Why did James VI Start the Berwick Witch Trials? 

The Berwick Witch Trials were instigated after key events in the life of James VI of Scotland... the First British Royal Wedding. Scottish history tour guide Bruce Fummey tells of the events and consequences of the wedding of James VI. They were huge for the British Isles. They were particularly important for some poor hapless women on both sides of the North Sea.
King James VI of Scotland would become King James I of England and create the Union of the Crowns on the British isles. This meant that his royal wedding with Anne of Denmark was the first British Royal Wedding. However it took place in an unexpected venue and what should have been pomp and ceremony led to the North Berwick Witch Trials where James VI exacted a cruel retribution on innocent women for his own superstition.
