The art is a reflection of the reality and the real life it's hard for many people out there (or as many sport dudes say: 'No pain no gain'), so that's the magic of some "not perfect" guitars like Les Paul's and others. Its "imperfection" in that guitar is like the imperfection of the human being, it makes them "different", and moves the brain into hard work. If it is "perfect" maybe will turn boring (for some). Some players need that "barrier", that challenge to accomplish their goal. We need to find which kind of musician we are to know which guitar we need. But talking 'bout music, if it is only to "looks cool" then no need to play anything, go to fashion place lol. Nice show, great pedals dudes.

Great show! I enjoyed the segment on innovation. Its a polarizing subject and your arguments are solid. With that being said, I've had my Parker for 20+ years and I'll never sell it.

I like innovation. Innovate away but don't mess with my tube amp! On a different Q&A topic, are beards mandatory if one wanted to get a job at Mythos? Loving the episodes. 👍

Dude Ranch is so good. When i was in 7th and 8th grade (2000/2001), i listened to that album a lot. I"ve listened to it many, many times since then too, but i have found other frequent rotation music/bands to replace it.

Enjoying the show that I find informative and interesting subjects…. just a bit of an observation that may be helpful and I I mention it only to help, I also know there is some learning curves of being on camera etc, IMHO Matthew tends to talk over Zach to the point it’s noticeable. Not horribly but noticeable. I know things will get its flow and takes time. Again just trying to help and give some info that might make the show better.

Good and interesting episode! I have some thoughts on the innovation argument. Perhaps we should turn it on its head and briefly consider the Guitar's place in pop music for the last century of music making and its context in instrument development. What I'm trying to say is, why do we feel the need to innovate the guitar at all? The modern trumpet evolved from the bugle to become a chromatic instrument in the 19th century and was finally able to be incorporated in to Symphonic/orchestral pieces and eventually jazz/pop music after that. The saxophone was invented by Adolf Sax in the late 19th century. Even the piano didn't exist in its current form during the time of Bach. What Im arguing is that no one worries about innovation in the world of Trumpets/Saxophones/violins or pianos. Those instruments have all reached a level of "Classical Period" in which the given strengths and weaknesses of the instrument, its tonality, timbre, and range are all understood. But to drastically change those parameters takes away from the overall feel of what makes those instruments what they are. I would argue that the guitar world has a weird obsession with innovation because it was a product of the electrical age and can be manipulated beyond just its acoustic properties. But also guitar was the primary compositional element for popular music other than piano for the last 75 years. The reality is that, that isn't the case any more. The guitar is an important element in music now of course, but most pop music is composed in an electronic/keyboard instrument. The electric guitar has begun to enter its "classic" phase. There are certainly modern "improvements" such as tuning that can be applied to new guitars, but they take away from the essence of the guitar in its "classic" form. I would argue that for those people who still play guitar, we are searching to play and sound like the "classic" period which requires gear that can achieve that. Whether that means a tweed to sound like Neil Young or a Hiwatt to sound like Gilmore or on and on, that's the goal. That's why Bonamassa plays instruments from the "classical" period, golden age Fenders and Gibsons. If you are looking to truly innovate, there are synthesized sounds that can be achieved electronically or thru sampling or computer generated AI that allow a producer to create a "perfectly intonated" guitar sound using their keyboard and CPU processor. They never even have to learn how to fret an instrument. So a "Modern" guitar exists in a weird realm in which only real guitar players can play them, but they are looking to go beyond the "classical" period. Im glad they are out there, but I imagine the guitar is going to slowly evolve into a similar place as other instruments like trumpet, violin, piano, etc.

This is so on point…and for what it’s worth, I’ve yet to come across tuning problems that can’t be remedied by a bit of work on the nut, bridge, saddles and action. I would say that I have nothing against innovative guitars but they are never going to replace the classics, they exist as modern variants…and that is all they need to be. I drive a modern car, I love the innovations in cars over the last 50-60 years, but I love the classics as they are and would drive one as my daily if I could afford it

28:25 Why we dumb? there's plenty of innovation that should be commonplace in expensive guitars right from the factory these days: magnificent, spotless, cleass-leadinh, no-one-on-earth-coul-ever-improve-on-this magnetic and electronic shielding in all cavities and pick-ups that has no negative impact on the tone, for instance. If the customers weren't such luddites, Fender and Gibson wouldn't be selling a single guitar with the current basic Breadboard-level electronics

We live in the golden age of gear. You can get whatever you want and sound like whatever you want with ease these days. People need to stop caring so much about what other people are playing and go find/play what they like instead...

Trends have cycles, for example in the 1980s and part of 1990s, Fender and Gibson were NOT cool. Kramer, Ibanez, Jackson and other similar guitars ruled the trends.
