If a guy that was setting up a new shop was building this table, I would recommend that he incorporate a router lift into it. I would also suggest changing the top to incorporate a downdraft table. But the way you built it...man I am in love. Beautiful project.

This is a very nice design, well thought out. I did something similar to my 40x90 workbench, breaking into 3 pieces so I could CNC whatever type of top I want (dogs, t-track, combo, etc.) One recommendation is to give access to the top t-slot of your extrusions. The Kreg Automaxx clamps fit and they are brilliant for top or side clamping, quickly and easily. They were a game changer when I added extrusion to all 4 sides of my bench. I hardly use my Festool clamps anymore.
@MWAWoodworks

That's true although I don't have those clamps... yet 🤣

Awesome build! One suggestion - if you didn't want the T tracks on the sides to protrude - just bore 1" holes on either end of the t track before installing it, it works great and you don't snag anything on the edges!

Excellent build. I like the setup and all of the storage space you have. Your narration also makes it simple and easy to understand what steps you use. I agree with one of the other comments that edge banding after the Formica is easier and more accurate. After all is said and done, what do you think the total cost of building a table like this would be? What is the total size of the table. I have a single car garage that I'm getting setup and, to be honest, I did it out of construction lumbar and rough plywood covered with Formica bc of the cost. Looking forward to watching some of your other vidoes as well.

I built one, (not quite as fancy as I have a limited budget) Bought a solid core exterior door 36" x 80" for top, utilized some re-purposed 4x4's (from neighbors' fence) and made a cantilevered shelf on one end for my old craftsman tablesaw, large hole in shelf with garbage bag (one end cut off) as a sawdust chute into shop built wooden box on castors to catch sawdust. End vice, storage drawers x 4, shelves for tools i seldom use Glue & tape rack & clamp storage- Tyler (I wish you tube would allow posting of pictures)

@@MWAWoodworks I need to use a block of wood if I want to use a hold-fast, because they’ll whack the little 1/4” ply if whatever I’m holding is thin, but that’s a small compromise. I just screwed thin plywood rails at a slight incline onto the front and back apron, slid the plywood in, then held it in with blue tape. So if I drop something in there (and can’t get it with a magnet), I can take the tape off and fish it out. Or fish it thru the dust port. Even if you have a shop vac on a random orbit sander, it’s nice to have that to really get the dust flowing away from your face! I just disconnect the hose and use it for my router table or drum sander. Super handy.

theres so many little things with these tables that i think people notice after the fact like what happens when something falls thru the hole? how do you retrieve it. Also when dust falls in there, how do you clean it up? i think a table that addresses this and the other little things would make an ultimate table. I know dennis from hookd on wood addressed this issue and well thought out. Cant wait to make mine. great video still

A small 1/4 hardboard sloped towards the sides of your table under the tabletop can allow most of the dust fall towards the sides but shield things underneath.

The edge banding with the maple after applying the top is probably better. The maple takes the brunt of the damage from things banging into the side and prevents the Formica from getting those ugly chips.

This is great, and I plan to build this or something very close to it very soon. Thanks! One question though. I too like the idea of dogholes in the laminated top, however I do not have a CNC. What would you recommend as the cleanest way to bore these dogholes without getting tearout in the laminate?

There's a link in the description for a product called the parf guide system for creating mft style tops by hand (with a drill)

Nice build. I can see several influences incorporated which is my favorite way to build anything. Are you still able to source BB? It’s getting really scarce in my area.

It's getting real hard to get actually BB. Shipments come in and are sold out asap. Have to get lucky and call ahead for information sometimes

Great job and a great video. I'm curious though...approximately how long did it take you to make this? Thanks!

I really like the workbench you built. So much so, I am looking at purchasing the plans. I do have one question though. How are you mitigating the dust, glue, and other debris that falls into the dog holes from getting into the drawers?

I dont do anything to mitigate it. I'f I'm doing a really messy glueup I have silicone mats that I put on the table. Every once in a while I vacuum out the upper drawer, maybe once every 6 months

Awesome video and table! I purchased the plans from your site and plan to build your table for my shop. Question, what millimeter settings do you use on your Festool to get the 3/4 insets for the aprons on the legs?
@MWAWoodworks
@MWAWoodworks Год назад
Don't remember exactly but what I did was measure my plywood in mm with a pair of digital calipers and then added half the thickness of my apron (1/2") which should get you around 30 or 31 mm. Variance in plywood thickness will be the determining factor

Thank you for the info and help! Do you remember what size and length dominoes you used?

How about routing grooves in between the dog holes for track clamps? Gives you other options for holding down your workpieces. Something similar to the new track clamp work bench Woodpecker came out with.

You could do that. Probably reduce the number of dog holes otherwise there won't be much actaul table top left lol

How well does a 3/4” top function for dog holes? Is it thick enough to hold clamps in the holes?
