like this.
Every single time games do what DBD do, it backfires and DBD does not have anywhere near the popularity, player count nor goodwill for it to not heavily screw them over.
Honestly what i heard and this is a theory is just because of license characters like the devs would have to do legal stuff with the owners for the cosmetics to happen at least for licensed characters but the devs can still do it only just with the original characters like the license would have to come later like much later than the original characters and i wouldn't mind this as a p90 Cheryl main at least with waiting
this is all right-- but i havent seen anyone bring this up. when the banners were first introduced with the chucky paywalled one-- characters like quentin and freddy went from having no numbers, to a 2/2. It implies that the characters were meant to get a banner and player icon, but there hasn't been anything like that. And it ties in in terms of -- it won't make them money. People want game modes, but again, that wouldnt make them money..
Could you make a tier list of the chase songs created by the channel first Encounter assault it's very good it's worth it he made two videos one of all the chase songs and another of all the menu songs they are 2 hour videos but it's worth watching see starts with chase
Yes, BHVR is a horrible company due to their P2W tactics: I've been angry with them for along time. I don't give them $$$ anymore except the licensed chapters or otherwise I will be missing perks.
Another thing that will hurt the game in a long run is 60% kill rate they aim for every killer. I assume that's the reason why Twins were so horrendous. And a reason why they rework (and "rework") killers into simple and easy versions of them. And why they keep buffing Blight after they tried to nerf him. Not to mention that the whole 60% concept makes survivor gamplay feel miserable (because of hard to counter killers and all meta regression perks that pretty much everyone has), especially if you're not good. I wonder if that could be the reason why they have a problem with both retention and inability to hook new players - because technically majority of the players are survivors and if you make survivor gameplay feel bad or worse, they won't stick around. Also likely why majority of new skins are for survivors - because they try to make them stay for a little longer. Overall it feels like killer gameplay gets constantly simplified and polished (I won't say better, because easy to play killers that not feel rewarding are boring and that's pretty much all what they do recently - reworks and releases), while survivor gameplay gets stale, neglected and harder and they hide it behind cute skins.
Isnt this what Most businesses are doing? Profit over Quality? Overwatch and all of Blizzard. Ubisoft with Skull n Bones. And also FOMO is dumb as hell and shouldnt ever be used to make money, needs to be outlawed and abolished, Im just saying.
It's simply just live service games doing as they all do. They exist to give investors money. I've dropped all live service games and my life is better for it. Fomo garbage money grubbing should be called out as such. Their new console UI is made specifically to draw out them dollars. You take one look at dbd mobile and tell me we aren't heading there.
Honestly, I don't believe the Huntress skin was intentional pay2win. Because looking at all the obviously broken shit they pushed down in this update it feels more like they just didn't test anything before releasing this update.
