As a beekeeper and drone enthusiast, I've noticed that several so-called bee attacks have actually been honey bee drones (male honey bees) investigating or possibly attempting to mate with quads. Male honey bees gather in congregations waiting for virgin queens to to fly by...they give chase and mate mid-flight. Is it possible that the low frequency noise of the drone is similar to that of a queen bee prompting a frenzied mating attempt? I keep africanized bees and have flown my drone through my apiary and haven't had one such attack. There's no doubt though, if I fly close enough to the hive entrances that it would initiate an attack.
Insane. I had no idea this was a common thing. Today a swarm of bees surrounded my mavic mini 3. I managed to fly away from the huge swarm but one lone bee kept following the drone right before I landed. Unfortunately he got sliced. Now I have guts all over my drone.
finally, people are catching on. I have bee hives. I posted a video many, many years ago of My pet bees attacking my quadcopters. I have had many types of Quads. My bees attack drones, they seem to dislike the sound. my bee's have a kind of highway they follow. even if I stay out of the highway they still attack the drone. But I have noticed they are more likely to attack smaller Quadcopters vs Larger Quadcopters.
Just happened to me about 20 minutes ago. I was flying around and out of nowhere a single bee came but was quickly obliterated about 10 seconds later there were 10 so I flew quite fast over around 400meters to return and they followed no wonder as I live in Southern Africa and our only common bee is the Africanized-killer bee. But once I reached the ground they left and I made the mistake of taking off again. I wish I had an umbrella, but as soon as they returned I landed. (Not that many casualties) I’m flying a DJI mini-2
