I bought my '18 Yamaha V Star 250 Lowrider Custom Cruiser in Raven Black metallic 2 years ago at 66. It's also the only V-Twin in it's class! A SOHC motor as well. It fits me like a glove at my age (68 now). At 326lbs wet, it's more manageable than a Sportster @ 583lbs wet. It looks like a mid-80's Sportster, which it was designed to compete with. I had both hips replaced, so I can walk without canes or walkers now. So, my balance is better to ride it finally. I can flat-foot it, and my arms are bent at the elbow properly to be comfortable riding it. I'm also modding it to fix what I think is wrong with these bikes. I have some videos on here featuring the bike, including a roll-out.

Very nice. Sounds like that V Star fits quite perfectly. An that 326lbs wet weight makes it even better 🙂🏍️👍

I bought my '78 Suzuki GS750E over 30 years ago. I was looking for a complete not laid down or wrecked at least a 750. I found this thing it was complete and of course not running, but had killer compression. It is a comfortable easy to ride and plenty of power. And now you just do not see these old bikes on the road anymore. And I have the original Vetter fairing in the bikes color for it. It is all original and ready for the road once again.

Wow 46 year old bike. I agree you don’t see many of those old bikes anymore especially ones without any previous damage or issues. Good to hear it’s still ready for the road 🙂🏍️👍

I mucked around riding 250s for years, thinking it was all I’d be able to handle. I got a 750 Shadow for a bit and it really inspired me to stop short changing myself. So I went and got a 2006 Honda Blackbird. I have always adored them, admired them from afar. But honestly, it was the best step. I decided it was time to own my hero and I have no regrets. I don’t ride it like I won’t to lose my licence - but for what it is, it’s an absolutely pleasure. I decided to own my hero for once. It’s not like it was an expensive bike, it’s easy to maintain, insure and ride. I am thrilled every time I ride it. It’s not even as terrible on gas as I had initially thought either. I think it’s often over looked for faster bikes - but it’s all the bike I ever need. I finally let the heart win over the head bike wise.

Awesome story my friend. Glad to hear you got the bike you’ve had your eye on for awhile. Those Blackbirds were a quick machine for its day and I’m sure still is today too. Keep enjoying it and ride safe 😎🏍️👍

Honda Shadow as a started and decided to keep it after all these years. I'll always love a black bike and the less chrome the better for me. I'll stick with it until there's a good reason to upgrade and spend a bunch of money. Riding is just plain old fun! Nice topic

I had a 19 bobber and sold it in 21 and bought a Indian Vintage Dark Horse, well here in 24 I really miss the bobber, the styling, color, and ease of just getting on it and riding, I use it for a commuter bike, I still have the Vintage and use that for road trips. Plus I like the brand, has not disappointed me yet. I started out on HD but they seem to have strayed away from what I like in a company, so I tried Indian and have no regrets.

Very cool it’s nice to have multiple bikes for multiple options when you want to ride one for longer road trips or one to just commute around around town. Best of both worlds. 🙂🏍️👍

I had a Honda Rebel for my first bike. I had it about a year and saw the Scout online. Immediately I loved the look of the retro styling and the Indian brand intrigued me. Went and looked at it and knew right away I wanted it. Call it what you will. I “had to have it”. Although there are things like you mention the cruise control thing is an easy fix with an Atlas or Go Cruise. When the time comes I will be looking at Indian first. Springfield DH or Chieftain have caught my eye but I still have plenty of ride left for the Scout!!

just looked at the type of riding I do and the options that the ryker has. Cruise control has been great when I can use it. The ease of working on it is a huge plus too. If I start doing more roadtrips I'll probably need something bigger though.

WR250R (yes, the one in my profile picture) Wanted a dual sport that I initially used for only off road. My riding buddy had one for the same purpose, and he liked it. Considering he has decades more experience than me, I followed his judgment. He did not lead me astray. Now, I use it as road bike with sumo wheels. It’s a blast, but I’m thinking of adding a more powerful street bike to the collection. Don’t know how much longer I’ll have that WR. For dirt, I went back to my 2 stroke roots (first bike was a yz125) and found a plated yz250x in my state. Needless to say, it’s a lot more enjoyable off road, but it’s horrible on road for the short stretches I do to get to the trail. Still, I wouldn’t trade it for a thing. I plan to keep that bike for a long time.
@TechNickRides
@TechNickRides 5 месяцев назад
Having a dual sport gives you the best of both worlds a little bit of on road and off. 🙂🏍️👍 Never rode a 2 stroke although I do recall a few friends of mine back in the day having a few of them. That 2 stroke powerband is no joke. 🏍️💨😮

I’ve been through about 15 different bikes from ADV to sport bikes to nakeds to baggers. In the end I finally settled down on the Harley Low Rider S. It’s probably the best bike Harley makes right now with an excellent combo of power, handling and comfort. The new 2024 baggers are nice too but you really need to go with the ST versions ($$$$$$!!) to get the full effect.

I've had about 9 motorcycles. All kinds. Harleys, a crotch rocket, Honda cruisers, and now a Spyder RT Limited. I loved my Valkyrie Interstate, then the Harley Ultra Classic. But, due to back surgeries, I couldn't push the big bikes around any more. So I went to a Harley Tri-Glide. Loved it, but about a year ago was looking for anything that might be even more comfortable but powerful and fun to ride. I went to a Spyder RT Limited and just love it. I've done a few videos on Tri-Glide versus Spyder RT so feel free anyone to check them out on my channel. I guess the final answer to your question, is that I've picked my motorcycles over the years based primarily on big touring bike and trip capabilities, and then more recently on comfort and what could keep me riding despite back surgeries. Good video and topic. Ride safe!

I went from driving cars to riding bikes to flee from the headaches of car maintenance and improvements. so I picked the opposite of cars: carbed, tubed, air cooled, etc with a chinese bike. and 5000 miles later have been loving it. Idk if bikes that share features with cars are still less headaches, but just from my experience hunting down issues with coolant or engine lights, simplicity has been way less of a headache. my next bike i want basically the same thing, but capability of comfortably cruising at ~70 mph, and tubeless tires. As far as i can tell, the only non chinese bike left in this niche is the vstar 250, so ill settle for tubeless, and that will probably be my next bike.

Very nice, a lot of bikes out there can be very basic when it comes to routine maintenance. Lot less than cars maintenance. Especially modern ones today. An yeah I think it’s just something about working on a machine that your riding on unprotected from the elements with just two wheels touching the ground. 🙂🏍️👍

2023 Lifan KPM200 - I am a beginner - I did quite a bit of research on what would be a good fit for me @ 54years old. Last time I was on 2 wheels was in the 1980s a Suzuki FA50. I was 16. I really wanted the most basic feeling and build the basics and go upgrade from there. I only discovered it when I was dealer hoping and sat on one - and I sat on everything. It spoke to me like that FA50 @ . ASLO - do I even like it anymore? Well - I beyond love it. IT was on only $2700 shipped to my door and I could put it together myself. SOLD. My next rid? - possibly Husky Svartpilen 401.

Man, I got my Street Glide because I wanted it. It had everything on it I wanted [or thought I wanted]. If I had to do it all over again, I would've bought a Limited and been done with it, LOL. In the long run, I think it's cheaper and easier to buy the bike with all the stuff you think you'll need on it, versus adding all the baubles to the cheaper one.
@TechNickRides
@TechNickRides 5 месяцев назад
That’s a very good point. Certain additional accessories can add up pretty quickly with cost and labor, versus getting the bike from the beginning with all those already on the bike.

I like that advice “go make mistakes!” , your father left you with some great advice. 🙂👍I think we’re all a little risk takers when it comes to two wheels. Royal Enfield has really been coming up in the market. They make some really nice bikes. Haven’t got a chance to demo any of them, but I’m sure either one would make a fun two wheel machine. Either choice have fun and stay safe out there. 🙂🏍️👍

The riding experience. I don't like the way harley's turn. I wanted something that would do okay on dirt roads. Moved up from a 73 360 enduro. I wanted more power and more of a street bike. Went with a Buell Ulysses. It's not new and won't be broken hearted if I drop it or lay it down. I also looked at RZ 500 LC and Fxrp. The Rz 500 should be well kept as it is a rare bike. I don't have the time or garage to keep a RZ only a shed that has to fit 3 motorcycles in it. The fxrp is a great cruiser and handled better than most harley's I have rode. My test ride on Buell was on dirt roads. Somethings I don't like about it are seat height. I am 6 foot tall and seat is a little tall and the headlights. Waiting for auxiliary lights to arrive. Would like to test drive a pan American. The ktm 690 wasn't as powerful as I thought it would be and seat height again. I would prefer an American made motorcycle.
@TechNickRides
@TechNickRides 5 месяцев назад
100% agree with you there if the riding experience it takes away the overall enjoyment. Sounds like you’re looking into many options and have many past options on riding several other bikes before. I have not test rode a KTM or HD Pan America. Now those being in the line of ADV bikes seem like they would make great choices for taller riders. The Triumph Tiger 900 I demoed was a great bike, from what I read the 1200 model of that is also a good option. I think either choice on what you decide will give you a great riding experience when you picked the bike for you. 🙂🏍️👍

My middle son has a customized Softail custom. Beautiful bike! But, since I hadn't ridden in 50 years, the V Star 250 LCC at 326lbs was a good choice at my age. I bought mine because I wanted a cruiser and refused to buy a Harley. Harley Davidson is the Apple of the motorcycle world - you're buying an overpriced name, nothing more. My main focus was reliability. Harley has a tendency to suffer from varying issues. From oil leaks, to poor electrical. I actually wanted a bike that worked out of the box. Now this 2014 Yamaha Star Bolt R-Spec is my modified Frankenstein baby and I love her dearly.

@@TechNickRides Thank you. And that's what not a lot of new riders understand. A lot of the enjoyment is making the bike your own.
