I commented on an earlier video espousing more or less the same sentiment and interpretation. This story will always be my favourite in The Torah, because of it's 'esoteric nature'. This in my estimation was 'carefully crafted' to teach us that there's often a 'deeper, more 'profound' Truth that lies below the 'superficial'. Blessings to Rabbi Friedman! He is a gift... I'll never tire of listening to him. Shabbat Shalom.

The way Rabbi interpret things are so manipulated way. He creates the story saying the souls of Adam and Eve were there in the heavens and sent to the earth with a mission to make the world perfect. So much misguiding and it is far away from the Bible and Torah. When God created the earth, it was perfect for dwelling. But it became curse when Adam and Eve sinned. But Rabbi is saying that there was no sin. He is too much away from the truth.

Ali and you gave me all the best in the worldThank you for always being with me.Thank you, King of Kings, also for all the things I do not have, thank you that it is difficult for me sometimes, because everything is in my favor, and even if I did not always see it in my favor, in a second and deep thought I learned and know that everything comes from you Father Sovereign - is the good thing for me , And it was made especially for me, for my benefit in the most perfect way possible. And for that too I say thank you, thank you and thank you Lord of the Worlds.Thank you, thank you and thank you also for all the times you helped and I could not say thank you.Creator of the world, I ask you for forgiveness from the bottom of my heart if there were times I did not appreciate what you gave me and instead of saying thank you I just complained.King of Kings Kings Please do not depart from the people of Israel and from me forever, for only you can do wonders for the people of Israel soon in our day Amen.I wish you wholeheartedly, success in life, happiness, health and longevity

Thank you Rabbi for this video. I have always been so curious about the Adam and Eve and Tree of knowledge story as there were so may details that didn't make sense to me in the traditional way it's taught. For example, why would G-d "punish" Adam and Eve, or restrict them from knowledge or the pursuit of it. I also saw the longer videos that explains things a little more in depth. It really was enlightening. Thank you again!! Also, I think its nice that you decided to make these shorter videos because some people don't have the time or attention span to sit through a longer one. I see the trade of however, there are some that don't understand it. But over all I think it's great. I have shared a few of them.
@Chris_Sheridan
@Chris_Sheridan 3 года назад
Adam + Eve were punished for their disobedience - they did not gain any beneficial knowledge. Eve allowed her own desire to take something that did not belong to her - Adam followed by listening to his wife instead of trusting in God - they both sinned. God had given them free will - failure to keep God's law results in death. Adam was responsible for introducing sin and death to humankind - Romans 5:12 It was God's purpose that humans live forever on a paradise earth, however, it comes with the recognition of God's sovereignty - His right to rule and determine what is right and what is wrong. The Creator has every right to demand obedience from his creation - Adam + Eve were created perfect - they had full capability of understanding God's requirements, yet they lacked appreciation and wanted more. God had given them a perfect start - they were not starving and God did not tempt them - he allowed them a simple test of obedience. Sin brings death - the first human couple were punished with death - they deteriorated and died over hundreds of years - they did not die instantly - they did not go to heaven - they returned to the dust of the ground from which they had been taken. However, those who were born from Adam + Eve have the hope of the ransom - something that this 'pastor' has failed to acknowledge.

@@Chris_Sheridan The Bible in Amos 3 says the G-d creates the wicked to do evil. In Exodus, the Bible says the G-d hardened Pharaoh's heart to do worse evil and to show his power in it. The Bible says it is God who shakes the land and pours the water of the seas over the land. Tsunamis are from the G-d. The Bible says the G-d creates all things in the cosmos, including sin. You being an obvious Christian, know full well to fear God who can put your body and soul into death or (hell) or as your Bible says hades the the Greek god of the underworld.

@ysiegel
@ysiegel 3 года назад
I actually would like to deepen your question: Later on, when the Jews speak lashon harah, harshly in the desert, they suffer from a plague of poisonous snakes, the remedy to which is for Moses to make an image of a serpent on top of a tall stick and for all smitten to gaze at it.... And commentators explain that the serpent is because of the original snake who deceived Eve with words. So if it was deception and not "simply telling the truth" then....

I liked the insight. There's more going on here then just what we expect. I always interpreted that tree as the tree of Knowledge. Which can be seen as good and evil. But look where it took us. Yes, God allows us suffering in order to grow closer or fall away to him. So the tree of Knowledge has. The use of Knowledge has been abused and now we no longer have simple times. Never enough. Needing to know more has lead to Rome. The removal of boundaries, self indulgence, with no remorse. I dont think I remember the last time someone has acknowledged how they've harmed someone, any one. I don't mean always self blaming, but giving each other the respect of validation. Its all more important to deny and continue life without taking into retrospect. The pebble in the pond with the ripples. To the sins of the father. The tree is part of the spiritual development. Its the discernment we has lost and lack with the fragmenting of family and community. We are living that spiritual hell because we never set those boundaries nor enforced them. We became me. And we cant. I feel aweful that a WORLD has lost sight to the most perfect and most vulnerable. Our children. We just let this continue. Then, we have zero, ZERO, right to complain for whatever comes next.

Much like with us today..... He gives us the choice, "are we willing"?.... Die to yourself, so that you can live... in Him....

I've often thought this tale is a metaphor for God testing mankind to see if we were fit to rule ourselves. Until you have the determination to disobey, you are fit only to be a slave. I enjoyed your thoughtful interpretation.

They already successfuly ruled the Eden tho - they just wanted to be God , it was not enough for them. Now they are easy to understand as we humans are born with the same characters as those two, Gods motif why to allow the evil to happen is the harder one - why create us if You know well disobey and do evil?
@Chris_Sheridan
@Chris_Sheridan 3 года назад
Humans were not created to rule themselves - read the bible. God allowed Adam + Eve the choice whether to accept his rulership or not. God had given them everything - a paradise garden and the prospect of living forever. To continue living, they had to show appreciation for what God had given them - it was only right that God sets the standard for pure worship and determines what is right from what is wrong. Disobedience brings lawlessness, hence, the world today is experiencing the consequences of what it means to reject God's laws.

I doubt God would have created in His Own image such limited creatures as you describe. I believe the Almighty has always intended to take pride in creating a species that one day might surpass his own.

@@mimisvet8671 Wrong! Eve was deceived - she said so. She acknowledged that the 'serpent' had deceived her - Satan had claimed that she would 'be like God', knowing good and evil and that she would not die. She used her own free will and false reasoning to believe the lie - she began to desire the forbidden fruit, then ate from it which was a deliberate transgression of God's law. When Adam joined her, they both lost their spirituality - as perfect humans there was no way back - they had sinned without the possibility of forgiveness or redemption, hence, they were spiritually dead and also physically began to deteriorate and eventually die. Adam lived for 930 years and then he died - he returned to the dust of the ground from which he had been created. - Genesis 3.

Some parents, out of love, let the children (who do not listen) find out the hard way... instead of allowing them to be naive and therefore, unwise.
@Chris_Sheridan
@Chris_Sheridan 3 года назад
Some bad parents have poor parenting skills and are lazy and don't realize until it's too late that they have lost control over their children. The bible teaches that Christian parents should teach their children spiritual values from a young age - the difference between right and wrong - to avoid bad association and bad habits. God requires this and plenty of scriptures show the responsibilities that parents have.
@Chris_Sheridan
@Chris_Sheridan 3 года назад
Wrong! Loving parents do not let their children find out the hard way - they give guidance and teach their children before problems arise. Imagine a driving instructor allowing their students to drive a car without any instruction as to how to drive safely and respect the traffic laws - that instructor would be a worthless teacher and his students would not pass their driving test and get a license.

Adam and Eve were given everything, including God's perfect love. They rebelled perhaps more out of inexperience or naivete than ingratitude nevertheless exhibiting their built-in free will. They were "kicked out of the house" to fend for themselves and learn (the hard way) to appreciate... and to humble themselves before Almighty God, maker of heaven and earth. ...(and the destination of the unrepentant)...

@@r.addisonarthur9392 and as for the children who weren’t given a choice? what about satan ,the being that god knew would falter and kill others and yet allowed him to do so. if he wanted to stop him he could have if god didn’t want anyone to die or to suffer he would have never created him in the first place but what did he do he watched Adam and Eve be deceived knowing satan would show up and do so without stopping him or getting rid of the tree. the whole predicament is stupid Nothing about this makes sense at all

The road to wisdom is filled with suffering, but there is joy in the eventual peace of understanding. If one chooses to only seek happiness, that's all they'll get; with bewilderment and resentment that reality isn't all that peachy. There's no santa clause or happy horsesh*t fantasy rainbow unicorns nor huggable purple dinosaurs. Life's tough; it's tougher if you're stupid or distracted by selfish desires.

I am in tears. Many many years ago, I heard a similar version of this story ... the fact that Eve was tempted by "knowledge" was an epiphany. It opened my eyes to the terrible warping of women's roles by so many Church teachings. Women were debased ... temptresses and harlots. Mary Magdalene only rehabilitated by the Catholic Church in the 1950's. I left the Church and studied Hinduism and Buddhism in my twenty years in India. Then I evolved into a belief in my sharing "consciousness" with a Universal Creator or God. Mysticism ... but this beautiful interpretation of the Tree of Knowledge warms my heart and lets me revisit the faith of my dear Mother. Thank you, Rabbi Friedman 🙏

Having read the Old testament I'm confused on where it says all of this detailed information. Nowhere have I read that Adam and Eve were two souls in heaven given the mission to come down here. What I'm saying is this information is coming from somewhere else besides what I've read obviously and I'm just trying to find out where does this information come from.
@joshuat8742

He is ad-libbing ... there is no place where he got all this extra information. He made it up because it suits his interpretation. He might be partly right or partly wrong but you cannot take this information at face value. The Torah does not have all these words. The problem is anyone can go in and do the same thing and come out with a 180 degree different interpretation. I am against this kind of thing. Its one thing to interpret actual words ... its another to simply fill them in.
