It's also another example of how names can possess power, where other fantasy stories have it as part of a binding contract to something else or to another place. There was even a belief that one should be careful of who they give their actual names to, because some will use it against them and bind that person to their world, unless someone else comes along to break that spell. Here, it's the ancient Chinese equivalent of calling somebody by their full name, which also often includes their middle name, and this is just in Western countries and some Eastern ones...and it usually happens when that person has found themselves walking on thin ice. Usually, the only people who would know this are those who are close to that person, such as families and even close friends.
I’ve literally gone down the rabbit hole of MDZS in the last two weeks. I watched The Untamed in 2.5 days. I bought/pre-ordered all the English translated novels and am reading a book a day and pre-ordered the manhua! Can’t wait until Tuesday. I’m obsessed😭
Lovely to see so many international fans! I wish you all could understand Chinese because there are so many word plays and double meanings and literary fun that adds so much depth but can't be translated into English.
I was literally at the bookshop with my mum, and found this!!! And when I told her (my mum) I wanted it, she bought it for me for Christmas!!!! She knows nothing about Mxtx novels and I'm so happy (:
As far as I know, he's jokingly referring to the time when WWX introduced himself like this to Mianmian back when all the teenagers were at the Wen re-education camp. WWX was flirting introducing himself as Yuandao because it had some double meaning I can't recall. LWJ is subtly teasing him about his forward flirtiness when he calls him that.
@@spots_of_violet poem, 青青河畔草,绵绵(mianmian: something being soft&far)思(si: think of) 远道(yuandao: far road)。It actually means "green is the riverside grass, long extends my yearning for the far-away road", in which the "far away road" stands for the writer's far away husband. The girl's name was mianmiam, so Weiying used it to allude "you were thinking of me"?
@@landmerry_6742 Oh, lovely that you explained that! I couldn't remember the meaning, but that is really pretty. Proficient in the arts indeed, Wei Wuxian.
About 96hrs ago... I was unaware of The Untamed. Now... even my feed is pulling me into the abyss of MDZS! I know what the original novel is called...the English translation is called, started reading that after I binged 50 episodes... I found out about the Animé version...my phone rings to the theme music of the live action version... Can someone please explain what's happening to me????
