@@MathAndScience The crust of what IS the Moon is about TWICE as thick on it's far side !! The BULK DENSITY of what is the Moon is, in fact, comparable to that of (volcanic) basaltic lavas on THE EARTH/ground. The maria (Lunar “seas”) do occupy about ONE SIXTH of the surface area of what is the Moon. Almost ALL of this maria is on the near side of what is the Moon !! The surface gravity of the Moon is about ONE SIXTH of that compared to when that person is on what is THE EARTH/ground. The Moon is about one quarter the diameter of WHAT IS THE EARTH. About one third of the visible near side of the Moon consists of maria. The LAND surface area of what is THE EARTH is at 29 percent. This is EXACTLY between one third and one quarter. Great. WHAT IS E=MC2 is taken directly from F=ma, AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE); AS the rotation of WHAT IS THE MOON matches the revolution. Great. FACTS. Footprints on what is the Moon BASICALLY last indefinitely. NOW, consider what is the fully illuminated (AND setting/WHITE) MOON ON BALANCE; AND consider what is the ORANGE (AND setting) Sun. They are the the SAME SIZE as what is THE EYE. NOW, ONE HALF multiplied times one third IS one sixth. (Lava is about three times as dense as what is WATER.) CLEAR water comes from THE EYE ON BALANCE. THE EARTH IS ALSO BLUE. Notice what is the TRANSLUCENT AND BLUE sky ON BALANCE !!! Finally, notice that the curvature or shape of said/aforementioned MOON does match that of what is THE EARTH/ground (that is, given what is a clear horizon, of course). Magnificent. In other words, it is predictable, in fact, that what is the Moon is about ONE QUARTER of the diameter of WHAT IS THE EARTH ON BALANCE. BALANCE AND completeness go hand in hand. Importantly, what is gravity, ON BALANCE, is an INTERACTION that cannot be shielded or blocked. I have attained a gigantic breakthrough in physics. That is beyond dispute. Note: Lava IS orange, AND it is even blood red. Great. What is the orange (AND setting) Sun manifests or forms up at what is eye level/BODY HEIGHT. By Frank Martin DiMeglio

This is off topic but where do the moons for the planets come from? I read somewhere that maybe a part of the earth broke off at some point but the same thing would have had to happen for the other planets as well that have lunar orbits.
@focarglo

Two points are unclear A the moon is egg shaped NOW, but if in the past it was spinning faster the gravitational force of the earth should have been applied to diffeeent parts of the moon during its revolution and the shape should be round. B the egg shape makes sense only respect to the poles (the axis), so the earth ahould prevent the axe to rotate, but of course it can't affect the spinning as all parts which spin have the same egg-shape

Thank you for this explanation. Yes, the rotation of the Moon on its axis is the accepted scientific explanation. But, the moon does not independently rotate on its axis. It is locked in place by the Earth. The moon's perceived rotation is due to the Earth's rotation. The Earth's pull on the Moon prevents it from rotating independently. If the Earth stops rotating, a specific side of the moon would be facing the Sun at all times.

Could it be because of the distance away from the moon, why we get, perhaps an illusion that we are seeing the same side? The moon is always illuminated, reflecting light from the sun. There are times when the moon doesn't appear any at all, so what side of it is facing us during that time? Could it be the dark side? So, could that be the reason it becomes invisible to the naked eye? Just curious 🤔

@ibrahimtee
@ibrahimtee 11 месяцев назад
i’m the furthest thing from an astrophysicist but my guess would be the same reason the earth doesn’t have one side locked to facing the moon. which is the earth has oceans which can bulge and compensate for the gravitational force of the sun.
@ibrahimtee

i read your comment before finishing the video and answered with my best guess. but i just realized that he answered your question at 17:17. earth is far away from the sun and it’s size is very negligible compared to the sun, so the effect of a tidal lock is unlikely

Because the moments of inertia are different and gravity gradient forces and the gyroscopic stable rotation result in one stable relative attitude ,with small oscillations still present. Mathematically the 3 dimensional matrix equation for a rotating body and the matrix expression for the gravity gradient moment are very similar.

The bulge of the oceans are due to the moons gravity...acting on earth...and its earth's gravity that prevents the total escape of the entire Ocean....but surely this MUST be the main reason of evaporation of some water apart from and in addition to the sun's rays/ heat which raises the temperature and ALSO adds up to the process of evaporation. Just a thought...please elucidate on it... because it seems extremely likely..but never found it any text regards evaporation.

Yes, the moon completes a whole rotation on its axis once every 28 days approximately, the time it takes to complete one orbit of the earth. This is known as synchronous rotation.

I watched a couple of your videos and while you do a good job of explaining the topic I think the videos are a bit long winded. They could be considerably shortened. For instance it doesn't require a 19 minute video to explain why we always see the same face of the moon. A few minutes would suffice. Another video of yours I just watched explaining the tides was 34 minutes long but a video less than a third of that would be sufficient. And I noticed you have a 36 minute video explaining the phases of the moon but again that can be explained in a few minutes.
@DustInTheWindAZ
@DustInTheWindAZ Год назад
WOW! That sounds like an over-complicated explanation for "tidal locking". Isn't it simply that the moon's center of gravity is not in the center of it's mass? We now know that the Moon's gravitational forces are not the same or equal all over. So the moon has "settled" into an orbit where its "heavier" side is drawn to and facing the Earth. For example: Haven't you ever had a ball that wobbled? And when you put that ball down, it would always settle (stop rolling) on the same side? You could spin or roll it in any direction and as fast as you wanted, but it would ALWAY settle on the same side. Is that not EXACTLY what the Moon (or ALL "tidally locked" moons) are doing? It's so simple, yet you make it sound so complicated!

@josemariatrueba4568

And the friction of the tides against the Earth's crust is slowing down the Earth's rotation. Momentum is conserved so the rotational energy lost ends up pushing the moon into a higher orbit. IERS is devoted to precisely measuring the Earth's rotation, and the increase in the moon's orbital distance can be precisely measured by bouncing laser beams off the retro-reflectors left by the Apollo astronauts.

Ok. So the Moon is spinning and the Earth is spinning. And the same face of the Moon always faces Earth. The EArth rotates 360 deg once a day relative to the Sun. The Moon is smaller than the Earth in terms of diameter and circumference. So it must be spinning significantly faster than the Earth? Or Not? How much faster? Can you say how many times the Moon rotates per Earth day? Does the 27 day orbit of the Moon around the Earth affect the Moon's rate of spin? I guess it can be worked out mathematically ...

How can we be so sure that it is tidal locking, and not something else like a Magnetic Coupling, or another force such as Gravitational locking, besides, the composition of moon's internal structure and its different density at different parts along its surface and volume may not be uniform, may be of different composition at different places along its internal structure, such that higher density areas of the moon will have higher gravitational pull towards the earths similar higher density areas, earth's core does not contain uniformly distributed materials, if this was the case we would find oil, iron, Gold, lead, and uranium, water and all other elements equally distributed throughout earths surface and core, this is not the case, therefore higher density areas of the moon locks to earth's gravitational pull. Of course in order for the current explanation of tidal locking the moon needs to be elongated a considerable amount, but the fact is its elongation is negligible. For example during high tide the sea level rises just a few meters high, compare this to the earths diameter of thousands of kilometers, this change is negligible.
@chevalier6149
@chevalier6149 8 месяцев назад
So if the earths gravity causes the bulging of the moon then it couldn’t have had it to tidally lock it.. if the gravity is latching into the bulge in the moon then it would’ve already had to have had it in order for that to be the case.
@sailorman8668
@sailorman8668 5 месяцев назад
What isn't explained in this video, is that the mass of the moon is not distributed evenly throughout its structure, so the earth's gravity is interacting with the moon in an unbalanced manner, with more force being exerted on one side than on the other.

Mr. Gibson: Then why earth is not tidally locked in with sun?
@brucea9871
@brucea9871 9 месяцев назад
I suspect it's because the Earth is not close enough to the sun to become tidally locked. (But in the distant future the Earth would become tidally locked to the moon because the Earth's rotation is gradually slowing down due to friction with the oceans. This would happen in 50 billion years if the solar system survived that long. The Earth would then take about 49 of our current days to rotate once, which would then be the same amount of time it would take the moon to orbit the Earth (the moon is receding from Earth and hence its orbital period is increasing from its current 27 days). So the same side of Earth would always face the moon. But the sun will turn into a red giant and fry the Earth long before that happens.) If the Earth was substantially closer to the sun in a circular orbit I think the Earth would be tidally locked to the sun. Mercury is closer to the sun and is tidally locked, but not in a 1:1 resonance (I.e. it does not rotate exactly once on its axis for every orbit around the sun as the moon does with Earth). Instead Mercury is in a 3:2 resonance with the sun. It rotates on its axis exactly 3 times for every 2 orbits around the sun. I think the reason for Mercury's 3:2 resonance is that its orbit is quite elliptical; its distance from the sun varies quite a bit during its orbit. If its orbit was circular I think Mercury would be tidally locked to the sun in a 1:1 resonance as the moon is with Earth.
