My Dad had his back crushed in Hillsborough as he had his feet up on the blue bars and knew if he removed them he would be dead. Because he decided he would rather live and return home to his wife and 4 young children, he is now disabled and constantly having to fight to receive any benefit because he is in no fit state to work anymore. He performed CPR on people , dragged bodies down steps and slapped a young officer who was in shock. He did not seek medical attention and his way of dealing with it was to try and forget it happened. I was only born in 1994 so I never knew my Dad before this but I have been told that he was never the same after it. Every time he heard YNWA playing he would change the channel. The first time he managed to listen to it was when he finally decided to attend one of the memorials at Anfield after almost 20 years. He still suffers badly with survivors guilt and PTSD and has admitted that some nights he would go to sleep hoping he would not wake up in the morning. I found out years later that he had helped pull out at least one of the Hicks girls and held one of their hands as they were dying (I'm not sure which one as I'm reluctant to bring it up with him). We were watching ITV News the day the truth was "revealed" and it showed a slideshow of pictures of the people who died and when the faces of the Hicks girls came on screen my Dad just slammed his fist and was very emotional. To this day I think it is the only time I have ever seen my Dad cry and this is a man who did not cry at the funeral of both his parents (he keeps it inside). If I had any association with the Sun, even just giving them an interview, I know my Dad would never speak to me again. I would not blame him either. My Dad also said he was offered compensation at the time by police or something and he turned them down saying he did not want their blood money. I'm proud of him.

My mum had a small shop on the Warrington Road in the village of Rainhill (it is now a restaurant and art gallery). I was a survivor of Hillsborough (I was crushed, placed in the recovery position near the rear of the goal and at one point stamped on by a uniformed pig - I still have the clear imprint of the tread of sole of his boot on my body after 31 years). I am now severely disabled as a result of the crush injuries I received. I was taken into the gym at Hillsborough, I received no medical attention other than from fellow fans. I was still lying there at 11:47pm when 2 lads came in looking for their friend, one of them noticed that I was still breathing and asked why I hadn't been taken to the hospital, the uniformed cop told them that if I couldn't stand up then I was going to be left there to die (yes he actually told them that). Those lads pulled me to my feet took one arm each and said "she's standing, we're taking her". The cop tried to stop them but changed his mind when he saw my eyes were open and I was crying and managed to say that I wanted to go home (at least that is what he said later). Those lads took me all the way home on the train, no one asked for our tickets, and the conductor was really nice, he kept coming up to make sure I was ok. I managed to tell them where I lived and they carried me to my mum and dad. They explained as much as they could and my mum let them phone their families and then fed them and put them up for the night. Our lovely GP came out when my mum called him and said I should be in hospital as I had multiple crush injuries and broken ribs. I refused to go, I wanted to die at home and not in a hospital with strangers. A few days later my mum had gotten me a wheelchair from a lady we knew. The lady refused to let my mum pay for it. She didn't want me to be alone so she took me to the shop while she opened up and took in the deliveries (she usually opened about 5:30am - 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year with only Christmas Day off - it was her own business and she was a hard worker). The scum paper was delivered and as soon as I saw the front page I screamed and couldn't stop crying. It was all lies. I told her that it was lies and she dumped the rag behind the counter and when people came in wanting a copy she said it hadn't been delivered. The following day she returned the entire delivery and refused to take the Scum and any of the so-called "news"papers from the same company. 3 days later she was told that until she "adjusted [her] attitude" she was blacklisted and would no longer get any newspaper or magazine deliveries. She was also told that she would have to write a letter to be published in the Scum apologising and saying that I was a liar and the Scum was telling the truth. My mum - all 4 foot 11 of her - shot round the counter, grabbed hold of the 2 suits that were making these demands and bodily through them out of the door telling them that if they ever came back she would do more that throw them out. Mrs Welsby, who owned the pie shop across the road came running over to see what was wrong and my mum told her. I loved Mrs Welsby and her husband. It was at this point that my mum asked me to show Mrs Welsby my back and I found out about the size 14 boot print over my ribs. My mum's little business was put at risk because she boycotted the Scum, that evening she removed the word "newsagent" from her shop and became just a sweet shop. She did well as people knew us and, it being a village, everyone heard about the blacklisting and my injuries. She was such a wonderful person that people would make a bee-line for the shop to get their goodies before getting the train to work. Every so often someone would come in and say "aren't you taking this too far, Marie". My mum would look at me and say to them "ask her". Strangely they never did. I adored my mum and sadly lost her this year (2020) ... she died on April 15th ... the anniversary of Hillsborough. I would like to thank Mike and Alan who saved my life that day by getting me up on my feet and then home, along with the person who tried to keep me up and stopped me from sinking below the crowd when my foot slipped off the terrace stepping and I was going under. The unknown people who got me out of the pen and on to the pitch and those who stretchered me to the gym thinking we would get help. Understand - if you were taken to the gym, unless someone got you to your feet you were left to die there. I wish the "eclipse the sun" guys had been around at the start when my mum was blacklisted for refusing to sell the scum paper - at least she wouldn't have felt that she was fighting the world all on her own. Please don't buy the scum paper, they have never properly apologised, and after their lies were proven their former editor kelvin muckraker mackenzie tried to say that he was the victim of hillsborough.

Once upon a time yea, the Sun was the worst paper, now, it's only as bad as any other paper. That's how bad things have gotten. And the bizarre thing is, in the Hillsborough days, most people couldn't have instant access to someone standing within 5 feet recording teh whole ordeal on a phone camera, so now there is even less reason to lie since it's so easy to call it out... But alas. All papers are shite. Only the sports pages [barely] are worth reading.

Fantastic video lads. I'll be sure to keep the link to this copied somewhere for the next person that asks why I have so much Venom for the S*n - it's amazing how many football fans, and especially fellow redmen are unaware of how abhorrent that rag is.

I was buying the sun in my teens (in the early noughties) until I found out more detail about the disaster as a whole. Think it was in about 2008 or 2009 when more documentaries about were on TV and coincidentally loads of “money off” coupons for the sun were being posted out at the time. Since I found out about that article I have never bought or read the sun, even refused free offering of it at my local newsagent recently for that very reason. How disgusting can you get when so many people went to watch a football match and never came home. One is too many but this was 96!!! Plus all the others who were seriously traumatised from it, I would of been too. Clearly the South Yorkshire police should take responsibility for appointing a commander who nothing about football. I am so ashamed I’ve actually bought the sun newspaper a few times and feel very guilty, guess all I can do now is just not buy it. I am a Hull City fan living in North Yorkshire, but understand the compassion with football, especially during the recent Euro 2020 with England being so close. If ever there are further campaigns to eclipse the sun, I will support and take part.

If I ran out of toilet roll I'd rather walk around with a shitty arse than wipe it with the Sun.

Hello to all fellow 'REDS' 96 Liverpool Football Club fans lost their lives at a football match at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield 31 years-ago ... I wrote a tribute song in memory of all those that lost their lives on that awful Apri day entitled '96 Angels Dressed In Red' and later was invited to send a CD for each of the ninety-six families that had lost loved ones. Here, as the sad anniversary of that April day nears-once-again, are the lyrics of my song - Ninety-Six Angels in Heaven Dressed in Red. It was an ordinary Saturday, in nineteen eighty-nine They came to watch the Red-Men play, with quality-sublime They came by the thousand, to watch a football game But few-knew what-was-happening around the Leppings Lane! Twenty four thousand came that day, to see the ‘Reds’ But ninety-six did not go home that night to their-own beds A monumental tragedy occurred that April day And ninety-six new-angels came, through Heaven’s gates to stay Chorus Middle-Eight Ninety-six angels, in Heaven dressed-in-red Ninety-six new-angels there, cos’ somebody said “Open-up that Leppings Gate, we can’t hold them back for long” Somebody, one day must say, “We are sorry - we were wrong” Instrumental Break The years have flown and life goes on, and ‘time’ will always pass But we will not forget the ‘Reds’ laid on that Hillsboro’ grass We’ll honour and remember them, their each and every name Each one of them, who loved the ‘Reds’ who play the ‘beautiful’ game Now by the Anfield-Shankly-Gates, an Eternal-Flame burns bright It will burn for ever-more, throughout the day and night In memory-of, the ninety-six, gone to their Heavenly home Ninety-six red angels who sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ Chorus Middle-Eight Repeated Somebody one day must say “We are sorry we were wrong” Written and sung by ‘Jed Ford’
