This week we see how age can affect the Lions with minor issues that can become more serious issues. Ginny & Meg had ingrown claws and our trusted friend Dr Caldwell the Vet was called to help. Hope you enjoy a different type of video but a necessary update for the well being of Ginny and Meg who were back up and about and happy in no time. Thank you for the support, welcome to all new viewers and once again to all regular viewers ! Have fun watching ! Ciao

is it possible Ginny might hold a grudge (or lost some trust) when she hears Kevin's voice while the vet is about to dart her? if she makes the connection from the vet to Kevin will that affect her trust in Kevin?

the thing is Kevin you have a remarkable relationship with each lion or big cat, hyena on the sanctuary and therefore they trust you in ways they wouldn't trust any other human. That is for sure! And as amazing as it is I really hope and pray that people out there do not try and repeat what you do because if you could have it your way none of the animals on the sanctuary would be there they would all be free to roam this earth as we do. Without restriction and fences. The goal is all wild animals to be FREE, until that day comes Kevin you are the link between us and them and I greatly adore you for all your kindness, loyalty, dedication, love and humility you have for the life you live and work you do, God BLESS you, yours and all your furry family in SA..... from a far away friend in the USA, CT to be exact!!! ✌💜🙃🙏

Knowing just how quickly her whole demeanor can change from placid & almost child like to "I will rip your throat out" in a nanosecond proves you HAVE to be on your toes at ALL times. Be complacent at your peril, literally. She is STILL a wild animal at the end of the day & this demonstrates so perfectly Kevin's knowledge, attention & compassion. Thank you for sharing.

also , makes wonders for those responsible for animals to know the why's for the how's so to speak.. it also helps animal responsible ones to sniff out if they might want a third opinion ,such as for example on normal small housecats and that mutilation practise some claims is 'harmless' declawing ..shudders

We had an outside feral-turned-friendly kitty for 16 years (my husband and I were the only ones who she trusted to touch her, including a cuddle!), and she had the same age related issue...claws did not retract, and back problems. Sadly, she passed a year ago. I do so miss her sweet face and big green eyes. Good on you, Kevin, for keeping such a watchful eye on your furry kids!

Similar experience to yours, Tabby B. My feral became quite tame, but as she aged, she lost her hearing. I noticed her limping one day and discovered the same claw on the lion was growing into her paw pad. Didn't realize lions have similar problems.

Thanks Kevin for a look into the day to day maintenance one has to go through. My 20lb cat gives me the same reaction when I tried to cut his claws I’m always scared I’m going to hurt him and then there is the bite that I have to be careful of. I’m so bad I never really trimmed his nails. But a visit to the vets and they have those claws all trimmed up for me. I loved my cat more than anything in this world and I love watching the lioness’s in your sanctuary I know they are completely different animals but I see so many similarities in my domestic cat and your lioness’s there personality and there mannerism’s. Thanks for working so hard with all your beautiful animals. Your staff does a great job of alerting you of any problems with one of them. Dr. Caldwell is so caring and compassionate to all those in your care. You are truly the best. Thanks for sharing all these videos. Lions are my favorite big cat. I fell in love with them because of The Lion King (1993) Your Vet bills must be enormous! Here, where I live in Akron, Ohio, it cost me $1,500.00 for a Pyametra surgery. The surgery was done the last week of January and I just paid it off the first week of May. (Please spay your cat. Pyametra comes on very quick and it is fatal. We had 3 choices: 1) send her home without any antibiotic or pain medication and let her suffer until she died 2) do the surgery, or 3) put her down right then She is young and healthy, so surgery was really the answer. She is now completely healed and happy.) My daughter and I rescued a cat that turned out to be very sick. He had F-HIV and cancer, which was probably due to the F-HIV. The year and a half that we had him, I think it cost us about $3,000.00, and that's including his cremation.

02:30 Good thing that it wasn't my help in charge right there. That would have resulted in some some serious re-training exercises or being let go. I am retired from a field where lives are often on the line and cooperative teamwork is critical, and that inattention / delay would be totally unacceptable. It wasn't as critical in this particular scenario, but in another situation it might be, and if you make allowances for this one, you're unlikely to get more certain and consistent cooperation when the pucker factor may be off the charts for one person on the team but not necessarily the others.
