It's kinda crazy how iconic overwatch characters are. Very unique personalities and all look COMPLETELY different. These characters do not look appealing or unique at all. When you see an overwatch character you think to yourself "woah what does this one do?" meanwhile seeing concord's characters you're like "uhh... what is this one even supposed to be?"

this game beats apex in making the most unappealing roster. and if apex is just generally tasteless, concord's looks like developers were afraid of making a character attractive.

The problem is that these character dont have any concept or any power fantasy behind them Overwatch have cyborg ninjas, robot monks, smurfette sniper, time traveler, futuristic cowboys, Australians Concord have a bunch of "diverse" people in colorful clothings... and it's not like being "diverse" is bad, it's just that being "diverse" isnt ENOUGH. Take the big tank minigun big bertha lady for example, her whole idea seem to be revolve about being a tank, Then why not dial that up to 11 and make her an absolute walking fortress ? make her armor metalic, with hard edges and cybernetics looking parts, give her an intimidating helmet/headpiece instead of showing her face beigging the enemy to shoot at. Seriously if a character have wearing a cool armored mechsuit, people will like it, regardless of if it's a woman a man or a chihuahua piloting it. but why WHY THE FUCK IS EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME TEAL

Like, it shows that you can make Asian-themed characters without just giving them monolid eyes, lmao. Really disappointed in Concord. Watched the 'plan' trailer where it looked like they tried and failed the same mission dozens of times. Thought it was going to be a comedic Vermintide type game with lots of ways for the missions to go awry.

They researched the character design from walmart. I think this might even be better premise. You pick up weapons like ketchup bottles, soy sauce, slingshot with pistachio in a supermarket arena. You combined the mechanic with dustborn. Choose your own weakness. Double damage by nuts, by words, emotional damage.

Along the same dialogue with designs being terrible look at one and ask yourself "what is this persons ROLE in the game?". Outside the "anchors" or tanks since they're huge. Would you assume the multicolored super vibrant black lady is actually a stealth assassin? Of course not. Theres no coherency in design to gameplay. They just made garbage that I could only assume was for diversity points and nothing else. Like the Yellow Trash Can robot. His whole schtick is vaccum power blocking and sucking up projectiles. Why not give him a giant Exhaust port on his chest to maybe signify this in ANY way or something similar. Could one guess that the plus sized blueberry is actually a support? I sure as hell couldnt without playing the Beta.

Concord: 10 years too late, genuinely unappealing character design, and 40 dollars above its rational price point.

About "Men generally prefer to play men", that's really not true, men are very divided between playing male and female characters; I for one always gravitate towards female characters If you look at games like Honkai Impact 3rd, the audience of that game is mostly men and they threatened the devs for entertaining the idea of adding playable male characters to the game The "I play female characters because small hitbox" and "I play female characters because the character I play is the one I see the entire time, and I prefer to look at women" narratives are extremely prevalent in gaming. LIkewise, muscular attractive male characters do entice gay men and straight women, it's already tested to exhaustion in games like League, Overwatch, Genshin Impact, Valorant; Everyone and their moms want to be attracted to the characters in a game, if you make character-based game with a roster full of unattractive characters your game is worthless

Here's an idea for Sony: Take the core Concord gameplay mechanics, get rid of the awful characters, and make a brand new game with all the PlayStation universe characters in it. Ratchet and Sora fighting Kratos and Solid Snake in a hero shooter would be a million times more fun than whatever the fuck this was. And can also cost way less than Concord.

I wish I could get a 100 million dollars. Lord knows I wouldn't blow it on a game no one likes. I'm so tired of big AAA titles flopping harder than a fish on a deck in July.

Spelunky wasn’t an arcade game. It was an Xbox Arcade game, at least the 2012 remake of the original PC game was. But the original game isn’t that old, came out in 2008; came out at the end of 2008 too, so the game is still only 15 years old at the moment as opposed to having been out for over 34 years. Maybe your dad was thinking of the arcade version of Pitfall 2, which came out in ‘85.

Spelunky was never an arcade game, that was Spelunker, which was a big hit back then, and got ported to some 8-bit systems and computers. The Spelunky game has no relationship to it other than being about... spelunking.

Even if they had good characters, the price tag alone would have driven most prospective players away. Why pay $40 for another bland, uninspired Overwatch clone when there are cheaper and better alternatives? Not to mention how oversaturated the FPS genre is already. I didn't even know about this game, and it's dead already. Devs really should take a second to remind themselves of the meaning of hubris. Games become iconic organically, and often for very different reasons. The games industries history is littered with overhyped failures. I was just watching a video on one such failed uber game from my youth, The Great Space Race on the Spectrum. It even came out round the same time as the much more beloved OG Elite. Which just ripped away any remaining tatters of hype/cred. I think the budget was £250.000 back in the 80s, crazy money for a video game at the time. Yes, I still have my copy somewhere gathering dust as a reminder not to listen to hype, and give it a bit before you buy.

I got a bit of a different opinion. I think the game largely failed because of pricing. It's a typical "buy our skins" kinda game. It's not a 40 dollar title. Also the user base for these games is low in general. The game would have to be exceptional for people to even consider spending 40 on it. The bland corporate characters won't cut it either. Pronouns and all that shit were likely just "let's modern audience it" My own little fantasy for concord is that they gave out 700 free codes to people.

Blizzard with all its big and mightiness released overwatch 20 euros when it was something completely new and refreshing and truly fun.
