It is true average stock in my portfolio has been cut in half, and the only way to earn this year is to trade in very short time frames. I don't know if i should liquidate my dipping $117,000 portfolio or what other ways can i take advantage of this market?

With what I’ve learned over a decade investing, given enough time, solid investments have the potential to double the initial principal amount, but many investors are instead attracted to the lure of high yields in short periods of time despite the possibility of unattractive losses before even getting out. The best way to describe the present economy is 08' 2.0. Yes stocks are at a discount and things will eventually get better but my monthly living expense is up $3750 from $1600 and I'm left wondering what retirement have in store for me 5years down the line, I'm ill-prepared tbh, my 401k gains are zero-nothing and my stock portfolio?...OH WELL!

True, initially I wasn't quite impressed with my gains, opposed to my previous performances, I was doing so badly, figured I needed to diverssify into better assets, I touched base with a portfolio-advisor and that same year, I pulled a net gain of $550k...that's like 7times more than I average on my own.

You know, these days it's really easy to buy into trending stocks, but the task is determining when to sell or keep. I have HDFC bank and HUL in my folio. My buy and forget stock now is BEL. After booking profit in Bank of India , I will add HDFC bank. Another switchover I am contemplating is to exit from Tech Mahindra ( 1300 ) and invest in Canara Bank , although the price is near 52WK high , the CMP is equal to its BV and the P/E is bellow the Sector P/E and the price was up on Friday with good volume ! ( My buy & forget stock is IRB INVT which bought around Rs 65/- ( CMP 73 ) and with a fantastic dividend ( in various forms like interest etc ) and that is why it will not be found in the list of high dividend yield stock ! Thank you for spending a lot of time to educate the investors.

No one can do that for you. You need to spread your bets across multiple stocks and hope one or few of those give good returns. Don't rely on finding multi-baggers. Rely on growing your wealth consistently, even if by a small amount.

You missed a fairly important detail in HDFC bank profits. White revenue has doubled, the profits went 2.5X a large part of it is due to the 10% reduction in Tax. Which is in the column above the profits. If you look at PBT, it went from 28.5 to 61.5, which is roughly in line with the increase in revenue. The extra .5 X multiple is coming largely from the tax cut, since Operating margin is also flat at 16%.

As everybody in India knows Nifty did not give any returns in last 2 years the major reason for is Reliance and HDFC bank. Now NIFTY is 19500 but HDFC is not moving. The only non- performing stocks are IT stocks and HDFC bank andReliance. Akshat tell us you are brand ambassador of HDFC bank? Otherwise no reason for promoting HDFC now and they are bad situation due to their non performing loans other issues

being an techie guy currently in gerative AI and stuff . i dont think it is not customer ready yet the people who has need of genAI is less i think microsoft , meta , google have more advantage than apple. See currently Google is trying to penetrate into apple space exactly aiming at same customers and due to inflation people are trying to get balance with luxuary , value and utility so not really do huge bet on apple. USA and China are two countries that apple has strong userbase and now google is picking up a lot of interest in age group of 25-35 . Samsung is also a trying to get in apple mac space so i dont see the exponential growth in apple. see i might be wrong it is just my understanding i dont know abc about finance so just putting some points.

Well apple stock is good but AI stock in US is nvidia as all graphics card made by it plus it makes the framework for running AI like CUDA anyone can make code but language will always be deep learning and cuda check nvda stock it will grow massively

Akshat. Titan was not a market leader when RKJ bought it. Titan was debt ridden and had made bad capital allocation decision in 2001 which is why Tata group had a major pain reviving it. It didn’t have TAM because ppl were buying jewellery from unorganised markets. So please buy and hold doesn’t always work. Anyone who had told at that time that titan is a multibagger also told him that the company is very risky to invest in but tatas will revive it and u can easily make 100% return but RKJ said tatas will make more money than that It works if company is very cheap and has made phenomenal progress towards growing their balance sheet. If u buy companies that have given amazing returns over the last 10 years they will be expensive. Hdfc,asian paints are all expensive stocks and they are losing market share not gaining it.

You are sounding therotically correct on HDFC BANK but with the argument that this stock will grow approximately 3x in the next five years basis of the bank increasing its revenue twice in that much period, how do u justify that in the last five years this stock has moved only on 9% CAGR. My take is that the earlier euphoria of investing in HDFC Bank no longer exists as the competitors have caught up with all the effeciencies and their PE being very attractive they have attracted a lot of investors. I point towards ICICI , AXIS, FEDERAL and other small banks. These banks have been performing brilliantly in the last four to five years resulting in their price moments graph going north bound. HDFC Bank still has a lot to catch up on earnings as it's PE is still on the higher side compared to its rivals

Between 26th June to 30th June 2023, HDFC CEO was called by Home Ministry. There is an internal news that, HDFC has opened many Mule acccounts through which money laundering has happened. Due to which CEO was made to sit in Home ministry for almost 4-5days. Then he left on 30th, since there was a merger. Something is wrong within HDFC.

Buying a stock at an all time high is not right. HDFC being suggested even after it was at an all time high maybe wasn’t correct as it has been on a sideways and down trend similar to Kotak.
