This video is a reupload/remake of the first theory video I ever did on my original channel. It has been removed form that channel!
While playing the Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker, I always wondered why the Hero didn't come to Hyrule's aid immediately. Why did he wait generations before appearing?
In this video I explain my theory as to why I believe the Hero Didn't come!
If you want to join in the discussion for future Zelda Theory videos and get credited in future videos join my discord and enter into the Zelda Discussion channel. I will be posting updates to my theories and having discussions pertaining to them to get a more well rounded analysis prior to posting the videos!

The idea that the hero of winds is just a kid who has nothing to do with the whole reincarnation cycle but just REALLY cares about his family to the point he gets an endorsement from the triforce of courage while he's on a quest to beat up Ganondorf for stealing his sister is hilarious to me. Your theory makes sense, but I love the idea of Ganondorf managing to piss off the only person in Hyrule who can beat him without having the heros spirit.

Oh for sure! Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of The hero Spirit being a measure of ones spirit top the point that literally any person could be born with tremendous courage and get endorsed by the Triforce of Courage. That is also why I presented the wind waker story the way I did hahaha. He really did take the wrong kids sister. This theory isnt to discount the story of the wind waker but to provide an alternate look at it. Love your comment!

@@hyrulemonkay Link was sent to the twilight princess timeline so he wasn't in the wind waker timeline so he couldn't save Hyrule in that timeline and there was no reincarnation of link to save Hyrule in the wind waker timeline, link from the wind waker timeline just decided to get his sister back and used the Triforce to do so

@@almessasorrow4950 Wind Waker Link still had the spirit of the hero. It's indicated through his grandma that he descends from possibly a previous Link (like Minish Cap Link). After all the family shield was once used by the Hero, but we know it was OoT Link. Regardless if Link was removed from a timeline or not, it doesn't simply erase the law of the spirit of the hero. Like every Link, WW Link descends from the Bloodline of Hylian Knights too. He carries the traits of the spirit of the hero and we see 1 within the first 15 minutes of the game. I'll be honest, I do personally believe that there was a Hero of the Flood during the Era without a hero, just that he wasn't recognized or something happened during his adventure. I never bought into the "Spirit of the Hero can be removed" thing. There was definitely more than enough time to reincarnate, there was also a new Zelda during that time too. We see King Daphnes' daughter and her retainers in a picture within Hyrule Castle too.
@ibechuu9695
@ibechuu9695 Год назад
@Almessa Sorrow still doesn't explain why Nintendo would literally have Ganondorf state that WW Link was the Hero of Time Reborn. The afterlife or golden realm can exist outside the influence of time. Just because zelda created a timeline split, doesn't mean that the realm of the afterlife is effected by it. The same spirits can exist in different timelines once one dies, simply being reborn in another timeline. This is also why Hyrule Historia goes to great lengths to state that the "sleeping Zelda" in Zelda 2 isn't a zelda that's connected to Hylia unlike the other Zeldas, just a victim that started the naming tradition in the Fallen timeline. Sleeping Zelda had no Link during her era, and Link and Zelda are always born in the same era as a pair.

one game you forgot to mention was majora's mask which if the hyrule historian timeline is accurate takes place between OoT and TP. though it doesnt change your theory much its important to take note that the events in termina could have also played a major influence in the hero not being present in the AT OoT or was a deeply traumatic event for the kid and that played a part in him lingering as a shade. the trauma of termina and majora's mask staying with him to his dying breath in a second sort of curse keeping him bound to the mortal realm as a shade. but that is based on the real world beliefs of how spirits can remain trapped here on earth so take it with salt.

I love this theory. It' makes a little TOO much sense. Though -- while certainly possible -- I think that having the Hero's Shade be warped back to his original timeline cheapens the story of Wind Waker. Yes, it makes sense for the goddess of time to pull something like that, but why didn't she just send him back to prevent the flood? I don't know. @@hyrulemonkay The more I think about it, the more your theory makes better sense than my alterative. I don't think the Hero of Time's spirit would ever just fade away and not be reborn afterward. @Sivanot
@Sivanot Год назад
@@sirbill_greebi3811 I think the idea of the SoTH being too stubborn to fade away is accurate. So this is solved by realizing there being 'two' of them in the child timeline doesn't make sense. When Link was sent back, he was still the Link in possession of the timeline's spirit of the hero. Just because he later dies and exists as a Stal creature of some kind doesn't mean there has to be two souls.
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
@@Sivanot It does if as the theory indicates that he was sent back in time to a point before the master sword was drawn, and prevents the Link that was destined to grab it from doing so in this branch of the timeline. Ive explained in a few comments that Zelda had fled Hyrule to safety with Impa after Ganondofr attacked the castle. This is right before Link draws the Blade. Well in the end of the game sequence, we see this Hero returned to the child timeline, and he has a chat with Zelda while she is still in her courtyard. This can mean one of two things. They doubled back to Hyrule despite the castle having fell to ganodorfs attack already(NOT LIKELY) or Link was sent back in time to a point before the sword was drawn and had a private chat with Zelda bearing his Mark of the Hero as proof of his journey. (Likely) This link stops the sacred realm from being opened in this time line. But while all of this is still happening, there is his original self going about hyrule collecting the Zora's sapphire and Goron's ruby. Shoot if he was sent back in time early enough, His story could have not started yet. He could still be in his bed. Hero of time link departing for termina so as to not bump into his other self which would continue living in Kokiri forest until he was an adult and had to leave the forest. Perhaps this is how we get a Hero's shade(Hero of time) that joined the Hylian Knights, and one who had descendants that founded Ordon Village. If he grew to an adult having never gone on his adventure, he would have had to leave the forest eventually. Another reason for believing this is that the master sword forms a time bridge from the point the sword was drawn, to the point where he could wield it. Zelda However sent him back with the Ocarina of time which broke that bridge. It is not likely that he arrived at the same point in time from which he left the child timeline.

something me and my roommate talked about a while back was how wind waker Link didn't just feel different in art style, but in that other links tend to basically just get the triforce of courage, they are destined heroes, they fight Ganon because it's what they're supposed to do, but he was going after his sister, he had to piece together and earn a shattered triforce, and he was running around taking pictures and collecting figurines when other links were basically just all about the adventure. Fate didn't choose him, he was just some nerd who stumbled into being the person who gets the job done this time. Thus, we concluded that he wasn't even really a Link, and was just in fact some kid wearing green in the right place at the right time. Ever since we've been calling him "Clyde" and decided that going through the game in your pajamas was the true game. Of course now botw Link is out there wearing costumes, eating frogs, and taking selfies, so toon Link being a geek isn't exactly as unique anymore, but at the time I did think it was funny how different of a character he really seemed to be from usual Link personality

That isn't really how the spirit of the hero works though. It really just follows those who have the traits of the hero. Wind Waker Link displayed this within the first 15 minutes of the game. He was a Link, just not one foretold by destiny. In fact there were only like maybe two Link's who actually fit that criteria, SS Link, OoT/MM Link, and ALttP/LA Link. Wind Waker only makes it feel that way because they were so hellbent on the Hero of Time that they weren't even aware of the heroes who shared the same traits as him beforehand. Let alone the cycle that followed since the days of SS. That cycle can't be broken and it's doubtful the spirit of the hero was too. It wouldn't be surprising if there was actually a Hero during the flood era too. Hell Wind Waker Link just like every other Link (aside from possibly NES Link) descends from a Hylian Knight lineage. It's even indicated through Wind Waker Link's grandma that their family heirloom was used by the Hero. She talks about the Hero of Time, but we know thats false. However we know Minish Cap Link, and Four Swords Link had that shield prior and they happen before OoT. Yes he's a bit more goofy in Wind Waker, that just means he has more personality (though his attitude is more like the other Links in his direct sequel, Phantom Hourglass while still being goofy to some extent). His game just really allowed for him to act his age (which was 12 according to Aonuma) while still being the next hero. Even in Twilight Princess Link initially set out on his adventure to save his friends (also can't forget he literally collected bugs). Minish Cap and Four Swords Link started their adventure to save their respective Zeldas initially.

Playing through Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time made me question certain things. Only Zelda and the sages knew of Link's deeds, and he made the choice to revert things back to normal and for him to live out his childhood, but he couldn't go back to his childhood home and no one would accept him in Kokori Forest aside from Saria. He never found Navi during the events of Majora's Mask, which could explain one of the regrets of the Hero Shade. A promise unfulfilled. He grew up into an adult with lingering regrets and became the Hero Shade in the end, and if you believe in spirits, his spirit was tied to the realm and would only depart once he felt he passed on his knowledge to the right successor. I love theories on the games, and I hope that they make a game that can tie everything in nicely or at least explain things better. We all know the timeline isn't completely linear as there are a lot of branching off that they do.

It's funny that YT recommended this to me because I had come to essentially the exact same conclusion. The fact that the cycle continues in WW and ST would be weird if it were with the spirit of some random kid, and I always wondered what would have happened to the Spirit of the Hero "native" to the Child Timeline considering that the Hero of Time was indeed native to the Adult Timeline and was sent away from it. Then in my head, it clicked that we *do* see two Links in the child timeline, and we are pretty confident that WW is further from OOT than TP, so it makes a whole lot of sense that the Hero of Time stayed in the Child Timeline until moving on to the afterlife, where he'd essentially reincarnate back into the Adult Timeline.
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
Exactly! Most people fail to realize that Link was sent back in time to before he started his journey. There is a link sleeping in his bed and one talking to Zelda. It further makes sense that the Link that never went on his adventure would have decendants that lived in ordon village. A village that Lilly was started by him as he could not live in the Kokiri forest as an adult…or much worse. (Perhaps The Deku tree was still dead in that timeline having died of his curse and never sprouted as the curse never got lifted. )He is seen at the end of OOT meeting Princess Zelda just as he had originally and she seems equally surprised to see him. The events of OoT never even started in the Child timeline.

I like your theory and also would agrees that it makes sense. But I like the idea more that the respective hero is not chosen beforehand (most of the time) by the goddess but has to achieve being worthy to hold the triforce of courage. That highlights also the effort the player is putting into the game/Link. You are not only playing a "hero-elect", but you are helping a random kid to grow and become courageous enough to hold one part of the most powerful entities in their universe. TP is somewhat different because Link already houses the triforce of courage. This is maybe due to the reason that the the parts of the triforce are divided but whole and so look for someone who has the best abilities matching their characteristics. But a great video! If you like theories about the triforce, I would be eager of your opinion what happened to the triforce in BotW? It was a central part in almost all Zelda games (or something like the "force" in MC), but it doesn't play a role in BotW.

I'm more personally of the opinion that the Spirit of the Hero reincarnated, but also that the actual trials - the acquisition of the orbs, the trial of the tower, and so on - were more significant than we might have realized. I feel that those didn't just "prove" the heroism, but they *created* him - that is, it literally (as well as metaphorically, as it appeared) imbued him with the spirit of the hero. Whether it plucked the spirit from the Adult timeline back into this one (possible, considering Phantom Ganon is also seems to have literally been plucked from another timeline) or forged anew through the trials and blessings of the spirits WWLink runs into and engages with is less clear to me - but that's my current working theory. Link does time travel with the pedastool in the temple of time. He has to do the Bottom of the Well and Young Link’s version of the Spirit Temple. This is probably the same method Zelda uses to send Link back. Presumably sending his consciousness into his past self before he even drew the sword rather than sending the whole body. As a 2nd Link would have left Kokiri Forest too if the Link we see at the end of the game is the him right before meeting Zelda.

It’s clear that Zelda sends link back in time to a point before he drew the master sword. He lays it to rest in the Adult Timeline, but Zelda says she is sending him back with her sage papers and the power of the Ocarina of Time. Why he is touching the master sword when he is a child in the end cut scene is unclear, but Zelda explicitly states that laying the sword to rest will cause the time bridge to break and that’s why she sends him back with the Ocarina. Tithing people have the problem with this idea is that if it was before he drew the blade it was before he opened the door of time so he would be trapped in the sword chamber but I see no real reason why the sages when building the temple of time wouldn’t have may the door open from the inside, knowing pretty well that events like this could happen. It seems illogical.

You might be right, the hero cannot be reborn if he never died or if his spirit hasn't moved on. So what happened in TP which let Link's spirit to be moved on might've helped to enable the rebirth of the hero in WW. If Ganondorf showed up again in the adult timeline within 100 years there was no hero/Link because his spirit was still roaming in the child timeline. It is also interesting how with the lack of the hero the gods have a failsafe by either flooding or raising the land. So they have a plan B. Which means they are watching and monitoring the situation on Hyrule. The sheikah have a big eye as their symbol and advanced tech, so perhaps they are the "watchers" that report directly to the gods or Hylia and protect and raise Zelda when Hylia's spirit reincarnates into her. They also test the hero if he is ready for the task with shrines and towers/trials of the gods etc. I think some of the lands in ToTK will be raised again by the Sheikah to protect critical parts to defeat Ganon, including Link. I think he will recover from his wounds in a sheikah temple in the sky while in the meanwhile Ganondorf's minions wipe out Hyrule beneath. Notice that all the islands do not float magically as in SS, there seems to be a crystal beneath. Perhaps the "sky tech" also has a solution against the malice or Ganondorf, like an ancient machine powered by these 7 "tears" you see on the mural in the trailer. One of the main symbols in ToTk and found on the collector items is the big "sheikah" eye as well above the hand. I also think the timeshift stones from the ancient Lanayru mine in SS will play a role again. In SS they power the robots and can very locally reverse time. Link can reverse objects in time as well in the ToTK trailers (like the spikey ball or the rock that fell of a sky island) and we see Ganondorf's minions mine for something in ancient ruins (with Lanayru like symbols). These might also be the crystals the sheikah used to raise the islands and power the sky robotic things.

Whether both are a child or one is a child and one is an adult is irrelevant, there are now two of me existing in 2004. In links case he did get turned into a child before getting sent back. So there are two child links in that timeline. Normally with time travel the hero of time would live out his normal life going of to termina while the new child link went on to draw the master sword and start the loop again. However also true with time travel, because link medaled with the events of oot by stopping Ganon before the new link drew the blade, both links stay in that timeline and a new loop never begins. Else Ganon would still have the triforce.
@Awnos
@Awnos Год назад
@@hyrulemonkay That's not how ocarina of time works, when you time travel you transform your body from adult to child and vice versa every time you time travel. So after defeating Ganon as an adult you go back in time and stop Ganondorf before anything happens, thus preventing him from destroying Hyrule. There are never two child Links running around.
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
@@Awnos There assuredly would be two links running around. Notice how at the end of the game link walks into castle courtyard? Zelda is still there. At the point in time where he left the child timeline she had fled with Impa into hiding. Link doesn’t return to the past by the same means he did during his adventure. He is sent back in time by the power of the ocarina not the master sword. Zelda sent him back in time to before the sword was drawn. This means that there is a link somewhere else in Hyrule from the great Deku tree to Zoras domain potentially collecting the spiritual stones while link is talking with Zelda at the end of the game. If it was early enough his adventure may never have began, but one thing is clear he didn’t end up drawing the blade in this timeline.
@BruhMan_5
@BruhMan_5 Год назад
@Hyrule Monkay hold on, something doesn't add up, at the end of the game he does indeed appear in the courtyard with Zelda but it also shows him first appearing back inside the Temple of Time *presumably* putting the master sword back since he walks away. If she sent him back before the sword was drawn then he shouldn't have appeared in that chamber because that would means hes able to go into (and out of) that chamber without the spiritual stones or ocarina, which means there was no point in the entire first half of the game essentially. Otherwise that would imply he already got the spiritual stones and the ocarina to open the door, but then if there are indeed two Links running around then the other Link wouldn't have any spiritual stones to collect because they would've already been collected. This would mean Zeldas actions would not only have only created two Links, but two Zeldas, two Ganandorfs and two of each of the spirit stones along with everyone else in Hyrule at two separate points in time.
@BruhMan_5
@BruhMan_5 Год назад
But then this bring up another problem, if he appeared in the sword chamber that makes the assumption thay the stones went back with him, meaning he would have to return all of them before the second link started his journey, meaning he would have to somehow bring back all of the bosses guarding the stones, be kidnapp princess Ruto and bring the great deku tree back to life. Even if we assume he didn't do that, he can only get to that courtyard after he gets the first stone which means the deku tree has to die no matter what, but then if that's the case the second Link wouldn't have gotten Navi or to talk about his destiny by the deku tree to begin with

I think the reason why the hero of time never returned was because the reincarnation of Hylia AND the Hero need to happen at roughly thr same time. From my understanding, the legend from Windwaker happens shortly after OoT. Thus, that zelda should still be alive and blocking link from reincarnation. Even after her passing it took awhile for the two to reincarnate because after the flooding Ganon was trapped in Hyrule. It wasn't until Windwaker he found a way out. Thus the two had to be reincarnated to stop his evil that until then was contained.

Short version. He believes the Goddess Of Time & Hero's Spirit worked together. Based on your theory, the goddess of time would have to send the hero's spirit to three different timelines. Did you forget the "What If Link dies In Ocarina Of Time" timeline branch as well? Since those timelines all continue forward, every time Ganon returns, the godess of time has to hope no other Link is alive, because she'll have to keep transferring his spirit across all the timelines.
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
No, I didn’t forget. First off most people hold to that the fallen hero “Timeline” is more realistically a parallel world as you can not have a timeline where he dies and one where he lives in the same instance. That is the idea of differing outcomes produce a parallel universe where each outcome exists. Though for argument sake and Hyrule Historia labeling such as a “timeline” I say that hero died. His spirit had to be reincarnated… and it did in a link to the Past. There is a difference between dieing in a timeline the hero was supposed to be in, and getting yeeted through time to a timeline you don’t belong in. In one timeline he died. In another, he just ceased to exist entirely. The idea here is that in the adult timeline the instance of the hero that belonged there was not there. The instance of the dead hero in the fallen hero timeline, and the one that was living in the child timeline continues to exist. It’s not that the timelines are all sharing one spirit. It’s that in the adult timeline the spirit no longer existed as there we two in the child. I only suggest that the goddess of time fixed that when the hero shade passed. Now that I get thinking about it, this idea only further supports the idea that the fallen hero timeline is actually an parallel universe. As how can one spirit both Fail and succeed at the same task. If he succeeded, why would he go back in time only to fail? If he failed, how can he possibly go back in time to succeed? The two events cannot exist in the same universe while the Adult and the Child timeline can.

However I think outside of Hyrule Historia say so, there is more evidence to suggest they don’t posses it and are just people chosen of the gods. A video will be done about that later, but long story short, it’s just the mark of the hero, and the mark of power. The mark of the hero appears on the hand of many Heros just so people will recognize them for what they are, not just because they have the triforce.

Hylia thought that her plan would rid the world of Demise forever. She never conceived of Demise cursing them all into a reincarnation cycle. As far as OoT goes if you look past the gameplay mechanics and controls(although for it’s time was amazing) you’ll understand that even today it still holds up as a timeless classic. It still by far has the best music and it’s not even close. It still has the most memorable characters, great dungeons, good story, excellent writing, excellent character development, deep lore, and also at times a sense of loneliness and mystery(like the graveyard, traveling through Hyrule field at night, bottom of the well, leaving friends behind, etc…) It is the ultimate story of courage, wisdom, power. A boy learning how to become a man. Epona is absolutely amazing and Lon Lon Ranch is a top 10 Zelda song of all time easily. Also, let’s not forget one of the greatest characters of all… Sheik. I never understand why people have Wind Waker so low on their all time lists. Wind Waker soundtrack is the only one EVER to come even remotely close to Ocarina of Time. It’s heavily known for its cheerful bright vibes but it actually has one of the deepest and darkest stories of the whole Zelda franchise. The story, lore, music, characters, side quests, companion, open world, traveling, and most of all the symbolism behind everything. It also has arguably the greatest version of Ganondorf. The Ganondorf in Wind Waker was the same Ganondorf that the Hero of Time sealed away in the Sacred Realm. It’s absolutely beautiful and I find it to be one of the most memorable Zelda experiences of all time. As a kid I didn’t necessarily enjoy Majora’s Mask because when I was younger I did not always understand what I was supposed to do or where I was supposed to go. However, as time passed on and as I started to get older, I started realizing just how special this game really is. The deepest, saddest, strangest, creepiest, and the most unique Zelda experience of all time and it’s absolutely amazing.

The simple answer to this question is that by sending Link back to the Past she created a timeline in the present where the Hero of Time no longer existed. She should have just married adult Link in the present and tied him to the land so he and his descendants would be there in case Ganondorf revived or another threat appeared... I believe Zelda did it out of greed to save her father and prevent the devastation of her homeland in another timeline even if she herself wouldn't be able to enjoy it and dooming her own timeline...

It a fun theory but I’m pretty sure its just way simpler than that. First off while I do think Link is a reincarnation I don’t think theres only 1 spirit of the hero. We don’t even know what that really even means. It just means the courage to defeat evil most of the time. Link is referred to as a hero in games where he isnt even fighting Ganondorf. Also when the Heros Shade said link earns the spirit of the hero, he doesn’t mean literally. This isn’t even a necessary thing you have to do to complete the game. Link is already given the heros tunic by a spirit when turns back into human form in TP so he was already prophesized to be the hero. Rather than something so convoluted, I think when Link was sent back it just made 2 timelines. One where he went back and lived a normal life, until MM I guess. In this timeline, Ganondorf is stopped before he can do anything. In the adult timeline, Ganondorf rules for 7 years and is stopped by the hero. But since he was sent back he was therefore absent after this. My personal theory is that Link just skipped a reincarnation phase. The hero wasn’t born because he mysteriously disappeared. But Ganondorf was defeated so peace returned for some time until he came back. This still works with your WW theory as it means that since Link just disappeared in the adult timeline, the spirit of the hero couldn’t reincarnate. Meaning that WW Link still earns the spirit of the hero. Hes just some kid until he gets the triforce. He’s still a badass. And then obviously we have the fallen hero timeline, which is just the adult timeline BUT Ganondorf wins and messes everything up. And now for my actual theory that I think is wayyy more likely. They didn’t know for Wind Waker. Wind Waker came out right after Ocarina of time, its likely that there was no history before this. Actually, its very likely just looking at the lore and stuff that happens in previous games that they never anticipated making deeper lore until TP. Thats probably when they decided to split the timeline, which is its the first game to even mention previous events of other games with separate incarnations of Link. Its 100 years after Oot, which isn’t long at all. And it mentions the hero of time. With this link being a direct descendant of him. So thats probably what happened
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
I like the theory, the only tidbit I’d add to it is Majoras mask was very much made as a direct sequel, and so was Wind Waker. They new at that time there was the adult and child timeline. And they new when they made TP that it would be in the child timeline. These games all directly reference aspects of the game that points to it. However I do agree as for the rest of the games they had no idea and that’s why the timelines a mess. I love the idea of WW link being a random kid who makes the gods acknowledge him. It much more poetic. My theory is only presented as a possibility not as this must have happened this way. I’m working on a video entirely about the cycles we see in the series and if and when reincarnation appears.

So your theory is pretty good.👍 I believe the other spirit you said that got trapped in the spirit realm has a bit of a different path; one that brings in Soul Calibur 2; mainly because I like that game and also it'll connect some dots to other Zelda games. Ok so the second Link; the one that returns to being a child goes through Majora's Mask. After those events he naturally grows up and becomes Adult Link again. Instead of reliving the events of Ocarina of Time he visits the Soul Calibur 2 universe and goes on a quest there; completely taking him away from Hyrule. Upon returning to Hyrule a great Calamity happens and Link does all of that. Afterwards he returns to the Sage chamber and sleeps, but is awakened by mysterious events. Events that become Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Than Wind Waker happens after all of this twice in 2 separate timelines. BOTW Link IS the Hero of Time (and also fierce Diety Link) from another timeline. Glad you liked it!!! Conquering the fallen hero timeline reasoning is something I feel would be incredibly difficult. Most people are of the persuading that the fallen hero games are not in a timeline, but an alternate universe. A paradox. The reasoning is you can’t have a timeline where it branches from a single instance. There is no way the hero could both succeed and fail in the same task in one universe. Why would the hero go back in time after success, only to fail? If the hero already failed how could he possibly go back in time to succeed? The two differing out comes of this could only exist where logic does not, or in a universe where he failed, and a universe where he succeeds.

@Hyrule Monkay Yep! It's a tough one. I don't like the alternate universe idea because that just seems odd to me and I always like having answers, but I'll admit that it does work. The only other event that I have ever been able to link to a split would be the moment Link pulls the master sword. Maybe there was a universe where Link was allowed to pull it as a child and either the sword killed him (similar to Breath of the Wild) or he was too weak and died to Ganondorf right there. In that case either the sword itself created a split, or possibly Rauru quickly made a wish on the triforce (idk if he could even do that) and went back in time a few minutes and decided to have Link sealed away and slumber instead. I know the general idea is that Link died during the final battle, but im also not so sure how much evidence there is to support that idea either...

Remember when he had to go back in time in order to enter the desert temple? Before Twinrova was defeated, but while Twinrova was still active? That's when the split happened. Just as it was in the adult timeline, he left the Triforce of Courage behind. Except, it didn't split in the downfall timeline. Princess Zelda saw the Triforce of Courage get left behind. She then attempted to grab it, only for Ganondorf to discover her along with the other two Triforce pieces. Thus, he was able to get both pieces. With the full Triforce at his disposal, he started the imprisoning war, more severe than the war of the Great flood from the adult timeline. Now, as for the seventh sage of the desert temple, perhaps she was somehow freed from Twinrova during the imprisoning war, which explains why it took a while for the sages to seal Ganon away along with the Triforce. They had to free the final sage first. Perhaps the other sages were responsible for setting her free so they could seal Ganon away.

While just my headcanon, I don't think that WW Ganon was right about The Hero of Winds being The Hero of Time reborn. If you take a look at The Hero of Time and The Hero of Twilight, they're basically carbon copies of each other in regards to personality. The Hero of Twilight is basically just his timeline's version of The Hero of Time, but grew up naturally while living a peaceful life until adulthood as opposed to The Hero of Time growing up as an adult in a child's body. The Hero of Winds on the other hand has a very different personality. He's quite distinct compared to The Hero of Time, and therefore seems to be a completely new spirit of the hero. Perhaps he started out as just some random kid, but became the new spirit of the hero due to his pure, intense courage and the assembling of the shattered Triforce of Courage? Then, because he had become the hero in every way that mattered, Ganon was no longer able to tell the difference. What this would effectively mean is that the Child timeline has two identical spirits of the hero, while the Adult timeline was without one for a time until a new one could be formed during Wind Waker. If Breath of the Wild truly takes place in a somehow merged timeline as it seems to, this could mean that all of the pre-existing spirits of the hero now exist simultaneously in one timeline, totaling up to at least three if not four if you also count the Fallen timeline. Breath of the Wild's hero seems to be a reincarnation of either The Hero of Time or The Hero of Twilight, but he could also be reincarnated from the Fallen timeline. It's hard to tell given how similar the three all are. A side note, I've always thought it was kind of interesting how Wind Waker, the Adult Timeline sequel to Ocarina of Time, only features a child as the playable hero, meanwhile Twilight Princess, the Child Timeline sequel to Ocarina of Time only features an adult as the playable hero. The two games seem to represent a sort of yin and yang thing with each other as well.

I thought it was very clear that WW's Link BECAME the hero of legend when he completed the tower of the gods, proving to said gods, that he is worthy of the title of hero of legend. WW's Link has become the hero, his spirit has become that of the hero's when he cleared the tower of the gods; WW's Link, by proving to the gods he's the hero , has restarted the cycle of rebirth of the hero. In regards to two spirits of the hero existing in the child timeline, I don't believe that's the case. I believe that when OoT Link was brought back to before he pulled the master sword, he LITERALLY returned to the moment before he pulled the sword; there aren't two Links. When OoT returned from Termina and died, to become the hero's shade, his physical body, housing the hero's spirit, released the hero's spirit and his body(with his memories and skills) became the hero's shade. So even thought OoT became the hero's shade, the spirit of the hero reincarnates to become TP Link.

I hold that it is more likely that Zelda would send him back to a time before he drew the blade because if she didn’t there will be an infinite loop of time travel, where as if he gets sent back and creates the split where the sword never gets drawn the loop stops. See the problem is if she sends link back in time to when he first drew the blade, then link wouldn’t have been able to warn the king as he would have already been dead. It was necessary for link to go back to a time before Ganon attacked, to stop the attack. Zelda was looking through the window at Ganon most likely. I don't think it makes any sense to assume that the timeline split creates a duplicate SoTH in the Child Timeline. When Link was sent back, he was still the Link in possession of the timeline's spirit of the hero. Just because he later dies and exists as a Stal creature of some kind doesn't mean there has to be two souls. This removes the idea of Hylia having to pluck the Hero's Shade and place him in the Adult timeline to be born as the Hero of Winds, and preserves the theme of him being a random kid who through his own courage proved himself as the new Spirit of the Hero for that world.
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
It makes perfect sense to assume there are two instances of the hero of time. If I go back in time to 2005 when I was 10 years old at 2:00PM It is logical that there is a 10 year old version of me sitting in a school in Math class, While 29 year old me is just wandering around. There would now be two instances of me in the year 2005. One doesn't cease to exist. The thing is, when Link first draws the blade in the original timeline, Ganondorf had already attacked the castle. Zelda had fled with Impa. When Link gets sent back in time, and speaks with Zelda, She is still in the castle courtyard. It is clear, that Link is sent back in time to a point before He drew the blade in the first place as Zelda had not yet fled. That means there is an instance of him talking with Princes Zelda, and an instance of him that is anywhere from him waking up in his bed, to him getting the Zora's Sapphire. One that went on the adventure through time, and one that never obtained the Ocarina from Zelda. I agree though, It would remove the idea of a random kid rising to hero status, however I can't disregard ganon saying that he is the hero of time reborn.

She was there! My theories say that link died and Majoras mask is his acceptance, but I see it a different way. Majoras mask is links therapy session. Whether it really happened, or was a dream is irrelevant. Link needed therapy, and Majoras mask is about him accepting his life. Even if the shade from Twilight Princess could move on after passing his teachings to Twilight Link I don't think his soul could go to the Wind Waker timeline. The King of Hyrule and the Deku tree saw that Wind Waker Link had no connection to the Hero of Time. It was only Ganondorf's delusion and arrogance that only the Hero of Time could step up and become a true hero! Wind Waker Link isn't the Hero of Time reborn he is the Hero of Wind who overcome many hardships on his own merit! And that shows that the future can become anything and it was wrong for Ganondorf and the King of Hyrule to try to revive ancient Hyrule and continue their own cycles. The King of Hyrule came to understand this and left the future to Link and Zelda not wanting to even contaminate the future with his old thinking by remaining with them... A truly beautiful story the more I think about it!!! 😢 😢 😢
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
The Deku tree thought he was the Hero of Time for a moment, and the king saying he has no connection to the Hero of Time doesn’t exactly prove that Link doesn’t (I admit it is substantial evidence as it is a direct game quote) but I believe the implied meaning is that this is not the Hero of Time. As in this person here did not leap through time to save us, This body This kid is not him. Whether he is the Hero of Time reborn or reincarnated, there is no way the king could no for sure this hero didn’t reincarnate. Meaning the split it could be the same but the body is different. (The Hindu idea of reincarnation same spirit different person.) In that same note however there is also no way for Ganon to know it was the same spirit when he says surely you are the hero of time reborn. All this is to say, we don’t really know for sure what to make of it. And we really can’t know. That’s what makes the theory fun. In a related note, because I’ve been asked about it, I am working on a video where I evaluate whether or not reincarnation is a theme in Zelda of not. @@hyrulemonkay Skyward Sword basically confirms reincarnation is a fact in Zelda games though. First Hylia sacrifices herself to seal Demise and reincarnated as the first Zelda. Then because of Demise's curse not only himself but Hylia/Zelda and Link will be reincarnated over and over again at least that's how I interpret it. As for Wind Waker I guess it's subjective but I think the evidence heavily leans toward Wind Waker Link maybe being the first hero who isn't a reincarnation of the original which if true is an important turning point in Zelda mythology! In support of that I present that first Ganondorf's statement can be dismissed since he only briefly encountered Link 3 times and I think is only measuring Link being the Hero of Time reborn by his fighting ability. The Great Deku Tree and King of Hyrule probably knew a lot more about the Hero of Time and I believe even found his mannerisms completely different to his which lends more weight to my theory at least in my opinion. While the original Hyrule Warriors isn’t cannon it also presents an idea similarly, the reason why cia wanted to combine the timelines is because she wanted Link (the spirit of the hero) if two or more were together in one timeline she could have one with her outside of time, without damaging the role he played as hero as there would be the others that would save the day. This same idea applies not only to link but to others as well. Theoretically with the help of the goddess of time, anyone, or anything could jump timelines. This is an especially interesting point as in BOTW there are many things that seem to stem from all other timelines in one game. The idea of people and things jumping timelines is alright with me.
@KryyssTV
@KryyssTV Год назад
It can't be a reincarnation because in Twilight Princess the Hero of Twilight meets the Hero of Time who appears as both a Stalfos and a Golden Wolf meaning the esence of the original hero would need to exist in two bodies. The line about having the spirit of the true hero referes to being like the hero in heart and mind. A figuritive spirit. Consequently the Hero is simply chosen according to some unknown force that tries to maintain balance in Hyrule. There has never been a direct 1:1 ratio of a hero appearing at the same time as Ganondorf or an incarnation of Demise's hatred since quite often evil gains the upperhand but is then defeated at a critcal point. What is consistent however is that a hero does appear whenever a reincarnation of Hylia is endangered so in Wind Waker she was not in jeopardy until Ganondorf started seeking her out.
@hyrulemonkay

You never see the Golden Wolf and the Heros Shade at the same time. Just as you never see Twilight Princess Link and Wolf Link together at the same time. The Hero’s shade can turn into the Wolf. @KryyssTV
@KryyssTV Год назад
@@hyrulemonkay That particular pattern is really very consistent across the series. I know its rooted in the "damsel in distress" trope but even with BotW where we're finally seeing Zelda manifesting her godlike powers (finally) we didn't really see Link become the hero until she'd been captured by Ganon. This is also where the notion of the "Spirit of the Hero" again suggests it is simply a figure of speech to suggest a likeness in attitude not some supernatural force. What is to be noted is that the curse upon Hyrule is rooted in heritary although there's been times where its stated that not all of the heroes are related. But with so much time passing between titles the bloodline of the original Hero no doubt runs through many Hyrulean families. And I say Hyrulean not Hylian because there are children of mixed heritage as tribes like the Sheikah and Gerudo do not limit their relationships to just their own tribe. We also don't know if Rito, Zora or Gerudo are capable of having children with the other tribes. There's really no need for reincarnation when being descended from legends. So rather than needing to conjure up some elaborate theory based upon a phrase used in a handful of games which can be taken in multiple contexts the most reasonable answer is the simplest one - heroes need to follow in the footsteps of those who came before them.
@KryyssTV
@KryyssTV Год назад
@@hyrulemonkay I was refering to the Hero of Twilight and the Hero of Time both being alive at the same time meaning that they can't both be reincarnations of the original hero. Recall that Fii only allows the "true hero" to wield the Master Sword but the Hero of Twilight was already in possession of it during their training with the Hero of Time. Therefore what she is looking for isn't some spirit of the orignal hero but rather the heart of a hero.
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
@@KryyssTV that is a valid point. there is a pattern of Heros coming to save the day only when they are most needed. Specifically the curse was set upon the bloodline of the goddess and the spirit of the hero though admittedly with SS Zelda and link, the bloodline probably already mixed with that of the hero. So it’s very likely that the Heros descendants also share the bloodline of the goddess. In a few games it’s alluded to that there are some Heros that are related (especially with the Hyrules royal guard prophesies etc. I am very fond of the idea that Zoras, and Rito and Hylians can intermix but I don’t think Gorons have genders? No idea on that one. I know some are shown inside Gerudo town where only females are allowed but if Gorons are neither and breed from the earth as some theories state who knows. I’d love to see a non Hylian hero though at this stage in the game I feel the lack of blond hair would just be off. The creators of the game however wisely left a lot of holes to see where our imaginations take us. I think the Zelda theory community as a whole somehow gets way to caught up in theories needing to be true, as opposed to the creative ways we can try to feel in those holes. As long as discussions can remain civil as ours and my other interactions have been the community grows for the better. The purpose of theory videos is not to be right but explore in differing ways how the lore can be interpreted even when it’s against the grain.

Almost as if when the spirt of the hero is not present. When hyrule needs it the Gods can birth a person who will become a hero. happens to be Link in every way… it is Link. Because sure WW link is some kid. But common some how he looks exactly like Link ? Holds master sword, no way hes just a complete random kid. That’s Link. It’s like Link is always bound to come and he’s the same every time spirit or not if he can weild the master sword. It just takes longer and more trails without the original spirt but it will be Link if he completes the trail no different than one born of spirit. Same appearance and everything. This guy is just written into destiny. If there’s an error somehow eventually he still comes. Insane..

@@hyrulemonkay Oh I figured out why I asked AI. Not only was the spirit of the hero cursed but Link was as well! So he is reincarnated as a person ! But sometimes he’s born without the spirit ! So in that case he actually wouldn’t be brave. But in a way has to prove himself and become brave. But weirdly Link as a person always had a lot of will. So link instinctively will prove himself regardless it just may take more trials. So sprit of hero link = born brave, with a heart of warrior. Without spirit Link it is still the person link but not the hero yet

I honestly much prefer the idea that the spirit of the hero refers to a certain sort of character/person rather then straight reincarnation. As for why there was 'no hero' when ganon first came back in that timeline it would simply be a matter of the royal family not recognizing this person as the hero, subsequently not letting this random sword wielding dude do the things he needs to, and never registering that he was supposed to/capable of defeat/ing the 'demon king' seriously there is no reason to think reincarnation is actually at play with this curse at all [i am not sure how canon the prequel manga could be to skyward sword but it honestly feels pretty iffy and i'm not sure where else you could have gotten the idea for Hylia to bind her soul to her chosen hero's in a potentially endless cycle of reincarnation?]; 'spirit of the hero' would mean a certain kind of character while 'blood of the goddess' is literally just a bloodline [sorry about the rant, slightly opinionated about the curse and i was expecting some actual theorizing about why there wasn't a hero in that moment not more of the 'link is reincarnating' stuff that i've grown to be annoyed by. No offense intended, fairly good video even if i disagree with the theory on a fundamental level]
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
That’s actually a really popular theory, maybe I should cover that one. Given the royal families seemed obsession with the Hero of Time, it is possible a hero did come along and not look like the typical Hero of Time. The then king refuses to allow the new blossoming hero to draw the blade to stand against Ganon. The main problem with it is it involves just as much speculation if not more, as there is no real evidence to support the existence of said hero that I have found. Outside of links family shield, which could be this unnamed hero, however it is more likely that it is a relic descended from the Minish cap Hero. Reincarnation isn’t assumed to be canon due to the iffy manga at all. It more that SS Zelda is said to be the Goddess Hylia reborn, and inherits her memories as a result. It is then I freed from there that if SS Zelda is the goddes reborn, then every Zelda is the goddes reborn which exemplifies reincarnation in the goddes Hylia. Perhaps incorrectly albeit there isn’t clear explanation one way if the other. As for the hero being a reincarnation, there are just lines in a few of the games that give some suggestion to this, but again nothing super concrete. The main one of course being Ganon stating that WW link is the Hero of Time reborn. Admittedly this can be an expression and not mean literally.
@kallistiravenhurst5232
@kallistiravenhurst5232 Год назад
@@hyrulemonkay okay I accept that one can extrapolate that all Zelda's [at least most if not all of the ones we *see*] are a line of reincarnation, potentially even to ensure that there is sufficient godly blood whenever the curse acts up. If possible I'd like someone to actually look at the reincarnating hero theory rather then merely having it be a component [and a load-bearing one at that] in a simultaneously larger and smaller theory since it always feels like it's assumed with just Demise's line of "spirit of the hero", despite the fact one can find easter eggs in some games suggesting that the previous hero is still alive and kicking [I can excuse the fact the hero's shade should technically be the twilight hero's soul via the difference between the part of the soul that reaches the after life vs the part that's reincarnated] Thank you for the reply, curious to see your insights on these matters but no need to force yourself to make a video you just can't resonate with Edit: remembered right after hitting the button; one could argue that there would have to be a Link when ganon showed up in that backstory because of the curse, just as there was clearly a Zelda [and if Zelda is actually reincarnating and not just a bloodline then you need Zelda's mother to at least sometimes not be a real Zelda even if she has the name]
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
@@kallistiravenhurst5232 Hey exactly that! In Botw Zeldas mother has sealing powers but isn’t confirmed to be an incarnation of Hylia so the bloodline definitely has some power in and of itself. So only one of those could be Hylia reincarnated. It is assumed for obvious reasons that BoTw Zelda would be the incarnation as she is the one that acts in the game. In regards to the hero reincarnation video, I think that would be an awesome idea for a video and a good challenge to conquer. If proven that the hero doesn’t reincarnate I’d love to destroy all hope of my theory being a possibility. It’s fun to just entertain and theorize and speculate, the outcome is irrelevant. Regarding the part about a hero having needed to be there according to the curse when Ganon first broke free, that depends on how quickly he broke free doesn’t it. What if the Hero of time was meant to kill Ganon when he broke free but couldn’t because Zelda sent him back in time, what if Ganon broke free just a few years or months after being sealed and Zelda had already sent the hero away? My personal canon isn’t that it was generations, but within the oot Zelda’s lifespan. Perhaps the looked for the hero of time to return because he was literally just there. But that is nothing more than speculation. They did however know that he would be back else there was no reason to break the toc to keep it from him. On another note, the only instance that I can think of immediately alluding to the hero being alive and well is the old man we fight in A Link Between Worlds where we assume that we are fighting the Hero of A Link to the Past. Admittedly the timeline has been rather jankily put together around those two games so it’s hard to say what exactly is happening. Are there any other instances I am failing to recall?

@@hyrulemonkay I, sadly, do not have the google-fu or obscene amounts of money to do a proper deep-dive of where one can see likely candidates for previous heroes and only learned about the ALttP one via someone else's theory video. As for likely timing for when Ganon broke free the first time it feels like there had to have been at least one generation given WW shows a version of zelda that could either be Tetra pre-being sent to the great sea or could be her mother/grandmother and that person is definitely Not OoT Zelda. Personally I feel that the picture showing hyrulian royal family variants of Tetra's pirate crew is their ancestors because otherwise they would have either known about the whole Zelda thing [which they definitely don't] or you need to explain an entire ships' worth of amnesia cases without any allusion to it. [also the event of ganon breaking out is a legend, particularly framed as one that maybe not everyone knows so it definitely can't be that Tetra is the Zelda in the portrait in my mind just so there's time for these legends to be Legends and not recent history] Right, the reason I feel it can't be OoT Zelda is because she was of the approximate age of Young Zelda [when Link first meets her] but wore a very different outfit. Game Logic dictates that this is character coding to show that these are likely two different people. Perhaps the traditional dress for a princess of hyrule changed to reflect the outfit Zelda wore when she and link 'triumphed' against ganon? // there's also a complete lack of characters to stand in for the crew during link's time and while it could be game-limits that feels like a flimsy answer here
@hyrulemonkay
@hyrulemonkay Год назад
@@kallistiravenhurst5232 For sure that is a great point! That picture found in Wind Waker Hyrule castle would necessitate at least a daughter of OOT Zelda being in that photo. King daphnes no Hansen Hyrule could be the husband of oot Zelda, or a potential descendant. We don’t know. But the Zelda in the painting is assuredly a descendant of that Zelda as she seems younger than the Princess of oot would be. Enough time had passed for the castle to be rebuilt and the master sword moved there since it was no longer guarding the sacred realm. It could have been in oot Zeldas lifetime, having passed the Tow to her daughter and sent her away on a ship to go fight Ganon to buy time, or it could have been many. Who knows. Be careful to note that the story we get of legend is stated from one of the islanders perspective (perhaps the grandmas) it is a legend to them. But the people of Hyrule mentioned in the legend revered the hero of time as a fact, not a legend, they knew he had existed and had saved them once before. Also consider the discord if you use it. Much easier to converse there as images can be used and I love your use of Google-Fu hahahahaha

I don't Link gets reincarnated. The Twilight Princess wouldn't be able to talk to the past Link. The soul gets reborn they would be the same soul in a different body unknowing that that past last existed. To links even a past Link wouldn't be able to exist at the same time. So it seems more like a different soul but a descendant

Lot of controversy with this one, time travel is a mysterious thing. It works differently in each universe it appears in, and the Zelda universe seems to not have clear rules for how it works.
