Googan baits gets a lot of hate for their lures. But why? Today well discuss some theories on why bass fishermen around the country hate on this trendy brand and its lure products #googanbaits #fishing #bassfishing
Googan baits ruined my life. I caught no fish so my wife left me, thinking I was incompetent and incapable. Not being able to catch fish also caused my children to starve. I was so angry I killed the family dog. Googan baits has ruined me.
My two favorite baits that Googan are the Bandito Bugs and Mondo Worms. I haven’t really had much experience with them being unreliable. They actually have been pretty durable overall. I totally agree with you on the ppl who claim that they ( Googan) has ripped off their competitors. I mean stick baits are basically all the same…. It’s color and scent that make them different. There is a really good video with one of the Googan owners who explains how they used the same designer ( because there are only so many of them). I think ppl don’t like them because they do their own thing and came out strong. As far as price goes, there are a lot of other companies that charge similar or lots more than Googan…. So IDK what others are using but I just try to wait until I see sales or the buy 2 get 1 free deals.
Googan got a bad rap when they first released soft plastic because the plastic was extremely soft and not durable. Since then they have hardened it some to make it more durable but it is still a softer plastic then a lot. Which is good to me
A lot of the hate comes from people wanting to rag on YT youngsters, but mosts comes from PR firms and their bots hating on them because they are an independent company and a competition to the big guys. THE OTHER SOURCE OF THE HATE IS FROM FOREIGN BOTS BECAUSE ROB IS A PATRIOT AND SPEAKS OUT ABOUT CHINA AND RUSSIA WANTING TO RUIN THE US AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, SO THEY CAN GO ABOUT BUILDING THEIR EVIL EMPIRES. No BS. you kids wouldn't know because your constantly being lied to by the media ever since Bill Clinton, but much worse after trump called them out. Check out "Boys on the Tracks". Then realize there's a reason they covered up the COVID19 PANDEMIC ORIGINS. It's got nothing to do with racism. I'm Asian. it's racist to call an asian person racist for calling China out. THINK ABOUT IT! also: Ben Miliken is not on our side. he's sold out!
This kind of controversy has always been a thing and unfortunately it always will be a thing. For some reason people are addicted to drama. Some people just don't like to see others be successful and the Googan brand definitely blew up quickly. And as far as people claiming people are stealing designs, that's also always going to be a thing. My other hobby is collecting pocket knives and that's another area where people "steal designs" but there's only so many ways to make a practical, safe and useful knife. Buy and use what you like and don't worry about what others are doing. Just my thoughts. Thanks for sharing and take care bud.
@@jacksontrotter1411 it's the original Benchmade Bugout with the blue scales. It's because my son got it for me a few years back. I got back into fishing a couple years ago and haven't been messing with the knives but slowly getting back into it and I see that I've got some catching up to do because there's a ton of stuff that has come out in those years. I like seeing companies using a lot of 14C28N steel on the budget offerings instead of D2 on everything. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine steel but it was on everything for a while. How bout you?
I don’t have much brand loyalty when it comes to plastics. I just get what’s cheap most of the time. The dart and the ned are decent baits for walleyes during the right conditions too
Amen, confidence. Yum and Missile Baits are two of the greatest performing and cheapest baits that just WORK! Googan are overpriced and low performing baits. Too much hype. Most Pros don't even use them!!!
Majority of the Googan baits ive tried I'm not a fan of. At this point i just dont buy them at all. But..... if you do like them Academy has a ton of Googan on clearance RN.
The list is long but here we go: they started as RU-vidrs who understood people didn't have money for fancy baits. Then they became puppets of Mystery Tacklebox and started peddling fancy baits. Many videos of those baits, rods, reels, etc. breaking in their first use. There are videos of people getting literal truck fulls of free baits. Which, as a young person, hurts considering I pay over $5 a bag for anything Googan. They embodied "selling out" and they embraced capitalism over the good humble videos they were doing.
@@aaronhiggs right! And he and Jason Wheeler and others get free baits but I see MDJ, Scott Martin and Jason Wheeler now only really use their stick worm and bandito bug...
Groogan entered the bass fishing tackle market in a big way. They took over a large amount of sales space in retain stores. They had flashy packaging for their products. However, Groogan missed the mark with many fishermen in a couple of ways: (1) the price point for these soft plastic baits, (2) the fishermen who did by them weren’t impressed with the results. They flooded the market with product that was expensive (per unit) and retailers (Academy) just couldn’t sell them. Today, many of these retailers have moved Groogan baits to their bargain or clearance section. Most importantly, these expensive soft plastic didn’t offer the common man fisherman a fish catching advantage. In my experience, I found the baits to be just average in design and quality. There are several old school plastic bait manufacturers (Zoom, Strike King, Berkley Yum) out there that have a long standing reputation of helping fishermen in catching fish. So there you have it… somewhat overpriced and not very effective. Just my take on it.
I dispise their fan base, seems the same people who buy their baits are the same ones to trash the fishing spot. I found an overwhelming amount of googan trash local to me
The dollar stores near me sell googan products for half the price of what they retail anywhere else for. Everything is $5 Canadian, which is $3.69 USD. My local tackle shop has had googan plastics in the clearance bin for like 7 months now, 3 packs of plastics for $$7.40 USD. They can’t get rid of them. Lol.
I don't have a brand loyalty to anyone. I will go on recommend colors because I know different conditions and different presentations are needed. Like, I do believe it when I see a lot of people from many channels catching fish on green pumpkin or chartreuse or pearl&silver or whatever colors, because I see many people, from all over the country recommending those colors. But, some conditions require a different presentation than those colors, so I also know it is a good idea to have several options. I tend to stick with the cheaper brands though because spending 6-10 bucks for soft plastics is not in my price range. Walmart tends to have many good baits for good deals. I try to balance as much as I can between action and durability. But I am still a learning on this. I consider myself still a novice when it comes to fishing. I have a lot to learn still. Especially bass fishing. I do well with panfish and catfish because they tend to have an easier set of baits to use. Bass, it is much more complicated it feels like. I wish fish scents actually worked. Or at least the ones at Walmart. I have seen several RU-vid videos showing that they don't work for one simple scientific reason. Oil and water don't mix. Fish scents are oil based. Now, if there are some out there that would work because they aren't oil based, I would love to try them. Especially with soft plastics, of which I have always had a hard time catching bass on.
Maybe I'm just spoiled because I haven't actually paid for any of the Googan baits I have. All the ones I got came in Mystery Tackle Box subscriptions that were given to me at Christmas. But when I buy soft plastics, I tend to be Mister Twister because they're a proven American company and they're cheap, so when they tear it's no big deal.
I love googan squad stuff! they tear up about the same as anything else I feel like, I absolutely love their crankbaits and topwaters their absolute fire! Also their rods are some of my favorite, I use the 7’ medium heavy “Go-To” rod legit every single day and I catch a ton of tanks on this rod with no issues; plus the hate makes it fun lol
Here is a tip...take your zooms out of the package and put them organized in a nice plastic tote. Am I the only one that throws all the packaging away as soon as you buy it?🤔
I have fished all kinds of plastics that were not perfectly straight and the fish don’t care. The shell baits come in now is a scam to give you less baits for a higher price.
I don't like them because they are messy and the residue from the baits will make your reel jam up if you don't wash it all off before touching it, also my top 2 favorite brands are zoom and strike king because they are not messy, they don't smell bad, and I just like the designs of the baits better, for example the rage bug is the best of durability and action and for me, it has outperformed the bandito bug every time by a 2-1 ratio. I like the zoom baits because they are easy to grab out of the packaging, are easy to store, and they have great action while still having good durability. I don't dislike googan baits, I use them all the time. I just think that their hard baits are good and their soft baits are too messy for their performance, it isn't worth jamming up your reel with the grease they put on the baits especially when they tear up so easily. Hope this helps.
Idk ive always had good luck with googan baits some of them are a littl pricey but so are literally every fishing bait unless you get a ozark trail bait
I think Googan has some great baits and different ideas, they just cost so much compared to items like YUM Dingers, which I can grab for only a couple bucks and still catch fish.
I have no complaint about Googan Baits I use them all the time and the plastics are soft. But the action is so good. I don't mind if I go through one with every fish and I use 5 packs. I'm fine with that.
Don’t forget the Creme Worms. The first plastic worm, everyone copies everyone. Literally how tech and companies advance. Improve on already good ideas.
I have and use Googan Baits with no problems. As far as durability goes, I use kitech swimbaits they last the same. If you want durability use zman. All catch fish for me and I have a wall full of them all.
I think that the googans put out some nice looking hard baits, havent had much in the way of success with them though. As fir the plastics, i cant bring myself to pay that for them. In fact, every googan bait i have either came in a mystery box or was given to me.
People who complain about soft baits are usually too cheap to use "Mend It". People who pour their own baits don't just do it to save money, they do it because they can use softer plastic for greater results. P.S. the Dart works great for me!
I like googan baits I also like rapala 6th sense 13 fishing....and all other brands.... You have to know how to use each bait and know what each bait is for
Personally, the problem is they are knock off baits that cost as much as the brand name, that's why I never bought them. No point, since there are so many choices already out there. Make the bandito bug half the price of a rage bug and I'll buy googan all day.
Googan baits are blah. They just copied every lure manufacturer with nothing unique of their own and relied on the Googan Squad to hype them up. They are also too costly without durability. Same basic hard lures that were copied, too. I can get Zoom, Gambler, 6th Sense, Lunker Lure, Yahoo, Strike King, Rapala, Norman, Berkley, Yum, or a host of others for a great price and lures that last.
People hate Googan because it’s a popular/cool thing to do, it started because they became super famous and successful videos RU-vid and a lot of tournament anglers disliked them, because their attitude was it’s just a bunch of kids from RU-vid who don’t know anything about real bass fishing and it became popular to hate them, I use all kinds of different brands including googan and they have a lot of good baits and also some bad ones, like the majority of bait companies, my favorite Googan bait is the bandito bug best Googan bait hands down imo it’s a fish catching machine!!
I agree. I was catching one big river smallie after another using bandito bugs as a trailer on a chatterbait. They kept falling apart, so I switched to a rage tale. After an hour of zero bites on the raised tail, I switch back to Bandito bug and started catching them again. Had to superglue them together to make it work lol. You can see it in my fort Hunter video on my channel
2 out of 3 of the biggest fish I caught last year were off of Googan baits (Trench Hog texas rig on one and a Clickbait with a Zoom Fluke). Am I a Googan fanboy? No. Will I buy them at Ollies at half price every time? Absolutely.
I’m not a Googan super fan but for everyone that complains about durability need to think of how many Yamamoto Senko’s you use because they are soft, well the same applies to the Googan soft plastics and no I’m not saying Googan is as good as Yamamoto but the softness of the lures is comparable, the stupidest bait that Googan ever made is that chatterbait style lure they made. But those Bandito Bugs are fire and they slay bass but Scott Martin designed it so I understand also now that Zaldain is with Googan and Bass Mafia there will be awesome glidebaits coming I’m sure since he already killed it with the Zaldainerous line through
I think googan baits are good, I caught tones of fish and why the hate, like look at the rods there one of the best rods out there, so guys don’t hate there just having fun and making tackle.
They have some really good baits...people just like to hate, for many reasons....Yamamoto senko is crazy expensive & aren't durable at all...Those same whiners that complain about googan baits reliability likeky use senkos all the time
The comments about "copying" from other companies are simply "I don't have anything else to say, so I'm gonna say that" kind of comment. The more companies "copying" from other companies, the better is gonna be for us: consumers!! This is what pushes companies to keep improving and making better products! So yeah, I don't care who copies who.... as long as they keep bringing new and better products, that's what it matters!! Consumers who use this as an argument are just fan boys.... (it's like apple vs samsung!)
The bait designs that Googan steals from other companies are a bit uglier, but will catch fish. The ones they come up with on their own are outclassed by most of their competitors. Their marketing is aimed at a younger audience (which is fine, but doesn't appeal to me). Even when I was just getting into fishing and started watching content, I didn't get the sense that the Googan Squad were very skilled as fishermen. I didn't find the content to be entertaining. Then, I came across a video where one of the Googan Squad PUNTED a native gar just for laughs. That sums it up for me.
