If you could make one thing superhydrophobic, what would it be? Let us know in the comments. I, for one, would make a superhydrophobic towel to totally confuse people at the beach.

Yes, towels like that tend to weigh under 25lb. unlike salt-ridden ones! The nanosilver-coated sponge in the toilets too, yes! Surely the nod to Thirsty Public Service of the waste treatment of towns; not cool, easement blockers (and at-altitude demonstrator not so much as trying to use jackfruit to put a sanitary pad on a wall.) Not PTFE without a reverse logistics (waste and recycling) chain for that teratogenic molecule. ACS, you should'a panned to Langmuir for this; otherwise it's all texture and little chemistry.

2:36 Just to add the reason _why_ hydrophobic materials repel water: is because water doesnt stick to a surface of negatively charged particles , which super hydrophobic surfaces are. Otherwise, the water wil still stick to your nano-bumpy surface just fine., Its the positive to negative hydrogen bonding that occurs when two water molecules come into contact. It's what that make water so sticky. To prevent water sticking to your surface, you must deny the water molocule the positively charged foothold it needs to initially grip onto, like a hydrophobic surfaces does.

Cory Delbovo I saw the PTFE (as fiber in raincoats, e.g.) but missed polydimethylsiloxane in the next frames. Thanks!!

Yeah RainX uses the siloxane. It's ok for mild rain, but not good for heavy, and wipers rub off the coating quickly.

Not really enlightening video, doesn't explain how the material interacts with water to repel it. Very superficial and shallow information, #Reactions... =/
