In the defense of zelda 2, which I got the courage to beat yesterday. Its honestly great, i’m playing through zelda 1 right now, but zelda 2 gets so much hate for difficulty, when at the modern age, there are save state solutions. Regarding said solutions, it’s designed to be hard anyway. Now, some parts are quite..asinine of the devs, like not respawning at dungeons. (regarding Great Palace) It also has many staples of the series, and what I think ALTTP and OOT depended on. The Triforce of Courage. (And the triforce completed) Dark Link (Saved a mid dungeon in Oot) The Triforce’s wishing power (The reason for ALTTP’s ending) It also brought us towns, the first time we got to interact with the people of hyrule. Zelda 2 did so many things so the others would succeed. I bet you without these things, it would generally leave fans questioning things. And ALTTP’s ending would not have made sense.
Ok, people can dislike Zelda 2 and consider it the worst Zelda game but there is no reason in hell anyone should be calling it one of the worst games of all time.
I've tried to play through Zelda II, and one problem I noticed is that it restricts where you can go. In the first Zelda game, if you were having trouble with one dungeon, you could peace out and try another one. In Zelda II, either you get good or grind a lot to level up.
You really shouldn't have problems beating the first palace (you get a candle from here, and can grind for experience on the respawning skulls, getting around 4 Attack, Magic, and Life before Horsehead, while getting an automatic level up from beating each palace.
This was actually my first Zelda game that I played in the 80s (I got Zelda 1 after this). I managed to beat it as a kid, without save states. I find that early grinding in palace 1 on those constantly respawning skulls is the way to go. Once you get Attack, Magic, and Life to decent levels, each time you beat a palace, you get an automatic level up. You should have 8 Attack, Magic, and Life before the Great Palace.
Games worked very differently before. When this game came out the gaming community used to value different aspects of game play. I remember when i first played this game I though it was amazing to see a glimpse of Hyrule from a side scrolling perspective. In that time we were used to difficult games and compared to other NES games, at the time, this one wasn't that hard; I actually beat it without all the upgrades.
Yeah i know what your saying, i play a lot of old games on the nes and stuff and i actually do like zelda 2 just wide opinion doesnt. I know its supposed to be hard and i think its super cool you enjoyed it. My dad actually played it when it first came out and he said he didnt like it, but people have different opinions. In short: the game is very hard and doesnt hold up today, but for a niche community and when it came out, its a classic.
Imo Zelda II is now only made for the niche community of people who want to play all Zelda games . As someone who is a huge Zelda fan I tried to force myself to play this game and got bored and went back to totk lol.
@@cuccoses It did good enough to get a "Classics Series" release which they only did with their best sellers. We don't have to like the same things, but it's inaccurate to say it was even unpopular. It did very good even if you don't consider it was up against the first Final Fantasy.

Zelda II is a *very* overhated game, it’s honestly one of the better 2d Zelda games, I admit it’s a little rough around the edges but tell me who the FUCK is *legitimately* calling this one of the “worst games of all time?”
