Judaism was the first religion to do so, all the Abrahamic religion prohibited interest but the twist was they can't take interest from their own. Which meant Christian can't take interest from Christian, M from M, Jew from Jew. Jews always were a minority in both Muslim and Christian world so they lent money to Christian and muslims but never to their own.

It was not their economic habits. It was because the Christians believed they killed christ and also that they rejected him as a messiah. They still reject christ. That's why they were persecuted in Europe. Interestingly when the first crusade was sanctioned against the seljuk turks to take back Jerusalem, the peoples crusade, led by Peter the hermit, who responded to the popes call of arms, left from France and commited pogroms and burnt Jewish villages on their way to the middle east in what was then Rhineland, now called Germany. So this is a far more nuanced situation. I would refer you to the late Christopher Hitchens on the matter.

Did get one thing wrong: Jews have been persecuted pretty much throughout entire Middle East. Yea the term anti-semitism originated in Europe and have documented incidents there. However there has been consistent persecution across Syria, Yemen, Baghdad etc.

In case if you don’t know the history and Shekar giving you context less lesson about Karl Marx anti semitism, here is the truth, Marx is both anti religious and anti capitalism. In both Christianity and Islam, banking, especially interest based banking and money handling is prohibited. So in Europe mostly Jewish people practiced that profession, in by 19th century they were the major capitalist. This was the context behind Karl Marx, so as always Gupta will give only partial account anything.

A point to ponder about what Karl Marx wrote is, he did not talk of the theology of a Jew, but of a general bussiness character of a Jew (a profession they chose because they -smartly- took up interest collection and banking, which was kind of denied to others viz. Christians and Muslims, historically). So, what Marx said is more anti-capitalist than anti-semitist or anti-jews (who happened to prominent capitalists of that era).

I think , no one can claim of their original homeland after leaving by any reason, because original homeland has no meaning....... and if every community will seek their initial land, then there will be disaster in the world.... As I have studied Abrahamic faiths, islam & anti-semitism for some time, I think it's inaccurate to conclude that Jews were less persecuted in islam dominated regions as compare to Christian dominated Europe(if we exclude Holocaust during 2nd world War as Holocaust was the result of race rather than religion). In Europe, persecution was based upon religious propaganda while in Arab, persecution was based upon clear Commandment of Allah. Massacre of jews have been common feature in Arab history as second caliph Umar vowed to expel all the jews from Arabian peninsula.

Not a historian but as far as I know the historical roots of the sociological division between the Jews and the other Abrahamic religions comes from the practices about money lending, something that was allowed in Jewish religion but was criticized by jesus. Even muslims have rules regarding banks, interests, etc. But imo whatever the reason for Jew hatred, it's almost transparent that this feud of neighbouring countries is against Jews because of anti-Semitism, because that is the only variable difference between victim of all the other conflicts in the middle East that all the islamic world never cares about and Palestinians. You could say that it's just because the opponents are non Muslim like the west (and I agree it's not exactly anti-Semitism but anti-non muslim ism) but whatever the case, the Israel-gaza conflict is so viral among Muslims is specifically because Israelis are Jews (not-muslims). They don't give shit about all the other "muslim brethren" that are living just as bad if not worse life because of other Muslims.

@@nishadass6960 Ya that's obviously true. No one can argue that. They are obviously successful, both historically and currently. And that does create a lot of Jewish conspiracies and jealousy. But, the more interesting question (at least for me) is why they have been so successful. From what I could find, there's multiple related reasons. There's the non-taboo about banking, money lending that other Abrahamic religions had, culturally a society that emphasizes on education, and modern genetics shows that they also on an average have higher IQ (which is, imo a build up of generations of higher quality of living), and also a close knit society that re-enforces their culture which happens with almost all minorities. These are the real things that I think have caused Jews to succeed so much both historically and today. Both leftist like Marxists/Communists and right wingers like the Nazis fail to understand that often it's not race or class but certain cultures and social environment that lead to certain groups to succeed more than others.

Being against Israeli expansionist policies isn't being anti-Jew. The former is anti-zionism, the latter anti-semitism. A fine, but crucial difference. According to my late father Krishna Menon proved his narcissistic idiocy (UN speech for example), incompetence and obduracy during and after the war with China-- I've been "brainwashed" since childhood to have no respect for the man. However, the section of the speech quoted sounds anti-zionist rhetoric to me than anti-semitic. Before the state of Israel was carved out from someone else's territory, were the people in the region anti-semitic? I do agree that a lot of Muslims now are anti-semitic, but I'd argue that it started off as anti-zionism and got confused with anti-semitism and now has become anti-semitic.

Why do companies do this? Why can't they share the blame and sensitize the employees rather than wash their hands off of them? It's such a stupid trend in a world where high talent is increasingly rare. This guy is a cartoonist he might find other jobs. But sometimes simple people impressed by wrong or limited world view shared in their offices, communities, families etc are fired and their entire lives along with their dependents are upended. Companies behave as if they didn't know this was possible! I mean you hired the person trying to know their flaws and benefits. Why not take responsibility both ways?

Zakat is not a tax. Jizya is a protection or humiliation tax. Taxes are equal for all citizens, they don't defer based on religion. Jizya was used to force convert Kafirs to Muslims or as a pretext to spread slavery.

@@vinsin328 That is your theory. But as I understand, zakat is religious obligation of Muslims, and you cannot apply your religious obligation on people who are not Muslims. So they pay tax as state obligation, that is Jizya. I don’t see any 1st or 2nd class in this. Instead I see secularism in this, that you are not imposing your religious obligation on other religions. And most of the time the Jizya used to lesser than what zakat was paid by Muslims.

That is why rebellions by hindu jats took place when aurangzeb reinstated it while Muslim jaats did not as they did not have to pay additional jizya along with various economic tax. Same rebellion by Greeks and armenians took place in Turkiye when ottomans reversed some secular tanzimat reforms due to pressure from Muslim leading to it's collapse. Israel mandates military service for Jews but not for arabs citizens of Israel and we see how it is going with Arabs. Do not sugarcoat wrongdoings of islam for sake of presenting it as a excellent religion

The root of Jewish-Muslim problem also comes from Europe. It was during world war Arabs mostly took side of Hitler because the British were the colonizers. Naturally Nazzi ideology had its effect on Arab and Muslim culture. It is in the context of world war 2 the Muslim world became Anti Semitic. Even today the Arab Jews would say they never had any problem living with Muslims. Another factor was Israel was mostly populated with White European Jews whose culture was different from Arab Jews and Muslims. It was easy for the Muslims to see them as agents of British colonizers.

The roots of the problem lie prior to WW2, because its a religious conflict. They go back to the the 7th century with the creation of Islam and the ensuing power struggles in the region. Every state is a colonizer if you go back long enough, but prior to WW2, Germany had colonies in both Africa and Asia. 50% of Jews today and a similar portion during Israel's early years were Mizrahi Jews, or Jews from the immediate region (not Europe). They had been driven to Israel after being expelled for their religious beliefs. It was quite similar to partition. You are also wrong that Arab Jews would say they never had problems living with Muslims. In Israel's domestic politics, Arab Jews tend to be the most right wing.
