Exercise,stretching and strengthening are essential, for anyone who has a disability, so they don't loose the abilities they do have ,and their bone strength and flexibility of movement. Keep it up Cole. Charisma you do an amazing job with your own fitness routine.

I was diagnosed at the age of 2 with a progressive, deforming disability that affects my joints and bones. When I was a kid, my specialist used to always say to me “what you choose to do today will affect your tomorrow; learn to listen to and understand how your body feels every day and adjust your ROM exercises accordingly “. I have 3 levels of daily workouts with various sets according to my daily needs (it’s a good day, it’s a tough day, and it’s a ROM exercise while in bed day). My current dr always comments on my obvious muscle strength in comparison to a body otherwise that people only see as frail. I love that juxtaposition: I’m strong as hell in my core and can kill it on my Pilates machine with very obvious upper arm strength despite really bad hand deformities but can’t walk for shit even with my crutches.

As a new paraplegic, I'm starting to see why this is important in our lives as disabled people. I wake up in pain from my condition, but at least I have the strength to transfer myself. I don't want to lose that strength, so everyday it's a regimen; stretch, weights, and drills. My father won't let me give up, so I have to put in 100%.

@@kathiharris No kidding. He lives for this, making me do physical activity, since I was a little kid. He'd always help me practice for basketball and softball. This is no different, really.

My late husband was paraplegic. He worked out daily. It was his legs so keeping his upper body strength was so important for transfers. And his freedom. Blessings to you Sir!

Come on cole let’s get you massive!!! Drink your protein n take ur pre workout before exercise. You’ll be flying into that bed with no problem in a few months. You inspired me to one day open a gym with a fully accessible section with a variety of options for the disabled community and make it free for u guys to help with motivation

@@lisamulch8916 no problem! As a person that just discovered the positive, physical, and mental impact exercise and weight lifting can do to us I was hooked. Regardless of your disability you can always find something to do that is an alternative to what u can’t do. Also that feeling of accomplishment when u realize you are now able to do something you weren’t able to when you first started is just awesome. Their is also a really supportive gym community that always offers support or advice to those who are new.

I love this! You are really educating me with your posts! It is interesting to see the type of exercise you do and the amount of mobility you do have. I never really thought about whether or not you had a regular exercise routine. I've been here 10 times by speeding cars and I've had cervical surgery on my neck I have excruciating pain everyday all day. I will tell you that I developed a suit I made it myself and it strengthens every major muscle group in the body by just putting it on and you can go as strong and increase the strength that she want to go. You can also concentrate on a certain area of your body if you'd like. It's quite amazing

I'm 64, and there with you. I'm supposed to walk 30-40 minutes daily. Had a counselor tell me once that walking will do as much if not more for depression than meds. C'mon let's be accountable to each other!

Some of the things I've been asked as a PWD...🤦‍♀️...I started doing exercises about 12-18 months ago after 10 years 9f being bedbpund and almost complete muscle wastage from the ribs down. Not many exercises, but some that I can do (pain is a constant). Even sitting or lying down, anything we are able to do is good for us. I don't beat myself up if my body is just in too much pain to be moved though. I find that so-called able society has some really strange attitudes towards wchair users in many ways. I live seeing members of our community online teaching people that we ARE just people. Awesome people, yes. But we are humans. ❤
