My guess is that McDonald's will eventually go back to the kid-friendly restaurant design and advertising when they hit a rough patch. Whenever a corporation is struggling, once of the safest things to suggest is to do what's worked before.
There's no good reason to get rid of mascots. Companies think they need to rebrand to modernize things. That's why logos suck now too. It's not because of horror adaptations of Ronald McDonald, there's horror of everything now. You can't stop the internet from doing that. Likewise if the internet gets offended by those same mascots or were scared of them even without the horror parodies, that's their problem. I'm sick of the age of ironic hipsters.
i think we are all in the same boat mate, modernized/flat logos, restraunt designs, consoles and even malls and leisure centres is just sad. they have all truly ruined what we had wen young seeing it as improvements. whilst no one (at least that ive ever heard of) enjoys modern designs compared to ones of the past. its not like gen alpha like one over another when they know no better. shits sad
This could be the time to bring mascots back. Imagine mascots like the Pepsi Man or Ronald McDonald being playable in a games like Fortnite. Make these skins free for a limited time and you have nearly infinite advertising.
@@ExtraMintyy great vid dawg, i dropped a lil story on the discord. keep pushing, im not on the gram anymore so imma b active on the discord more often
Eh, fads come and go in cycles. I bet there'll be a return to mascots someday. For that matter, mascots never died in Japan, so all it would take is another Pepsiman style crossover hit, and they'll probably come back.
I have a HUGE obsession with mascots, and I'm a 2000s kid who grew up with the beginning of the end of mascots. Weirdly, most of my favorite mascots are actually before my time. The California Raisins, Domino's Pizza's The Noid, the 1970s version of Jack from Jack In The Box, PTT era Chuck E Cheese [I grew up with Avenger era Chuck but I prefer the PTT era Chuck E], 7-Up's Cool Spot, etc... What I find frustrating is that Jack In The Box absolutely refuses to ackowlege the 70s version of Jack and anything before the 1990s. Note that only three of the 70s JITB animated ads are on YT [I'm thankful we even have those]. Not even a single Funko Pop of any 70s JITB characters either. It really gets me because 70s era Jack and the other 70s Jack In The Box characters were voiced by Paul Winchell, OG voice of Tigger, so you'd think they'd at least have more of the ads on RU-vid. At least Mcdonaldland ads are plentiful.
You know, I think Pepsiman has really good potential to be brought back, however with the change of promoting the healthier alternatives of the brand such as Pepsi NEX. The design itself might have a debate on its timelessness, but I do believe it could fit with the modern times regardless of slight adjustments.
Keep posting more vids bro I love ur content it’s my comfort channel at night and when I’m driving to school at 5am when it’s still dark out your videos are such a vibe I’ve been looking for content like this for so long
clown sightings were fuckin terrifying. i remember my first year of high school (making me i think 11-12 at the time) seeing images of one infront of one of our local schools (the school my brother attends td) i shat myself lol
I never got into that stuff because it was so dumb. I never was afraid of clowns either. I still think it's stupid. Maybe it's a generational gap thing.
@@MacUser2-il2cx well i think as a child seeing it locally it shook me lmao, no shit now i wouldnt be too bothered but back then i found it scary ash lol
I can contribute with a bunch of Czech mascots I found on current local advertisement. I can name two examples: 1) A local bank company called ČSOB (also operates in neighboring Slovakia) introduced a new mascot in February 2021, in the form of a talking blue chameleon (which doesn't even have a name) that exhibited a curious personality. Some of you might consider him a "cousin" of sorts to the Geico gecko, and you might be right. Recently, there was another mascot in the building savings division of ČSOB, which was an anthropomorphic fox. He was replaced by the chameleon. The chameleon also took over the insurance division. 2) Sazka, a local lottery company actually has three mascots. Two of them are for a mobile casino app and they are a sentient red deck of cards and a similarly sentient green chip stack. Just add eyes and simple rubberhose arms. The third mascot was for a SIM card tariff and it was represented... by a talking yellow SIM card with arms and legs. There is one more mascot pair I remember, but that is instead two characters from an old cartoon being licensed to be used in advertisement, so they don't count that much.
They didnt cause the death of the mascot trend, but theyve tainted the concept. The Tony the Tiger incident certainly wont help mascots make a comeback. Thanks, degenerates!
Because corporations like to believe they've become too mature and sophisticated for that kind of thing, but actually it takes more imagination to come up with an appealing, unique, recognizable mascot than today's geniuses are capable of.
Very much agreed. And on top of that, who actually feels any kinship to such self-seriousness? People wanna have fun and need that sort of lightness probably nowadays more than ever.
God, I know it’s been done a lot in RU-vid videos. But nothing was more depressing than watching the McDonald’s go from bright and sunny to borg cube in a flash. I hate this perception that to be old or mature, you have to hate colorful things. I don’t necessarily think we need to make everything a nostalgic experience, like it can’t just be the 2000’s again, but I wish we could at least bring back bright colors and fun creative ideas.
I wish mascots would come back so we can stop with the crappy Fiverr ads starring literal whos filmed in their car or a severely echo-y kitchen. We currently live in the worst era of advertising imaginable.
I kinda don't like Ads, not the ones of today at all, but i have to say that if Ads returned to a time where they had interesting mascots, backstories, etc, they would probably be more appealing or watchable over the current landscape of ads, that just want to cause brainrot, OVER VIDEOS THAT CAUSE BRAINROT, without having anything watchable passable. Like idk, 100 videos on some mascot doing things, and the ad you get is some sort of randomized pull where you get legendary scenes with the mascot, or trashy and annoying (yet funny) low tier scenes that can be memes. People forget that adds are supposed to at least sell the idea of a life with that product, and that life with the product is what makes it a desirable thing, at least, a WATCHABLE and ENGAGING desire, not just "buy buy buy", annoying ringtones, or the same ad, that sorry, i don't engage with it at all. I realize now that if RU-vid is going to serve the same ad from the same company, at least they should make these ads themselves interesting, not just repeating info nonsense. And an actual job for creative people to actually have fun with mascots and stuff (Ai will -probably- not work on this.) But idk. I hate minimalism, return me to a world where i can gaze a beautiful landscape that actually makes me feel like i want to buy something and be calm about it, that there is peace on the world and everything is beautiful and full of coulor, instead of being annoyed and even threatened to do so and being in a minimalist thing where everything is dull and my brain goes crazy trying to fill this void that never gets filled. Please.
I didn't try the Grimace milkshake at McDonald's in 2023, which I regret now. There is a kit kat Mcflurry special right now, but it's not the same. I tried to get the McDonald's collectors cups twice (once in store and once by delivery) and failed so that might be another sad moment. I gave the goodwill here some authentic McDonald's toys from the 80's that were mine when i was a child here and then there were some cool adult meals with collectibles but I didn't try to get those.
