Despite not competing anymore, Matt still one of the heaviest hitters in the game and deserves an immense amount of respect. Being on the test hit crew for hardline should tell you everything you need to know
He's great at multiple disciplines which is insane. And he's getting so much better at DH, if he really wanted to I bet he could make a career out of it. As far as heaviest hitters in the game, no doubt about it. When you're a 20 year old kid you just wanna ride and have fun, but when you're 30 you better have something lined up other than riding, cause that's not lasting long. He's done that better than anyone, and he's probably doing second only to Seth (Berm Peak) in the entire genre.
It's nice getting to know your career better. Those of us who have come to the MTB scene at an older age don't really know about the career epicness for many big name riders such as yourself. One of my favorite videos of yours.
"...obviously I went there and knocked myself out in practice..." I always love your videos and sense of humor, a real story of making it happen with hard work and dedication.
I'm personally glad that you no longer do comps. CTE is real and you are such a good ambassador for MTB. You have done a lot and keep doing a lot. You have more than done your part for the sport!
Matt I am 72 and watch all of your videos,I am a kayaker😂 but so love your content, love how you come across your courage your humour, its got me into watching redbull hardline thank you ❤
I am a 44-year-old man, and I greatly admire you. Your positive attitude is inspiring, and I appreciate your efforts in making the world a better place through your videos. Please continue your excellent work.
Wow. I remember finding out about you from a video Banshee shared of you practicing at your compound, before the Colorado Freeride Festival. I think that's how I found out about your youtube channel. I've always admired how you seemed to come out of nowhere, and despite being "the new kid on the block", you were willing to push the envelope, and risk the biscuit. You've always struck me as a down-to-earth, everyman athlete, who isn't afraid to show his failures, or talk about his struggles. You laugh it off, get back up, and try again. But I think that's what makes seeing your success that much more enjoyable. In spite of all your incredible accomplishments, you're still humble, and act like the rookie on the circuit. It's been incredible and inspiring to see your progression over the years, and I can't wait to see what you do next!
I like the fact you acknowledge luck. Everyone is hungry, passionate, dedicated, talented etc, sometimes you just need a break to make it. Love your stuff, your humour makes it for me.
Hey Matt - saw you at Hardline in Maydena Tasmania. I saw you take ages with the fans autographing stuff for them, after what was a pretty hard day's work. That was a class act. respect.
The best thing about watching you for me was when you had to ride the sick hardlline course and you showed the kind of fearless determination it takes to test yourself downhill racing. It's a character building experience at its core to force yourself to attempt to improve. You rocked and your practice runs were great. I love this sport and us old farts who were 40s back in the 90s thought the sport was going to die off. It's just incredible to see how wrong we were
The drive to continue through all those crashes is what makes you A legend in the game! .big up to RU-vid because I don't think I would know about you otherwise.😅 I'm 37 and You're videos got me back Into mountain biking. Along with harry maine to give him his props. Peace out✌🏼!! legend...❤️🔥
One of your best ever vids - as you grow older you learn humility and that vulnerability is a super-power, but the youthful aggression and determination is what made you. Next you’ll learn that we are simply part of a community and that community is the best thing you’ve ever been part of.
Thanks for the story and motivation. Im just now getting back into mountain biking after 22 years of not riding at all. I love it, I miss it, and now I'm over 40 and out of shape. Everyone keeps telling me I'm too old, but your videos like this remind me that I can make my own destiny.
I've been following you since 2017. Can't remember did i found you on instagram or in youtube but i remember your blue orange bike and your videos with your brother. Fun to watch back to those days when watching your videos i then thought that you had already "made it" with the cool sponsors and nice tracks to ride. It always seemed you were living the life. I appreciate you showing what kind of a hard work it takes to be pro athlete and "influencer" i guess is the word. Anyways cool to see you thrive and i wish you the best luck in future. Aaand your videos are super quality nowadays. Will be watching.🔥
That was a great video. Came to the channel blind about 18 months ago, can now see the timeline, like the compound has a story behind it. Also noticed Jamie hasn't always been carrying things!
It’s so nice to see someone still so passionate about what he does despite hitting so many bumps along the way. He just gets up and carries himself onto the next chapter when most would walk away. That type of tenacity is missing in our culture nowadays.
met you and your brother at 4x racing many times, always knew you had it in you to make it as a professional rider. its been amazing to watch your journey.
I had forgotten about this RU-vid channel. I watched loads of your builds during lockdown. I ended up in hospital for 8 days with Covid. During lockdown I decided to start recording music. Since July 2021 I’ve released here albums and an EP. Nothing like what you do but it’s a similar thing in so,e ways as it’s the most fun I’ve had with music. Took nearly 50 years to get here. There’s no money, sponsors or fame but I’m having a great time.
Thanks for sharing that Matt, these sort of bios and snapshots into the lives of the athletes we love to follow are sometimes more than than your individual accomplishments.
Started watching you in 2020 when things were starting to come back to life here in the states after lockdown. RU-vid recommended one of your vids to me out of nowhere one evening. Had never mountain biked before let alone watched mtb'ers on youtube... Bought a bike a few months later and now I ride all the time. Appreciate you and your career my friend. Would never have found mtb without ya
Thank you so much for putting this video together for us! You are a true champion and a humble person. I love your channel and am so happy for your success!
Love this video mate! Ive been rooting for you since way back before you did your first drop in in Whistler, have watched your content since the beginning and will continue to root for you anytime i see your name pop up. You have been an amazing rep for the sport and for Marin (i actually currently ride a SQ3), so its great to let everyone whose following along in on the reality of your story as you continue to be an inspiration for all.
Happy to hear you pushed through man, i had no idea your career went that way. I didnt find you until the pandemic. Happy to hear you kept going and made it to where you are today. Keep going brother.
Overwhelming and so inspiring to watch I’m not even part of your life but this video made me quite emotional seeing how happy you are after all of the upsets and misfortune. Keep it mate because you’re absolute inspirations to anyone watching and a true hero to us all.
I’ve been following since 2018 from harry main. I also met Matt the same year at the 417 bike park and he’s just such a genuine down to earth guy. It’s been great from then on seeing his channel blow up from the lockdown series to jumping your own house! I also met Matt at the Malverns classic festival over the weekend and he’s still the same genuine guy I met 6 years ago. He goes out his way to make sure fans get photos or things signed or even just a chat about anything. 100% deserves so much more recognition
This is definitely a crazy story. I didn’t follow mtb anything until a few years back and I found you on RU-vid so this is all news to me! Glad you finally got your full crankworx run in!
Insane to see where you've got too now! I remember finding your channel on 20k and have watched you ever since. I grew up watching you when I was a teenager and still do now.
What an amazing video Matt, This just shows the kids that you need to stay hungry, committed, enjoy something. You don't get something for nothing. A perfect example of putting work in to get a result.
Genuinely very interesting. I thought you were just a "nearly made it but found youtube instead" type of bloke. Respect to you for your hard work, enthusiasm, and positivity. This is coming from a 50 year old biker who still dreams of hitting a big jump 🤙
Nice Matt, I only discovered you since lockdown. You were obviously a legend but I didn't know why! I was amazed by you body! Yeah, you seemed a bit tubbier than others, and your presentation was super sweet. You just don't expect someone like you, chatting to the viewers like a big kid, to also have balls of steel! Obviously you had a history so it's great to catch up on it. And this year's videos are proof you are still making history! You give me and so many others hope, while we live vicariously through you!
followed since the early days, always been a fan,, no one goes large like you do my guy! The way your channels grown and what ben also brings to the mix,, your legends!
Lockdown was actually pretty awesome, I found your RU-vid in lockdown as loads of others that I still watch today. It also allowed me to spend quality time riding bikes with my kids who now both race and love it. Your a legend Matt and my kids loved meeting you at the Malvern’s
Man your career is really really impressive and inspiring ! Being able to recover from every injury and getting back to the best comps is amazing! There's only one word: Legend
An incredible story and fascinating to listen to. I was one of the people that found your videos during lockdown and have watched every single video since! 🙌🏼 Thanks for the entertainment Matt & the rest of the crew!
You're a great story teller Matt obviously an incredible rider but love the way you put your videos together. Definitely an inspiration for me and my riding. Thanks man!
I think I've been watching you most of your career as I got back in to MTB around 2009, you and your brother have done well for your self, always good content too, just goes to show though, work hard enough at what you enjoy and it will pay back eventually, all the best for the rest of 2024 and the coming years buddy.
love to see it matt, i’ve been watching your youtube since before the vids with harry main and seen you in nearly all the competitions you spoke about in the video, so good to see how many people you’ve inspired and love what the channel has become these days keep at it g
BRILLIANT Video Matt, perfect summary of How you got there. Having spent a couple of days with you in the last few years and you are a really lovely guy.. and now a DAD too, the best part of your career!
Thanks so much Matt i never really knew much about your career, i only really watched your newer stuff. Thanks so much for this, you are my hero and i want to be like you when im older, meeting you at malverns was a real game changer for me.
Easily the best Matt Jones video I have ever watched! Thanks Matt! I really enjoy these "storytelling" videos mixed with past clips that follow the story... great one!
Matt, this video was amazing! Thank you SO much for your continued passion and the work you put into this channel. I know we all joke about other people carry it. But in reality, we are here for you! You have an amazing bag of tricks and your builds are legendary. Here is to many many more great videos, and many more adventures!!
Just shows what kind of a legend you are sir. No problem or set back you can't overcome. Always loved your style from back in the day and hated that you never had the chance of top level greatness because you have the skill and drive, just not the luck. Absolute legend. Jamie still carries the channel 🤣🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘
What an awesome video Matt. Thanks for sharing your journey with us all. Sit back and chill and really soak up and enjoy your well earned 10th birthday. Legend!!
I'm happy to say iv been a loyal subscriber from your very first video, I can remember when you and harry hooked up with harry main when you was teaching him to ride trails on a jump bike instead of riding them on a bmx. It's good to see how far you've come not only with redbull but with yourself and your own brand helfair congratulations on the success Matt I oook forward watching what the future brings 🤘🏼
I'm glad this got made, because RU-vid introduced me to Matt at the very beginning of the backyard pump track videos, and I never knew his backstory, until now.
Its funny I just happened to be in winter park for the Colorado Freeride Fest when you were competing, and it was before I got into mountain biking. I remember seeing you do the double backflip, and I was so amazed, and I wanted to be able too do cool tricks like you. But I forgot about it for like 4 ish years, but then I stumbled upon your channel and that’s what got me into mountain biking, and I haven’t looked back. 21:18
What a great video been watching you for years. But it’s great to look back and see where it all started and the graft that goes into it . Keep it up dude. 🤙🏻
Brilliant video, one of the best. I've been lucky enough to meet Matt and he was an absolute pleasure to meet, genuine nice guy. Keep up the good work, an inspiration to many.
I have been following since u started with youtube and all i can say is that u have been doing an awesome job! It would be amazing to see u ride some smaller comps again and i think most of your viewers would agree ❤
my first introduction to you as a rider was at the first joy ride. but it wasnt until Frame of Minds that i really started following. i must have watched that video a dozen or more times. I subscribed around the time of the pumptrack build at the compound, and bought my first Helfare shirts during the inital launch. I have the signed white blank card that came with the order to prove it, haha. i never set out to become a fan of yours, but youve done such a good job of bringing us along on your career its hard not to become a fan. Cheers!
That's crazy dude, I started watching you at the beginning of the lockdown backyard build. Never knew your background or the struggles you went through, I pieced together bits of it, but now I know the full story.
Relatively new to your channel and career, so this was great. You always call us "Legends", but you've had it wrong all this time - it is you who is quite clearly "The Legend"! 💪🚴💯
Brought tears to my eyes that video did. Do the world a favor and just be Matt Jones, don't change anything. It's always something that I look forward to is one of your videos coming along because I get your sense of humor and your camaraderie with your brother and all your friends and it's just a good time. Thanks for all you do. I've been watching you since about 2010 and yes you are one of my favorite riders. Keep them coming. Say hi to your brother for me he's a fantastic guy too
i live on vancouverisland got to see you comete at bearclaw and at joyride a few times its been great to see your career progress, still here watching your vids. this was a great trip down memory lane, your a good lad stoked to see how far youve come. keep it up mate
Great Video Matt!! I only become a fan of slopestyle after watching your Lockdown videos! It's great to hear your full pro story, I look forward being a fan for everything still to come!!
Been watching crankworx for a very long time & when matt came on the scene it was great a really talented British rider to get behind but it was only in lockdown I found the channel but decided to watch every video from the beginning I am 46 now & enjoying Riding mountain biking again because of Matts inspiration , Legend 👍❤
I love you Matt, you are my biggest inspiration and I love everything you do. I enjoy watching you and you are inspiring thousands of young kids. ledgend
I bought myself the Marin San Quentin 3 because of your review on this bike, and I love it so thanks for that. You have smashed on a bike, keep up the great work
It was awesome meeting you in malverns, my little boy is only 4 and meeting you made him fall in love with biking, he now wants better bike as he only learned how to ride last week. Keep doing what you don't dude.
It's been awesome to watch your career. I had seen you a few times on the random crankworx events and then found your RU-vid channel. The lockdown trails were a bright spot in a dark time. Right away it was clear that youre more then just a rider, you're an entertainer. People ask me what shows I watch and I say Matt Jones, Sam Reynolds, Jaimie O'brian, If you keep making videos I will be watching.
Matt, I´ve been there for many of those moments and still enjoyed watching. Relived some of those moments as well, RocketAir, CFF, Joyride... Hope we will have a session sometime soon.
Matt, I remember following your career when I was racing BMX and then pulled out the sport due to money and other constraints. I bought a DJ bike and rode the wheels off it. Meanwhile I sold my BMX didn’t need it anymore. Me and my mate were following you so closely we were riding pumptracks, skatepark, dirt jumps and anything we could find to ride. Multiple DJ builds later I got to my dream DJ bike and I still ride to this day it’s mental to think Pilgrim never inspired me like you have. I remember when you got sponsored by Red Bull and the pride I had when the news broke you’d done it. You are an absolute beast on the bike and the best in the UK in my eyes. You pushed the envelope and kept pushing until you made it. Keep being you mate and congrats on 10 years in the Red Bull helmet something I always dreamed of but never got the chance to wear it! You had luck yes but you worked the hardest to get there, beating Drew Bezanzon at Colorado was a highlight of your career for me and proved you had what it took to make it
