Hmmm. One of the best takes on the issue. No emotional appeals to freedom and stoking the fears of government control. Right on the money: governments want to have full control over currency. Also, let's not forget that governments always print new money. They do that to control inflation in the event of economic growth. As the new wealth needs to be balanced by the new money to stabilize prices, governments printing money is essentially an indirect appropriation of economic growth and a tax on money holding, which is a big revenue item for every government, and they are not giving it up so easily. Hence no cryptocurrencies.
