Another thing to note in both Matthew and Mark is the fact that the fig tree had leaves, but Jesus found no fruit (not even taqsh). The presence of leaves is an indicator that taqsh should have been present, but it was essentially a "false advertisement" that it was blooming for spring but had no taqsh. With Israel representing the fig tree, this symbolizes their hypocrisy of outward appearance (of only leaves) but no (spiritual) fruit. So cursing the fig tree is Jesus' judgment upon Jerusalem for its hypocrisy of piety that had no true spiritual fruit. Jesus then clears the temple after cursing the fig tree, because likewise, the worship at the temple was all showy and impressive (though it was even worse that they made it a den of robbers) but it was not a genuine worship (masked by hypocrisy).
For those curious, what's being described, the early fig crop, is called the breba. This is an "out of season" crop that can come prior to the main crop, and the fruit grows and ripens earlier, out of season, because they are attached to mature branches from the prior season.
actually wild figs have several crops - which is necessary as the figs wasp has to survive over the year - that gets reduced in cultivated figs to 2 crops out of which one is the main crop and the one before is negligible, even if not completely inedible.
@@Chociewitka well you’re talking about male figs since those are the ones which house the fig wasp. And yes those have multiple crops if they are whats called a persistent variety, that can host a colony of wasps throughout the whole year. These are called mamme, profici, and mammomi; these are, however, inedible male figs.
@@camden7488 it is called the taqsh, but this is what is understood to be the breba (from the spanish word breva, which comes from the latin word bifera, meaning two crops).
The Lord also used this verse to convict me of my own spiritual state. From a distance the fig tree gave off an impression of having fruit but as Jesus drew near under closer inspection there was none. Just like Israel and also myself....PTL.
This is a good one. I often see this being pointed out as jesus acting unreasonably or out of rage when he had a very good reason for doing what he did.
What a coincidence, yesterday I was reading the book of Clarence Larkin, God's plan with the world, translated to Dutch and I read the same thing that you, Sam, told about the fig tree.
I have recently been pondering this question and have been concerned I would get asked this question by and not have a sufficient answer. The timing for this is definitely a prayer answered from God. Thank you Sam. God bless you and your daughters ☦️
Haven't listened to the video yet but theologically the fig symbolized rebellious Israel, the first crop which went bad (keeping in mind this is shortly before the Crucifixion) before the covenant being "opened" to the Gentiles aka the second crop...
Sam , praise the Lord, your teachings have gone viral across the world, they're on Facebook too , you're doing a good job, keep it up bro. God bless you, Merry Christmas.
Here's some food for thought; John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Good answer Ahono, there's also another important reason: fig trees of that area undergone two or sometimes three fruition seasons, and for a tree as big and mighty as the one Jesus saw from afar, you'd expect to find someone fruits from the previous season. The tree was full or leaves and pride but bore no fruits like the Jewish nation in that period, prophets books psalms laws with no fruits.
Learning more from listening to you than all of my bible studies growing up Catholic, pentecostal, jehovah withness!! Thank you sam!! Thinking about converting to jews for Jesus...👁🙏❤️🇮🇱🇹🇼🇹🇴🇺🇸
Since you ask it’s analogous to those whom are of a particular synagogue with a claim of a fig tree being established in 1948 representing no fruits of the spirit but a wild fig that wouldn’t be able to consume.
According to Jewish tradition, they believed that the forbidden fruit Adam and Eve ate was not an apple (thats western tradition) but the fruit from a fig tree. This is probably due to the fruits found in that region and because they covered themselves with fig leaves the moment they realised their nakedness. The assumption is that the first leaves they grabbed would have been from the forbidden fruit's tree. If we apply what early jews believed of the tree, Jesus cursing it is even more profound. Jesus is cursing the tree who's fruit caused the downfall of the first Adam and mankind...Because the new Adam is about to commence his Passion which would lead to mankinds salvation.
The bible tells us to be ready in season and OUT of season. 2 Timothy 4:2 ESV [2] preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
Thank you Sam, i honor you and praise the Lord Jesus Christ for the gift your life. My knowledge, zeal and understanding of the scripture grew in many folds ever since i started listening to your teachings. I pray that God preserves your health and provides for you and your family in all endeavours of life.
and Jesus went into the TEMPLE OF GOD and cast out all them THAT SOLD AND BOUGHT IN THE TEMPLE,AND OVERTHREW the TABLES of the MONEY CHANGERS,and the seats of them that sold doves.. AND SAID UNTO THEM,It is written, MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED THE HOUSE OF PRAYER,BUT YE HAVE MADE IT A DEN OF THIEVES.. in that context, then the fig tree story appears,Jesus was showing through the fig tree,a truth or what would b the outcome of the temple n Jewish leaders, who were suppose to b doing something(like the fig tree)but instead didn't.. the temple had a section allocated for the sick etc,but they weren't allowed in,that space was rather used to make money,Jesus was furious, then he sees this tree, that's claiming to b something its not..then He shares a truth...
There's a second reason why that passage is in the bible. Look at the context around that verse. The day before Hesus entered Jerusalem. He explained Jesus is the passover lamb that will permanently take away te penalty of sin. What was the first penalty of sin? Adam and Eve used Fig leaves to hide their shame. Isaiah 53 says Jesus took our penalty but Jesus also became shameful for us so we don't have to have shame. That's huge in Asian and Jewish culture. Jesus cursed the fig tree because Jesus cursed the curse... of shame over sin. We are to live in God's grace now. No longer hiding in shame, but shining as the light of the world. No more hiding in fig leaves...that's jesus' point. ❤

You and father mar mari changed my life. I was going good for so long until got distracted from my faith life was getting harder in all ways. I got married and 2 kids started having hard times. I turned to god and committed since then my life is better my heart is better I study so much. My spare time is spent reading and listening. I fall asleep listing to the most night. Would love to meet you 1 day and shake your hand.
So if this is to be applied to us, we should have indications also that we will bear fruit? It makes me consider what signs I have in words and deeds and thoughts that I too will bear fruit.
Ask him to give you a sign. I asked him and he is letting me know by coins. A penny is one soul. 5 cents is 5 souls A dime is 10 souls and anything over a dime is a multitude of people. And believe me.. I’ve had instances where I found quarters but mainly it’s a penny here and Penny there on some occasions it’s a dime and over a dime. But that’s how he lets me know that I’m bearing fruit.
Wasting your time preaching/speaking to demonic people. They are deaf on hearing. They will only mock and cause displease amongst you. But continue to speaking the word of the Lord and don't lose your cool cause that's what the demons want. They want you to get frustrated and angry.
