My go to remedy bc I didn’t have the money, was to put a single piece of clear packaging tape directly over the spot on my heel where there was friction. Helped tremendously!

In cricket, ive seen fast bowlers cut out holes where the big toe is. This is avoid their big toe to hit against the inside of the shoe while running full tilt till 'delivery' (=pitch in baseball).

Hopefully boots in tbe future would be designed to accommodate this!

I did this soooo many times. I have that condition and i was so tired of it I literally just got that bone removed surgically.

This has plagued me all my life! Never ever considered just cutting a whole in my boots. I've got a few spare pairs lying around that I could just never break in, time to get the blade out.

it's called Haglund's deformity and is something that can affect anyone for a number of different reasons, I myself have suffered with this for the better part of a decade, having 3 surgical procedures to remove the excess bone growth and trust me when I say, it's left me almost debilitated, I can no longer run, I struggle to even walk properly anymore, and it's something I'm gonna have to live with for the rest of my life, not even morphine pain killers can help me sometimes.

I had this condition and finally got total relief via surgery.

My father was in youth squad of Galatasaray in the late 60's 70's. He told me they'd give new boots to them for them to stretch them out to be ready to be used by the A team :)

Those Hagland deformities will eat their Achilles after a while. I lost 3 inches of my right Achilles to that condition.

I have seen a few players, in particular playing for Dortmund last season, who cut slits in the back of their socks. Bellingham and Adeyemi were two I can think of. Why is this? Socks too tight possibly?

I have developed this problem at age 35. Being obese and running hard on a hard surface doesn't help. If you're heavy try to avoid playing on concrete. I might have to try this out hopefully it helps

Some peoples heel bone grows with a bump where the tendon connects which can lead to worse rubbing so people cut holes to allow it not to rub and also temp. Control so they feet can breath

Id do it to have more accurate heel hits or shots

I have a Tip If U have Football Boots that are only a Millimeter bigger then youre foot then xou can Put IT in hot water then wear IT for 10 minutes IT will get the Form as youre foot

i say they developed it through many hours on those boots!

The real reason is that they choose the supplier that pays the best, even if they make crappy shoes!

I have same issue. The more you wear hard or leather shoes, the worse it gets. Can't even order them online because you never know how it will feel.
