I bought my 2002 Tacoma for 7k with 300k on theclock and I’m going through all the oils and a new timing belt this spring. My I won’t sell it price is 10,000 and that’s firm.
i bought one for 1600 it was dead i got it towed to my house. I fixed it in the same week the guy i bought from told me that the he had put in more than 500 dollars into it, turns out the coils were dead.. i couldn't believe it, He was selling it for parts oh and it had 115,000 miles man i was lucky. i've been offered for it but its the first truck i were to ever own i am very happy and i don't see myself parting with it anytime soon.
What yall would pay for an 02 taco 4wd trd offroad extracab great body with new frame bad ac unit bad uppercontrol arms, 248k on it? I paid 4800 she runs great just gatta fixer up tell me how I did on my first cash purchase. Im still learning but god i love this truck. Reminds me of my grandpas old truck i guess thats why im so obsessed with it.
Hello bought my mom's 2002 Toyota Tacoma With 180000 When we changed the spark plugs looked like they have never been changed but it still feel like it's grabbing Air from somewhere. Anything idea what it may be? Pple leave me notes if Im willing to sell it call them y is that? It doesn't look abandoned lol
I’ve got a 2004 PreRunner with 300k that I bought in 2016 with 180k. I’ve had very few problems until recently when the transmission started giving me problems. Got that swapped out for a good price. But a month after the swap, it started doing the same thing where it seems to drop into 2nd or 3rd where the temp gauge immediately spikes and it stalls out at stops unless i throw it in neutral. I have to rev it up to get it going again. Got the thermostat swapped, and it’s still happening. Next is the water pump and timing belt to see how that goes. Any tips would be most appreciated!
@Jimmy Lee not that I know of. The guy that had her before babied her really well so I've been using her as a work horse and man she's been STEADY till recently. Feel like I dropped the ball and got complacent letting things slip.
Looking tomorrow at a 2001 double cab 4x4 with 134k miles for $9k and change. It looks clean in terms of regular servicing. Hope it looks as good in person. I’ve always preferred the smaller model Tacomas to the modern enormo sized version
I bought an 02. Single cab, short bed work truck with a 5spd. 212,000. Previous owner has all maintenance records from when he bought it 2011. Anything that broke he had fixed. Interior is perfect. Engine is perfect. Exterior needs a little work but I'll get it done.
I have a 2000 SR5 extended cab 4wd automatic 6-speed with 220,000k. I've always done good maintenance on it, garage kelt. There's nothing like the feel of driving the first gen Tacomas. I started out with a 1995 Tacoma 4wd" I fell asleep at the wheel hitting a guardrail cutting the whole front end into"drivers door came off, front driver wheel came off, then landed into the emergency lane"totaled it, not a scratch on me. Never let anyone tell you these trucks are not strong.
@@Nacho2034 i got a story to tell you ,by the time i got there here told me right away sorry to waist your time and take a 100$ to leave lol i offered 400 dollars more to keep it for me and when i should up there was a bid war it was at 3400$ and he got more then that am sure because i left with 100$ and the bidding wasnt over , what a shame i dint get it
My '02 Tacoma 4x2 has 328K on it. My brake light went on, I just put more fluid in the thingy, it went off ;) I'm getting ready to do the manifold gasket, give it a tune up, put a new stereo in it, replace the original bench seats. Engine purrs, I love it.
I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma great truck came from Florida and has barely any rust on it. Got it for 3,800 only issue I have had is it is a 2WD but at the time I was looking for a small truck to use around the house
@@Nacho2034 Thanks I did a little more research and found out that the single cab and the xtra cab have carseat hooks in the front passenger seat so that's where my little one rides with me
I have an 03 TRD Offroad with stepside bed. The late Gen 1 Tacoma has a timeless style that is the perfect size for me. I know that frame rust can be an issue, so always examine frame before buying. I found a Nevada truck (Its whole life) with zero frame rust. Just do your routine maintenance and timing belt every 90K miles.
Driving my daily driver 193,000 miles on 2000 Toyota Tacoma 2WD 4 cylinder automatic X-tra cab. Runs great. My fourth Toyota Truck. 1985, 1991, 1995, and now the 2000. You can't beat a Toyota Pickup. This came out of Virginia 8 years ago with solid frame. Paid $9,000 with 47k on it then. I've driving Toyotas since 1983, love them.
Brake fluid doesn’t evaporate. There is either a brake fluid leak , or the brake pads are worn out . A full brake inspection would be the safest step to take , when the brake light comes on.
There is a 2003 Tacoma that is selling for $14k.Beautiful paint and everything works fine according to the seller. I’m interested in buying it but I don’t know the value of old Tacoma so is $14k too much for a 03 or is it a good price?
Mine again 04. Trd 4 door 192.xxx. and running like a charm. People allways asking if l would like to sale it, but with the price of the new ones no way. Congratulations for you.
My brother just bought one yesterday on Craigslist for $3,750 but it needed some TLC..nothing crazy just some engine work..like the idler pulley needing replacement needs a stock exhaust the aftermarket one is throwing a code...rear doors need new lock hinge..The tacoma has 256k and was from the original owner which was his dad and passed it on to his son. So basically stayed in the family. Its a 2001 Tacoma double cab V6 prerunner TRD off road with the rear lockers..MY BROTHER HAS BEEN LOOKING FOR ONE OF THE THESE FOR YEARS!!! FINALLY FOUND HER...
From my own experience you can’t go wrong with owning a Toyota. Having said that I do need to say that buying any used vehicle is always a gamble simply because you don’t know how it was treated. It took about 6 months for me to get a feel for how my truck likes to be driven. Now that it has been a year my confidence in the is truck is higher than I expected it to be. Take the truck to a good mechanic and have him do a thorough inspection. Good luck JOEPINIII
Hi I was was wondering if this was a good deal... guy is selling a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L 4 cylinder pickup manual transmission with 95,000 miles for 13k is that too much? went and saw the truck it’s in really good condition but not sure about the price.
I hope I caught you in time, I personally would not buy that truck. You can buy a certified used truck from a dealer for a little more than that. I think you should keep looking.
Jimmy Lee yeah it ended up being from a certified dealer it didn’t look like it though his inventory was hidden lol but I backed off just because he wanted $13,300 out the door. Usually around my area they can go for that much but kbb and car gurus said it was $3,000 overpriced 😅
I own a 2003 Tacoma. I bought it in Nov of ‘14. It had 92k on the clock. 5 years later it has 172k and she drives perfect! I’ve went through everything that needed to be done prior to it potentially failing. Upper and lower ball joints, timing belt, plugs, wires, belts, changed all the oils out. Did a few upgrades. Upper control arms, Fox 2.0 lift, rear springs. I plan on driving her 300k more miles. These little trucks hold their value so well due to their reliability. 1st gen Tacoma guy 4 life! My brake light goes on when it’s cold out and when it warms up it shuts off. Post down below said to check the brake fluid reservoir. Makes sense being that when mine warms it expands and most likely then shuts off the limit switch on the brake fluid? Worth a try 👍🏼...
Mine is a 04 TRD that I bought new and it has 200k on it. I had to fix the water pump, change the belt, wiring in the driver's side door, and one engine coil but other than that, just oil changes and new tires every so often. It is one of the best purchases that I have ever made. People still offer me 8k for it.
What’s going on man I been searching for a truck I had an 06 Tundra but sold it waste too much gas.. anyways been looking at this trucks I found one with 136,466 miles 2002 one owner looks clean a dealer have it I wanted to buy a new truck but it looks like this trucks last forever if you take care of them I don’t want monthly payments so I rather just buy something good n cash they are asking 7k which is not bad let me know what u think thanks
honestly right now with the economy I wouldn’t expect to get kbb (Kelly blue book) prices for it. Look up kbb if your not familiar with what that is. If your not experiencing issues the value should still be be high enough to help you with what you may owe assuming you took out a loan. However, without doing research I would imagine that you might sell the vehicle and then end up upside down around $8,000. I could be wrong but I’m working with limited details. I hope all is well brother.
Buy one that has not been washed my dad washed his for the first time since he only had it new it is also a 2002 but not he can see it is rusting quicker
I bought my truck. 2003 v4 2.4L with 104,500 miles for $4,500. Carfaxed it to make sure I wasn't being screwed. Couldn't believe the deal and jumped on it. Great purchase bro. Hope you enjoy your truck.
Jimmy Lee I found my truck in my city. I live in Arizona. Off an app called offer up. It's like Craigslist. You can Also search on Facebook marketplace if your looking for a truck. Hope this works.
The one you have is the small 4-cylinder baby Tacoma the one he has is the bigger v6 version that's around the price they normally go for 8 to 10 grand$$
I just bought an 04 Access cab, 2.7 with 40K miles. I have wanted one of these for many years and was shocked when it popped on Nextdoor! Super clean all over. Never used to tow, all maint records. Had the oil changed every 6 months. Crazy!
rafa lopez I paid $8250, he was the brewmaster at a local pub so I told him to fill the bed of the truck up with beer and I’ll pay cash today!!! It worked, he was asking $10,000.
Bought my 01 TRD prerunner 5 years ago with 110k on it for 9k. Came with e-locker, cab, and dealer option moon roof. The original owner loved it almost as much as I do. Haven't had any major issues with it, just rolled 213k she's barely broken in. Happy trails it'll serve you well I'm sure.
I just bought a 95 ext cab 4 banger with 102k, on my way to pick it up i saw a 2002 crew cab pre runner v6 with 180k and i bought it too 🤣 after driving them both im keeping the 2002 and selling the 95, also now i know why everyone buys toyotas.
I had a 2002 Tacoma extended cab with 268,000 miles, traded it to a private party car flipper for a 2004 Tacoma, crew cab 4 door, with 170,000 miles plus $1,000 cash me to him. Im pretty happy with that deal. A few months later another Tacoma flipper wanted to trade even his 2005 Tacoma (BIGGER TRUCK) with 130,000 miles, even trade for mine. I don't like the bigger Tacoma's. I'll trade this one, when I can find another with lower miles.
Brake fluid check to start. Just bought an 01 Tacoma today. I said the same thing when I test drove it. ( feels tight) . My daily has been an 02 wrangler. Both are stick , but night and day in driving. Enjoyed the video.
Juan Manuel Jaime dealers always mark up their vehicles so they can turn a profit. I would steer clear of buying any vehicle from a dealer. If you keep looking you’ll find the deal that satisfies you to where you won’t need to ask for opinions. You’ll just know. 11.5k is a lot for any vehicle with 177k. I would keep looking. That’s my opinion.
2009 Toyota Tacoma owner, 175,000 miles, just change oil, on schedule, runs like a champ. Gets me to work everyday and have a lot of fun off-roading, a lot of fun.
I have the same truck but mines is white trd off road with rear lockers. I bought mine off the original owner and it was in mint condition inside/out. Love my tacoma 2003 Double cab...
Paul Sandoval I do still have the truck and I just posted a video about my gas mileage. Go check it out and subscribe. I’ll be posting more frequently. Thanks
Nice! I'm looking at one now with 190k, 3" toytec lift with 31s(ish), topper, 4x4 double cab, only $7k but does have professionally done rear frame patch. Looking at it tonight so I'll see what I think. You regret your purchase or still going strong and loving it?
@@azorianification the whole frame ended up being beyond shot. Otherwise I had the cash on me to buy it on the spot. It looked nice, but would've needed thousands and thousands in frame repair or swap
That sounds like a good deal only if the maintenance is up to date. I dropped an additional $2,000 into my truck immediately after the purchase just on maintenance and a few upgrades.
Just saw this video...great job! I have a 2019 (bought new in Jan 0f 19) TRD Off Road 4X4 DCSB and have put 52K miles on it during that time...great truck....I like Tacomas...I have a close friend that just sold (last week) his 2002 manual transmission TRD Off road V6 4X4 (with rear locker) Xrtra cab with long bed Tacoma to my (18 year old) son. My friend bought the truck new, and kept it spotless - though it had 234K miles. It has a nice suspension lift, heavy duty Warn Winch/bumper set up, new 33" Goodyear Duratrac tires and a few other things (lights, etc). My friend also replaced the Timing belt/water pump and clutch within the past 5K miles. He sold it to my son for 3500. I was a bit concerned about the miles, but my friend has kept up with all the maintenance since the truck was new, he even changed the oil every 2500 - 3000 miles. The truck is spotless in side and out (absolutely ZERO rust - southern car and he kept it garaged too)! I must say the little truck is so solid and it drives wonderfully - the size is great (we have a horse farm on a river) and it goes on small trails with ease. After doing a bit of research I think my friend practically gave the truck to my son....I know my son is happy. Enjoy yours and be safe.
@@PiLLO360 ha yes. He’s a close friend of mine. My son now has put quite a few more miles on it…he just replaced the brakes (front and back). He was offered 11 k for the truck…while it was being repaired lol. Someone saw it and loved it. He was shocked too at the price my son paid.
From my experience the first generation which he has is the best. I bought it the second generation with a 4.0 engine and the gas was horrible and the engine I just don’t like it. Now I have a 2001 3.4 engine which is great on gas and very durable.
I have the 2002 Tacoma TRD 3.4. The brake light was going off on my truck because the plug at the master cylinder was full of debris and the fluid was low. After topping it off and cleaning the connection I haven’t had the light back on.
I bought my 98 SR5 2 years ago with 131K for $5k, 1 owner & garage kept, just replaced clutch @ 138K miles & it run like new & should last me many more years, only drive it once or twice a week.
bro i just got a 99 tacoma with 4 inch lift, 33 inch tires blacked out everything with zero rust and undercoating also with 102,000 miles for $5,300. you overpayed buddy
@@Nacho2034 I'm selling my 98 taco as we speak. Same thing, the parking brake light started to stay on. Parking brake engages and releases fine, but there must be a loose connection somewhere.
Nice Truck! I bought my 2003 new, still my daily driver. In addition to the comments about timing belt, water pump, coolant drain, and trans service, I would swap your thermostat (go oem) when you are doing the coolant, replace the fluids in the diffs and transfer case, and get under her with a grease gun, and go to town on the zerk fittings.
dtgman227 I need to do a detailed video of everything that I have done. I actually did the coolant diffs and transfer case but I didn’t hit the zerks and I didn’t replace the thermostat. Thank you, for the comment. I am editing another video this week.
Soo we just got an 03’ FWD 4 cilindrrs. I has 230k miles on it. I think i know a bit more about cars than my hubby 😅. And i was just telling him about replacing timing belt and water pump...so what about transfer case and differential? Just grease up?
Truck just need a bit of paint on the hood and top, other than that its in excellent shape. Got brand new Tacoma wheels that came of a ‘17 We might need to lift it a bit i think
Same here. I bought mine new in 2003, as well. She has 123k on her and drives like new. Regular maintenance, as you wrote, is essential. I've done exactly what you've done. Timing-belt, WP, rotors, Master brake cylinder, coolant flushes, and EFI flushes. Plus, I've had the air-conditioner replaced. The thing is, a car is a car. And they will all break down on you if you don't maintain them. I have only put about 20k on her in the last 10 years because she's not my primary car anymore, but every time that I do get to drive her - it's terrific! Love my Taco!
What Toyota Tacoma model year would you recommend buying? I've seen the 08 & 09 models have a recall for a faulty fuel pump. Makes me quite hesitant, thanks!
