Why Did Catnap Never Kill Us In Chapter 3? 

Compared to Huggy or Mommy, Catnap is actually very tactical and smart instead of killing the final ms delight and the little critters (which he could have) he instead made deals with them where they would report to him and in exchange he would give them protection and food heck even with the player he allowed the chance to leave when once again he could have easily killed them. So yeah as long as you follow his rules and God and not be a “heretic” you’ll likely be safe.

CatNap is being a feline. Those instincts are strong as hell. Cats will let prey go and go after it again and again. Once the prey can't run or fight anymore, the cat decides the game is over and ends it. Just like Ollie said.

I think I have a solid answer for this (*TLDR at the bottom*). It's been hinted that the children were never killed, but rather hidden away after the Hour of Joy. The question is where? Well they needed to be put somewhere secure, and what area is connected to Playcare, protected by a vault, covered in the Red Smoke, guarded by the Prototype's most loyal follower, and home of the Prototype himself? The laboratory. We now have established where, but why would they be put down there? The answer is quite simple, it was to protect them from the massacre, obviously, but then we run into a problem, why keep them there? It seems to be a bit more complicated. Let's look at Ms. Delight first, she killed and cannibalized the other teachers and is said to have a "hunger," one she cannot control. After being released from the schoolhouse, she said that Cat Nap probably kept her in there so that she and the other teachers wouldn't eat the kids. We can tell that before the hour of joy there were MANY more living toys, such as the rest of the Smiling Critters and many more smaller toys strewn about the factory (they were most likely alive as they have blood near them). We can assume that every toy had this uncontrollable hunger, a hunger strong enough to force them to cannibalize one another. If the Prototype decided to let the kids out immediately after the Hour of Joy, the more numerous toys could not have resisted that hunger and would have attacked and killed the kids. The Prototype freed the children from Playtime only to trap them all over again. He had to wait for the toys to kill each other so he could set the children free without threat. He had Cat Nap trap the teachers in the school house to whittle down their numbers, create a cult and keep them fed so they wouldn't go looking for the children, and at the same time whittle down the numbers of those toys (such as Dog Day) by calling them "heretics" and eating the bigger ones, keeping the smaller ones content and killing the bigger threats. But it's too slow, the children are running our of food. They haven't even killed all the toys in Playcare. So they had to get creative, they sent the player and undoubtedly other former employees letters telling them to come back (there's no way Poppy herself sent a letter from a glass box). They come back, they die at the start, until we arrive. We kill Huggy, we kill Mommy, and soon arrive at Playcare and kill Ms. Delight, Dog Day, and Cat Nap (sort of). We're speeding up the Prototype's plan, killing other toys and making himself strong enough to protect the other children by taking other toy's parts. He doesn't kill us because he WANTS us to find him. Cat Nap didn't kill us because he was under orders not to, he only wanted to test us. When we beat him, Cat Nap had no more reason to live, so he sacrificed himself to give more power to the Prototype and take out another threat that might attack the kids *TLDR* We weren't killed because the Prototype needed us to kill the bigger toys to make it safe for the kids to leave, as well as make him stronger so he could protect the kids

Tbh Catnap standing up like that made me first believe he offered himself up because he failed. Like a plea. Also I’m not quite sure if this is inherently true but I thought The Prototype could telepathically speak to things

There has been an idea floating around that CatNap actually talks to you in the dreams, most notably the backwards radio in the first dream and Poppy's voice in the second dream. If this truly is the case, and going by what the voices say, then another reason CatNap doesn't just kill us is because he's curious. Sure, he likely recognizes us as one of the employees who were aware of the experiments, as evident in the radio voice showing disgust in our actions, but he also wants to know why the Player chose to come back, despite the lack of obvious incentive to do so. Maybe he wants to know what we're gonna do at this point, or he perhaps thinks we feel guilt for our actions. After all, he hasn't labeled us as a proper "heretic". Hence, he chose to just keep a close eye on us throughout the chapter, testing us to see what might happen while at the same time causing the occasional roadblock to prevent us just blitzing straight to the Prototype. Since his voice box probably isn't in a good state to talk for long periods of time, he uses the dreams as a catalyst to communicate his questions and thoughts to us. On a related note, I feel as though Huggy Wuggy was simply waiting for the right opportunity to corner us. If you pay attention to most of Chapter 1's map layout, there are plenty of routes that lead straight back out to the entrance in some way. By the time we make it to the Make-a-Friend room, he finally attacks since we have no way out. In fact, the only reason we escape is because a vent door opened for some reason (probably the Prototype's doing), taking Huggy by surprise and forcing him to pursue us in full.

Nah... CatNap is a cat-based entity. Cats love to play with their prey. ever seen what cats do with birds and mice they have caught? yeah, they play with them and let them escape over and over again. the reason? their hunting urge ain't satisfied yet.

Poppy Playtime does have a lot of creepy lore…

I think it was to make the journey more traumatic for us, he was stalking us because it would strike fear and paranoia into us, as for why the Prototype killed him, I think the prototype is using us, not to get himself more powerful though. Poppy and the Prototype obviously know what we (the player) are capable of, and the Prototype is using us to free the souls of the kids, they wanted freedom, and he's using us to give them freedom, to free their tortured souls.

Two things: 1. He already gave us a chance to leave Playcare before he comes for us which he did 2. He lives for the hunt Prototype probably wanted to get rid of us that’s why he allows Mommy to give us keys to let us escape but then Poppy crashes the train and prevents us from leaving Playcare

I believe that catnap let us live to simply get the prototype angry. I’d he wants freedom the only way I see out is death. So I believe that catnap intentionally let us survive so the prototype would end his life, finally letting him rest after all the suffering he’s experienced.

It's a valid argument, but it's because he had you let you live. The prototype wanted you or the player to deal with the others

Here is my theory, well in chapter 3, Ollie said “Catnap lives for the hunt.” So that’s why catnap kept us alive and just watching us first. Even when we were passed out, in the start of chapter 3, he could have killed us right away, but the chapter would be too short. Even we were passed out in home sweet home, he could have killed us. This was my theory.

Hey, someone needed to get rid of Ms. Delight. Using the player to eliminate one of the problematic toys would be a good strategy from both Catnap and The Prototype. Also, she could have killed you too. It was a win win situation for 1006.

I believe that Prototype wants our body. Similar to Ennard from FNAF-SL, Prototype can't escape in his current state and appearance. but with our body as a disguise he could. that's why he wants us alive.

I have a few theories as to why Catnap did not kill us. 1. He was too lazy to attack us at first. 2. Catnap wanted the hunt to last longer so he didn’t kill us immediately 3. Do you want us to survive without he’s god knowing about it because he also believes we are the saviors who can end this chaos. Catnap is kinda a good guy deep down. He just can’t show it because of his God. (The Prototype) there’s always gotten everybody. We just got to believe.

Theory: i remember watching a video revealing who Ollie really is, basically it had the same arm but different body than the prototype statue we see in ch3. So, my theory is: the "prototype" who killed catnap wasn't actually the prototype himself, but Ollie. Think about it, Ollie knows absolutely everything about playtime co. He could easily find out where the player was and help him at the last minute by pretending to be the prototype and luring catnap into his death.

To me, I think catnap would be betrayed by the prototype. Catnap looks up to the prototype as his god, So that would make the prtotype seem more powerful with the followers thingy. And when Catnap found the player from the train crash, The prototype probably ordered catnap to find a soft and painful death for them, but catnap gave them the garbage disposal which still gave them time to escape. And catnap followed us all around playcare like what huggy did in the factory. When catnap died though, I think he was either giving himself up because he knew he failed, or he was giving himself up for us because he still had his childhood self in him. And I also think that catnaps death could be just a hallucination because before the catnap boss fight, he put them to sleep with his red gas. and it was probably like the nightmare huggy situation. Thats just my theory.

I believe the prototype didn't want Catnap to kill the player right away is because they needed him to unlock the doors that the player did for Ollie so the areas the prototype couldn't go into they used the player to open more doors for them so by the end the prototype told catnap to kill the player he didn't need him anymore and that's my theory on that. also, I have another theory that never came up so I'll be the first to say this lol what if project playtime is really the hour of joy what do ya think about that?

When the Prototype reveals itself, Catnap most certainly does seem to back away in fear, before offing himself to it. But I will always feel the need to love cat characters, so I'll imagine numerous ways Catnap might not be the villain he was depicted as.

Hey, i have a theory. That prototype kept everyone in the factory for these many years because he wanted to kill them. Prototype does not allow toys to go out of factory because he know the government would experiment on them and can use them for their good. Prototype is good, and if he will go on a kill spree, someone or many might have a chance to run out of factory. But if the factory collapses, small toys would not have Chance to survive the collapse. Here comes another theory, why he called us. To kill the bigger bodies that can survive the collapse of factory . Poppy for her life wants to kill him and want to stay, and she is manipulating us

Maybe catnap doesn't kill us due to prototype's orders. Or maybe because he is curious why the player has returned to factory even we were aware of the dangerous and threats inside of the toy's factory. This curiosity can be seen by the messages he write throughout the game, such as "why have you returned?", "returned was a mistake", "why have you returned?" All the same. He even gave us a verbal warning to leave.

Sense the prototype has the ability to mimic voices, I have a theory that Ollie may be the prototype. Ollie talks in a suspicious way. Almost like an ai or robot is mimicking a child. Sense the prototype kills Catnap right in front of us, that leads me to thinking that he is Ollie. Ollie also leads us to the exact places that we need to go. I dont know why people aren't realising that the entire time he was putting us in a deep sleep which allowed our subconscious to then reveal all of our past transgressions. We abandoned them at their most vulnerable. I almost bet that the train was suppose to continue moving forward we weren't there to make sure it didn't stop. We were the out and without us to operate the train they moved on to plan B and we are to blame for the slaughter.

I feel like the backstory of theo is that he got electrecuted with the grab pack, then the prototype helped him, when Theo turned into CatNap, he still worshipped the prototype as a savior, a god. At the end of the chapter, CatNap got electrecuted by the grab pack again, expecting help from the prototype, he raises himself, but the Prototype kills him, for not doing his job to kill us.

I disagree. Although this is a smart theory, I have a different answer for the prototype not wanting to kill us. The prototype doesn’t have the body needed to kill more toys and become stronger. He wants us (the player) to kill more toys so he can collect the body parts left.

Theory: Catnap acts like a predator, more or less like an ambush and oportunist, predators will often observe prey before pouncing, to know how it behaves to better trap it, that's why he didn't attack

This was posted a bit ago, but im still responding Cats are infact used to stalking prey, but as you said he got electrocuted trying to escape, which the prototype convinced him to do, which means he cant forget that, especially at the end when we electrocuted him again. And he was going to kill us there, as cats do after stalking prey, but he still has some humanity, he may be in a bigger body but everyone has humanity, even if they turn Psycho. Everyone will always have little buts of humanity so he was listening to the prototype and to his humanity, but he knew when he failed the prototype at the end, he knows what happens when you fail the prototype, so he gave himself up like that. The reason CatNap didn’t kill the player immediately is because he wants them to suffer. A part of CatNap’s character, is that he lives for the hunt and he loves making his victims suffer. That’s why he cut DogDay in half and left him strapped to a wall to slowly bleed out. Since the player is a former employee CatNap probably blames them for everything that happened so he almost definitely wants them to suffer slowly and relishing their deaths.

It would make sense if catnap verbally told us to leave, Because catnap sall chance of saving you while its not to late, but as we continued going forward in the game. Catnap being as loyal as he is to the prototype, He wouldn't have a chance because we were to far into the game and had to try to hunt and lure us before the prototype noticed catnaps true feelings and how he felt, So catnap continued what the prototype wanted into begin with.. and to how it got this way the prototype sall potential in catnap, Because at the time catnap was outcasted from the smiling critters for being different from the other smiling critters with Theodore Grambell being fused in within catnap. which means the prototype basically manipulated a child into preventing anyone from escaping, so that the prototype can power himself more without anyone stopping him by having catnap kill off the smiling critters so that he can trap dogday because he is the heroic type and catnap knows that dogday would interfere with the prototype's plan. and for miss delight she's just hungry and there was no food after the hour of joy and any food remaining her sisters hid food so she resorted them as for food and everyone she comes across to so that's why she's evil, she couldn't of resorted to going outside the school and catnap never go's to the general area of the school anyway that's what id believe in.

i feel like this makes the prototype more sinister, there was so many chances that he couldve easily killed us but instead uses catnap to toy with us. though we dont know its full intention ( i believe we shouldnt be trusting poppy either) all of the prototypes moves are culculated and well thought out. also, im pretty sure the player was heavily involved with everything as most of the toys KNEW he was an employee. (basically unforgettable. either that or they hv rlly good memories) i dont think the player was innocent but i do feel he is guilty (why else would u be gg back to the place you knew had violent toys) this makes the ending more interesting because the player could either lose and get what he deserves or win, making things right again ( tho i dont think there are anything else to make right as most of the surviving toys are 💀 )

I think CatNap had multiple strategies to kill the player, so he thought the trash compactor would work, and if it didn’t he would pull off his next move. But if his final plan wasn’t the right move, the prototype would know exactly where to find CatNap.

Aight here me out, an idea came to my head. So what if the player HAD a connection between Poppy and the Prototype? Like at first he had empathized with the Prototype so he was involved in "The Hour of Joy"(which explains the reversed radio voice lines), I think his part was to set them all free from the factory. And some time between those days of planning and talking with the Prototype, he met Poppy. A pacifist toy that only wants to be free but for some reason the evil employees of Playtime Co. just keeps her in a case. Perhaps the player never discussed about Poppy regarding The Hour of Joy (because she has still had to define that moment to the player before playing the tape, without her knowing that the player WAS supposed to be involved that time) and somehow talking to her has shaken the player's conscience, her peaceful demeanor and her will to be free from the shackles of Playtime Co. without violence was enough for the player to be conflicted on his decisions and be absent on that day that The Hour of Joy occured. Because of the Player's attachment with Poppy, the player had to back out because when they realized the plan regarding The Hour of Joy was about their freedom by killing all employees, he had a lot on his plate. Probably fear of death, or their conscience kicked in where they realized that they just made a big mistake because he thought he could get them all out without killing anyone. With all these in mind, I think it would all make sense as to why the big toys are attacking the player. Not just because he's a former employee, but also because he had an important role to fill in The Hour of Joy yet they didn't show up. Hence the voicelines or writings that emphasizes on his "guilt" or "why has he come back" and also those writings on the walls and floors that says "Guilt Haunts You", as if they had a bone to pick with the player because of his absence that Day. Maybe the player only went back because he wants to save Poppy by opening the case and getting her out, but the plan has changed and he decides to help Poppy and Co. to take revenge on the Prototype and end this. And since the player realizes he had potential on eliminating the big ones like Huggy and Mommy (and now CatNap), he decides to go deeper and help Poppy. Now that he's seen the footage of the player's coworkers getting slaughtered, now he's in to also avenge his coworkers. And about DogDay. It would make sense as to why he recognized the player and called him "Poppy's Angel". Not because CatNap or anyone has told him, but he already knew the player before. Perhaps he called the Player "Poppy's Angel" not only because he opened the case, but because he already knew the Player and planned to help Poppy and the other toys that sided with Poppy after being persuaded by her, which caused the player to change sides from the Prototype's side to Poppy's. So when the Player switched sides they probably had some other toys to side with him for a plan to help and save Poppy. One of them is DogDay. It also makes sense because DogDay told us about saving others too but there's nothing left to save, not even him. I'm having a feeling Poppy isn't really bad. If Mob Entertainment themselves made a CatNap music video where Poppy looks like she's concerned, saddened but helpless, then I'm convinced that they're hinting it in that music video. No reason for them to make Poppy look like helpless in a music video then suddenly they give us an all powerful evil Poppy outta nowhere since I think their purpose is to give hints for lore. I mean, CG5 already made a music video with their own animation right? They should've just made that the official music video than making one themselves. I think the music video's a fanservice for the game's theorists.

My theory is that i think catnap didn’t attack us till the end since he wanted to have a bit of fun with his prey, after all, he IS a cat, and since cats like to play with their prey, he was probably trying to make us tired enough to try and kill us, hence his lavender scent and that cats love to tire their own prey only to be killed shortly after. he could also just be having a bit of fun with us since he hasn’t had anyone to kill or toy with for a VERY long time, and then at the end he got tired of it and decided to kill us, or……the prototype decided to tell catnap not to kill us since he wants us to see the horrors of playtime co. And what happened after the hour of joy just to show the player what they missed out on…BUT THATS JUST A THEORY, A GAAAAME THEORY!

I just got a theory about the Prototype. We know he is the lead guy at the factory, right? And afaik he didn't have bad intentions, but once he died (and was turned into the prototype?) the other employees and people that worked there started working with larger subjects and doing bad things. So maybe the Prototype has been trying to kill off all the employees so that they stop making new toys and stop all this evil stuff that the original guy never wanted to happen! He might then also want the toys themselves, the products of the evil employee people, to be gone as well. Then again, don't the toys lose their memories and previous motives and stuff when they're turned into toys? So idk. But this is basically my first theory like ever, so have fun y'all.

I got two theories swirling around in my head.First one:the prototype was a bit feeble and couldn't pull itself together,but the moment the player showed up,it took an interest in us.Now,the second version might be a mix of truth and fibs.Here's my take:When we bite the dust,we see those words like "it's too early for you to die,get up,"and I'm hinting that maybe the player himself was there on the day the Joy Hour started,and he volunteered to turn himself into a monster.They made him into that faceless yellow dude we saw on the tape,and the only reason we saw the tape was 'cause he kicked the bucket in that room,or maybe it was that same Ludwig guy.Who knows,right?So,here's the kicker:Why did he keep coming back?It might sound weird,but chances are,the player's body is like a magnetic building set,you know,where the magnetic pieces stick together.And that's probably why the prototype ain't laying a finger on us,cause we're like this special piece for his full recovery,or maybe even for breaking free from this factory to cause some fresh evil out there.And mark my words, I wouldn't be surprised if Poppy Playtime serves up two endings in the final chapter.First one: we take him down and it's all good.But the second one?The prototype breaks loose and starts a bloody rampage,just like in the Terminator movies.Hope you enjoyed my commentary! :)
