Please be cautious of wood worms on wood flooring in Portugal. They will destroy it. It can be treated for an added expense but wood worm and boring wood insects are very prevalent in Portugal and will eventually destroy your new wood floors. Please consider ceramic wood look floors as an alternative. Wood worm and wood boring insects are why you see tile as such a prevailing choice in Portugal. Best wishes. Love the progress.

I'm glad you have a mask John. I have watched you cutting timber outdoors without one. You do need it there too. I did the same as you over the years. 2 Years after retirement, I got a chest infection and I was diagnosed with a lung disease called Bronchiectasis due to inhaling dust over the years. Now I have breathing issues day and night. Outdoors may seem safe without a mask but it isn't.

I am amazed how much John achieves with basically DIY tools. Your boys are scrumptious.

OMG! Aren't you productive? Another cool video? Thank you for sharing all of the details of your build! I've been watching Brittany and Drew renovate their stone watermill! Watching the construction is facinating as the method of construction is not what I am used to. They are installing their electrical and plumbing in their stone walls too! Their home is looking so good too! I was watching a program of an early colonial American town and some of the homes had a similar stone with white mortar walls that you have! Cool design connection! Yikes! The plumbing and insects! Your extra home is really shaping up! There are always delays! I love your wood siding too! Yes, a N95 filter in a mask is really necessary when working with that much dust! Save the lungs! Love your little helpers! What great neighbors❣️

You actually have a smaller bathroom than I do! I would never have believed it possible! Suggestion: hang cupboards, with see through fronts, from the ceiling around the room with flip up doors like you'd find in a camper van. You'll have a step stool for Caruso to get to the top bunk. Use it also to access the cupboards around the room. They'll be high enough that you won't hit your head, but enough to put all your clothes in. The two or three cupboards over the bunk beds can hold kids clothes. Also, consider sliding drawers on wheels to slide under your bed! (Again like a camper van) John, who has nothing to do 😂 , could easily build those in nothing flat. I think this would solve the lack of wardrobe issue! My other suggestion is for the kitchen. Build a flip up table attached to the wall for work space when needed, but flip it down when you don't! Ok, that's worked my brain as far as it can go today. I hope that helps. 🤷

We live in Florida and termites are a real problem and we have a 100 year old wooden house. So almost the whole infrastructure needed to be replaced, prior to closing things up we pasted Borax on all the wood. It has been 18 years, knock on wood and so far no termites. I highly recommend pre treating all your wood before closing up.

Hi John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer……I have a double storage bed…..they are great…. The whole bottom of it lifts up on gas struts and you can utilise the space for lots of stuff! The boys will love bunk beds and yes extra storage underneath them as well. Your build is coming along so well…little mishaps are bound to happen Tara! All will be fine in the end! Hello once again John and Tara. First of all, I must share the best moment for me, from today's video: Right at the end, Sawyer walking with only one boot. It just "killed" me! Anyway, regarding the project, as John was piercing the bathroom door, I was like "wait... how thick is that wall?" Anyway, as I watched the small dimensions of the toillet, I started to wonder about the disposition of it's components, and sudenly I remembered the bathroom of my hostel room, the first time I went to Prague, wich only had a toillet seat and a lavatory. I was puzzled on where the shower was. Turns out, the entire bathroom was the shower. The drain in the middle, with the door slightly elevated from floor level, to prevent water from exiting. This way you could place the toilet seat at the end wall instead of the side one. You would gain a lot of space, and could even make a balcony for the sink. Just a thought. I keep wishing you all the best, and I'm totally hooked on your videos, waiting for new developments. For now, that's all, and I'm already eager for sunday! I so enjoy seeing Obi running around the farm. Like I said in a previous message. My Dog Domino died May 5. He was a border collie too. I hear you say, Tara that he brings a lot of joy to your lives. The same with my Domino. I still cry when I think about him. I was with him petting him when I saw him struggling to breath. I love animals like you do Tara and he’s left a void in my life. I know eventually I’ll be better. Like the Bible says, this too shall pass. But I don’t feel better now, and it’s really nice to see your dog running around breathing and playing with the kids. Border collies aren’t vicious dogs or watch dogs. They are herders. Our dog used to herd My Son. I would say Domino go get Michael, he’d go get them and bring him back holding onto his sleeve. Border collies are very smart dogs. Domino used to try to outsmart us. And he was so funny. I never hear Obi barking. Domino didn’t bark much either. I think that’s a trade of border collies. They’re not really frantic barkers, which I really loved. I think Obi is gonna be a great asset to the farm, and he’ll protect the boys if those dogs come back on the farm. I’m so glad you got a border collie. I get to see him twice a week, and I think that it may help me to get over the loss of my dog . Thank you for Inviting us all along with you during your renovations and your life as n the farm. I can’t wait to see you traveling video to Iceland. I’ve never been there, and really never seen much about it. So I think this might be an interesting travel video. Your videos are fantastic and you do a great job. I love to see you guys working on the farm planting harvesting, and I love to see John building. He is such a passion for it. You know he’s a good builder because he can build without knowing where it’s gonna go and figure it out along the way and it may change, lol but it’s really good to see him building. I love that part. I wish I could build. I have a tablesaw and I can make bookshelves. I made a desk once. I also made a little table for my bathroom. But a house, that’s a massive. Love watching the progress on your farm, irrespective of whether it is building, gardens, creating new things like the barbecue, the underground storage bunker etc . . . I am totally over-awed by your joint talents, of which many seem to be self-taught. Saw someone's comment about repairing the broken tile, the Japanese repair artefacts, and paint the repairs with gold, showing that they did have a previous live . . . it is called Kintsugi, creating something even more beautiful out of something damaged.

Tara I am 100% with your interpretation of THIS SIDE UP. When John gave you that squinty eye look, I gave the same look back to him….how can any reasonable person interpret it differently? 😉❤

Hi John...have you considered a sprinkler system under the lawn with ONE control box and a timer. Saves you so much time and no dragging hoses about and, great fun for the family on those hot days. I didn’t see many screens on patios or on windows while in Portugal. It seems like such a good idea to mitigate bugs while still keeping windows open.

I am so glad you covered that exposed wood. I have been eyeing the dark clouds and the bad combination of water with that exposed walls. Tiles generally crack when not enough tile cement has been applied, leaving areas with no contact to anything.

Lovely start to the vlog, the boys so cute digging together. Sawyer seems to have shot up, they will have so much fun together. I really think it would be a good idea to give the boys bunk beds or separate sleeping area. You both need your space and it will help in the future with any separation issues. We have just got a kingsize Ottoman bed Tara, the best thing we did, loads of storage. Worried about the wood floor if you already have problems with wood eating bugs, they will just have a party and destroy it. What about luxury cushion flooring, there are some amazing ones, they not only look good but are so warm. Well done John for wearing all the PPE your health is so important. Great news that you have plumber, everything is moving so quickly. Looking forward to the Iceland video xx

I really enjoyed this video, the trials and tribulations of nothing going to plan made me laugh. A job taking twice as long as imagined. The lawned area looks so lush. It will be a real oasis. The view from the stone house is spectacular. Tara be careful with rose thorns, I once got one stuck in my finger. I just couldn't get it all out, I phoned the dr and explained what had happened, and was told to go to A and E. On arrival I reported to triage and was whisked in in front of everyone. Uncerermoniously given a tetanus shot and had it surgically removed. It appears if any part enters the blood stream they can be very dangerous. I now wear gloves when doing anything with roses!

Really enjoying your videos. Why don't you build a Murphy bed for the wall where your bed will go and that way you will have more usable space at the times you are not using the bed. Just a thought!

Just an idea - narrow wardrobe with drawers in the bottom either side of the bed and then a bridging unit/cupboards over the bed. Under bed storage drawers as well.

Put shelves in your corridor windows for plants and seedlings so the window serves its full purpose.
