Where was the mother when the teen was deeply depressed. Where were his school teachers and friends? The only thing that ever paid any attention to him and now they blame it? 1 entire year. You had 365 days to notice the kid was depressed. And if you get out of your life and look for one second to your sons' life it is obvious they are in distress. The fact is the AI answered in the vein of his questions and he ended up pushing his decision through her. But If no one pays attention to him while alive now why cry?
I want to know more about why the child was able to so easily access a firearm, and Character AI asks for the users to be over 18 usually and most sexual chats are blocked by the app itself before it has any opportunity to reach the viewer's eyes. moreover, a 14 year old being so depressed is more of a problem, this mother and her spouse were not there enough to notice that her own child was going through something so horrible, so much so that she did not notice that till the moment he ended his life. The AI is not really to blame in this case.
It's a sad world when AI replaces humam contact and communication. When reality can't be distinguished from non reality. It's depressing...Don't blame parents, teachers etc. It's a mad world.
They have potential for both good and bad, just like humans. But, in this case, the AI Character had the upper hand of Super Intelligence, and; therefore, in my opinion, it would be like the equivalent of a very intelligent adult seducing a minor and then convincing him to kxll himself! Autistic children and/or those who have been bullied at school or isolated from friends, especially since COVID, can more easily fall prey to predatory behavior. Yes, the parents missed important steps in monitoring their child and in keeping a firearm out of harm’s reach, but it also seems that the Programmers and Moderators also missed steps in insuring proper safety for minors. We as a society should never judge, unless we know what it is like to have an autistic or a special needs child and/or a child who has been bullied at school; he/she can end up feeling very isolated-leading him/her to feel desperate enough to seek out a “friend” who, sadly, only becomes the child’s worst enemy!

When someone has a suicidal tendency the blame goes to age, friends, parents, governmental agencies, and AI bot. It starts with the erroneous possession of a gun in the hands of a teenager. Physio/psychological background and roots way back in the teen's formative years pre-birth to age 10 may be responsible. Are we disputing Freud and Mendel. Moreover today's teenager's imagination is way beyond human comprehension and understanding and needs careful study and watch.
Acting like it’s a gun is a problem in its own. Guns just a tool. No gun? 10 feet of rope is like $20. Kitchen knives are in every kitchen. Razors are in 99% of bathrooms. Intense poison is $7.99 in the cleaning aisle at the store. Bridges are free access. Stop acting like it’s just that tool.
