the biggest problem of cs2 was that it was overhyped and seen as something big, we could've just gotten a simple source 2 port but they decided to make a new game. and another reason was because valve didn't wanted to work with a 20 year old game engine
@CodyCapone
@CodyCapone 3 месяца назад
True, along with the fact that they didn't give themselves enough time I would've been fine with waiting for a more finished product if they had just delayed the release and we could've had the opportunity as a community to have more of an impact on the finished product.
@Starkus23
@Starkus23 3 месяца назад
I don't think we could have gotten a "simple source 2 port". It was either build the entire game again from the ground up, or nothing. Many people forget that Valve did not actually make CS:GO. Hidden Path did, it was outsourced to this relatively small developer and Valve most likely never expected the game to keep going for 11+ years. Valve only took over maintaining the game at some point into its lifespan. And there were rumours in the past that Valve didn't really know or understand the entire code of the game (because they hadn't made it) and whenever they would try to ship an update or change something, completely different mechanics would just break and nobody would know why. So even if they tried to ship updates and new features, they would be very, very limited in what they could do, without accidentally breaking stuff. The game really was the definition of the term "spaghetti code". I think this was actually the main reason for why they made CS2. They made it so that they could have a much cleaner and organised code to work with in the future. It was an investment in the ability to maintain CS.

I think a lot of people misunderstand this, sure csgo was stable and good, but it was being patched with code constantly. It was basically breaking a piece of wood and then glueing it back together constantly in a circle in terms of writing the code for cs. That's why it was hard to update. (Also doesn't help that csgo was made for controller originally as a basis)
@CodyCapone

I have been made aware of this, but some of my points still stand. All we wanted as a community was 128 tick and better hit reg. That's all we wanted, but instead, we got a piece of polished shit with glitter on it. Valve knew we wanted better tickrate, and decided that peekers advantage should all of the sudden become much worse. CS being ported to source 2 was probably a hell of a big improvement to quality of life for the Valve devs, but they stripped us of ours, when it wasn't even a necessary exchange. They decided to give us things that really didn't change much and called it a day.

The money they make off of skins would, as was proven from the cs2 skins bubble, would rise and the money valve would make from steams 12% take off steam market sales would go up, along with A LOT of press from announcing and releasing cs2. They made plenty of money from this. I understand though, doesn't seem like greed at first, but when you dig deeper, there's plenty of evidence of the egregious amount of money this made them.

Valve also made USD13 billion in 2022 with that being the fancial year that would influnce the annocement of cs 2. THIS. I got my PC in 2016 and it had always been running csgo fine. In fact, I had 2.5k hours in it right before cs2 officially launched but when I tried cs2, it was unbearably laggy and the movement just felt off. Lowered the graphics n tried everything but nothing seemed to work. I legit don't understand why cs2 needed to be released when majority of the game is just a graphics overhaul of csgo. @@CodyCapone Valve takes a very long time doing things, just look at how long it took them to make another Half Life game.
@CodyCapone
@CodyCapone 3 месяца назад
They haven't made a half life game because they don't have a good enough story for it, they don't want to just push a lacking story in a very story-based franchise. Both games were also ground-breaking in their own right, and they made Alyx because VR was pretty ground-breaking at the time. We, as PC gamers, are incredibly spoiled, entitled and difficult, if not impossible to satisfy. They want to make a game worth making to conclude the Half-Life series, and an pretty on-par game for today wouldn't satisfy us due to the other 2 games having changed the game in the way they did. Dota 2 was immediately ported onto Source 2. But it took almost a decade to make CS-2? Nah, this was a new development, and if they had taken that long to do it, it wouldn't have been as bad as it is. They realised that the spaghetti code that was in GO wasn't stable anymore for the things they wanted to do in future updates. This was a spur of the moment decision and they made the mistake of giving us a release date too early, giving us the mess we have today, instead of delaying the game to potentially upset the player base.

There were deep rooted flaws in not just the csgo code but the engine itself that were only exasperated by the code leaks thay happened a few years ago. There were many aspects of the game that were collecting dust and idiosyncracies eg hammer editor, source film maker, and various aspects of game code. This made it difficult for valve to continue development of the game. The game was rushed by hidden path entertainment in 2012 and was built upon many layers with works from many developers with different ways to handle things. TLDR: even though csgo was functional the backend was a bandaid upon bandaid fix mess of many years.

the game engine was pretty limiting, thats kinda it, think about all the possibilites we got now (if valve ever gets around to working on new stuff) seen some cool shit on some community maps that couldnt have ever been done in csgo, just gotta have some patience (also the anger over the anti cheat issue shouldnt be geared 100% towards valve, theyre just as much a victim as we are, people should be way more mad at the cheaters/cheat devs, it wouldnt be a problem if they didnt exist)
@CodyCapone
@CodyCapone 3 месяца назад
If people find a way to get a leg up on the competition, they will. Increasing the odds of a win is something everyone wants to do, some do it honourably, some don't. Cheating in sports has been a thing for decades. The anger towards valve's anticheat was mostly brought by the fact that they forgot to turn on trust factor for a couple of weeks. Flooding the game with cheaters without anyone getting banned. And as for them being able to fix the problems, Valve seem to be updating the game, but not really for the things we want. Changing maps for the worse (Vertigo being a blatant example) and giving us more 'nice to have' features like the utility crosshair. It's been a year and most of the issues the community has been asking about fixes for have seemed to just be overlooked by valve.
@lvlwowable

Why did they make it? What is the main complaint from people playing bathesda games? Outdated game engine. Valve did not make the csgo engine and this is a huge problem. We now have a new engine wich can be improved on and the code is something valve now understands from a fundimental level. CS2 has its problems but the people who want to just continue with csgo eternally are short sighted, delay cs2 release 100% but continue with csgo absolutely not!
@CodyCapone
@CodyCapone 3 месяца назад
Valve most certainly made source (the engine csgo was using). Don't know where you got that information. I never said source 2 was a bad thing. I said their usage of the port wasn't optimal to the type of game they were making. A tactical shooter doesn't require good looking, bright and pretty graphics. The main issue I bring up in the video is that we were pretty much given a better looking, worse product. This isn't COD, this is counter strike, where people play competitively, even on a professional level. The game running smoothly was the thing we wanted most. The graphics aren't a bad thing, it's a 'nice to have', not a necessity.
@IBradFrazer
@IBradFrazer 3 месяца назад
CS:GO was great, but it was long past its prime. It was painfully in need of an upgrade graphically way back in 2019 never mind 2023. The gameplay got rather stale even after 3,000 hours for me. The only reason I continued playing was the simplicity of the game, which is a privilege nowadays because every shooter has so much plastered on the screen you have to overdose on Adderall just to read it all. I think Valve could have done a much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much better job at porting the game over, and did more to protect the unofficial game modes. The game simply wasn't ready in any way, shape or form, but Valve couldn't not release it because they wouldn't be able to make future content for CS2 while the game is still GO. There are still so many things broken in the game, and the cheating epidemic is only getting worse. What's it been, like, 1,000+ days since the last operation? Also, a lot of skins are still broken, and they seem to randomly change them several months down the line, which makes buying high-tier skins a gamble, and is slowly choking the market. It also doesn't help that they release an update every few weeks that has maybe 5 lines of fixes/changes that end up breaking 8 more things. And don't even get me started on that whole subtick bullshit. It was a fancy way of not giving players 128tick servers, and removing FACEIT's ability to run their servers at 128tick was all to get players to stop asking about it. It really feels like we're going backwards, not forwards.

while yes, on the surface it seems to look like that, the old game was old and we wanted something better, we didn't get something better, we got something the merely looked better, but mechanically was a step down from what we had. I'm aware of that, what's your point? I'm aware that csgo was a mess in the coding department and needed to be updated to source 2 as a quality of life improvement for the Valve devs, the problems with the game on the consumer side is the fact that they leaned more heavily on the graphics department, which for a tactical shooter is a side quest compared to what we really want from cs, we played a drab, dead looking game for years, our problem wasn't the graphics. We didn't really want those. Would they be nice? Sure, but we just want to play the game we had been for over a decade now without as many issues. Which source 2 could've most certainly fixed and should've, but really didn't, as well as subtick being an absolute dogshit system to lean on, which brings more problems to the game such as peekers advantage being a significantly larger issue than in csgo. We wanted 128 tick, but instead, we're given a pile of polished horseshit with glitter on it.
