I've been wearing head wraps since the late 80's, beginning when I was in college, and I can honestly say that when I do wear one I do feel regal. I also feel as though I'm making a LOUD N' CLEAR statement. I wear my heritage proudly. :)

Yesss Ms. Lady, you are going through a spiritual change. I have been feeling the same way, first I started wearing them for protective styling but then I started to feel different, like you mentioned like a Queen, it's a deep spiritual connection. We are the original Queens, that's why you feel this way because this is how we are suppose to be. This is our history. You are a Black Queen, I hope all black women start to wear them with much pride. Again, this is who we are. Wrapping my hair gives me life and I feel so powerful and beautiful. It's mentioned in the bible about women of GOD wrapping the hair. You can also see your natural beauty when your hair is wrapped. Why would anyone care about what people think? They are going to stare because it looks royal and beautiful to them as well. I think it gets people thinking about our real inheritance. I notice white people staring the most but they don't look at me mean but like "Oh she knows who she really is". We are Beautiful Queens!!!! OH, I also notice that men of all colors gives me a lot more respect and attention.

With the many different African methods of adorning hair its another way for us diasporic Africans to hold on to what ever bits of heratage we can learn about and adopt...plus it straight up makes me walk different, my stride goes from 0-100 lol

I don't know how I fell into this video but I love it. I'm 100 years older than you :) with a huge, wild, platinum and 5 shades of gray curly afro - and I love it. I connect with you (and every other black woman) through our shared experience. I love to wrap my hair, I always have. I love to see other black women with wrapped heads. It is who we are, it is a symbol of our beauty and our uniqueness. Headwraps are to be worn with pride and I appreciate you bringing that to our attention.

I resonate with this topic so much. I'm in my early 20s and I just started wearing head wraps because I genuinely like how I look and feel when i wear them but I was kind of questioning if I should feel out of place or if it's appropriate and if it makes others uncomfortable. But as soon as you said, "Its aesthetic" and you feel safe and confident and unique, that's when it clicked for me that those are the exact ways that I feel when I wrap my hair. Its like you said, it's not that I don't like my hair I just feel a bit more unique and confident in that uniqueness as well as safe and protected in a way. Thank you for making me feel that and realize that.

I know this video is 3 years old but I just came across it. I absolutely feel the same way. I have been wrapping my head for about 3 years now and at first people thought i was going crazy. I actually started doing it bc I was being lazy and didn't want to do my hair. Well that turned into an everyday thing and I love my wraps. I have over 50 different fabrics and I just wear a new one everyday. Everyone has their own reason why they wrap but nevertheless it feels empowering.

I have been wearing head scarfs since 2007 and it was one of the best thing I did for myself, I feel beautiful when I put it on , I can keep my hair cleaner , protect from sun rays, don’t have to spend so much money on styling gels, it brings out the outfit you’re wearing, put a beautiful glow on every lady face that wants to put it on and on top of that you can wear it different ways. I wrap my hair 7 days a week 365 days a year , I’m a humongous fan of head scarfs, and reading other people’s experience with them on get a lot of attention and stares, because I get it as well LOL!!!!

My mother started wrapping my hair for me each Saturday due to the fact that we are Christians and more specifically Christian Israelites to deter confusion. We read and follow the bible as it is written. As a result the female population in my church always cover our head during prayer and durring prophecy as it is written in 1 Corinthians 11:2-16. At first I covered my hair out of obligation but in the 11th grade I found the liberation which the scarf or hardcovering ignited within me. during that time I was going through some tough social changes and in high school that was a big deal for my younger self. So to help over come my lacking social life and hurtful relations I rested my problems to Gods feet and read the bible and increased my prayer life. due to the fact that women should pray with their heads covered and i wanted to pray all the time i started wearing a scarf daily. i loved it. i felt confident and so close to God. i wear my scarf becase it makes me feel angelic as the bible described. i feel powerful and simply at ease as i wear my scarf. as a result it is an addition I find myself with often. So that is why I wear a scarf/head covering/hair wrap.

Oh this video is LIFE, you should reshare this on all your social media, I and many having been hearing the call to veil, my reason is as the energy on this planet increases I feel melanated women ar being pulled in all directions, people trying to suck the life out of us. I have been feeling the call for a couple of years. So I did a little test I wrapped my head at home and went about my business, my head got warm, hmm ok then all of a sudden my 3rd eye and crown chakras started to buzz. I was coming back to my natural energy and I loved it. So for me it is getting and protecting my natural cosmic energy, and I feel regal and powerful. I am partial to turbans and the Jewish sinar tichels (feminine and pretty). But please share this many young to old would love to see our face representing wraps for the same reason as you. Much love 💖💖💖

I understand how you feel! I feel very safe and beautiful when my hair is wrapped. I had some apprehensive comments from my family and mother (they are not black) about wrapping my hair because we live in a small midwestern town and they were afraid that racist people would have another thing to point out about me. But I have been wrapping my hair at night and during lazy days at home in pretty styles for years and feel beautiful that way, so why not wear them out during the day? Peace and Love, Denali

So, I'm not black, but I love when black women wrap their hair and I've always wanted to do it too. I've done it around the house but never in public because I'm afraid that people will call me out for being a white girl wrapping her head. I'm half Choctaw Native American and half Scottish, but to be honest I look pretty bland. I just want to know how people feel about this? Since I'm mixed race I feel like I'm not allowed to aesthetically show it since I don't "appear" to look "ethnic". But I suppose the head wrap appeals to me for the same reasons you mention in the video, it looks regal, and hidden and beautiful and I love it.

Hey Danielle, Woman all over the world for thousands of years have been using headwraps. So wether it's just for putting on around the house, or when going out....Feel free too! My Self, I am a NZ European and part south african, I've been wanting to wrap my hair for a long time (because at my school we have to wear uniform; no wraps etc) So for me personally I know it's going to take some courage to go out with my hair wrap; but I feel so empowered and strong! So .... therefore... You do you girl! If it makes you feel strong wear it! Don't be worried about wearing it!!!! Love from a worldwide sister xx

Did a big chop 4 months ago and my hair is in that weird uneven stage. Wigs don’t work for me and is a lot of maintenance and I can only do braids for so long. So I bought two turbans to wrap my hair as a protective style that is stylish yet no maintenance. I’m about to lay my edges and throw my scarf on every day

Thank you for this video. I'm a white woman, originally from a white part of my state, and I recently moved to a predominantly black part of the same state. I've been seeing black women wrap their hair like this, and I wanted to know why they did that. I wasn't sure if it had a religious meaning, or it was something else. Thank you for explaining what it means to you. The last thing I wanted to do is ask someone an insensitive question or wonder silently about it for years.

Hey!!! 🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️To answer your question since nobody else did lol...During slavery Black women, especially the ones that worked in the house were forced to cover their heads as a part of the "uniform" as well as a means of subjugation. It was also done to protect their hair from the harsh southern sun while working outside and lice.. This was enforced on many southern plantations for many different reasons. Also, in certain slave holding states it was required by law for both enslaved and free Black women to cover their heads with wraps because white women felt the intricate styles and various textures of black women's hair would "distract" white men.. South Carolina and Louisiana made this a law while other states just forced them to do so.. Instead of letting those laws hurt us it was turned into a style and a way to express ourselves through beauty. Black women in the Caribbean also did so for similar reasons as well. African women on the continent wrap their heads for tribal distinctions and special occasions . Headwraps orgininated in Suburban Africa.

Yes girl that was SO on point! I feel like mutha fuckin queen myself when I wrap my hair. I used to only do it around the house at night for bed, but the first time I wore it out in public was when I went for a pedicure and I tied a pink T shirt in a front bun on my head to match my pink leggings I wore and completed it with big hoop earrings and sheer pink lip gloss and all those Chinese women kept telling me how cute I was. I didn't tell them it was just a T shirt 😊 but it made my confidence grow about wearing my headwrap in public.

Shanti girl, you took the words out my mouth. I feel the exact same way! I am growing out the same haircut as you and so I am trying to be creative with my hairstyles. I live in Spain right now and I recently went out in public with my hair wrapped like yours in this video, and people here were really feeling it! I got called, "guapa"( which means beautiful) a couple of times while walking down the street. This was particularly interesting since Spain is a very homogenous country and there aren't many women walking around that look like me. I naturally stand out, so with my hair wrapped up I stand out even more. But like you said, I felt more regal and empowered when I had my hair wrapped. I too feel myself going through a transformation while living here(which is basically the reason I moved to Spain), and wearing my hair wrap just feels right at this moment. I should also say that even when I lived in NYC for 5 years, I never felt this empowered to wear my hair wrapped. Anyway, I could go on and on, but thanks for the video! Needless to say, I completely relate! XO P.S. I absolutely love your videos. You're hysterical.

Im jewish and gonna start covering my hair regularly after i get married. Right now i only cover when my hair is a mess, but it feels amazing to do so. One perspective is that there is a "halo" of attractiveness directly above a woman's hair and when she covers the hair and halo, she shows her inner beauty more strongly than just physical beauty.

I don't wrap my hair usually. but I would and do wrap it every night. with that being said I want nice scarves to wrap my hair in. if I can find nice ones I would wear my head wrap out. because it feels natural. Also I feel the same way about natural hair and curls it just feels more powerful, more me, more authentic, more black girl, and more like I'm embracing me. it feels great. it feels different. it feels beautiful. And it feels like this is part of our culture. weird but true. also I checked out the website for the company you mentioned and I love them yayyyyyyy. Awesome. :) I'm gonna start wearing wraps more.

A white girl here, have always wanted to wrap my hair but afraid of the discrimination, and don’t want to be offending anyone, but my natural hair is huge and curly and frizzy and messy so I would love be able to just control it and not worry about it I shaved most of it down to an inch now. I think the wraps looks beautiful. Any thoughts on someone like me wearing a wrap?

I used to think wrapping my hair was so ghetto and tacky. So I would relax it. My hair hates relaxers. Now I want to wrap my hair on a daily basis. Feel n strong and regal!!

+around the way curls :( I know! I really want to try it as I love the way you style yours! I love your style!! Also, I just recently moved back to the UK from NY and I'm currently in my hermit crab state of mind, and want to hide myself from the world, until I'm ready to reveal the REAL me. So your video just helped give me inspiration and encouragement that its ok to be introverted at times. Thank You!

+Markeya H I think it's important that we obey those internal compulsions. In many cultures clothing, colors, stylings etc are always reflective of some type of life change whether it be motherhood, priesthood or becoming a widow etc. Allow yourself the creative and emotional space to represent yourself fully to the world! You know! Im so happy to hear you feel inspired!

I wrap my hair as a protective style because I’m allergic to wigs their putting chemicals in it that cause my head to itch and break out in rashes and made my edges fall out. Since I started wearing scarves/head wraps my hair is Flawless and feeling like the hands of God has just restored my head completely and I know He has because my hair is growing and looking healthy and feeling healthy and I know it’s healthy! Wraps all of the way in the cold, hot, warm windy weather you’ll see me in one. I rarely wear my hair out I have to know the weather is just right or I won’t leave without it on. I wear silk mostly but change up to cloth now and again😁 my boyfriend finds it sexy that I wear scarfs. Ive never felt confident about my hair which is why I spent my life wearing fake hair extensions and wearing relaxers and going to wigs my mom never made me feel like my hair was beautiful she treated like something that needed to be hid and never shown to the public. Until after I graduated college I had a wake up call when my hair was coming out in big clumps from the chemicals and I was crying because I thought it was falling from the roots but it was actually from the border of my natural hair and relaxed hair (it broke off from the border) I big chopped at this point and been proud of my hair ever since the change!

I didn't realize how old this was lol because it resonates so much with me! I have sister Locs but I never covered my hair before I always had them out, swangin lol. But this past week I just got a heavy feeling to start covering my hair. Just like you said I feel beautiful and regal but also protected and reserved. I think for me it's definitely coming up as a part of my journey because I'm going through a lot lol and idk if you know this but our hair is like neurotransmitters so they pick up on frequency I thot that protective feeling is from not having such a heightened disturbance from others energies or at least protecting our own. Maybe it's just me because people are physically drawn to me when my hair is out they stand too close or try to touch me, it's wired. Also, more importantly I feel like I'm being selective of what I want expose my crown to. Like I may have my hair out off work or while I meditate to connect with myself better and higher energies. Instead of picking up the energetic debris. Thanks so much for sharing this!

This is probably gonna sound so stupid, but where do people get their wraps and scarfs from? I've always felt insecure when I cover my hair because I feel like my head is big and I need to glam it up with make up or earrings, and I can't do make up to save my life, but I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and start wearing wraps and see how it feels. But I'm not sure where to get any nice patterned ones from.

Yallll i have a question though! Am ai culturally appropriating if I wear one? I do at home but not in public because I’m not trying to get shade thrown at me. HOWEVER, some Indian women of the Sikh religion wear turbans but that’s for religious reasons. I do it to protect my hair and it’s honestly just really empowering to me. Oh yeah, if you can’t tell from my picture I’m Indian

All though I am categorize as Caucasian my distant relatives are of African dissent. I have very curly hair and have wanted to try wrapping my hair just as an easy to tame it. However, I am scared that will offend someone. Would it be considered racist for me to wear a wrap???
