Nathan simply is a Linguistics genius. You can hear the love he has for Dead Space in every brilliantly written sentence. Time to play this masterpiece again!
For me, just the first one would fit on that description. That doesn't mean that I did't like the other 2, those are really good actualy, just not on the same level to me.
@@geminisundone No need for remake, the graphic still hold up just as good. Remaking them would no doubt unable to recapture the eerie atmosphere of the original, unless it was handled by the very same team that made them in the first place which is highly unlikely after Visceral Game was shut down.
Dead Space is one of the best horror game series ever made. Thinking about Dead Space brings back so many nostalgic memories of growing up and constantly playing dead space. Really great game.
Haha I've just commented pretty much the same. 46 here. Lifelong gamer ( since pong ) and musician. Dead space absolutely blew me away. A re-make alla Resident evil 2 would be fantastic. That said they are working on a new dead space game currently. My ps5 needs it :)
Honestly, EA published some bangers from 2007 - 2010: Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, The Saboteur, Battlefield Bad Company, Skate, Army of 2, Dante's Inferno
Nathan, you continue to amaze us with videos like this. That Francis Bacon reference in this context is just perfect. I love this channel because of the depth you all bring to the table when talking about games. Talking about art, literature, philosophy and influences that go way beyond the “normal gaming experience”.
I really need to get back and try to finish my hard core run of Dead Space 2. As long as Nathan keeps talking about Dead Space...it just keeps motivating me to try to finish DS2
Dead Space is one of my all-time favorites. Along with Killzone and Resistance, these are the games that got me into console gaming. I still play these games to this day. Really hope they get remastered or remade.
That's what I tell people who've never played the game. You've got the lighting of Doom 3, low & flickering. Plus all the ambient noise makes it harder to distinguish what's mechanical/expanding/contracting metal and what's necromorphs. Eventually you figure out the patterns, but at first you're ready to shoot at anything.
one of the few games I've played through at least 3 times (I think MGS1 is the only non fighting game that has that honour as well). Truly a masterpiece. Great video!
Just finished playing my 5th play through on hard. This time with headphones and full sound set and it was a completely new experience with the tension, horror and complete immersion. Timeless classic and ages like fine wine.
I specifically bought a PS3 in case of a second lockdown last year (Live in New Zealand) and d/l this game to keep me from going insane. Never happened and I now have all 3 on HDD. Best investment ever. Love this game and everything about it. Apparently not quite as much as Nathan though. That intense, ultra descriptive narrative flows more freely and is warmer than the buckets of blood splattered throughout the entire series.
Playing this through a gaming chair was next level. Feeling the vibrations of the plastma cutter through sounds if the sub woofer was something else. Great memories.
When you give people the creative freedom to make something they're passionate about, it's amazing how great the results can be. Oh, and Dead Space is great too!
Great video Nath, thanks for doing this! Was a delight watching you play some of this recently and speak with such passion about it then too. The "objective complete" sound will forever be one of my favourite in-game sound effects, it's glorious.
Best sci-fi series game. I plugged my old ps3 in and played through all 3 again a few years ago. They should remaster them or come out with a similar game for the ps5.
I absolutely love dead space I play one of the 3 every October. It was a game changer to me of originality and what atmosphere and sound and no hud could be and how immersive a video game could be. It has such a ritch mythology and foundation so to me there's nothing better than every October sitting back in a pitch black room in the middle of the night with the receiver cranked up playing dead space
Dead Space and Dead Space 2 will always be two of my favorite video games ever. I’ve played through the first 2 at least 15 times apiece. And watching this makes me want to play through them again.
I played and finished all Dead Space games many times on all difficulties, but Dead Space (1) around 25 times. I love this game sooo much. So atmospheric and beautifull masterpiece. Nathan, thanks for this video.
Great work Nath, I love this game as much as you do and your recent platinum run inspired me to finally finish my own after all these years. And this game truly does stand the test of time. Classic!.
I don’t know if you guys will see this, BUT I WANT MORE FRIDAY FEATURES (All the vids are amazing but Friday features are what got me into this channel)
Nath play Dead space 3 with me, I'm a few trophies away from the Plat but they're locked behind Co-op play -_- Yes, Dead space 3 is nowhere as great as the first 2 games but it's still good and it's still Dead Space. I need the trilogy of Plats!
I'm loving these videos where Nathan just talks about games he loves and why he loves them. In all these years I've never played Dead Space, I guess it's about time.
Great video, Nathan. I also think the art direction is what makes it so strong, they knew exactly what they were trying to depict. In terms of atmosphere, it's almost unmatched and while an action horror, survival horror games wish they had a setting as oppressive and well realized as the Ishimura. I wish it had less linear progression and more free roaming/unlocking areas.
I hadn't played them in years but I'm currently working my way through them again. Completed 1 like two weeks ago and now halfway through 2. Amazing games.
Another great installment. I missed my window on this title, but watching the gameplay coupled with Nath's wizardry of words has me convinced that I should have played it when I had the chance.
I'm literally replaying through DS1 right now... I used to know it by heart but have forgotten some of the jumpscares and scary moments so I'm loving it like it was the first time all over again!
Dead Space 2 was my first Platinum Trophy (I’m not someone who usually seeks out the satisfying ding of a Platinum Trophy), as I loved it so much. I played it first weirdly, before going back and playing the original. I love them both equally despite their differences, and they remain some of my favourites ever. Fantastic video Nath, thanks for reminding me how much I love Dead Space
I played it for the first time this past Halloween and I can’t believe I slept on it for so long. Easily one of the best survival horror game I’ve played
Dead Space is such a great game! I played all three games on PC and later bought it again for my PS3 just to have the Platinum for this on my record. Absolute fantastic game. Must be one of the most atmosperic games I've ever played and "Twinkle, twinkle little star" gives me chills up to this day every time I hear it!
Honestly such an incredible series overall. Haven't played 3 before but I've heard a lot of mixed opinions on it. Finished the first one a couple weeks ago now I'm working on 2, and damn the gameplay feels so satisfying in part 2. I wouldn't say it's as terrifying so far, but it might be because I've gotten acclimated. Sad that their studio got shut down, but here's to hoping Callisto Protocol is a proper spiritual successor :)
Man, Rob and Nathan are so eloquent in their writing it is so great to listen to him go on about a game I have absolutely no interest in. Well, at least not until now. Thank you Nathan for those amazing 17 minutes of pure extraordinary writing.
By far one of the greatest modern horror game franchises of all time! Hands down! The absolute atmosphere, world building, and character development are some of the best I've sever seen/experienced throughout any video game series. Visceral Games really went all out with Dead Space and i hope to god that one day we will get a remaster or continuation of this badass, horror masterpiece. This franchise changed EVERYTHING for the horror game genre.
This was one of the very few games I remember buying the day it got released and without any knowledge of what it was going to be like or anything. It was a total blind instinct buy and one of my favorite survival horror games I have in my collection
I loved all 3 games, which I thought were profoundly well balanced & paced, with the ultimate relatable protagonist. And, most important - they were FUN, and never felt like grinding work. We'll stated Nathan - as per your usual.
Dead Space's atmosphere is its strongest asset, and its exemplary UI design is its strongest feature. So much of the game is built off the back of the sense of mounting dread and the absence of moments of peace, and the UI reflects this - it's all in-game, and never pauses. You're not safe in the select menu, in the shop, or even while upgrading - and even though you're rarely attacked in these moments, it only needs to happen once to remind you. Having to do real-time inventory management is stressful, but the game manages to carefully moderate that stress by keeping the basic, essential information like ammo, health, and energy very cleanly visible. Even the transparency to the UI works - while technically you are safer because you can still see danger with the item menu open, you get deeply paranoid at every motion you see through it. The finishing touch is the objective tracker; instead of having the usual tepid objective compass and its simultaneous handholding and inadequacy, you can go your own way as you please, and get a direct, drawn line to the objective whenever you really do want help. It's telling of the confidence the team had in their vision that they added a special animation to the stomp attack for if you mash it for more than ten times in a row, knowing eventually people would panic enough for it to actually come up.
Dead Space is great. When I saw how the item menu worked, it was more than enough reason to get this game. Then the space sci-fi atmosphere inspired on Alien & other movies is amazing. It would be great to have a remake on current generation consoles.
This is easily my favourite video from Nathan. Also, I never knew it started as a prototype put together while they were working on Bond games. Hard to believe this is a 12 and a half year old game! It still has textures better than some modern day games!
Dead Space was the first game I played on the PS3 and remains one of my all time favourite games. I only hope that the reason we have not had a PS4 remaster is because we are destined to get a full on PS5 remaster utilising the hardwares full potential.
I love Dead Space, it was one of the first plats i obtained. Im so proud of the fact that my last two trophies were to complete the game on the hardest difficulty and complete the game only using the plasma cutter. Yes this was the game that taught me the lesson of always look up trophies to watch out for before starting a game that you know you want to platinum. It was either complete the game two times again or once.
This was a wonderful segment, Nath -- excellent work and insight into one of the best games of both the genre and generation, much like Rob's adoration for METAL GEAR! :D I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment about DEAD SPACE, and this should be a blueprint for how future titles should be approached.
I actually just played it for the first time a couple weeks ago. I know, I know I'm 13 years late. But even in 2021 and playing for the first time I thought it was AMAZING!
Absolutely spot on with the analysis. You can tell Nathan has so much love for this game. Dead space is probably the best horror game I've ever played. It had everything a horror game should have and more. Loved dead space 2 but unfortunately by the time 3 came along, it had lost its way. I would totally be on board for a dead space reboot if it is done right and stayed true to its core.
The first two were absolutely brilliant. Had you on edge all the time. Some might say the jumpscares were too many, I disagree. My first two platinums, I loved them so much. 3 was a swing and a miss, they got greedy.
The Dead Space games terrified me, heh. Even on co-op, but I still really enjoyed them. Be sure to keep an eye out for The Callisto Protocol - looks like it's as close as we're gonna get to another.
