The Jedi, I feel, with not much thought, were a good example of a religion or cult becoming engrained in the government almost like a weird version of the prime minister/pope relationship except there really wasn’t a specific leading Jedi like there’s a pope. Anyways, in this universe things are much more understood and almost simply a homeostasis of energy, good vs evil, and the force basically took the place of god or the priesthood. It’s says a lot about our actually organized belief system that relies on mostly stories passed down whereas, long ago in a galaxy far, far away, there’s less mention of the god figure and less of a personification of the god, making the indirect suggestion that god is beyond form and is pure energy which is the understanding that enlightens the Jedi into their ascension into the force and disappearance. It’s an interesting take on a universe where the Jedi have answered and understand the meaning of life and can manipulate it. I like the simplicity of the views of the Jedi and the interesting Symbol of darkness that arises when Palpatine tries to speak of darth plagues the wise which is like their version of a biblical story that can be openly interpreted and manipulated into a dark force to ruin lives which religion has in many cases what with the inquisition and terrorist attacks you could even say the nazis were religious fanatics in their own right thinking they were cleansing when they really were only misled by a drug addled fool. But palpatine was basically the star wars version of a satanic ritualist that understood and perverted the meaning of life that got into politics and tried to ruin everything in an attempt to exercise more control and power. Anyways the symbols are subtle and reaching but if you see them it’s crazy.

No. Even at the height of Jedi power. Very, very few people in the entire Galaxy ever saw or interacted with a Jedi. So it was heard of but never seen.
@samchaleau
@samchaleau 4 года назад
Lol. The idea of the force as a religion is entirely due to people looking at the surface level of the story. The mockery of the uneducated by calling it a religion (both with the general in the Death star and with Han on the Falcon) were both used to indicate how people now saw the Jedi. The Jedi themselves didn't see it as a religion. It was just another aspect of physics, like thermodynamics, time, or gravity. This is why Lucas introduced the concept of Midichlorians. It was NEVER intended by Lucas to be a religion. I'm pretty sure it was addressed in the canon where the "religion" of the jedi was something the empire pushed so as to discredit the Jedi. The Jedi Order were guardians of peace and justice throughout the galaxy. Not some cult of worshippers of a mystical power. The force was part of them but also a tool they used. It wasn't something that required belief or ritual. While the Sith used ritual, it was in order to create more fear and anger that they could use to more effectively attune to the force. Something they could have done in any number of ways, but making it "mysterious" suited their purposes in retaining power. The jedi never used ritual.

As an average Joe citizen of the Old Republic/Galatic Empire, I have to say... I hated the Jedi. They were a weird monastic group that did nothing for ordinary people like me. Divisions within their Order resulted in wars that cost billions of lives! Remember Taris? They had a truly bizarre level of political authority, including access to the most powerful people in the galaxy. They even had the legal right to take your children away if they deemed them "force sensitive", whatever that means! They functioned like a secret police force and they were above the law. And while they sat in their high tower pretending to be wise and doing absolutely nothing for society beyond the arbitration of the odd trade dispute, who paid for them? WE THE TAX PAYERS. The Jedi were accountable to no one. I wasn't even surprised when they tried to murder the Supreme Chancellor. Since when does having the ability to move rocks give an unelected group of people the wisdom and authority to "guide" the fates of millions of worlds? If not for the Emperor's foresight and planning, the Jedi Cabal would still be puppeteering the Senate. Thankfully Palpatine ended the corruption at the heart of our system and made the Empire great again!!!!
@nomansland472
@nomansland472 5 лет назад
It's a shame that the empire was betrayed from the inside by the traitorous Vader. I trusted his better judgement in wiping out the terrorists, yet he assassinated palatine at his weakest. I still hope that the first order will bring stability back to the galaxy. The new Republic was nothing more than a extension of the corrupt influence of the old jedi. My allegiance will always lie with the empire.
@Salnax
@Salnax 4 года назад
Unironically though, I imagine that even a lot of people who opposed the Empire never liked the Jedi all that much. One of the things I’d use to wonder about is whether the reformed Republic would treat Jedi differently, perhaps making sure not to give direct political power to them.

The most unsettling thing about the Jedi is that they could take your freakin' free will away! Make you do, say, THINK whatever they want. I saw it happen... I was working as a bartender at this club on Coruscant when this Jedi strolls in and orders a drink. I didn't actually know he was a Jedi at first. I'd never seen one before (or since), and I hadn't been living on Coruscant for very long, so just about everything looked exotic and strange to me. But then this skeezer rolled up to him and tried to sell him some death sticks, and the Jedi told him (and I'll never forget this) that he should go home and rethink his life. To which the the trash bantha repeated verbatim what the Jedi said, turned around, and beat it the fuck outta there. That really freaked me out... Being able to erase or manipulate what basically makes you a sentient being is one thing, but the fact that the Jedi presume that they have the right to blithely impose that power on their fellow citizens whenever it's convenient for them is downright TERRIFYING! I can't think of a more heinous violation that a person could commit upon another person. It's worse than physical rape in my mind, but the Jedi do it with aplomb to people who are simply annoying them. How do you think the Jedi would turn your mind inside-out if they REALLY had a bone to pick with you? Nobody should have that much power and be free to wield it on the people without stricture, or consequence. That's just tyranny.

I thought it was pretty obvious why and how the Jedi and the Force could have been forgotten or construed as just legends, even just a few years after a galaxy wide conflict featuring the Jedi as the primary commanders of one side of the war, especially since Dooku, the separatist head of state was a known former Jedi, giving the entire clone wars an air of Jedi as fighting their own civil war for political gain and drawing the rest of the galaxy into the whole mess. The empire having total control of the media, economy, etc. would have had no problems putting forth the narrative of the Jedi as traitors and even charlatans. With no other prominent Force cults present and the Jedi jealously guarding their own knowledge for millennia, the presumed widespread view of the Force as a vague religious concept would continue and progress into mere myth even without further official encouragement from the Empire’s New Order.

Great explanation; I would also play up what you said about many species having strange abilities. Han's denial of about the nature of the force as this all power force controlling everything. One can see a holovid of a Jedi force pushing a droid and not believe that there is an all knowing energy field that is sentient and can be used to wield all these various powers. It is not unreasonable for people to assume there is this technique that this order has that allows those with stuff in their blood or certain training or maybe a drug or something: to have telekinesis. The nature of the force is what is disputed.

I honestly would love to see more situations with people seeing the few jedi that survived 66 in action. Rebel soldiers in trouble. Surrounded by imperials then Suddenly Luke Skywalker (Return of the jedi timeframe) just leap in, blast back several troops with a force push and begin deflecting blasterfire away from the troops. I do feel like that was a missed opportunity in rebels at times, just to show the sheer shock of someone seeing Kanan and Ezra in action and having them be like “Oh shit a jedi!” (Though not those exact words of course) i felt like for the most part aside from the initial reveal from Kanan most people seemed kinda chill upon seeing a jedi. Though of course some cases are understandable.

EckhartsLadder, I am with you on the explanation of this video. As I see it once Palpatine became the emperor the truth of anything is subject to change under his rule. Add to it that the events of the Clone Wars when the people of the republic were getting tired of the war and those who live far away from the core world most like only heard rumors of rumors is going to create skepticism about the Force and the Jedi. Another thing is the Jedi never did anything to stop and/or prevent such skepticism those make it possible for what Vader would say: "A lack of faith". The secrecy of the Jedi was made it possible for this lack of faith to spread even faster. In fact correct me if I am wrong please, but people in the Mid to Outer Rim don't see the difference between a Jedi and a Sith. I say this cause I am under the impression that during the Empire Era and/or before it people view the Jedi and Sith as the same. Of course I don't include the era of the Sith Wars or more likely the era of the Brotherhood of Darkness.

I think this is one of the things that can only be completely explained by the fact that the series was written over the span of decades. Revenge of the sith, which was about 20 years before a new hope, as well as all of its prequels and prior lore showed the Jedi as not only the warriors of the dominant galactic government, but the only warriors before the clones. They weren’t a myth, they were a documented and well known organization. I would understand if people stopped believing after a few centuries under the reign of the empire, but it had only been 20 years so Jedi weren’t exactly myths that were maybe true, they were just extinct.

SkyNet vs The Flood 277th Attempt Scenario: SkyNet beats the resistance, and then a Flood Banshee crash-lands on Earth, the Flood form inside does not survive, SkyNet retrieves the body and studies it, and learns the basics of it (it is infectious, has some sort of hive mind, and can take memories), SkyNet salvages the ship for whatever is left, and manages to decode transmissions from the late Covenant, alerting them of the Flood threat coming to Earth. SkyNet then prepares for the next 5 years. The Flood will arrive using multiple High Charity's, including its fleet, weapons, and so on. In Scenario 1a, it gets 5 High Charity's, in Scenario 1b, it gets 10 High Charity's, and in Scenario 1c, it gets 15 High Charities. The Flood may not use the Logic Plague on SkyNet. SkyNet may not travel back in time and just constantly give pre-Flood War SkyNet better and better stuff and information. If SkyNet can survive until Scenario 1c then I personally say that it would win, although if that is not enough each scenario could in fact be a wave that SkyNet has to destroy, and each wave would come a month after the wave before it was totally destroyed. This would give the Flood 30 High Charity's in total. This month to prepare would SkyNet the chance to regroup and analyze whatever data it received from the battle, whether it be more efficient ways to kill Flood Forms or even gathering and using/reverse engineering Covenant Technology for its own use.

I know there is tons of videos on this.. but the Order of the Jedi was shrouded in so much mystery that many people outside of the army or the Senate didnt really understand it. It didn't seem like the Jedi were concern with evangelizing the order. It was an exclusive club that didnt really care too much about membership except in times of war.. this was also due to the fact that they fair that inclusivity wòuld dilute the teachings of the order. A lot of people criticize the Jedi's involvement in the war but their ability to do peace building work depended on their power to be legitimatize by the people that they are out to protect.. and the people by default is represented by the Senate. If they didnt do it like this.. they would be seen as tyrants. Their lust to destroy the Sith was what led to their downfall. If they truly worked with the Senate instead of standing on the sidelines.. none of this would have happened.

How microjumps work in the heat of battle: not very well, unless you're using an interdictor to control where your ship comes out of hyperspace, in which case it's a normal jump that gets cut short. Microjumps are pretty inaccurate, though I think the Chiss were a bit better at it than other people.

A better question would be, how did they stop force sensitive children from popping up? No matter how rare the occurence. Or how would they find force sensitive children?
@samueldimmock694
@samueldimmock694 2 года назад
Same way the Jedi found them: a combination of trained Force-sensitives and "medical" tests.

My question is, with how much damage they did to the Republic in the past, how come so few people have even heard of the Sith by the time of the Clone Wars? I mean, the Sith Empire once occupied Alderaan, yet Bail Organa had never even heard of them before AotC. I mean, most RL people with a standard education have at least heard of Babylon and Mesopotamia, despite those cultures dying out thousands of years ago.

It makes sense. The Jedi had be in decline for according to the Phantom Menace novel, for centuries. The Jedi, as stated had become so removed, that they had become more legend than fact. The jedi's extreme dogmatism did not help. The recruiter's basically unlimited authority to take force sensitive younglings from parents could not have helped. As shown in the Clone Wars Cartoon, there was a growing resentment about the Jedi leading the Clone forces (they had no business doing this and should have been present as a advisory capacity, if at all) highlighted by the actions of Barriss Offee. If a small remote faction is declared outlaw than it makes a great deal of sense. To use 2 examples out of history Look at the Knights Templar and Catholics in post break England. Two decades is more than enough time to trash and debunk the Jedi into extinction/irrelevance.

I can see how extraordinary efforts done by people in history can be construed as Mythos . Take for instance to Catholic Church, we know via history that they did / "do " exist but if the church was broken up and the priesthood abolished within just a precious few decades would anybody believe that they oversaw "exorcisms" ??? That's where history becomes a murky area, when provable facts run out what history you're left with is become Legend . However in Hans case Chewbacca was his best friend for almost all of his life ! What did Chewie just not bring up Yoda and the other Jedi ? He fought alongside these guys, of course he saw what they did he would have undoubtedly corrected Han and said, " yo man, I was there, that shit went down " !

Best attempt Ive heard thus far. Though personally, I still don't quite buy it. I can understand someone of Han's age and upbringing being sceptical, but older and better informed beings ought to regard the force and its power as fact.

The Jedi order had a very strange connection to the republic for a religious order, and with the constant wars against the sith it's easy to frame them as a bunch of dogmatic kidnappers that threw the republic into conflicts time and again, and were praised for it. I believe that anti-jedi sentiment was a fairly big thing before the clone wars, and started rising when they created an army of slaves to fight against the separatists. Order 66 was just the cherry on top, proving peoples suspicions that they were up to no good.

You’re wrong that Lucas intended to have the Jedi Purge happen much longer ago. Why does everyone miss that Luke is clearly 19 in ANH? This means his father and the Jedi purge always had to be at least 19 years previous, even back in 1977. The phantom menace helps us understand why the Jedi weren’t really as well known even at their height. The trade federation, the Naboo and people on Tatooine don’t seem that familiar with the Jedi. This is because in a galaxy of trillions of beings a planet, there were only about 10,000 Jedi. Most people would never have seen a Jedi even in their heyday.
@chrissonofpear1384

Well, following on from Episode 5, certainly. Prior that, his intentions may have been a more distant purge. But with Anakin so crucial to it, that locks things in.

Always found this ridiculous. Within a couple of generations, people act like Jedi didn't exist but on modern Earth we know that samurai once existed. More likely Lucas' original idea was the Jedi weren't just wiped out in a single fell swoop but faded out over hundreds of years to just a few. It's especially silly when you have an Imperial officer in A New Hope deny their existence when he would have been alive and well DURING THE CLONE WARS!

@macromicro1715

@@Bustermachine I dont disagree, but it was with the Jedi that the soon to be imperial forces arrived with. It was the Jedis word of protection that failed when they were slaughtered and the Wookie's faced the imperial oppressors. Most certainly not the ending the Jedi would have wanted, but in their position of authority the responsibility lies on them for being unable to foresee this threat when they brought Republic forces into this conflict. The CIS left little choice admittedly, but to the beleaguered populous, who and for what reason their planet burned means very little. Only that it burned, despite the Jedis efforts. That is something I'd imagine Chewbacca would find great pain in discussing. Especially with the compartively infantile in age Solo, who despite being a good friend may not understand the scope of regret a hundred plus year old being can hold after such a tragedy.

@@macromicro1715 well the thing is Han's words I feel is the mysticism behind the force he doubted not the Jedi, with everything that happened during the 20 odd years after order 66 it all may have fallen into legend with many thinking what has been said as exaggeration also the extent of the Jedi involvement on Kashyyyk is unknown, Lucas didn't give much detail.
