Even more ironically, the Jedi throughout TCW series do more morally bankrupted things than any of the clones and they still don't reflect on it. They would've been Order 66'd with or without Palpatine.

I think that, in some ways, the Jedi were viewed in the same light at the end of TCW that police in the US are starting to be looked at with. In today’s world where it’s so easy to take a video and share it with the world, police are getting caught committing unethical/immoral/illegal acts much more often. It’s not like they all of a sudden all started acting that way, it’s just so much easier to catch the ones that are gonna commit those acts and put them in the public spotlight. The Jedi always did things that were morally bankrupt. Not all of them did, but many did. And their organization was dogmatic to the point that those actions were considered acceptable - or even encouraged. The Clone Wars merely put them under near constant public spotlight and made it much harder for them to get away with it. By the end of the war, I’d say a sizable portion of the Republic’s citizens looked at the Jedi as - at the very least - a cumbersome and obsolete anchor. And an enemy of the people at the worst.

I served the grand army, er, the US military... And it was a bit of a shock to me; the waste of life, resources and tax payer dollars. I'll never forget the burn pit in Afghanistan, where we threw away tons of computers, equipment and other supplies.. not because they were broken, but because it was to expensive to ship them home.... It's definitely a hard pill to swallow to see such blatant disregard for hard earned money... And now the guys that worked those burn pits are battling some horrendous ailments and cancers.. war is hell. Not just the combat parts.

Same. Then as a teenager I realized they literally bred slave-soldiers used by the Jedi as a convenient tool for the coming war, falling right into Palpatine’s trap. A true Jedi would have walked from the Order and the Republic that would use slaves to fight a war that’s not even their own. They truly lost their way when they joined the Republic as their so-called “protectors”. I lost respect for the prequel era Order because of this and a few other factors. They deserved to be purged.

Two things about the episode that also jump out, one is the possibility that Ventress did more than straight up talk him into it. Slick having his crisis of faith there, leading to Ventress adding mental fuckery to the mix could also explain a lot of getting him to radicalize against the Republic and his brothers. Another thing is that I kind of saw Anakin and Obi-Wan's reaction to it in the end as an indication that a lot of the Jedi were basically in the same boat. After all, Jedi aren't supposed to have attachment, and they weren't supposed to have personal possessions...the encouraged "attachments" were to other Jedi. And they were, largely, raised in the temples...much the same way that the Clones were in their tanks.

Part of it comes from the fact that the people who were part of those forces were generally brought up to it. In fairness, the Jedi were for the most part dragged into the Order and raised practically from infancy whether they wanted to be there or not, so it would have been hypocritical (even for the Jedi) to call that out in the Republic's treatment of the Clone Troopers.
@morlath4767
@morlath4767 3 года назад
@@tba113 And yet the Jedi were still treated as people by those on the outside. It's another showing that the Order wasn't upholding what the Republic was supposed to be (equality for all) but rather the Republic itself, regardless of what that Republic actually meant for its people.
@tba113
@tba113 3 года назад
@@morlath4767 Oh, we agree about that. I'm not absolving the Jedi here; it's just, I can see how _they_ wouldn't see anything fundamentally wrong with the Clones' arrangement. Even without going as far as bloodthirsty psychos like Pong Krell who intentionally got Clone Troopers killed out of spite, it's still reasonable that most Jedi might look at their own lives, compare them to the Clone Troopers' lot in life, and conclude that both groups had been marked from birth for a dangerous life of service to a Republic they will always be separate from. If the Clones were dealt a crummy hand by Fate, well, it's rough all around; being born into servitude is good enough for the Jedi, so it must be good enough for the Clones, too. Is that sort of thinking kind of monstrous? Of course, absolutely, but it's part of a larger issue with the Jedi that's been bothering me since Attack of the Clones: as much as the Jedi claim to be be contemplative planners who meditate deeply on events to foresee hidden pitfalls and unexpected dangers, they certainly fall prey to tunnel-vision-related surprises and betrayals an awful lot. Consider: an army larger than D-Day showed up out of fucking nowhere, locked and loaded for battle with their own armored vehicles, weapons, custom body armor, and fleet of warships, and the Jedi Order's response was "eh, seems legit". That is... Not the reaction of a meditative strategist or trained arbiter like the Jedi are supposed to be. ...Actually, I guess the Clones weren't "out of nowhere" from the Jedi perspective; it's worse than that, since prior to the Battle of Geonosis, the Jedi Order was convinced that Kamino _didn't even exist._ Doing a real heckuva job there, Chief Librarian Jocasta Nu... But then, the Jedi Order believing its own hype is pretty much par for the course, so I guess at least they're consistent.
@morlath4767
@morlath4767 3 года назад
@@tba113 The Order's biggest three problems by the time of the Clone Wars were: Yoda - The man was around since about 100 years post-Ruusan Reformation. He would have been raised on the initial propaganda of Jedi = Republic servants. Add in that the gremlin was a major pacifist to the point of non-action, and this became a rot from the top down. Even the Jedi confused age with wisdom and made out that Yoda could do no wrong. Reliance on the Force - This was more a problem with the upper tiers of the Order, but the Force aided visions and guidance was a massive crutch. To the point where once it was gone, the Order wasn't even capable of making sensible right/wrong decisions. They had given up their ability to proactively influence the galaxy. Once the Force became harder to read, they turned their attention to the Senate/Republic and used that as the light to their paths. Pure, unrestrained Jedi Arrogance - You brought up Jocasta and Kamino, but this is in everything the Jedi did. From Jinn's "this boy is the Chosen One, so I'm throwing m Padawan aside to train him" and outward, the Order came to feel that they were right simply because they were Jedi. If the Force couldn't tell them what to do, then they must do what they saw was Right. Now, this might seem like it clashes with the second issue. And it would. If the Jedi made sure to question themselves and everything else. But they didn't. They had their views and those were right, they had their knowledge and that was all there was to know. The Order had become a stagnant and crumbling organisation weighed down by its own hubris and self-importance. And Yoda was one of the major factors.

I think another reason we don't see many like Slick was that Slick was early in the war when it was known the common practice of the Separatist was to just kill clones one sight, not even take prisoners unless it is to torture for information. Not to mention the Separatist constant practice of betraying people they make promises to. So, I think the main reason we don't hear more clones like Slick is that they feel they have no choice but win the war for the Republic to survive.
@condedooku9750
@condedooku9750 3 года назад
Except for the fact that it depends, Dooku himself said, "If we kill every Jedi who surrenders, we simply encourage them to fight to the death." Implying that they can take prisoners and not torture them, which they would not normally teach in The Clone Wars because the series is obviously pro-Republican, the CIS propaganda made them see them as slave victims of the evil Republic so it would make sense that for propaganda reasons treat them well, it is also known that prisoner of war camps existed and there are several examples of surrender negotiations (which usually end with Anakin and Obi wan committing a war crime), because these negotiations would exist if they were to execute all the clones ? It is simple, the answer is DEPENDS, the CIS was a very decentralized faction, each system practically does what it wants as long as it follows the general scheme of things, then a clone POW captured in for example Umbara, Mon Cala, Raxus, etc. ... He would not be executed, and he would be kept as a prisoner of war until the end of hostilities, on the other hand if you are captured by one of the megacorporations of the Separatist Council then that clone is screwed, but as I say depends, then the real reason why the fact that very few would join the CIS is because: -They are genetically designed to be loyal to the Republic, so to defect they would have to go against their own DNA. -Since their birth they are subjected to constant pro-Republican propaganda, so they have so internalized that loyalty that to desert would be to go against everything they have been taught throughout their lives. -Most clones see the clones they work with as brothers so if they don't accompany them it would be difficult to leave them behind. -Most clones that desert probably find it easier to get away from military life and live on some remote planet without further conflict. -If the Republic captured you trying to commit treason / desertion or they captured you after you had done it, you would be executed. -tHe SePaRaTiSt ArE bAd GuYs And tHe ClOnEs ArE gOoD gUyS sO tHeY can'T wOrK tOgHeThEr.

To be fair, there might've been, but we just didn't see them as audience members. There were a million clones created during the 3 year war, but we've mostly paid attention to a fraction of the whole army (501st, 212th, etc). With that many soldiers, I'm sure there were more traitors sprinkled out, but it'd be redundant to tell the same story again from a narrative perspective.

You’d think Anakin would empathize with slick cause he’s technically still a slave but with the Jedi and the only reason he is technically free is because he had was strong in the force
@hackman669
@hackman669 3 года назад
In one point of view you are correct, Anakin had a strong devotion to the Jedi Order the same way as the clones had to each other. The major difference is that Anakin experienced a childhood before becoming a Jedi. He had a sense of the world outside while clones did not. Also Anakin had choices to either be reassign to other posts within the Order or he could leave like Asoka. This choice was denied of the clones.

all they same huh. in the force they are all different. Slick saw two things A:he saw it for what it was to a degree B: He saw no long term gain from the war as that when all said and done he didn't see that he and his brothers would gain after war's end. This is something he inherited from Jango " Foresight"
@MrRonald327
@MrRonald327 2 года назад
The funny thing is Asajj gave him something no one else did, a choice. He was the most Jango-like. In the end, he was right along about the clones being slaves. As Scum and Villainy revealed that clones don't get due process and Slick committed treason (it's noted that Mace Windu had to negotiate to get Boba Fett a lighter sentence in the form of prison time), he's likely dead thanks to the Kaminoans.

The idea that the Clones even would follow the Republic in the first place is questionable even with indoctrination. I always found the Clone Army problematic tbh. I mean you are essentially in a Slave army with no rights or freedoms serving space wizards with a problem with attachment. Its one of my problems with TCW's extension personality and self awareness of the Clones to the point where they are aware that they essentially are slaves. Like if I was a clone I would have a lot of questions regardless. It makes Palpatines plan regardless of canon or legends questionable and flawed.

@@ikedatike2533 I just find that Palpatine plan hinging on the CT turning on the Jedi via indoctrination/chips to be problematic. I like the Clone Wars, Clones, and Ahsoka. But in reality Slick was right, the Clones were bred as fighting slaves. Yes! fighting slaves. They were property of the Kaminoans, rented to the Republic. Similar to humans born into slavery, they learned over time that something was wrong with their existence. Even with all the behavior modifications, statistics tell us that outliers would come to fore over time, and with time outliers would increase, consequently they become less of a deviation. In addition, the Jedi for all their glory and power were the master slave masters. However, the 501st came to respect and love Ahsoka because she knew every one of them individually, each of their names, and believe in them as comrade. Her pain she felt for their death because of Order 66 (another control tool) is so powerful.

The Clones of the GAR remind me of a malignant version of the Janissaries of the Ottoman Turks. The Janissaries were slaves, but they were paid and treated generally better than the rest of society. They also had a paid retirement waiting at the end of a defined period of service and the ability to marry after a prescirbed period of time had passed. It's was slavery in a guilded cage that produced loyalty. The GAR on the other hand reduced sentient beings to the status of droids. Nice job shining a light on the moral corruption of the Republic and Jedi Order.

@sophiedivliaev8968
@sophiedivliaev8968 Год назад
Cut deserted because of his unique experiences. This is something The Clone Wars tried to get across: you can have millions of clones of the same person, but a difference in circumstances will lead to them making different decisions and having different personalities. Even the clones themselves prided themselves on some degree of individuality; thus the different hairstyles, tattoos, armour customisation etc. The Bad Batch post order-66 shows how this has been stripped away from the remaining clones; only the officers are allowed different armour, and only so far as to keep their designation of rank and NONE of the clones are referred to by name any more.

I think it’s amazing that beings designed to follow orders and made for war are actually all good men. All clones were good men who cared for each other and actually think they were better then the Jedi. They valued their brothers as family shows care to the point where in season 7 Rex goes out of his way to save echo. I mean the Jedi don’t give a crap about one another. Omg it’s like today where all the leftest blindly follow their policies without seeing the hypocrisy in them. The Jedi did the same thing in their teaching, don’t show any emotion but then you seem them actually show emotion

Clones are people and not all people are good, there were quite a few psycho clones that only sought to harm and massacre their enemies, in the same way that some were so loyal to their orders that they had practically no emotions and would be more than willing to burn worlds if ordered to do so, just as there were even some killer clones that aimed to kill senators who could be a threat to Palpatine, etc ...
