Thanks Fr. Little. That was one of the best and most concise explanation or description of the Dominican habit. I saw a video or TV program (maybe on EWTN?), where the Dominican priest told a story about being at a fast food place ( like McDonald’s). There was this young boy with a Star Wars light sabre. The boy asked the Dominican priest if he was a Jedi! 😳🤣
I think someone had the same experience at a friary near me. He was a Third Order Dominican and he was in the chapel during Christmas season, a kid went to the small Nativity scene near the sanctuary and questioned the friar, “Where is baby Jesus’ gifts?” Then the friar looked at the Nativity scene and realized that they forgot to put the incense, myrrh, and gold there. He thought that the child would ask what he was wearing(because most priests here are normally not part of an order. They’re secular/diocesan priests), why are there statues of the saints, or why do we wake up at 3am to go to Mass(Yes, there is a tradition here to wake up early for Mass). When he said it during his New Year homily, the congregation went laughing, even us in the altar server area.

Thank you father for the explanation, would be great to hear about the colours black and white but I guess that would require to explain the dominican cross or crest which would be more fitting in a different question
#askafriar I find myself adding on more and more intentions when praying (e.g., the Rosary). I keep thinking from a materialistic perspective and wonder if adding so many intentions will "dilute" the efficacy of the prayers.

#AskAFriar Why does your cappuce look different from other cappuce? For example, look at the cappuce of a dominican and the cappuce of a Franciscan. The cappuce of a Dominican is less rigid and flowy, while the cappuce of the franciscans I know is rigid and in the hood is conical of shape.
And Franciscans are Jedi!!! Why, because Friars (both Dominican and Franciscan) are the most awesome ambassadors of Jesus Christ and everyone secretly wishes they were one. 🙌❤️👍
