Someone should tell Bill Sharkey that indoor/outdoor cats don't really like being ripped to shreads by other cats or wild animals. Nor do they like being hit by cars and lying maimed for hours on end suffering a agonizing death. Also there are those that use cats as target peractice (arrows or guns) or poison them because they hate them. He really has a Candy Land view of cat ownership. The only instance where this works is if you have a home in the country or have barn cats that are slightly domesticated. Otherwise, you're just asking for heartache. I've always had indoor cats and they love their lives. Plenty of food, water, space to hang out and love. My cats do get to hang outside for a bit as long as someone is out there to supervise. All my cats have lived for at least 14 years. One of them to 20! Feral cats are a different story.

My cat Tommy was an indoor cat. He had an amazing life and was looked after really well. He was 18 years old. Cats definitely live longer indoors 👍xx.

People need to understand that cats need to be indoors and they need love and affection just like dogs. Too many people claim that cats are "independent" and just throw their cats outside and allow them to roam free so they don't have to deal with them. I have a 13 year old orange tabby and I could never imagine letting her outside unattended even for one minute. Honestly, anyone who thinks cats belong outdoors doesn't deserve to own one.

I don’t know why they even put the “report” button on Facebook or Instagram because clearly they don’t care. one time I saw someone literally harassing & doxxing someone so I tried to report it and they told me it did not go against community guidelines. Same thing happened when I saw someone being called a slur in a Facebook group. I’m over here thinking “what DOES count as harassment then?” 🤔

Like with my neighbor taking in a wonderful, friendly beautiful stray cat, who would have suffered a cold harsh winter. He's so much better off being inside. He's happy and well taken care of. He has no desire to go back outside. They named him Felix.

I did that a year ago. Now I'm also feeding five feral cats every day. A mother and her four babies who are pretty much grown now. One of them let me pet it for a second yesterday for the first time.

The whole cat thing took me by surprise yesterday. My wife and I have had 3 cats during our 35 years of marriage, but last one we had passed about 6 years ago. First one we had, we let her go outside, and she would really wander, she lived to be 18. Next one stayed inside the whole time, he lived to be 10. Last one was skittish, but she did like to sit on our deck and bask in the sun, she lived to be 14. But I don't know how anyone can think cats will live longer, if they are outdoor cats. The first one who loved to be outdoors was blessed with the proverbial "9 Lives." One time she had her stomach ripped open by another animal, only reason why she lived is because she had a home to go to, with owners who took her to the vet. Cheers Larry!

Growing up, We had a cat that I felt was ours, but he would go out & we lived in apartment building back then. He didn’t show up for a couple days & my parents later told me they found him & he died. Even Though I was a little girl, I felt so bad that I wasn’t there for him. I mean I was only about six or seven what could I do? but to this day I always make sure whatever animal is in my house is as safe as possible. Can’t let them get to you Larry. some of these people have nothing else to do but to try to piss people off for pleasure I guess. 🤔Have a good day.💁🏻‍♀️

RU-vid won’t check into these corrupt companies, but they’ll make sure we don’t play 10 seconds of an audio clip. Crazy. You’re doing the right think with your cats, Larry. Don’t listen to those fools.✌️

Cats have thousands of years of domestication so I think they are fine inside, not to mention that having them inside protects native fauna… unless your local fauna happens to be lions, bears, crocodiles or wildebeest, then I think your local fauna can fend for themselves just fine 👍🏽

The box set issue is frustrating, no one wants their images used to scam people. Maybe the companies that used to drive fighting counterfeiters are less concerned about money being made off physical media right now? In the live chat concert ticket scalping has become the norm as well, both need regulation to be brought down hard on these people to protect consumers. Oh that is a triggering argument for me too, Larry, about pets and disputing their quality of life. 1. that guy was being a troll who wanted to piss you off. 2. I too lost one of my terriers growing up to a coyote. As a 17 year old I had to put on my rubber boots in the middle of the night, walk out in the dark to look for my Westie named Tyke who my mom let out late once again and he ran off barking and she couldn’t get him in, after our other Westie came back shivering on the porch. I found and carried Tyke home in my arms with a snapped neck and had to bury him the next day. At school the next day I basically fell apart crying in class. That haunted me for years. There was no reason he needed to die like that, he was leash trained, it was just us being lazy and risking his life. I don’t blame my mom, but I won’t risk my birds’ lives. As a parrot owner, I have friends who fly their birds outside. That is extremely risky even with well-trained birds. There are too many horror stories for dogs, cats, birds, kids, etc. I just do my damnedest to keep the animals in my care healthy and entertained, and I do a great job, thank you very much. Sure I’d love to do more but when people want to argue how it’s cruel that my birds live indoors or whatever, they can go to hell. Don’t get me started! Lol.

We live in a city with lots of traffic. Our cat wouldn't live long or possibly get picked up by other people if we let her roam the neighborhood. She's 11 now and in perfect health (physically and emotionally).

Hi Larry, some people really have such stupid comments and we used to have a cat at home and we always kept her inside and once we let her outside and then she was attacked by an aggressive dog and thank God she survived but she had a lot of injuries so we always left her inside and that is better for the cats and larry whatever that person said in the comments you are very good to mittens and take good care of her and mittens is doing well with you and mittens know that too ❤️❤️

In our state they made it indoors as they believe cats kill too much wildlife outdoors in a place with lots of parks and trees. I don’t really believe it with the lazy cats we have had!. But it is better as they are happy and safe and live a long time indoors.

You have an indoor cat. Don't know why some people can't understand that. I've seen those ads for the Fabs box sets. If it is too good to be true chances are it is fake.

At this point in your cats life being that she's always been inside. An indoor cat.. I understand why you would not let her outside. Being that she's not use to it and because you are close to the road it's better for her safety. You're doing the right thing. It would be different if she was an outside cat since outdoor cats get use to being outside and learn to fend for themselves outside. Of course there is always more danger outside even for a cat that is use to being outside. You're doing the right thing by leaving her inside. Just make sure that she can look out a window. Cats love to look out the window. Indoor and outdoor cats.. )^_-)/

Hi Larry. Mr. Sharkey probably has a huge collection of those box sets. My cousin lost his last cat to a coyote. They are better off indoors in my opinion.

Larry. You need to stop caring what these people say or think. It is irrelevant. You should just ignore these type of comments and not get riled. It does not matter. These people have no idea about what your life or your cats life is like. You will never meet this person. They will never be your friend so ignore and move on. Rant over. 😊

I took part in the chat yesterday (fun chat too, by the way) and Mr. Sharkey did seem a bit odd with some of his comments, as did one other commenter, AD Fresh, I believe. I guess that's the price one pays for hosting those live chats I guess. You handled it the right way, even though he was a bit of a jerk. The other one I mentioned seemed to become, shall we say "fascinated" by Glen, and made some bizarre comments to him like he wanted to know Glen's philosophy of life or something. Other than that, it was a fun chat. Hope you, Mittens and Mollie have a nice holiday!

This will sound strange Larry but I wonder if it's ever been done,has anyone ever taken a cat for a walk on a leash?,I've never seen it done and would a cat even accept a leash or would it freak out?,whatever like you said Larry Mittens doesn't know any better and is probably quite happy the way things are,I wouldn't worry about it to much. Do cats live longer indoors? Larry, check out the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine or the University of Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College or call a local veterinarian.
@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffin
@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffin 7 месяцев назад
Yes, they do: Many cat owners allow their cats to roam free outdoors. However, allowing your cat to be an outdoor cat may actually be decreasing your cat's life expectancy. The average life span for an outdoor cat is only two to five years of age while an indoor cat's life span can reach seventeen years of age or older.

I fed scores of stray cats for two decades. The fiercest feral tom cat, the king of the 'domain' lived 6 years. The most cautious, highly street savvy female feral cat lasted 4 and a half years - her kitten, whom we took indoors (after 6 months of him roaming outdoors and getting lost twice including being trapped in someone's house without food/water for 5 days) is now 10 years old and still zooming up and down our staircase(s) playing with other much younger cats in the house. Another female stray/outdoor cat, domesticated but street smart and could be quite fierce was lost after 3 years (could have drowned in 2 days of non-stop downpours). The overwhelming majority of the other outdoor cats fared poorly, mostly lasting 6 to 15 months. All just stopped turning up one day with no sign of them in the vicinity - most likely were roadkill, mauled by packs of ferocious feral-stray dogs, died from drinking contaminated water or chased away by humans or other animals.

Outdoor cats have an average lifespan of 2 to 3 years. Indoor cats can live well over a decade. Case closed.

I agree. I have two indoor cats, plus have been feeding the same five strays in my backyard, twice a day, for almost a decade. I have tried to get a few inside in the winter and they refuse the offer. They WANT to stay outdoors! I did get the five cats fixed, so they wouldn't start an 'extended' family. I had to trap each one to get it done. Point is, outdoor cats are tough and resilient. They will likely outlive my indoor cats, who are spoiled rotten. Love 'em all...

If I put my cat Mittens outside (where there is a lot of traffic and probably a rabid animal or two) she will last about 5 minutes, but since I love her she is staying indoors.
