Why Do People Keep Sugar Coating Working With Santa Muerte? 

She is beyond sugar and spice. She is beyond duality. She may walk us through our fears and darkest subconscious beliefs. She brings death to our ego and transforms us and gives us new life. Remember her roots as a folk Saint. Christ needed to die to be resurrected fully man and God. Pharoah did not become king until he or she was lowered into a sarcophagus and raised out a new Divine being. Transformation is rarely painless. It requires letting go and surrender which for most human beings is a terrifying prospect. The reason being is we must leave behind who we once were. To walk with her is to face our own mortality and accept the fragility of life and thus live our lives to the fullest potential taking nothing for granted and with full gratitude and appreciation for the precious gift it truly is.

Here's the thing, if you pray for her love and light side, that's the side she will give you. If you pray for her dark and vengeful side, that's the side she will give you. I think the confusion comes from the fact that many of the most popular English prayers and rosaries to Santa Muerte emphasize her lighter loving aspects. This is great for a home altar, especially a home with kids, but death encompasses all things, including the darkness and everything else life has to offer.

Santa Muerte is as multifaceted as human life. If a devotee is ready to embrace themselves fully, along with their shadow and light, then Santa Muerte will assist them on this journey. It is important to pay attention to those aspects that evoke rejection. This means healing lies there.

Those who downplay her darkside seem to want to dissociate the fact that she loves everyone, Like Jesus would, which is doubly ironic with an ironic twist considering the catholic church denounces her and she is everything Jesus preaches about in the sense of loving everyone and forgiving them for their trespasses. Being a narcosaint is practically a dark aspect for lack of a better term for her so much so that call her whatever you want, but it doesn't matter cuz she is who she wants to be and that's being a folk saint of the people, for all.

I share your concern. Santa Muerte may become for some a kind of trendy fashion statement. But sincere devotees know who she is and she knows us. Not everything other devotees say or do necessarily resonates with me nor do I expect others to always agree with the way I practice my devotion but I’m all right with that.

Good video, Leroy. I do work with La Santa Muerte within a Catholic framework, though I'm more of an Esoteric Independent Catholic. You are correct re Roman Catholic saints, though the archangels are official saints and not human beings. Some folk saints can eventually become canonized saints (Jose Gregorio Hernandez and Charlene Richard are two folk saints now on a potential path to canonization), but I agree this is not going to happen with La Santa Muerte. In any case, I have no desire to impose my religious framework on other devotees.

Why would anyone want to associate her with the Catholic church she is not part of any organized religion. To me she is our roots, our mexican ancestors worshiped her in Aztec time she was Mitecacihuatal. Nothing can happen without her!!

Fascinating ya? So many perspectives, and easy to get stuck in the thicket of views. Most people will find it hard to reconcile their own "darkness" with their light. Thus creating this separation and false duality. But in their own time they will find the right view to disentangle themselves. Some might do so quickly others will take time. But eventually those that are sincere always find a way.
