I got to see this giant flying with the shuttle piggybacking it when I was a kid. To this day it remains one of the most awesome inspiring moments of my life.
This reminded me of that one Superman scene at the beginning of the movie where this NASA 747 gets dragged together into the upper atmosphere because the space shuttle is still attached on the plane. Not sure which movie but you get the idea.
Before I even watch the video, I have the reason Shuttle has spit out bare flames and the fact that the flames are blue tell you they’re hot enough to melt the metal on the tail of the plane they would melt all the metal and the tail would come straight off the roof would also melt You don’t need the video just read comments
@@KiwianPlayz cause you can see the other reply he is american he wouldn’t understand it swiss is actually swiss but moved to germany as if you know he has a swiss passport
Swiss001 where is that video where you make a girl fly tye cirrus jet to show how easy to fly it because I can't find the video didnyou unlisted the video?
Anyone ever watch the Superman movie with a aircraft like this and a spaceship getting deployed off of it but it failed and the tail got burned off, yeah this is more or less the same thing but with Swiss that tail would prob be gone in less then 10 seconds
This idea would work but the rudder would be melted or at least most of the components holding the rudder which would cause the rudder to completely fall off. That is why planes like the AN-225 would have been a better option for this. The rudders on the AN-225 are at the end of the tail wings with a huge wide spread. Plus the AN-225 has a much greater MTOW and MLW to handle the shuttle. They could also modify and rewire the shuttle controls to the 747, but at the time, no one had the brain power to think of this. Not to mention, technology back then had too many flaws, so they tried to rewire the shuttle to the 747. There would probably be a ton of flaws and life losses due to the mechanical failure, which could cause NASA and the space programs to completely shut down for good. Then the other space programs would be completely banned from continuing on any space projects. I mean look at aviation today. You got to many stupid protocols that make aircraft manufacturers not want to build any real new designs because of the failures of the last set of aircraft. Look at what happened with the 737 MAX and Concord because of plane crashes all the 737 MAXs were grounded because of newer technology. Samething happened with the concord which put a ban that manufacturers aren't allowed to make super sonic jets. We claim that aviation is the safest it's ever been that's because nothing new is changing and people are banned from trying anything new. It is kind of sad, actually.
So a few reasons why Nasa didn’t try this is because if they took off using the Space Shuttle they engines, there’s a high chance the engines will explode because the RS-25 engines on space shuttles use liquid hydrogen fuel and liquid hydrogen isn’t good in Earth’s lower atmosphere. So the engine’s nozzle either explode or it would barely do anything since their defective in lower earth atmosphere. That’s why they use Boeing 747s to take them to a high altitude, then release them into the atmosphere so their engines would start their burn. And if your going to ask me how it worked in MFSI or however you spell it (I forgot how to lol), I’ll probably just blame the physics.
Rocket engines consume WAY more propellant than any jet engine. They needed that whole orange EFT just to have enough propellant to make orbit. After they ditched it, the main engines wouldn't run again, and they had to run off the relatively low thrust OMS engines
Because it’s a horrible idea? Plus the shuttle has no fuel tank on the plane, so it could fire for like 20 seconds then have no fuel left, using onboard fuel tanks, we would need to add the external tank, and probably beef up the plane, do a lot of editing to the shuttle design to change the center of gravity, and even then who knows if it would work or even be more efficient than just launching it normally.
